Max’s 99 Cents Hillcrest

GONE. VAMOOSE. AMSCRAY. These guys shut down about a month ago. It was okay about average. Had the same name as 99c stores in Clairemont and PB, dont know if it was the same company or not.

this place is now called v outlet. and EVERYTHING HERE is not a dollar. it should be called two dollar store. also, they didn’t have change so I had to look in my car for 14 cents.

I go back and forth about this place. One thing I am never unsure of is the heat. It is freaking on fire in here every time I come in. Usually I leave feeling crap it is hot in there but why don’t I go more? It’s kind of a secret awesome. The people are nice but don’t expect too much from them. It is the 99 cents store after all. Cleaning supplies and party goods are two of this locations strong points I feel.

99 cents and up, focus on the «and up.» Well-​lit and tidy, but very little in here is 99c, and of the few brand-​name items I saw, you could get them for the same or less at Target. They have decent plates and cheap kitchen stuff — but you have to keep an eye for the Prop 65 warnings.

If you’re ever sent to the «Limbo Lounge» I suggest you stock up at this store. You ask «what the hell is Limbo Lounge»? awwww, lemme tell you about Limbo Lounge. First of all, its similar to «Yelp Jail» only difference is you can post in talk threads, even start talk threads and when you read the threads you see what you posted, crazy shit is, nobody else can see what you posted! Oh, and most importantly you are given no indication of when or if you will ever be out of this state of «Limbo» Now on to the 99 cent store, here’s what you should buy.
1. butts, as in cigarettes, are the cheapest in the hood.
2. need some plates for home? decent china at amazing prices
3. shit your pants? decent selection of men’s and women’s undies
4. Basic stationary, hey its an envelope, what do expect for 99C?
what not to buy here
1. condoms (see below)
2. Candy, this shit has expiration dates from the last decade, when dark chocolate turns white, you got a problem (nothing racial there, don’t even try it HQ)
3. Toothpaste, mouthwash, etc etc, again, its 99 cent cuz it ain’t worth the paper its packaged in
so in summation, if you have a tendency to spout off at the mouth, don’t do it in Unilocal talk, apparently that is not what «talk» was created for. If you are looking for a drinking buddy, a sex buddy or you have a fascination with poop, then go for it. I like the 99 cent store and I know many who think its some kinda blight on the neighborhood, I say, this ain’t fu*king La Jolla, get ovah your selves.

I feel rich when I come in here. Like a total baller. Dollah bills spilling out of my pockets and a devil may care look on my face.
I like to grab my basket and just randomly throw stuff in there, maybe I need it, maybe I dont, but who cares its cheap.

you get the picture. its very easy to shop here and you’ll never be surprised once you get to the counter.
I saw a guy stamping misc items with the 99 cents price tags and I wanted to ask him what the point was. everything is 99 cents isnt it?

The place is actually called Max’s 99 Cents And Over. They have surpisingly good sunglasses… for $ 5. If there were Random Find Olympics, Max’s would be a top competitor– probably a silver medalist, even. Other than feeling like I need an extreme hand-​wash when I leave, there’s only one thing that really, truly bugs me about it…
Find me something in this store that is actually $ 0.99 and I will totally give you a dollar.

Where else can you find bungee cords, cooking utensils, wrapping paper, poster board, cat toys, picture frames, cleaning supplies, and luggage tags on University Ave. The great part is if you ask an employee if they have a particular product, they know just where to look. That doesn’t even happen at Rite Aid. I think Walker S. hit it right on the nose — this place is organized. Thank god, otherwise it would be utter chaos with all the various items that they carry. If you need some random item, there’s a good chance that Max’s has it.
