Next special occasion we will go some place else. I wanted to go to the most romantic restaurant in town, this place was fine, but, just fine.

Had a great time celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend at Mister A’s. We had a reservation at 7:30 on a Friday night and at first they sat us on the patio but were totally accomodating when we requested an inside table instead because it was a bit cold. They brought us to a quiet table near the window to overlook the incredible view.
The service was the best part about our experience. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgable about the menu. She started us off with a couple cocktails which were both incredible. We then opened a bottle of wine that we had been saving for a nice occasion. We started our meal with the lobster bisque which was very good and creamy. I ordered the sea bass and my boyfriend got the lamb. The sea bass was a bit dry compared to others I’ve had but my boyfriends dish was amazing. We also got the brussels sprouts on the side that I wasn’t too impressed about.
They brought out a complimentary dessert at the end that they engraved with a happy birthday sign which was so beautiful and tasty. Overall, we had a nice experience and want to come back to try their weekend brunch.

The view here is breath taking! You get to watch plane after plane fly by you and land. It’s such a nice atmosphere too. The bloody Mary’s here are amazing too! And if you decide to go be sure you’re dressed nice they have a dress code. The food is okay. A little pricy for the quality but the view makes up for it.

LOVE THIS PLACE! You are not going to be able to go anywhere in San Diego and get this view while dining. I promise you… It is so romantic and gorgeous. You can it inside or outside as they offer both.
Benefits:
They offer valet! This is such a plus for me as dining downtown or in this part of town can be tough.
I loved how well we were taken care of on a Tuesday lunch. The service is impeccable and you can tell they really want you to have a good experience dining with them.
The food was delicious and I am a fan.
The menu offer’s a variety of items — not large but a good amount to make everyone at the table happy.
I was impressed with my entrée; I had the garden salad, my friends had the lobster salad and the fish and chips. They all loved their entrée’s and expressed how flavorful it was.
Then came dessert… they suprised our table with a dessert and it was the beignets! They were delightful little puff hot gooey pastrys with the cold coffee ice cream.
I would recommend bringing a date here or out-​of-​towners. You will impress them!
I wish the interior design was updated as it feels so out-​dated to me however I understand this place has been around for forever… so I get it.

Wanted to surprise the BF and made reservations to celebrate a daddy-​to-​be fathers Day dinner for him. Able to do it online and easy for 730 PM on Sunday night. GPS will take you to the building but it can still be a bit tricky to find. It is in a high rise building on 5^th but not really any red flags/​signs I could see while driving up to it (but apparently there is bright huge red letters that you can see from far aways… I noticed this leaving the restaurant as I was driving away). and parking is in the underground garage. street parking is an option.
When we arrived, it only took a few minutes before we were seated. We had a great waiter, who was attentive and very friendly. Gave us some good recommendations and the food did not take long at all. We ordered some apps, the escargot and the gnocchi. Both delicious and our main course: he had the lamb special and I the duck. Great choices, cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered pineapple cake dessert, and the chef gave us a complimentary plate to wish us congratulations since we were celebrating a special occasion. I thought that was very nice. Stunning views, was able to catch the sunset. by far my favorite view of DT, nice ambience, food was excellent, and service was exceptional. Perfect for a romantic night out and to celebrate any special occasion. I think my boyfriend will keep me :)

It is a daunting task to write a review of Mr. A’s and do it justice. How do you describe a phenomenal event without hyperbole? How do you capture a «memory-​for-​life» without sounding corny? I will try, and will hopefully do it without saying «to die for» even once. What makes a restaurant unique? It could be the best food you ever had, or maybe the best location or view, or maybe the exquisite service. This was the best food, view, AND service. It may have cost more than what we normally spend on a dinner, but it was more than worth it and we can’t wait to go again. FOOD: My wife ordered duck and I ordered the 48 hour braised short ribs. The duck was great, but she loves short ribs, and when she took a bite of mine, it was the best she ever had, and we traded dishes immediately. The idea of short ribs is to make it tasty and tender. It was so tender I never felt the knife hit the meat. The knife went through like butter. The taste was out of this world. We would both get it again next time. You can order side dishes of vegetables, but the vegetables that came with the meal were masterful. Vegetables don’t deserve to look this good or taste this good. I love a really good restaurant because every morsel can be eaten and appreciated. The vegetables here are not an afterthought. They are a work of art and delicious and I don’t even know what they were. Portion size is perfect. This is NOT one of those restaurants that says «You will eat less, pay more, and be quiet about it». We did not have an appetizer because we knew we wanted dessert. They brought an Amuse Bouche anyway, which was great fun. And I would tell you about the dessert but I promised not to say «to die for» even once. OMG. All made fresh in their kitchen. VIEW: The owners must have thought «Let’s build a restaurant and put it on the top (12^th) floor of a building with outdoor and indoor seating, with every table very near a window, and not in the middle of downtown but just far enough outside of downtown to be able to enjoy seeing it and the harbor and the airport and the ocean, and let’s put it next to the glide path of the incoming planes so that it is precisely at the point where the planes will go from above the horizon to below the horizon as they pass by the diners close enough so the customers can wave to the co-​pilot». I never imagined such a place, but there it was. SERVICE: It is hard to describe Yvette. She wasn’t a waitress. She was a combination of a new best friend and a personal guide. It is like you went to a great museum, and every person was assigned a guide to help them understand everything, but only when they wanted help. Water and coffee was refilled just before you started to think you needed it. Food came just before you started to think «Where’s the food?». Everyone involved with taking care of you seemed to be having a very nice day themselves, and didn’t have a worry in the world except to make this a special evening for you. SUMMARY: This was our 44^th anniversary, and I don’t know if there is a better place anywhere to have spent it. This must be the best overall restaurant experience in San Diego.

Jesse & I had dinner here last night to whet our appetite for the gourmand experience.
Initial first step is to make a reservation with your credit card to hold you accountable and if you miss the cancelation by 2pm, a $ 50.00 fee will be processed. I like that they communicate this early on.
Service excellent, as you exit off the elevator there are a staff of 2 – 3 behind the desks greeting you with a smile. We were escorted to our table with a lovely view of downtown and the airport flight path. Our waiter was attentive to our needs.
Since we don’t drink alcohol breverage, Jesse got a house made lemonade of blueberry & strawberry, — tasty.
Appetizer, we had the tomato soup which tasted like tomato soup with no special additions. Perhaps if you can have cream, order the lobster bisque.
Dinner entrees:
* curried cauliflower steak with roasted brussels sprouts and carrots;
* roasted Alaskan halibut with fava beans & zucchini.
We both have discerning palates and love to give rave reviews, we were surprised that the food did not stand out to being one of the best restaurants in San Diego. Jesse had to ask for salt & pepper to add additional flavor to his entrée which was the halibut. The halibut was cooked well, juice slightly flavoring the fish, thou nothing else spectacular about anything else on the dish, everything was bland. Cauliflower was simple, served with a sauce as garnish. This had the most creative flavor on my dish.
Have you had the experience of dining at a restaurant and leaving hungry? That was our experience here, we were both dressed up and got a burger at In & Out.
We believe the prices reflect the tradition Mister A’s hold and the beautiful & breathtaking view.

My wife and I showed up in nice shorts, closed toed shoes and I was in a collared shirt at 3:45 pm on a Monday. Got inside and was informed that long pants are required. At 3:45 on a Monday!
It was great to spend $ 20 to get here to be told that when we arrived. Huge waste of vacation time. Bad advice from a local. From the looks of it, it wasn’t worth the trip anyway.

A splurge restaurant for special occasions. I usually come here for dinner and needless to say the service and the food is impeccable. My last visit here was for my birthday brunch. The views of Mr. A’s is just as beautiful in the day as they are at night.
The Brunch menu captures the essence of the French cuisine. Everything we had was delicious. My favorite though was their French press coffee and the duo of donuts and pastries.

We didn’t get dinner or food here. Were in the area and hopped in for a drink with a view. We were not dressed up and even in sandals. We got to the hostess stand and found out that there is a dress code, luckily it was early enough in the evening and the manager let us slide (just this once).
The view is really cool, it’s a panoramic view of downtown San Diego, Coronado and the airport so you can watch planes landing nearby. It’s pretty unique. The drinks are expensive, as could be expected. Service was slow for us, but probably because they knew we were only getting one drink (or maybe because we were in sandals?).
The feel is definitely stuffy inside and not really my scene, so I wouldn’t run to get back here but if I was showing a friend in town around I might stop in to snap some pictures and grab a martini.

Went here for my first time with my boyfriend on prom night. The waiters were incredibly polite and the view was gorgeous! It was probably one of my favorite moments from the night. I loved it!

The words to this song do a very good job of summing up all that I endeavored to be for my Beloved. There is no place that I would rather be each and every day, then with her.
And after having spent a few days with strangers, and friends to be; I was honored that my Beloved would grace me with her company in this beautiful overcast morning in her hometown.
I had prepared for this occasion a month in advance, and I wanted it so badly to go perfectly seeing as that after all these years, I still yearn to impress her as if we were still in our original dating phase.
Although I have dined many times at Mister A’s, I had never shared their savory dishes, nor the exquisiteness of its views with her.
And, although I have dined with some very auspicious people whose net worth have more commas in them than a properly formed paragraph, there is no one in this world whose company I pine and long for, except for her.
I knew that this was to be a great morning as we pulled in and were greeted by a wonderful valet named Mario. The garage floor was gleaming, and the big smile on this face on this Sunday morning was a perfect introduction for what was to be a wonderful experience.
We took the elevator to the 12^th floor of this downtown High-​Rise, and were immediately and warmly greeted by both Hosts and Hostess. As we were introduced to our server, Pietro; and were promptly seated, every staff member exuded a degree of professionalism that comes from constant and consistent exposure and training to achieve this level of excellence and interaction. There definitely wasn’t a neophyte in the bunch!
As Pietro provided us a brief summary of this morning’s offerings, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful wonderment that my Beloved had as she stared out the San Diego Landscape.
Pietro was keen enough to notice her distant gaze, and without missing a beat, quickly mentioned that the large cruise ship in the harbor was the Disney Magic, getting ready to set sail for another cruise.
We were famished, and opted for the introductory sampling of the House Made Donuts. These were freshly made, with toppings of Pineapple and Coconuts. When they were served to us, one bite and we just had to exclaim how light and fresh they truly were. Totally and completely savory, and we enjoyed them as we just viewed the vast landscape.
I was happily emotional, having been surrounded by such pulchritude. The beauty of our surroundings being seen from a high perch, and the beauty of my Beloved whom I have called Wife and Dearest Friend.
For the main courses, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with the Braised Short Rib. And my Beloved ordered the Buttermilk Fried «Chicken and Waffles.»
My Eggs Benedict were a beauty to behold, and a savory delight to the palate. The yolk was perfectly runny, and the eggs whites were perfectly formed, strained, and seasoned. They were delectable as they stood, and the addition of the Braised Short Rib just made for a great mixture of contrasting flavors.
My Beloved’s Buttermilk Fried «Chicken and Waffles» were no ordinary dish. The Waffles were completely white, and they must have had a very special batter because she had to mention that they were unlike anything that she had every tasted. The Fried Chicken was perfectly light and Crispy, with no hint or trace of excess and cheap lard being used in its preparation or cooking.
I should also point out that throughout our dining experience, not once were we ever missed nor neglected. Pietro and the rest of the ever so smiling wait staff were spot on in their execution. It was an uncanny blend of precision and warmth not easily pulled off by any dining establishment.
And the views, in very sense of the word, were simply spectacular!
I began this weekend trip with a sense of uncertainty and trepidation, but after this morning’s brunch experience I knew that she was and is…

First time at Mr. A’s last night, awesome time! Didn’t know if it could live up to all the hype, especially considering its a San Diego landmark. It definitely does! Great service, very attentive without going overboard.
The bread! How is it so good? I could have eaten it all night, perfect whipped butter and sea salt on the side.
Great steak, perfectly cooked, since we sat on the patio it did get cold before I finished it. No big deal.
Oh and very nice wine list, the prices were reasonable.
Looking forward to going back.

I made reservations for two at 815pm and didn’t get seated until 9pm, so I was already in a mood. 20 minutes into the wait, I asked the hostess what was wrong and she said they were backed up and another couple was still ahead of me. She finally thought to lead me outside where I could take a look at the view that everybody was raving about.
The food was delicious but very salty. Between me and my gf, we ordered Mac and cheese, truffles fries, sea bass (it was ok), and the farm filet (highly recommend). For drinks I had the Mother Earth vanilla cream beer which was pretty good and my date had the adventurous drink with the jalapeño that was only ok.
I recommend making reservations and if u do wait, just ask to see the patio so you can take pictures before you eat. They will call you when your table is ready. Aside from the wait, the service, food and views were excellent and I would definitely go back!

The view is awesome! With that being said, I really don’t think Mister A’s is all its hyped up to be.
They are literally always shut down for private events, special occasions or reservation only nights. It took me coming here 4 times just to be able to walk through the doors.
The service is hit or miss and It’s also super stuffy and pretentious. For having such a rich history, is like it to be a little more friendly and welcoming but that’s just me.
I will say the happy hour menu is pretty legitimate. I’m sure I’ll go back just because of the view but it’s not a place I’m dieing to go back to.

With many ‘best views of San Diego’ to choose from, I always put Mister A’s in my top 3 favorite views, for sure. Sipping cocktails overlooking downtown, Coronado Island and the bay as you watch planes calmly land in front of you… it’s pretty unique, and pretty amazing.
I visit the patio at Mister A’s often for their happy hour. The happy deals are really good, and the service is always lovely.
I’ve yet to dine inside, but definitely need to add that to my list of experiences here.

San Diego, Sunday afternoon, 3pm, Mister A’s is a ghost town and these assholes have the nerve to refuse service based on their «dress code.»
Everybody was wearing collared shirts, and either jeans or khakis — except one person. They wore Ralph Lauren khaki shorts, Polo Shirt, and Sperry boat shoes.
WTF kind of dress code is that? Maybe the restaurant wouldn’t be empty if you didn’t require tuxedos…

I absolutely love Mister A’s. Tons of parking, easy to get to from the highway, the convenience of this place is only the beginning to how wonderful it is. A quick 12 story elevator ride to the top, this is the perfect place for happy hour or a romantic dinner in the evening. Their balcony showcases the skyline of San Diego — you get to watch the airplanes land with the harbor in the background! It’s truly magical. I love coming here with friends after work from downtown and we have had the BEST service whenever we visit. I usually get the Thai vodka cocktail (not on happy hour). Also the truffle fries are my go-​to appetizer but really anything is good. They have high quality ingredients in everything from the drinks to the desserts.
Definitely a place to come no matter if you’re a tourist or a local. This is one of the coolest places in San Diego!

I made reservations for my husbands birthday 3 weeks before arriving. Upon arriving for our on time reservation, they had us waiting for 10 minutes.
Once they sat us they never even gave us a menu. We waited for 5 minutes for our server… Nothing. The freaking water guy came to our table before our server and gave us water. Keep in mind we never even got asked what we’d like to drink. 5 minutes later our server still didn’t acknowledge us! The waitresses kept checking in on the tables behind me and infront of me. I could understand if they were busy and packed, but let’s be real, they weren’t. After 15 minutes of waiting around I called Donovan’s to make a reservation to come in, and got it. Even after I hung up the phone nobody came to us. HOW RUDE, shame on the staff.
We got up and as we were leaving to the lobby near the front desk host, we told them we were leaving and made reservations elsewhere. He had a proud smile on his face and said «ok bye!». How horrible that you don’t even care as to why. This place doesn’t deserve my money nor tip.
February 16ths staff was a disappointment.

So we decided to do a last minute get away to San Diego for V-​day. Since we’re not really familiar with downtown SD as far as restaurant goes, I decided to use Unilocal for help. After a long search for descent place to eat, we decided to go to Mister A’s.
Mister A’s is located on the top floor of some business building that is under construction. As it was our first time, it felt like an adventure getting there. The entrance is in the back of the building. Nobody’s on the first floor to tell you where to go except for 2 signs one outside that said Mister A’s. As you walk in you’ll see flood lights to light the hallway… lol and as you go further down the hall you’ll see another sign that says the same thing which takes you down to the lobby and figure it out from there… lol Since we figured it’s on the top floor we took the elevator and voila, to Mister A’s we go.
Food was pretty good. Service was excellent. We didn’t go with their set menu they had for V-​Day because it seemed limited to what you can order. So for starters we had the lobster bisque (this was pretty tasty in the beginning but after a while the lobster taste became a little overwhelming) and half dozen of Oysters (it was fresh and not so gritty because of the sand). For our main course we had steak (was cooked to perfection. It was really tender and just melts in your mouth if you like medium) and lobster (well it’s lobster) and Branzino fish on top of lentils (this was seasoned perfectly. The lentil tasted had a hint of curry flavor which balanced it out). We decided not to get dessert because the amount of food we just ate was enough to fill us both. We even had left overs that evening.
The view for this place was pretty romantic UNTIL a large jumbo jet plane passing by every 10 minutes or so at your sight… lol But bottom line the view is amazing!

This review is for happy hour only. Mr. A’s has a handful of cocktails for $ 11-​$ 12 and some lite bites for $ 8-​$ 11, but the expansive view of the downtown skyline, San Diego Bay, and planes landing is what you’re really paying for! The drinks were good albeit a tad too sweet for my taste and the best thing we ordered were the Kobe beef sliders. The shishito peppers were ok but the macaroni and cheese had too much truffle oil in it. It also took a good 10 minutes for a server to bring us a menu after we were seated. Mr. A’s seems like a great date spot, but be prepared to lay down some $$$, especially if you’re dining off the regular menu.

With an amazing 360 degree skyline view, amazing food/​drinks and impeccable service what’s not to love about Bertrand at Mr. A’s? My boyfriend and I came here for valentine’s day and they, like usual, did not disappoint. We have reservations at 545 and we were running late. I called ahead to make sure they held our reservations. When we got there, we were seated within 10 minutes. We had a lovely view of the South East side of downtown and it was beautiful. I loved watching the planes come through to land at the airport without hearing any of the noise. We started with cocktails we both had the same speciality cocktail except I substituted the Jin in mine with vodka. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the cocktail, but it had blackberries, strawberries, and jalapeños. It was really refreshing with just a very subtle hint of spicy. The dinner also came with a deconstructed Deviled egg with caviar on top. This was really creamy and was a very gentle way to start dinner. Next, I had the oysters with the roe on top. The oysters were fresh and properly prepped. He had the shrimp and scallop risotto. It was delicious and I ate most of it… oops! For my main entrée, I had the squab and foie gras. The foie gras was… to. Die. For. So good. The squab was also delicious and juicy. He had the tenderloin and that was so tender is was almost like butter in my mouth. For dessert, I had the crème brule and it was perfect; creamy with an amazingly crunchy top that was perfectly bruleed. He had the teresamisu. I am normally not a fan so I tried just enough to note that it was moist and very coffee flavored. He loved it.
Service was impeccable. Any time either of us got up to go anywhere we would come back to a perfectly folded napkin. It’s like they have little napkin folding monkey ninjas hiding ready to fold. Dishes were brought out and removed promptly. Every person was extremely friendly, helpful, and polite.
I will always highly recommend Mr. A’s and will always come back.

Mister A’s is a wonderful restaurant for a date night. Went with my man and we had a great experience. I got the filet and he got the NY Strip special. From the wine to the dessert we had a great evening. My only negative was that we made a reservation in advance, only to be sat in the middle of the restaurant. Mister A’s best ambiance quality is to get a table by the window which we did not. Would definitely come back and hopefully on a night where we can either be next tot eh window or on the patio.

Amazing view with a tasty meal.
Came here for lunch one day during restaurant week and what a nice deal and a nice meal. There was a 2 course lunch deal for $ 25 during restaurant week and we had to take advantage of it. The main dining area was very elegant and traditional. There is also a wrap around patio area outside with seating as well. It was a bit cold so we opt to sit inside.
We ordered a few items to share and everything was nicely presented and tasted good. The dishes are very traditional and carefully prepared. The cheesecake dessert was my favorite.
Parking was easy in the parking structure, the bathrooms are clean. Service was attentive and nice.

Place was very busy. Every table was booked as it was Valentine’s weekend. Sat at the bar for cocktails before dinner. Staff was very helpful and friendly. View of the city was very nice and romantic. Everything my date and I ate was delicious. He got the trio and I the sea bass. Even the tasters before the meal were wonderful. We enjoyed our time. Only suggestion would be to update the décor.

I came here for my friend’s birthday dinner last month. I was looking forward to the view and some memorable dining experiences I’ve been hearing about Mister A’s over the years.
When you walk in you are met by an outdated and stale renaissance like décor. The views though are absolutely amazing any where you are seated. Take a walk out to the balcony and snap some photos. There are heaters outside for chilly evenings. Our waiter was gracious enough to take some pre-​dinner photos for us. 1 STAR.
I was recommended the Thai Gimlet for a starting cocktail and was hooked from the first sip. Absolutely delicious! 1 STAR. My husband ordered the Old Fashioned and enjoyed it well enough to order a second. I ordered the foie gras which for $ 30 was a flimsy fatty tasteless blob that was overpowered by the chutney that soaked a piece of gingerbread I believe. Not worth half the cost. My husband had the escargot and enjoyed them. 1 STAR. Then came dinner… I ordered the duck confit which was so dry and chewy I struggled to chew and shallow it. My husband ordered the «whole fish» for $ 50. I’m not kidding you it was a a plain fish fillet not larger than his hand served with 3 baby potatoes the size of my thumb. Thankfully our friend ordered a side dish of Mac and cheese which was tasty but come ‘on its Mac and cheese and I want some fine dining! Our bill was $ 300 for a couple, 2 cocktails, 2 apps, 2 entrees, no dessert.
I felt feeling not only disappointed but bewildered as to the great reviews that led us here. I’m telling you, come here for the Thai Gimlet during Happy Hour and enjoy the view but have dinner elsewhere.

Wonderful Valentines dinner experience. Great service, food came out fast. $ 100 for the fixed menu & was a little disappointed that it did not include a complimentary champagne or anything. Oh well. Food was fabulous and we had patio seating which resulted in an incredible sunset viewing. I would definitely return.

My boyfriend took me here for our first anniversary and it was a wonderful dinner. Seeing a sunset view in town of San Diego’s also beautiful when you are relaxing and having a nice conversation with someone special along with a glass of wine. It’s romantic.
The food was delicious, the ambiance was calm, classy, and cozy. Our waiter was amezing and very professional. At the end of the meal, even though we ordered Cream Brule for the dessert, they also brought us a complementary dessert with Happy Anniversary word on the plate.

So we have been to Mister A’s a handful of times, this is my first review even though I should have posted the others I will go with this one now. We arrived right ion time, however my parents were late so we ended up sitting on the balcony while we waited. The heaters near where we were sitting for for the looks only, at least that’s what the waiter said. They were out of Sculpin so we had to get Stone (ewe). We order the chicken liver starters, the loaf was lacking in flavor and the pancetta was beyond salty. The two men had the garden salads, nothing to spectacular about them either. My mother had the warm kale salad with soft boiled egg and she said it was alright, but wasn’t wowed by any means. We did get a sample of the lentil soup compliments of the chef, it was tasty but hard to tell from the teaspoon amount we were offered (lentil soup is cheap). On to the entrees, I ordered the seafood paella, it was good, but the wine flavor overpowered the seafood, the trio of beef was cooked well, but all three meats tasted the same weird you would think each sauce would be unique, but it really wasn’t. My mother ordered the short rib with a leek mashed potato, that was lacking flavor and again the beef tasted like the trio, same sauce. My dad had the under whelming $ 36.00 for three scallops, he left pretty hungry. We got the mac’n’cheese $ 12.00 for a small square to share, that was good, but a large proportion would have been nice. I would like to not that Kyle our waiter was nice and made my mom feel special on her birthday. Rock on Kyle, lol!!! They did bring out a complimentary (tiny) bite of dessert from my mom, so that was nice. After splitting the bill my was $ 147.00 (with tip 180.00) and my parents was $ 137.00 (with tip 170.00). So for $ 350.00 I think dinner should have been more amazing, I think at Morton’s you get a better meal and leave full, the only perk I see at Mister A’s is the view.
PS: The bathroom are so run down, for a fancy restaurant you would think they would upgrade those.

This is a nice restaurant to grab lunch or dinner with fantastic views of downtown San Diego. I love how you can get a great view from different sides of the roof and watch airplanes approaching the runway. I don’t remember exactly what I ordered but I do recall that the Truffle Fries were on point. If you’re looking for a great date spot with a view, this place is for you.

Although the service is good, the food is not good. I was disappointed again… I’ll probably return only for HH. Dinner entrees needs help. The food was bland.

I’ve heard about this upscale restaurant and I was excited to see that they were doing the San Diego Restaurant Week. This place is well known for the view so I made sure to call in a reservation for the patio. (If you make a reservation you better go to it, because its about a $ 60 fee if you don’t show up!)
We ordered food off the SDRW menu which consisted of an entrée and a choice between an appetizer or a dessert. Me and my bf both picked the Kobe burger for our entrée. It was good, but I felt like the burger was a little bland for my taste and could’ve used some seasoning. We shared the truffle Mac and cheese and my bf wasn’t too crazy about it because it was overly rich but that was exactly what I loved about it. So good I’d come back just for the macaroni. We both shared desserts: one was some sort of creative interpretation of a black forest cake and the other was a caramelly cheesecake and popcorn. Kind of small, but really tasty.
Unfortunately, it was overcast that day and I greatly underestimated how windy it could get up there. The view of downtown SD is breathtaking, but it was too cold for my comfort. I was shivering and it was hard not to let that affect my experience, but by no means does that detract from the quality of this restaurant.
The outstanding service from the waiting staff was actually the highlight of my meal. Our waiter Mike was incredibly friendly and really made sure that me and my bf had a memorable date. The other servers were incredibly attentive too.
It was a nice treat, but out of my usual budget. I would only come back for a special occasion. I’d recommend this place to anyone who has a hot date that they wanna impress.

Came here during a restaurant week and I must say I deff need to come back. I was with my boyfriend as a quick off to his birthday celebrations and I was pleased all around.
The food was amazing !

This place is a joke.

My wonderful boyfriend took me out on a date night to this place. It was a surprise, so I was even more amazed with the view. We got amazing seats overlooking San Diego!
The food was pricey, obviously, but delicious. I’m more of a comfort-​food person – I can be happy with cheap tofu soup and rice – but their food sure made my taste buds happy. Not many fancy restaurants can do that!
I always feel a bit out of place at restaurants like these, but what made me feel a bit more uncomfortable was the fact that phone usage was not allowed. I felt like I couldn’t even comfortably get a picture taken of my boyfriend and I with the view in the back. :(

I’m not going to make any subtleties about this place. It’s pricey. But it’s great to know that this is truly one of the few places the rich people dine and frequent.
Brought my girlfriend here for an anniversary. I’m glad we only come here on special occasions. I’m also glad that she doesn’t constantly crave food from this place. Even if I could afford to fund that craving, it would never feel right. I mean, here are only a couple of the items whose prices I felt notable.
$ 8 for a salad (which happens to only be a leaf with some garnishing)
$ 20 for a scotch
Just imagine how much everything else costs. Whatever you’re imagining, tack on an extra undisclosed amount of money, and that’s almost how much it actually costs.
Don’t show up wearing jeans. Guess what, it’s fancy. Yes, you actually dress up for this kind of place.
Any opportunity to take advantage of a deal for this place, go for it. Restaurant week, Costco gift cards, what have you.
Parking: You can park on the street for free after 6pm, when meters are not enforced. Or you can park in the same building for a fee.
At this point, you’ll ask, «Well, if you have so many unfavorable things to say about this place, why did you give this place 4 stars?» And the answer is that this place is nice, and there aren’t many places like it. Service is impeccable, the view is invaluable, and I feel like a million dollars when I come here (because that’s probably what I actually paid for my meal). A place like this can never deserve anything less than 4 stars.
Just know what you’re getting yourself into.

I came to Mister A’s today to celebrate my brother in law’s birthday. I was actually looking forward to trying the SDrw lunch menu but we were told when we came in at 1pm on Sunday that it was brunch day. So anyways, I tried the brunch menu and it didn’t disappoint. My lunch partners decided to order from the regular menu. This is actually my second time coming to Mister A’s, I came here for dinner a few years ago and was blown away by the outstanding service, great food and an amazing view of downtown SD. I had a great time today, the wait staff were very attentive and our main server was funny and accommodating. They even let us take some pictures in the patio. I can say, it is still one of my favorite restaurants in SD.

(We came during restaurant week) Best part about this place is the view and the service. The wine list is not notable, and the food was sub par. I felt that more than 3 of our dishes were lacking salt, and a few of the dishes were confusing. The fettuccini dish had u-​12 shrimp on it but the scallops were smaller than dimes, completely pointless to have them on there. Also, why was there a sliced deep fried onion on this dish? The branzino tasted like it was boiled in olive oil and was paired with al dente lentils. And the branzino portion was too large. And the desserts were completely off. We took one bite of them and passed on that course altogether.
The service was exceptional. Our glasses were never empty, and the pace of the meal was perfect. I just recommend a revamp in the kitchen, very disappointed.
Side note: I was later told that our server was very dismissive when asked to provide a candle for our birthday guest, and both my guests felt that he was rude, however, I did not feel this way lol.

We came here last year around our 1yr anniversary in November and we had a very delicious meal.
Honestly, we came here for the view, it’s breathtaking you see all of downtown SD and the marina, and if you get a good sunset day it’s just really amazing. It sits up on the roof of a really old looking building that I’m not sure if it hosts any other type of business. We did get there right on time to catch the sunset so we quickly went outside to take a few pictures but the people that were seated out there didn’t seem to thrilled that we were ‘invading their space’ so we came back in. We were seated next to the window inside the restaurant so the whole evening we had a nice view of the SD skyline.
They brought us some water and very warm delicious bread and butter and took our order. We skipped the appz and went straight to ordering dinner and sides!
We both ordered fish dishes, I honestly can remember the names but one came with rice and the other with a pesto zucchini salad and a side of mac n cheese. The main dishes were good, ok sized portions considering the amount that each plate was we could’ve used a little more, but you know how these fancy shmacny places are ‘less is more!’ they had good flavoring and neither one of our dishes disappointed us. The Mr. A’s Mac and Cheese was not that tasty, Kinda bland and in need of flavor, we actually added salt n pepper to ours and it elevated the taste slightly.
I had a strawberry lemonade, which I have no clue if they offer re-​fills on. It was about $ 5 so I would think they refills should be free but I was too embarrassed to ask if they did and sound cheap! Although we were already spending a very good amount of money on our dinner.
My husband had a beer, and we are not big drinkers so that was all the drinks we ordered. I always think at fancy restaurants like these management and waiters must think you are really cheap when you don’t order alcohol, but hey, there is some people out in this world that just don’t really drink, ya know!
They had several, suited men standing around. I’m not sure if they were managers or what but I don’t know why they needed that many.
They brought us a complimentary dessert platter with little bites because of our anniversary and it was good. Not great, but good.
I’d probably come back in a few years because the location is great. Hopefully they’ve changed and added stuff to their menu by then.

Mister A’s is the classic overpriced, lounge ambiance, steakhouse experience. It has the price of a fine dining experience without the food to back it up.
This place has a great view and a very attentive wait staff so they do have some things going for them. Unless you are showing some elderly, out of town visitors the city, there are many better high class dining experiences that offer better food.
Of my entire party (10+) people, the majority of them agreed we have had much better food at various other places we have gone for company outings. The view was a moot point for half of the party as they were looking at a wall.
I would not come back unless I am bringing my grandpa to show him the skyline. But knowing him he would prefer good food to a view.

My husband made reservations weeks ago for our wedding anniversary on Monday night. We showed up on time, only to wait more then we thought we had to (10 minutes). He requested a table by the window. Thankfully that was granted. As we sat down we noticed our view… overlooking beautiful San Diego. Okay, worth the 10 minute wait.
Our waiter, Kyle looked like Michael J. Fox. He was friendly, polite, and courteous. Although we waited a little more then what we like to order drinks. He was on top of his game they whole dinner through.
I like wine. Specifically, cabernet sauvignon. But, I am not a winer. So as long it taste delicious to me, it will do. I ordered the Grayson ($ 9p/​gls). Smooth! My husband ordered the Burnt Orange Old Fashioned ($ 13.95). He is the Old Fashioned connoisseur. He said it was perfect!
We reviewed the dinner menu online prior to our visit. We ordered the Classic Lobster Bisque ($ 13.50) to start. For me the soup was too fishy. My husband loved it. I ordered the Grand Islands Farm Beef Filet, Morel Mushrooms ($ 49) and my hubby ordered the Fresh Herb Crusted Roasted Rack Of Lamb ($ 40.50). I like my steak medium rare… and that’s how it was. Perfection! The steak was juicy, tender, melt in your mouth, deliciousness. My hubby loved the rack of lamb. For him it was perfect.
We also ordered the Famous Truffled Fries ($ 8). They were good. But, I would not order them again. Just too much food. And, I don’t like wasting food or taking food home. Our entrees would have sufficed. Plus we received a basket of fresh baguette with butter and we shared those. So you can imagine all the food we had. Like I said, the fries were good but too much food.
Overall, Mister A’s superseded my expectations. I probably did not appreciate the view as much as I should have. I was just enjoying my husbands company, and it was nice to have a date night. The view is amazing! So don’t miss out. You are after all paying a premium price for it.
This n’ that: There is valet parking for $ 10. Or, you can try to find street parking. We utilized the valet, and it was worth it. I highly recommend reservations. If you have a acrophobia. I recommend you stay inside, or choose another restaurant.
