La Jolla Shores 5K

I participated in the 5k this year to get a feel for the course. I plan to do the LJ Half next year in pursuit of the Triple Crown. Being sick for several days, I wasn’t expecting to do well — just wanted to get thru it.
–Mile 1: Straight downhill.
–Mile 2: Fairly flat — running along the shores and the communal streets. There were some visible potholes and cautious curves along this mile.
–Mile 3: OMG — Straight uphill! Luckily, I had the determination to run the whole way as many people at this point were dropping like flies. Once you reach Prospect, you begin your descend to the finish — which was quick and rewarding to the end.
Overall, I felt the event was well organized — from traffic, parking and timely start. The expo at the end of the race lacked from other expos I have been to.
Ended up finishing 6^th in my division — a shy 5 seconds of medaling. It was pretty disappointing to miss the medal, but I felt accomplished for even finishing despite my illness.

Very challenging course, and I can’t even imagine what to expect for the half. I better start training on those hills!!!
