My husband and I live in Northern California but own a condo in San Diego. In January we attended a home show at the convention center looking for ideas to redo our condo kitchen. We stopped at the Marrokal booth and talked to the rep, who seemed interested in our job. We made an appointment with him, to see our kitchen, a day or two later. He arrived in a timely fashion and spent about an hour talking to us. He indicated he would meet with us at Marrokal’s design center the next time we came down and provide us with options for our remodel. We set a date and time for the next meeting, which was reiterated several times. We arrived at the Marrokal Design Center at the date and time agreed on only to find the rep we talked to was not in the office at that time and apparently had done nothing about preparing any options. Needless to say that doesn’t present Marrokal in a very good light.

I LOVE THIS COMPANY! We had a major remodel, we live in North Park and my house was built in 1929. My house has all the modern conveniences, like dual-​pane windows and insulation but still looks true to the period it was built. We lived in the house during the remodel… that was rough but we knew what we signed up for when we started. Everything was done stucco, new bathroom, refinish floors, brand new windows and window trim, brand new bathroom, roof, getting rid of hot water heater, new front entrance walkway, paint, stain, new mouldings and trim… Did we run into overages? sure it is an 85+ year old house. Luckily they found some wood rot issues and other items that could have been devastating and expensive in a couple of years. Were there snafu’s…sure it is construction with a lot of workers trying to get into the same space at the same time. However any problem or issue that arose was taken care of to our satisfaction and done quickly! John Simko spot on for our job. I couldn’t say enough great things about this guy! He kicks butt and works hard to make things right! The other person I need to mention is John the MASTER CRAFTSMAN wood worker. The mouldings and trim that he did for windows, door etc. was AMAZING. Once the project was completed they made a donation on our behalf to a charity of my choice. The charity called to personally thank me for the generous donation. The construction part of the project lasted approximately 11 months. It has been about a year and I am seriously considering hiring them once again to remodel the bathroom that was not remodeled and do some detail work in the kitchen… call me crazy, but that is how much I liked this company!

We hired and have been working with Marrokal for two months out of a 5 month project. It’s been nothing but headaches and mistakes from them. Horrible experience! We have to project manage the job ourselves now.

I bought a house that had a bathroom remodel done by Marrokal. Unfortunately, the shower leaked but they did stand behind their work. Even though they didn’t have to cover it under warranty, they came in and repaired the problem. I thought that showed good integrity and responsibility.

We couldn’t be more pleased with our experience using Marrokal. From the first phone call to every part of the design, decorating and construction process we have received considerate and professional care. Our remodeled kitchen is gorgeous! We are so thankful for the class act that Marrokal is!

We were very happy with our downstairs remodel in 2011. What prompted me to write now is the extraordinary service we just received. A few days ago I spoke with Craig Speicher at Marrokal. Even though I was well outside the warranty period, Craig volunteered to look at my pull out garbage/​recycling cabinet where the sliders were no longer working properly. He then offered to do the install for free if I paid the cost of new sliders. I was pleased. He contacted Art at Imperial Custom Cabinets who said «no charge» for the new sliders. Craig then installed them today. So, I have my gorgeous kitchen back in working order and all for free. Craig could not have been nicer or more professional. Marrokal did a whole house remodel for us last year and recently performed some followup warranty work. We turned an OB cottage into a 3-​story view home. Any project of this scope is going to be stressful and fraught with differences. We had some serious cost issues arise on the design side midway through the project. I have to hand it to Marrokal, because when we raised the issue & communicated how serious it was, management came out to our house to listen to us. They addressed the issue promptly, appropriately and satisfactorily. We put it behind us & moved on to a successful completion. On the project management side, we had a very positive experience. The project proceeded quite reasonably on time, the subs were all professional and did great work. Our Project Manager George Lazorcik was on the ball and immediately addressed anything we raised. He had to walk a fine line between us & management on what to consider an Additional Work Order, but the results were always fair, in my opinion. The work was of high quality & has gotten high marks from the neighbors. One even called our place, «A gift to the neighborhood.» The warranty work we requested was handled promptly & without question. I really was surprised how quickly they responded. I think overall Marrokal does great work and I have not hesitated to recommend them to any neighbors who ask.

On the contrary to some of the reviews below, my experience was exactly opposite of what they had. Before choosing Marrokal for my whole house remodel in 2009, I contacted three other companies. All were design/​build companies like Marrokal. One company never bothered to show for the initial meeting. I looked at another’s work they did in in La Jolla which seemed rather shoddy. The other was certainly nondescript. I’ll admit Marrokal can be a bit more than some other design/​build companies so before I actually chose them, I asked many subcontractors at the numerous home shows how they felt about Marrokal. To a tee they all said Marrokal held them to a tougher standard of workmanship and cleanliness at the job sites than all the other general contracting companies they serviced. Most added, «You get what you pay for.» Now, five years later, the quality workmanship is still apparent. The entire team was always open, honest and very easy to work with.

Marrokal has been remodeling my next door neighbors house for over a year.
Recently my neighbors house was re-​stuccoed and the works were sloppy and splashed stucco on to my house and property which has since dried. The stucco has also logged its way into the air intake vents on my new air conditioner.
They also were chunks of concrete /​chicken wire scattered on my property.
I called Marrokal and they gave me the name of the Construction Manager on a Friday. I called «John» and he promised me he would come by on Monday to take a look and take care of it.
It’s been a week I’ve heard nothing…
I realize that the stucco company was a sub contractor, but still if you promise to take care of this, I expect you to deliver on your promised.
If you want to hire a company that breaks promises and hires sloppy subcontractors, Marrokal is the company for you!

Had an estimate WaY over priced!

I was told they would call me back.
I had a design consultant come out and give me an estimate for a room addition. When I said I would rather do my yard he never called me back.
The main office called to follow-​up and I told them I was disappointed, never got another call. Very bad… I was disappointed. I did get my backyard, front yard and driveway paved and landscaped… by someone else.

Had them do a large project. The design was nice. Every other aspect of the job was poorly done. There were countless delays, cost over runs and just poor service overall. Even when we tried to escalate the issues to management we got no real responses. Wish we could say something nice. Do not like writing reviews like this.

Yes, their insurance company came to her home twice since her security bars pulled right out due to stupid installation by incompetent installer, just to save Marakol $ 1,000. They charged her $ 400,000 for remodel. We never heard another word from their insurance company but Mr. Marakol’s attorney wrote us a letter denying all responsibility. Whose fault was it that this was not done right and then not checked over at completion? My mother believed that she was safely nestled in her home and she was not. Furthermore, in this letter, their attorney threatened to sue us if we said anything on Unilocal about it! I wrote Mr Marakol a letter and probably dropped a 4 letter word or two on him and what does he do? He mails the letter to my mother. Come on! A really mature, ethical and honest man NOT!!!

My home was from 1857 so it was not easy did three jobs love my home last project was 2004 everything still looks like great thank you all at marrokal

I used Marrokal two years ago for a major home remodeling project: kitchen, extension of the dining room, and addition of a few bedrooms upstairs. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results, and I receive compliments on my home all the time. Marrokal was extremely professional and offered turnkey service and quality contractors who knew what they were doing. Our architect and design consultants really worked with us to come up with a fantastic proposal that would work for our home and the way that we use our house. I would absolutely use them again.

I am surprised by these negative reviews I see here. I just had Marrokal complete a fire pit remodel of my back patio and they did a beautiful job! I don’t think they bid their services out, as far as I saw they did all of the work from in-​house services, which is way better than contracting out!
I worked with Steven Mark as my designer and he was with me through the entire process and everything with us went through without a hitch! I recommend them to everybody! My fire pit is awesome and I get compliments from every single person who has ever witness its grandeur!

Don’t use these guys unless you want to get ripped off– they are completely unyielding as contractors–

We did a major home remodel with Marrokal in ²⁰⁰⁵⁄₂₀₀₆ and are still recommending them to others. They were innovative during the design process and patiently worked with us to assure the home would be just right for us – and it is. We chose to live in the home during the remodel and realized well into the project that this would have never worked out with most contractors. The Marrokal staff and all sub-​contractors were efficient, polite and kept the work area clean every day. Marrokal has been back to our home twice on «warranty» items and has taken care of these issues with the utmost professionalism.
