Located in Scripps Ranch, Laces Running Company is a Running Specialty store providing running shoes, performance sportswear and running accessories for both Runners and Walkers. Laces Running Company is a Running Specialty store in Scripps Ranch providing Running Shoes, Performance Sportswear and Running Accessories to Runners, Walkers and those interested in a healthy lifestyle. It is owned by Clarence Zachow and Mike Stevens.

Clarence has been competitive in running for more than 35 years, including road racing, marathons, ultramarathons and triathlon. He has ran more than 30 marathons, qualifying for 14 Boston Marathons. He’s done Ironman triathlons, two Rim-​to-​Rim crossings of the Grand Canyon, adventure racing and more.

Mike has been Coach for more than 20 years at the High School, Collegiate and US National Team levels. He was named by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) as Coach of the Year in both 2009 and 2010 for his San Diego Region Championship teams at Torrey Pines High School.

I highly recommend anyone who wears walking or running shoes to go to Laces. They have helped me with finding the right shoe and even helped me make adjustments to avoid further injury to my foot. No pressure sales and very, very knowledgable.

I went to Laces with a foot issue, and shoes that RoadRunner had fit me with a long time ago. The man who helped me (the owner!) took one look at the wear pattern on my previous running shoes and knew exactly what kind of shoes to try for me. He pulled out some shoes I had never heard of and they were AMAZING! He was very knowledgable about the shoes he carried and which shoes would work best with my foot issue. I will definitely be going back for future shoe purchases. It’s great to support a local business!

Absolutely easiest buying experience. This company lives up to the recommendations. The customer service is superb! I went in with my list of wants (ankle support, cushion soles, etc). Mike was fantastic and listened before making any recommendations. He was kind enough to offer some tips on my jogging form.
I felt comfortable no pressure to buy one shoe over the other. Mike’s goal was to ensure I walked out of the store educated and confident in my purchase. He didn’t overwhelm me with tons of pairs shoes to try but rather a couple at a time to narrow down what I really wanted.
This place believes in what they sell– they live it too!
I’ll be going back for my next pair and then the pair after that!

The team here is so helpful. I have come here now for 3 years. Last week, I was fitted into a Mizuno neutral running show that ended up not working out. I returned and was fitted into Brooks which my feet and back love! The extra attention and service is very helpful considering I am a mid 50 year old runner and hope to run for a very long time. The staff here provides old fashioned, exceptional service and are a positive contribution to the Scripps Ranch area! 5 stars!

What sets this place apart is the wonderful staff and depth of knowledge. I went there today looking for my first «serious» neutral running shoe. The staff was very helpful, letting me try out a few shoes, giving me suggestions, and was focused on helping me find the perfect pair rather than trying to sell me the most expensive product. I appreciate how the shop offers 30 day returns just in case you’re not 100% satisfied. After coming back from my hour jog, I can definitely say I will be back — not to return my Mizuno Wave Rider 18s, but for another pair in the future. The prices are not low, but reasonable and well justified due to the service.

I was having a lot of foot pain after running about 6 miles and stopped by for advice. I was told my shoes were too small and I bought a new pair of shoes a size bigger. The shoes were comfortable but the pain didn’t go away, so I returned. The guy adjusted the foot beds to provide more cushioning (at no charge) and the next day I ran 8 miles pain free. The personal attention and knowledgable staff are priceless!

The man at Laces was very friendly in helping me choose the right running shoes. He had me try running in several shoes while he watched my form and the fit of the shoes. It’s definitely a great lesson for beginners who are just getting into running. Finding the right shoe is important to avoid injury, so I recommend coming here!

Superior knowledge, kind and reasonably priced. These people know shoes and running better than store I’ve been to. Really great selection of stuff –although they didn’t have any giant stuff for my feet size 14⁄15. Again super knowledgable. Highly recommended.

The had a fairly small selection of running shoes compared to the bigger stores but for a small location they did ok. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable so that made up for their lack of stock. Prices were the same as roadrunner sports so at least you can get the same products for the same prices with a little extra staff attention.

Today I was advised NOT to buy new shoes (as mine were still in good shape) but work a bit on my running form instead. How rare to get such honest service and great running tips to boot! I am grateful to discover this shop and its friendly manager. When my shoes do get run down, I will definitely come back!

I always buy my running shoes here. Staff are super friendly. They also have you try on several different pairs and have you run outside to see what kind of stride you have so they can find a pair that’s suited for you. They offer a military discount as well. Wouldn’t shop anywhere else!

Full disclosure: my brother-​in-​law works here.
That being said, I honestly feel like this is the kind of friendly local business that I wish were more plentiful where I live. Their stock is not anywhere near as extensive as, say, roadrunner or any other big box store, but the people here actually really care about getting you into shoes that you will love. They will talk to you about your runs, races, etc., and they ACTUALLY care! The store is also a nice cozy place that I could see myself hanging out in if I were so inclined (not that most people are going to just go chill at a shoe store, but still…). They even have a mini-​fooseball coffee table!
If you know EXACTLY what you want and just want to go grab it, go ahead and get it from a big chain store or order it online. But if you’re looking for some guidance on what kinds of shoes might be good for you, or even some advice on your running form and why your heel might be sore etc., then Laces really is a great place.

The customer service is outstanding and the time they take with you to make sure you have the right shoe is fantastic. I got a great shoe and was so happy. I will be returning!!!

What a great little running store. This is a perfect example of what businesses used to be like. Local, friendly and personal. You can’t get that kind of experience from a big box store. I came in on a Sunday looking for a new pair of running shoes. The guy working there was not only knowledgable, but he was patient and accommodating. I told him what I’ve ran with before and he offered some great suggestions. He recommended a shoe I would never choose for myself. I’ve been running with my new shoes and they are fantastic! I even decided to get a pair for my mom! I do wish they had a better selection of clothes for females. However, I’m sure they don’t have a big demand. I’m happy to support this business and will return again when I need some new gear!

I’m sure this store is really great, and I’m a fan of supporting my local running store, but they are not really set up to handle pre-​race packet pick-​ups. Consequently, if you happen to participate in a race that utilizes the store for packet pick-​ups, do yourself a favor and just pick up on race day.

I love the crew at Laces… Mike, Mike and Clarence are amazing. They don’t just stick you on a treadmill and let the machine do the work. And it feels like if they sell you shoes, they will take care of you for life.
Also, they have a deal right now if you buy shoes 25% off apparel including sports bras. What else? And yes, they showed me how to use my rumble roller too with my tight calves!!! Love them!!!

Don’t even think about buying anything at this running store. Manager is a jerk. I had the highest bid at a silent auction at a cinco de mayo trail run lin 2013, which included a voucher for a pair of running shoes from this store. The voucher was not included in the bag I received. It
over a month to arrange to get the bag in the first place. I finally went into get the shoes-​mind you they only had 2 pair of shoes in my size in the whole store (so much for their invenyory). I had asked back in July to be emailed the voucher, which I believed was never done. Must have gone to my spam folder. In any event the manager did email me and I apologized several times for thinking he did not.
I could sense that despite my spologies the manager had an attitude. It was so apparent. As I was leaving the manager felt compelled to insult me telling me that I was self entitled. Incredible! I support a local school by making the highest bid only to be lectured by this jerk. Does this guy understand the first thing about customer service.
Im quite certain I am not the only customer that gets treated this way.
My advice is to shop at any other running store;avoid this store like the plague.

Hands down recommend this place for your running needs! Clarence is amazing and takes the time to make sure you leave with the right materials tailored for your specific fit and running style. He is very knowledgeable– definitely knows his stuff! I love how you don’t feel pressured at all to make a purchase just because you stepped foot in the store. He was able to provide great recommendations to alleviate an injury that started ~5 weeks ago. I was fitted for a fantastic shoe and picked up some compression socks to help with the pain.
Not to mention any names– but a prior running store I went to for fitting made it clear as day that Laces is the way to go. The sales person that fit me at that particular location acted like I was another number in the book (one size fits all kind of fitting) and basically explained the whole process as if she memorized it verbatim. Not saying I demand special treatment but it would have been nice to have a genuine explanation to the process. It was not personalized at all. Clarence is the COMPLETE opposite! And is the epitome of a great business/​salesman. He took about an hour and a half with me– Genuinely cared, and was very patient to find the right fit for my run. Definitely check this place out– thanks Clarence!

Thank again Unilocal ! I agree, this place is a wonderful establishment with employees who really love what they do and really care about their customers.
Mike assisted me on my very first visit. It’s a good sign when I am in and out of the door in under 30 minutes when buying shoes. That’s because I am über indecisive folks !!!
I mentioned how I was training for an upcoming half marathon and wanted a new pair of running shoes that were lightweight and gearing towards somewhat of a ‘minimalistic’ shoe.
The Mizuno and Saucony brands were amongst the two shoes I tried on. I already own a pair of these name brand shoes so I was very pleased with the selection.
Both were lightweight and easy on the feet. I find that I tend to roll my toe inward while I run so I had to test these babies out first. Mike observed my running style for each pair and we both agreed that the ‘Mizuno Wave Ronin 3′ was my best option.
For $ 99 and 10% new customer discount, I was sold ! I also bought a pair of insoles. Overall, a good investment.
Mike and the owner, Clarence were great ! They’re avid runners so it’s always good to hear their input on running techniques and shoes. Looking forward to visiting more often since it’s much closer to home.
