Matthew Licata Painting

I’ve used Matthew Licata Painting two times now, and each time, Matt did an amazing job repairing the drywall and then painting it afterwards with matching paint such that I can’t tell that there used to be a hole there.
I was first recommended to Matt’s company by Morrison Electric, who had to cut a large piece of drywall out to install an updated electrical panel in my condo. I hired Matt to: 1) repair/​paint the drywall around the electric panel, and 2) repair/​paint drywall in the shower area that had visibly suffered water damage over the years. At short notice, Matt was able to fit me in on a Saturday to repair both areas at a flat rate, and I was completely satisfied with the results.
The second time I used Matt’s services was after upgrading my shower. The plumber had to cut a hole in the wall of the guest room behind the shower to get to the shower pipes, and this left a large 13″ x 18″ hole in the wall. With guests coming the next week, I needed to get the hole patched and painted. With my busy work schedule, I left Matt the keys to my place so that he could let himself him and do the work. By the time I got home, the hole was patched and painted, and the area was clean. I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results!
The great quality of Matt’s work is why I will keep coming back to him for any drywall repair and painting services!

I hired Matt to paint my house in preparation to sell the property in a few months. I tend to be high maintenance with contractors that I have not worked with before. When Matt initially came to the house to give me a quote, he spent a lot of time with me answering my questions about process, scope, etc. He took a genuine interest in the project, answered all my questions and made great recommendations. His price was lower than 2 other contractors I received bids from, one of which who gave me a quote based on aerial photos. Crazy.
The project is now complete and my house and deck look brand new. Matt was onsite every day working with his crew that he’s been working with for years. They are very professional, tidy, and just fun people to talk to. Thanks again Matt for a great job. I will hire you again when I buy my next house in OB.

I am a repeat customer of Matt. I have had Matt and his crew come out on several occasions now whenever we have a painting job.
We had an old wall heater removed (by someone else) and it left a large hole in the inside and outside of the house. So I needed the drywall and the outside stucco repaired and painted .
I didn’t hesitate, I called Matt. We set up a time in a couple of weeks, but told me that if he had some time, he would send out someone sooner. He he did, he sent someone out the following week.
Matt sent out Eric, and I tell you, Eric did a FANTASTIC job in patching and painting the holes in the drywall and the stucco. You cannot tell where the holes were. AWESOME job !!!
I would highly recommend Matt Licata Painting! Vey hardworking group of guys. Very high quality of work at reasonable prices.

Matt and his team did an excellent job. My wife and I are very particular and after reading his reviews on Angie’s List, one thing stood out and that was the use of the word «perfectionist». We received multiple bids from other highly rated painters and Matt stood out from the crowd from day one. In our initial meeting, Matt took his time walking the house, pointed out certain things that we never noticed before and most importantly, was able to provide a bid on the spot (whereas other painters would take 24 – 48 hours to turn around).
Matt and his crew were always on time, were very professional and just a pleasure to deal with. They were extremely careful moving furniture and were very considerate of our space. The actual paint job was a work of art. We have many bull nose (rounded) corners in our home so making sure the line was perfectly straight was a big concern of ours. Matt and his crew greatly impressed us with their execution and we still can’t find a bad line or bleed anywhere throughout the job. By the third day of the five day job, I was already asking Matt to estimate the remaining rooms in our house as we will definitely use Matt again.

Matt did a fantastic job repainting my place. His crew was very professional and their work was suburb! They really took the time and care to do the job right. They payed attention to every detail and kept in communication every step of the way. Great work!

We hired Matthew Licata to paint our house in the Santa Luz community (San Diego) July of this year. We hired him after consulting with a number of companies, and after having worked with other companies on a number of paint jobs. From the moment we met him and until the job was completed, Matthew and his team were very professional and have done a phenomenal job. The initial job involved painting the whole interior of our house including doors and vaulted, high ceilings. Matthew and his team were so meticulous and detail about prepping — making sure they cover every household item so as not to get any paint on them. They were also punctual — showed up exact time they promised during the entire job. I was very impressed at Matthew and his workers dedication on their work. The job was completed without any problem or delay. We also asked Matthew to paint our island cabinets in the kitchen. This was detail oriented faux work. And Matthew showed his artistic touch to revive the look. It was an excellent job!
After the interior paint job was done so well, we hired him for another job. The job was to paint and stain the wood frames of our windows and doors from outside. This job included so much detail and a lot of prepping work. We were, again, very pleased as to how the job turned out. NOBODY could have done it better.

I review only for their painting quality there painting quality was really great. Later I did work with many painters but they are the best of all. They always use good product on their work. Honest and responsible price. So fast work as well.

I have hired Matt Licata twice this year because the quality of his work is so good. I have a 1920s wood house which I’m restoring room-​by-​room. Matt’s team has now finished upgrading 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Flaking ceilings were scraped, peeling wood moldings and window frames were sanded, and borders between wallpaper and moldings were caulked. Matt used oil-​based paint on all wood trim because it has a rich effect and lasts for years. His team is polite, efficient, skilled, and thorough. My rooms look lovely. I highly recommend Matt Licata Painting.

I had to do a recessed lighting upgrade at my condo unit which requires a follow-​up texturing and paint job.
Matthew was willing to squeeze us into his busy schedule while he had another big job going on for his crew. Since I was from out of town, he was nice enough to complete a two days job into one day so that I don’t have to stay overnight.

Matthew Licata Painting recently completed painting the exterior of our older home in Point Loma, San Diego, accomplishing excellent results. What a great team! They are professional and a pleasure to work with. Their work is meticulous, from high power washing. preparing the wood and surrounding areas and painting with excellent results. The price, as always, was reasonable. Our house is located on a hillside, three levels with balconies, adding to the challenges of a marine environment. They renewed the mahogany door thresholds by hand sanding and varnishing, and they look like new. Their work is flawless, the very best interior and exterior painting we have seen. We have invited Matthew to continue painting the interior of our home, including wood cabinets. Matthew Licata Painting is the only painting contractor we now use.

Matthew Licata painted the exterior of our townhouse in the Trilogy I community, Carmel Valley area, San Diego.
I am thoroughly pleased with the quality paint job performed by him and his crew. He paid attention to detail from start to finish. Starting, the painters did a thorough job prepping which included pressure washing, caulking, stucco repairs and meticulously covering the surrounding areas to contain spills and overspray. The paint was not only sprayed, but back-​rolled, resulting in an even and thorough application. Areas with accent colors were brushed on with clean, straight lines. The end result was a professional, great looking job. I am a property manager, and this is one of the best paint jobs that I have seen. It is apparent that he is very proud of his quality workmanship. He communicated with me often throughout the process, and is a pleasure to work with!

Just had Matt and his team out to paint the interior (walls, trim & ceilings) of our small 30’s bungalow. I had a bunch of people out to bid the project as I am very particular and wanted someone who would pay careful attention to the details in my house (i.e. flush moldings, woodwork, trim, etc.). Matt’s bid was competitive, in the middle range of bids I collected, but what made me select him was I could tell by the way he inspected the project that he was a true professional, knew what he was talking about and wasn’t wasting my time. Its been a week or so since they wrapped up and I have to admit I couldn’t be happier with the work. The lines and finishes are outstanding. If you’re looking for quality and a team who are punctual, courteous and professional, look no further.

Matthew was very responsive when I called for an estimate. He showed up on time to give an estimate. Appointment was booked. He was able to completely paint the whole 2-​bedroom 2-​bathroom condo in 2 days, including laundry closet doors, 4 interior doors, the back of front door, stair risers, and the stair handrail! I choose white flat for the entire place and white semi-​gloss for kitchens/​bathrooms. The crew showed up on time, and was super professional. They cogged all the baseboards for me, and left the place clean as they found it after the job is done. Matthew even pained the stair railing free of charge because its chipped state just doesn’t look good with the rest of the house! I highly recommend him for your painting job!

I’m pretty compulsive about things, so I had six people come out to my residence for estimates on painting the exterior. Some had fancy handouts. Some measured the house. Some did not. Some gave me boilerplate answers on how they would paint the house. Others just kept asking me what I wanted instead of giving me a professional opinion. They all felt more like salespeople than painters.
Matt was the first person to show up to my house dressed like a painter. He also spent close to an hour walking around the house pointing out things to consider. He had good suggestions on ways to clean up the window trim and other areas I hadn’t considered to make sure everything looked clean when I was done – pointing out anything not detailed would look crappy after a new paint job. He also had smart ideas nobody else did like painting the wood siding eggshell instead of flat both for aesthetics and to protect from grubby children’s hands. His estimate was not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. He promised me he provided a level of prep work and detail other painters do not. After hiring him and his crew for the job, I am definitely inclined to agree.
Matt and his team showed up early and waited on the sidewalk to ring the bell at exactly 8AM. Two, three, or four people worked long days for five days to complete the job – as promised – by the end of the day Friday. While other painters were going to provide two people for three or four days, Matt provided far more man hours for the money – and it shows in the results. The level of prep they did to the house makes the final product really sparkle. Our door is now painted a bright yellow, and I can assure you the door was sanded and smoothed over for hours before getting its paint. The entire wood siding of our house was sanded, caulked, and smoothed before being painted. And, then Matt gave his team more notes, and they went back and caulked and sanded again.
They also made some cool adjustments as they went. We were going to paint the flashing (the border between the roof and the trim) the same color as the trim, but when they started, they thought making it black to blend in the roof was better. It was a fantastic idea, and it really looks great.
It’s also worth notice Matt and his entire crew are friendly, personable, and clean up after themselves nicely at the end of each day. They were super nice to my barky dog, and they let my six year old shoot the wall with the spray gun. My wife and I were home most of the time they were working, and they were all great guys. They even helped us move all the junk away from the house that we were supposed to before they got there without complaining. And even helped move it back at the end.
After all was said and done, we noticed a couple small oversprayed areas and asked Matt to come back and fix them. I came home to Matt painting and touching up the entire front of my house. And, he then repainted all of the flashing on the back of the house so the touched up area wouldn’t be at all noticeable. That’s the level of detail he put into our entire project. As he left, he offered to come back anytime if we noticed any other issues down the road or as the siding expands/​contracts and affects the paint.
The experience left me with no regrets at all about hiring Matt to paint our house. I would hire him again and definitely recommend him to my friends.
