Mr J’s Cleaners

I often need to dry clean my work clothes and have been to many dry cleaners in the Ocean Beach/​Point Loma area. On 6÷18÷16 I brought 14 items to Mr J’s Cleaners on Midway, and was told to return on 6÷20÷16 to pick up my dry cleaned items. When I arrived on 6/​20, Patty, who I’m assuming is the manager or something informed me that they only had 13 items and Patty informed me that she sent my 2 blue dresses back due to them not being cleaned appropriately. She asked me to return on ⁶⁄₂₁ to pick up my 2 blue dresses and the blouse they were unable to locate at that time. When I arrived there on 6/​21, Patty informed me that they now I my had 1 blue dress and were unable to locate my $ 200 Calvin Klein blue dress and the blouse they misplaced. I can’t even begin to express how livid I am for the simple fact that even though they initially told me they couldn’t locate one of my blouses, now my Calvin Klein dress was missing! Patty asked me to return tomorrow and they will hopefully have all of the items I paid them to dry clean. I will never trust Mr. Jay’s Cleaners on Midway again!!!

Worst! Husband’s shirts always come home folded over and wrinkled needing re-​ironing. Convenient for him but I’ve had it!!! NO more. He says something every time and nothing changes so we are changing dry cleaners.

If you ever need anything cleaned head over to Mr. J Cleaners! Best in Town! Also they have a alteration dept that is fabulous! Rupert with alterations is a pro — he has done many pairs of slacks, jeans and my wife wedding dress!

Mr. J’s had a surprisingly quick turnaround on dry cleaning! Most places I’m used to taking my clothes to won’t have them ready for a few days. Mr. J’s got them back to me NEXT DAY!

They do a great job with dry cleaning my dresses, jackets, and other clothes. They will have a quick turnaround. I am trying their alterations seamster and will report back. Affordable!

Been coming here for almost a year and won’t go anywhere else! Great prices and super cool customer service! They do great alterations too. If I’m not happy with the work, they make it right. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended!

Unless you want to throw away money I suggest you never go to this place. First, they ruin a $ 400 comforter. I believe in 2^nd chances so I gave them another shot. They messed up my uniform and they told me to come down so they could fix it right away I get there and they say the machine are off. Very terrible place. They have been going down hill. I don’t recommend anyone go here unless you want to throw your money.

I’ve been using Mr J’s for 2 – 3 years for my dry cleaning. They don’t do an amazing job but they’re close to where I live and usually they do just fine. I took in my wife’s dress in about two weeks ago. It was a formal gown that had a very high slit that she wanted hemmed a couple of inches to a safety pin to make it more modest. If you look up «hem» on Google it means to fold back and sow. I spoke with Patricia at their front desk and showed her the area and said the slit was too high and I wanted it hemmed to the safety pin. She interpreted what I said to mean to cut the dress in half vs hemming it to the safety pin like I showed her. So my wife’s formal gown that we wanted to be more modest and not have such a high slit was cut in half by Mr J’s to look like a short sexy clubbing dress. I tried very patiently to explain to Patricia that she misunderstood my request and I asked for them to refund the $ 15 that it cost for them to destroy my wife’s dress along with great $ 50 cost of the dress itself. I’m very clear on what I shared I wanted done. I’ve probably spent a few hundred dollars with them the last few years on my dry cleaning alone. I thought for them to refund me their cost and to pay for a garment they destroyed is very reasonable. After being a loyal customer for three years they’d rather not do the right thing by compensating for a mistake they made, lose any future business and have me share my experience here.

The worst!!! It is dark in there so you do not realize how bad your items are until you get outside or home. Ruined my work trousers, ruined my bed spread. I actually walked back in to take back my down comforter before they ruined that as well. Stay away from this place. BTW, the counter girls will chat up a storm before they decide to walk to the counter to assist a customer. Watched them do it repeatedly.

I use Mr. J’s once to twice a month for dry cleaning and alterations as needed. Long story short they last minute altered a pair of my sons pants, same day, for a wedding and I am so pleased. They saved the day. I have always been happy with them

I would not recommend Mr. J’s. The tailor who works there does atrocious work, and as many reviews have said, customer service seriously sucks.
I gave the tailor a suit to bring down a size and he completely butchered it. I understand it’s not easy to do that, but I showed it to him, explained what I want, and gave him some ideas from my (non-​expert) mind about how to bring it in. I was willing to pay for whatever amount of time it took him to do it, but I received it back in basically unusable condition. I threw it away.
Most recently, I was on an extremely tight schedule to get to a job interview. I came in asking for an express rush on my dress shirt and was told «no.» I was willing to pay a premium, but they just kept arguing that they «couldn’t» do it, no no no. Mind you, they were still running the machines. The place was fully staffed. They could have popped my single shirt in there, no problem. It just doesn’t make sense that a business would turn away a customer like that, especially when they can make a ridiculous mark up on one item.
Anyway, I’m not joking when I say that *every* time I go in there, I really have a bad time. They have cheap prices, and I’ll say I have not had a garment get lost or damaged. So they’ve got that going for them. But in this day and age, the level of truly shitty service can’t save them.
Don’t recommend.
Oh, and if you need a tailor, try Minh’s Tailor in Ocean Beach. FANTASTIC work.

Worst dry cleaner EVER! Horrible service, rude people and they ruined some very expensive pieces I trusted them with. When I went back to them with some basic questions about broken buttons, wrinkled shirts and uncleaned clothes, the manager rudely yelled at me and said that if I didn’t like the quality of their service I could take my business elsewhere and that I wasn’t invited back. I asked to speak with the owner about the rude treatment and poor service, but never received a call back. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This place SUCKS!

Do not take your clothes here especially if it has a stain. I’ve had to go back on three seperate occasions to have my clothes cleaned a second time bc the stain didn’t come out. I just went back to pick one up that had to get re-​done bc of a tiny stain and I pick it up and I inspect it and the stain is still there and all they have to say is that oh it wouldn’t come out I guess. I also picked up another shirt and it had a hole in it!!! No apology, just «oh I guess we can press it so it’s less noticeable». Soooooo mad. I hate this place.

This place does an excellent job with both dry cleaning and alterations (hemming). They are well-​priced and timely. Service may be a bit brusque but the actual work done is excellent. I would recommend them to others.

Came here to get a dress shirt dry cleaned for a job interview I had. I went in the day before and asked specifically if it would be done by the time I needed it the next day (around 10AM) they said it would be ready and I left it with them.
Come the next day I actually went in earlier than I needed it to pick it up, they said they didn’t get to it yet and so I left and came back for it later. IT STILL WASN’T READY. I waited there for 15 minutes and IT STILL WASN’T READY.
What came of this? I wore a jacket to an interview because these twats can’t stick to there word. DO NOT COME HERE.

This his our go-​to dry cleaners. Quick, convenient, good prices. We’ve been coming here since we moved to this side of the Point about 10 years ago, and we’re overall very happy with them. I did have a spell a few years back where they lost a few pairs of my favorite pants, and they insisted they must still be in my closet (trust me, my closet is not that big — I don’t «lose» pants in there. But that spell passed, and haven’t had any problems since then. Friendly service; I recommend J’s.

Fools for loosing a customer by not being willing to extend to me the avail $ 2 off coupon for people who live in the area. (via your home mailbox). I was picking up $ 20 of alterations.
No? I do not live over here, I drive through on my way to the better part of town — LOL
Okay, bye… the was the last time I’ll do anything with them. No more serious RIP OFF Alterations or shabby dry cleaning or (non)pressing of pants you pay to have pressed after letting the hem down.

Dropped a few items to Mr J’s since I got a coupon via the Penny Saver. Prices were pretty average for dry cleaners.
For years my family owned several dry cleaners so I’m pretty particular of how things should be done. My clothes came back in pretty fair condition, however, they advertise that their cleaning process doesn’t leave a chemical scent. When I picked up my items, they smelled like they had just been to the dry cleaners — no difference at all. But dry cleaning is a chemical process so I’m not sure how they’d evade that.
The site is clean and bright and my clothes were done in a timely manner. As for service, it was pretty lackluster. The guy who took my order was curt and barely said 2 words to me.
Pretty average experience, over all.
