After a long-​term consideration I have decided to go back to my natural curly hair. Reason to do a very deep research in order to find the best beauty salon and hairdresser. After reading many reviews from different places, I have decided to give a chance to Me My Curls and I salon. My hair is very damaged after blow-​dry and iron for over 6 years. I technically lost all my curls at the ends, and I never really understood the natural «behavior» of my hair. Today I got LUCKY to find TRAVINA STOCKING. She helped me understand everything about my curls. She was very patient listening what I wanted and better she made my curls look PRETTY again. I recommend TRAVINA STOCKING, you won’t regret it! =D

Susanne and her staff gave me my first professional Curly Girl hair cut and I could not be happier with the outcome. Not only was the cut AMAZING! but she also gave me advice on drying my hair, properly untangling my curls, and taught me what haircut shapes and styles will flatter my face. I’ve been getting my hair cut by Susanne for almost 5 years and what a difference a specialist for curly hair can make! I was traumatized as a kid because people didn’t know how to cut/​style/​deal with my curls so I grew up with the worst haircuts! As an adult I didn’t trust anyone to cut it, cause it was never «right». Not that I knew what right was, but I def knew it wasn’t the best it could be. One day as I was driving to work I pulled up next to a cute little green Prius that said ‘Me, Me Curls & I’ all over it so I immediately looked it up (when I got to work) and was shocked to find that there was someone who did curls exclusively.
My first impression of Susanne was how Zen she was and how calm she made me feel about getting my hair cut (usually I’m a hot mess about it!!) She truly is a gift from God sent to earth for Curly Girls (and boys too). She cuts it dry and then her and her team actually teach you how to take care of our curls, something no hair stylist had EVER done before!!! I look forward to every appointment and leave feeling fresh and beautiful. I’ve sent more people than I can count to her, and they all feel the same way. My hair has never been healthier! I love her assistant Travina too… I think she’ll be seeing clients on her own soon (she’s been trained by Susanne for over a year!) I can not say enough about what a game changer going to someone who knows what the hell they are doing with your curls can make!
Susanne’s work speaks for itself and the fact that she is booked solid speaks volumes about how happy all of us Curly Girls are with her, so I hope you give her a try, you will not be disappointed!!!

I was a frizzy girl. Now I’m a curly girl. I have never had such a great cut and then Susanne taught me how to care for my hair. Everywhere I go I get compliments on my curls. Long and spiraling instead of a frizzy mess. The staff and salon are great and Susanne is so talented. Such a great experience.

I went to Susanne a few months ago after looking long and hard for a curly hair specialist. Boy oh boy how she ruined my hair for several years to come :(She cut my curls dry… claiming it is «her art and specialty». She completely botched my entire head of hair — Uneven, chunky, unblended, unsymmetrical hair is what I was left with. Truly the worst hair cut I have ever received :(
I followed up with Susanne… tried contacting her by both phone and email. She chose to ignore all my calls and emails. A few days later I personally walked back into her salon and demanded my money back. She refused to apologize to me, and failed to take accountability. Beyond unprofessional. She did finally give me my money back.
Truly, Susanne’s horrible haircut was not worst part. The worst part is the several years now of hair regrowth she has caused me.

Suzanne and her assistant are extremely knowledgable about curly hair. I learned a lot about how to care for my curls and why I should do certain things and avoid others. Suzanne listens to your hair concerns very carefully. My hair was very long, but damaged, instead of suggesting I just cut it off, Suzanne suggested we went slow on cutting the length off, to give me an opportunity to get use to shorter hair. This is a total different approach from other stylist that have just cut off my hair or I had to fight to keep the length. Suzanne is very sensitive to your likes and dislikes while also giving you honest advice. I had though about getting highlights and Suzanne suggested a conditioning color instead to not cause more damage to my hair. There is a considerable difference in the price of the two services, however she suggested the less expensive option, because she felt is was the best for my hair.
Your haircut comes with a complete lesson how to care for your curls and how to style them to get the best 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd day hair. If you are used to «regular cuts» and the price is intimidating, I suggest you give it a try. This is a time consuming cut; Suzanne will look at each of your curls (it’s a dry cut) and cut one at the time, giving your curls the best bounce and formation. After your hair is wash and dry by the expert hands of her assistant, Suzanne will once again look at your hair and style a little more until she feels your curls have the best cut. She is a perfectionist, and this is a good thing for your hair stylist. I never felt rush or press for time, they took all the time they needed.
Before I left I was told to call them if I had any questions or concerns about my hair. I had never had a hair stylist invest so much time for a hair cut and offer to consult on the phone if I needed it.

Totally worth it! I walked in thinking my curls were ruined and she told me I would be pleasantly surprised. Lo and behold I was! Both Suzanne and her assistant are very knowledgeable in curly hair care and I learned a great deal about how to manage my curly locks! At first she asked me what my goal was in coming to her and I explained that I wanted to be able to wash and go. She meticulously cut each curl to sculpt my new look and both she and her assistant explained each step along the way. I am now able to wash and go! Highly recommended!

Susanne is a true artist… she is patient and meticulous and an all around lovely hairstylist. I enjoy her company and ALWAYS love my hair!

Had my first appointment 2 months a go for a cut and got soooooo much more!!! I got the best cut of my life PLUS a private class on how to care for my curls. Don’t you hate it when you get your hair done then after the first wash it does what it wants! With curly hair it’s worse cause most stylist beat it into submission with heat and blow outs. Not this place!!! They teach you how to live in harmony with your beautiful curls. My hair turned out gorgeous with big fat ringlets. Bought their Diva products even though I had my doubts cause on
Diva line did not get mega stars. I was wrong… It made my curls soft and moisturized. Please do yourself a favor and just invest at least one time and get your hair cut with Susanne… And her assistant was lovely and very passionate about curl care.

I had straightened my hair every day since I was 12. I previously thought my hair was frizzy and unmanageable no matter what I did. The first time I went to Susanne she washed my hair and explained to me how to style curly hair — something no one had ever done before. When she was done, I couldn’t believe that was my hair! It had never, ever been perfectly curly before. Susanne is so kind, and makes me feel beautiful.

Susanne is the BEST curl specialist I have ever been to. Growing up with curly hair, I lived for so many years with the unpredictability of what my hair would look like each day, whether it would be frizzy, whether I would get a good hair cut, etc. I went to lunch with a friend of a friend who had the most beautiful curly hair I had ever seen, and I knew I had to try her stylist.
I have now been going to Susanne for 7 years, and I will never change stylists again. She is AMAZING. She gives you a dry hair cut where she analyzes each curl. She also colors my hair with products that do not harm curly hair. She teaches you about curly hair, knows curly hair inside and out, and spends quality time with you to make your experience everything you want it to be. She has become a very dear friend, and she is a beautiful person inside and out.
Her studio is very calming, and she has a separate space inside the Thomas Joseph Salon with her own chair, mirror, sink, and dryer. She uses Deva Curl products, which have completely transformed my hair. Although it is «just hair,» feeling good about yourself and knowing that you can have a good hair day every day of the week makes a difference. She taught me a method of using the Deva Curl products, along with some «memycurlsandi» towels that do not allow your hair to frizz. It takes me 5 minutes to get ready, but my hair lasts the entire day. I bought a few of the «memycurlsandi» towels from Susanne, and I take them with me when I travel because they make such a difference.
I cannot say enough good things about Susanne. I have never written a review on Unilocal,but feel compelled to do so because she is that good. Her prices may seem high at first, but when you see the work she does, she is worth it. She also will not need to cut your hair as often as you used to have it cut, so it may save money in the long run.
After going to Susanne for many years, people now ask me who my stylist is :). She has an easy online booking system that allows for flexible schedules. She has you come to appointments with freshly washed and styled hair so that she can cut it in its natural, best state. I always look forward to my time with Susanne, she makes sure you have a drink, be it tea, water, or wine, and are taken care of. She even writes down which music station you like and makes sure to have it playing when you come in. She is the least intimidating person I know, and will never rush through your appointment. If she ever retires I am screwed!!!

Susanne is definitely worth the wait and the haircut is worth the expense. Susanne will educate you in how to handle your curls and maximize your curl’s potential. Along with a great haircut, Susanne will give you the tools you need to manage your curls.
Her on-​line scheduling is a great feature. I found if I checked her scheduling site on a daily basis, if not twice a day, I was able to schedule an appointment within a week!

So I’m almost afraid to post a review because it will only make Susanne busier… but it’s unfair not to.

She is The Curl Whisperer. I promise. She only cuts curly hair, and only works on women. She cuts your hair dry — curl by curl — with excruciating precision. Then, she teaches you how to style it so it’s always perfect! Low maintenance and awesome!
The fact that she’s an insanely beautiful lady inside and out is just a plus.

I have been a client of Susanne’s since she worked at that salon in Mission Valley that starts with «Re-​…» Anyways if you have curly hair you owe it to yourself to make an appointment with her. I have been to Deva NYC, Ouidad in NYC and LA, and Susanne’s talent outshines any stylist I have ever had! She is a true genius when it comes to cutting and coloring curly hair period! I wouldn’t trust my curls in anyone else’s hands. She is also one of the most amazing women I have ever met and she will take great care of you.

This review is way overdue. I’ve been Susanne’s customer for almost two years now. Before knowing her I always used to cry after getting a haircut. No hair dresser seemed to know how to cut curly hair. After trying all the hairdressers recommended by my friends in San Diego, at some point I gave up on trying to wear my hair curly and started flat ironing my hair and later straightening it using keratin. My hair was burned and damaged and I had to use tons of products to straighten it and even then it would look terrible.
I was really frustrated and annoyed but then, I came across Susanne’s reviews on Naturally Curly website (
). After reading the extraordinary reviews about her, I looked at her website. Being a student the prices were way over my budget but after reading the reviews I really wanted to visit her and that was the best decision ever. Susanne’s work is worth every penny. She is totally amazing, both as a hairstylist and as a person. I am a very picky person when it comes to my hair but she does magic with her scissors. I highly highly recommend her to all curly girls. She is a Deva specialist and she uses Deva product but what makes her distinguished from other Deva specialist is that she is an artist as well and she looks at her work as an art piece. She takes her time to shape EVERY SINGLE CURL and she teaches you how to wash and style it yourself. She has totally changed my look. I constantly get compliments both for my curls and my highlights. She does an amazing job with highlights as well.
If you are a curly hair you should not think twice and should make an appointment with her.

Susanne is a Deva trained stylist and she is awesome! I am Black and I have super curly/​coily hair– and a LOT of it. I was getting annoyed with my hair and had given up on wearing it out and started wearing buns. My hair had grown to a point where it looked completely shapeless and unflattering.
Susanne told me my curls were beautiful and asked questions about myself before cutting my hair in order to find the cut that best suit me in terms of my wishes and personality. She is a very sweet and humble person — unlike many stylists I’ve had in the past. She takes her time and cuts each individual curl. She explains what she is doing and using (Deva products). I ended up with a haircut that I love. I didn’t lose a lot if length but she took away the bulk so my hair looks much better! Since I’ve been curly I’ve never left a salon with my hair actually «done». I always have to go home and do my hair myself.
Also she completely caters to you. I was offered a drink at least three times, given magazines and she kept ensuring that I was comfortable. I’ve never enjoyed a glass of wine while getting my hair done! LOL.
The appointment took close to 3 hours but like I said she cuts each curl individually. She knows her stuff about curly hair and doesn’t make you feel like a weirdo when you explain your regimen.
I will be back! I hope she never leaves San Diego! Worth the drive and price!!!

Susanne is a curly hair genius. I recently started following the curly girl method. She’s an expert in cutting curly hair and educating you on how to maintain your curls. She uses Deva Curl products and is a Deva curl stylist. Susanne is patient and professional. She will ask you questions and makes sure that you are comfortable through the process. If you have curly hair and live in the San Diego area, she is the best. I wear my hair curly and natural and I have NEVER done that before. I always thought that I had «bad» hair, but now I have beautifully defined curls and it is all because of Susanne.

Susanne was recommended to me by a friend who also goes to her for her curly hair needs. I looked her up and found only excellent reviews everywhere I looked and she did not disappoint. Susanne has been a stylist for over 20 years and has been cutting curly hair exclusively for about 12 years i believe. She uses Deva curl products exclusively, which are pricey but they do the job, and she cuts using the curly hair dry cutting style perfected by Lorraine Massey, which Susanne learned from Massey herself in New York.
I was very impressed with the ambiance of her room, which is inside the Thomas Joseph Studio. She took her time and explained everything to to me as we went. During my shampoo she had me hold a mirror so I could see exactly what she was doing and how she was doing it. Overall I am very impressed with her ability and am looking forward to my next cut.
Side note: Due to a scheduling mishap, I had to split my appointment in two and when I returned later that day, son in tow, she tossed in a little trim for him as well. A few snips and he went from looking shaggy to looking sleek.
FYI: She has an assistant, Shay, who is training to learn the curly hair dry cutting style from Susanne.

I was immediately impressed with how she picked up each individual curl and cut it, explaining exactly what she was doing and why. Each curl got individual attention and it’s own personal cut! Wow! And because she cuts dry, what you see is what you get. This drives home the importance of arriving there with your curls unaltered by clips, ponytail-​holders, hats, etc.
And if her talents with the shears weren’t enough, wait ’til you see what she does with color! I call Susanne «My Alchemist» because she is amazing with color. The way an alchemist turns lead into gold, Susanne turns my «silver highlights» (aka «grays») into gold. Not all of them, but enough to make it look gorgeous yet believable– just the way I want it. The bonus in this type of camouflage coloring is that it doesn’t need to be done as often as other color, and because curly hair looks good longer after a cut, I don’t need that as often either. So, yes, she is more expensive than others, but a) so worth it and as a specialist in my field myself I can really appreciate specialty care
b) there shouldn’t need to be a «b» because she is so worth it, but here’s the bonus: you don’t need to go as often.
Over the past couple years that I have been seeing Susanne I have never felt the need to skulk in because my hair was overdue– the education and tips she gives you help you to keep your hair looking great. I sometimes think, «am I already due for my cut/​color, because it is still looking good and I am still getting compliments…»

Susanne has been cutting my hair for the last fifteen years. Even when I was living in Boston, I would make appointments for whenever I was in San Diego for a visit. She’s the only person I’ve ever know who does a thorough study of your hair before doing anything to it. And I love the fact that she goes above and beyond to make sure that the products she uses are right for you. If you have curly hair, this is the woman to seek out. Her Curly Girl cuts are the best. Susanne truly understands curly hair and I did some serious research prior to making an appointment with her. She comes highly reviewed and recommended by other ‘curly girls’. Her prices range from $ 130 to $ 170. Pricey, I know, but she’s worth it. Her appointments book months in advance as she has a loyal following.
Her cuts take longer than most, that’s because she takes the time to cut and shape EVERY INDIVIDUAL CURL. Her cuts are also a lesson in how curly hair should be cared for. She really cares for her clients and for curly hair. My appointment took long, I have A LOT of hair.
She was very patient with me and recommended that I cut it shorter than I wanted. When I protested, she was understanding (It had taken me sooooooooo long to grow it). She asked if I would trust her enough to one day allow her to cut it short and believe me I do trust her – and trusting someone with my hair is a big thing, believe me. :-)
