ETA: after we ate our tacos i went to open a container of salsa i had made from their salsa bar and it nearly exploded on me. The salsa had carbonated. Gross. Im hoping we dont get sick from this place. This place is now called sabor, but, ironically, their food has no sabor. I had a fish taco and chicken taco. Both were very dry and did not have enough filling for the amount of tortilla. The worst part is that their tint tacos come with the big price if 2.50 each. Don’t go here.

The name has changed to some thing like Sabor. We’ve been in there prior to the name change and thought it was okay, not a first choice, sort of a back-up, if the first back-up falls through. The final visit was about 2 weeks ago, under the new name. The order was wrong, the serving was itty-bitty, and not terribly warm. It seemed like it was microwaved. There were cheesy, printer-friendly signs hanging over the salsa bar. It had a feeling of a business not quite making it. Anyway, the bottom line here is that the food was terrible, the interior was way past cheese ball. In a city like San Diego, a Mexican place cannot survive it is cannot do it reasonably well. In an area where someone can through a football into the parking lot of at least 6 other taco shops, this place fails miserably.

I’m with Elite Unilocaler Leslie, the manager needs some customer service training. The other staff is great and helpful and the food is OK. Don’t go between 11:30 — 12:30 during the week. It’s gnarly busy.

Leslie is 100% right. The food is great, but the lady(name unknown. anyone?) is TERRIBLE. The worst part is that she is the owner. I had a very constructive conversation with her about her lack of people skills and how rude I thought she was to us as we ordered. I actually told her, to her face, that her lack of tact would prove to be the downfall of her business. One case in point is the manner in which she shoved her cook aside to take my order, which really proved to be just a series of barks and orders. She also realllly did not like that I tried to use a coupon. Her«make it a combo»(add chips + drink) sign is inaccurate – she says it is a «special» and shouldn’t count for the $ 5 off discount when bundled with a burrito. I said, okay, whatever, and then she still charged me for the items individually. If it weren’t for the high school and naval base next door, she would be out of business in a snap. Thinking about complaining to corporate because of her attitude… any other takers?

This place gets super busy during lunch when school is in session, since there is a high school right across the street. One of the people who is often working the register, I think they are an assistant manager, possibly a general manager, is really rude. For example, she doesn’t even look at you while you are ordering, and doesn’t give you a chance to say how you would like your order before she starts rattling off questions like«black or pinto beans? anything else? drink?» I know they are busy, but she takes it too far and is totally not at all personable — which is annoying. But, the food has always been good(for La Salsa food — don’t be expecting authentic Mexican), and the cooks and bus-people are friendly, give great service, and keep the place really clean. If it weren’t for that one manager or whatever she is, the rating would be four stars.
