MUMs’ clean, sterile, newly-​remodeled shop is centrally located in P.B. on Garnet Ave. across from the Von’s shopping plaza with plenty of parking always available. Hi my name is Erik, and I am a pisces who enjoys long moonlit walks on the beach and chicken pasta dishes. I started my apprenticeship here in pacific beach about 6 – 7 years ago, and have enjoyed working with a great clientele ever since. After several years of working at Black Rose, I am proud to welcome all clients/​friends, new and old, to Mums’ Custom Tattoo. My true tattoo passion is doing large scale traditional work, both Japanese and American style. I pride myself on being able to produce any style of tattoo work, QUICK and CLEAN! I put 100% effort into every piece I do, and although large pieces are enjoyable, I believe that it is extremely satisfying when a small tattoo is executed with flawless perfection

Went and saw Rodger at mums tattoo. This guy throws down the ink! Super talented artist that did more than outstanding job on my Neo traditional piece. Highly recommend stopping by checking out his book. The shop itself was nice small clean kept shop all the artist and their portfolios looked solid. Highly recommend this shop.

called for ahead to ask about a walk-​in apt that night. tattoo done by dion and such a nice guy!!! he didn’t make me feel awful for getting my tattoo just the way i wanted it (resized, moved around my wrist for perfect placement, color, etc)! super personable and is a killer painter too! he also told me i get a free touch up whenever. really happy overall!

Jim is the best! I’ve had 4 tattoos done by him and he always does a great job. He will
lead you in the right direction and is honest about what works and what doesn’t. He’s very fair in pricing, has a light hand, and is personable. All the other people in the shop I’ve seen have been friendly as well. I had work done previously, I had work done today, and if I choose anything else in the future I’ll be going back to Mum’s and to Jim. I highly recommend him!
Also, the shop is clean, which is very important…

Armondo is my artist. He was very sweet and professional. The shop atmosphere was nice with Elvis music playing. Very clean & friendly. Love my new tattoos and the touch up Armondo did on my tribute rose for my mom who lost her battle with cancer. Will definitely be coming back with family and friends.

Loved Blake so much I went back the next day and had him do the outline on my leg piece. Blake is so awesome, so sweet and a true artist. No attitudes here! It’s great.
My leg looks amazing! I can’t wait till I’m all healed up to go back for shading and color.

My ink was done by the fabulous Shannon Lee! Came in there with a drawing (idea) to represent my 2 sons. Gave her the freedom to interpret the drawing and she made it more alive. She took her time with me and I didn’t feel rushed through the process. The care she gave me was invaluable. No soreness or throbbing. I really lucked in knowing Shannon and this shop. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Shannon!

I wandered in here to see a friend get tattooed one day. And since then, I haven’t left. I adore Shannon and will now only go to her! I love her work ethic, she’s fun, communicative, SO talented, and just an awesome person. I’ve gotten awesome compliments on the work I’ve had done by her, jaw dropping responses. She works hard to get your art just right, at any hour of the night. I adore her… just don’t take my time slot! :)

Husband and I happened to stumble into this shop for a quick small tattoo after poor shitty service from other shops around the bend, and sure enough we lucked out. Mums is top notch, in regards to not only quality work, but the service is insane. We’ve hit this place up twice without a appointment, fairly late into the evening might I say and they welcomed us in.
Shawn Henry has been my husbands artist the two times we’ve dropped in, hes a super respectable, chill, hardworking and creative artist. He works late and is completely humble about it. This time my husband dropped in wanting a flash style stingray on a whim and Shawn drew it up, then my husband had a change of heart and wanted a different tattoo that he had his eye on previously, and Shawn had no attitude about the change of heart.
He is good at his craft, super efficient and understands the roots behind different styles, also really easy to talk to.

I got a tattoo done by Shawn and it was so beautiful that I am ready to get another one by him. He did such a great job and I hardly scabbed over and the swelling in my leg and foot was minimal. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is thinking about getting something. The charge for this tattoo was minimal also. Thank you Shawn.

Just got my tattoo done here last night by Josh, and I am sooooo incredibly pleased with his work!
My boyfriend and I have heard several good things about this shop, so we thought we’d stop by for a consultation. Jim agreed to do my boyfriend’s first session exactly a week later. We were both shocked because other tattoo places we went to had more than a month long wait! Two days before my boyfriend’s appointment, I decided that I also wanted a tattoo. So I sent them an email of an idea of what I wanted and also walked in to talk to them for a bit.
To be honest I was a little nervous coming in for my session since I had only given them a two-​day notice. But wow, am I impressed! I didn’t even speak to Josh that much prior to this about the details of what I wanted in my tattoo, but he was able to create a design for me that I absolute love! He was very patient and provided me with a lot of suggestions since I wasn’t sure what size and color I wanted. I have four other tattoos prior to this, and this is by far my favorite one yet!
This has been the best experience I’ve had at a tattoo shop. These guys are super friendly and extremely helpful and they are willing to work with you. They are also very professional and prompt. I would recommend this place if you’re looking into getting a tattoo done. My boyfriend and I will be coming back here in a few months for our next tattoo! :)

I love Erik’s work. He is an amazingly gifted tattoo artist. Went to him several years ago and got a tattoo I designed (he tweaked it and made it better… and I’m an artist too) and still get compliments every day about it. He also did my side tattoo a couple years later and spent many hours insuring that I was happy with design, placement, detail etc. He had great suggestions that always ended better than my original ideas, while still utilizing my creative and artistic individuality.

Just had my tattoo done here yesterday by Josh and I love it!!! He took the time to work around what I wanted even though I wasn’t sure how I wanted it. And everyone is so friendly and nice here, makes you feel so welcomed. If you guys need a tattoo come and see Josh he will take care of you and I promise you wont be disappointed.

On saturday (January 8th 2011) I walked into Mum’s looking to get some work done. My first and second tattoo on the same day. I explained what I wanted and 3 different artists helped me design the tattoos that I wanted. It was nothing crazy for them, just some lettering and filigree with my daughters names. They made me feel like they really cared about my tattoo. I wasn’t just some guy getting a tattoo.
Jim (the owner) ended up doing me a favor and giving me a great price and did the tattoos himself. He was super professional and made my first tattoo experience a great one.
Needless to say I got two beautiful tattoos that I get compliments on all the time. I can’t wait to go back and get my ½ sleeve done.
