Established in 1985.

Kite Flite San Diego is a family run business celebrating our 25th year at Seaport Village in downtown San Diego. We are located on the Boardwalk with a beautiful display spinning right outside. We are known for having the best customer service in town. Our staff personally test all of our items and are eager to share their expertise.

Kevin O.

Business Owner

Kevin started his business career at the early age of 8, when he decided to sell his Spin Art creations door to door. That early sales experience led him to being the youngest Wind Surfing distributor in Riverside County at the young age of 12. At UC Riverside, he continued his entrepreneur spirit, by joining Student Painters and managing a staff of 10 – 12 college students. After receiving his degree in Business, Kevin set out to find something he loved that he could market and sell. With sailing, windsurfing and kite flying being a major part of his free time, he took his Grandfather’s advice and looked towards opening his own kite store. After a year of searching, he found the perfect location — Seaport Village. Kevin started as an employee in the shop, quickly became the manager and within 5 years he bought Kite Flite. Kite Flite continues to be one of the most popular stores in Seaport Village — once inside you’ll see why.

Its a pretty site with all the beautiful display outside.
you will be tempted to go inside and the staff is so passionate and knowledgable about the kites that you may end up buying one.
They have a wide variety in different skill level, color and prices.
We bought a mid level one and it was beautiful. The only thing was they are expensive. we had to give 45 $ for a kite :(

If you’ve never been to Seaport Village, it’s comparable to Shoreline Village in Long Beach. It’s also connected to a nice park along the marina; The perfect place to fly a kite! Surrounded by the waters of the San Diego Bay, the wind is almost sure to be blowing.
Walking along the bay with my son, I immediately noticed all the kites in the air. Jealous and a bit disappointed, I really wished I had a kite. I glanced to my left and what do you know? There’s a kite shop right in front of me! Perfectly placed and brightly decorated.
Great opportunity to create a quality memory.
If you’re like me, and you’ve never flown a kite in your life. Don’t be intimidated. They have just the kite to make you feel like a pro!
The shop is full of color and fun things to look at, and also very organized. The staff are all professionals. You could tell that they love what they do. I had a lot of questions and the owner was very patient; Pointing out all the different styles and price ranges, he helped me find what I was looking for.
A simple kite that was easy to put together, not too expensive, and would last me a while.

You might be thinking, «NO STICKS?» Yup.
Ask about the «PARAFOIL-​5 Kites» or «Flip Kites»
They do carry less expensive items as well as more expensive kites. But like anything, you get what you pay for. They also carry lawn decorations and wind ornaments. Pretty much anything you can think of for a nice windy day.
The owner gave us a tutorial on how to get our kite in the air and even tied our string for us.
Tucked away with our picnic basket, we absolutely love our kite. Turns out to be very relaxing. If you don’t have one, you should think about getting one. They even let you try them out. (Good people!)

We were visiting San Diego and ended up in Seaport Village in the afternoon. We have 2 girls, age 6 and 9, and they LOVED looking at everything in (and outside of) Kite Flite. The people who work there are SO friendly and clearly love what they do, which looks like playing in a toy store, but is so much more than that. They WANT you to play with their merchandise! They show you how to use the really interesting and engaging toys and they play with you until you get the hang of it.
We borrowed 2 kites for a while (no time limit) and also watched lots of other kites being flown the lawn there. The girls ended up choosing the panda kite (there are so many designs in the $ 29.99 style) and we also loved another toy/​game so much we bought that, even though we had to discard the packaging to get it into the suitcase. When we were expressed disappointment that it was bulky, Michelle (one of the personnel) showed us how easy it would be to nest the parts and make it work. Because we had the kites out for a while, we interacted with 2 different personnel, and they were both fantastic and enthusiastic about playing. They even tied a particular knot in our new kite string, explaining how this particular knot will help the string not get twisted in the long run.
Long story short, the selection of kits and OTHER TOYS and the staff in this store are both phenomenal.

Kite Flite is on the waterfront right next to San Diego Surf co.
Of the 60+ shops here at Seaport Village, I would consider Kite Flite to be one of the anchor shops of the village. I visited in the afternoon and the staff was engaging and eager to let you play with the actual items even so far as to let you try out the kites on the nearby hill. They carry a host of flying items with some higher end models in the triple digit range but they do offer some cheaper souvenirs as well. I returned later that night and was greeted by Dave, a kind older gentlemen who seemed like a mix between Willy Wonka and Santa Claus in spirit and demeanor. I was caught up in his enthusiasm and I think we played with over ten items until closing time when I mentioned to him that I had been looking for something to play with my 4 year old nephew. I came in looking for one gift item and ended up buying six items altogether! I did not get a kite this time but they have an online site should you wish to purchase any items.
Visit Dave and the rest of the staff, they’ll be glad to not only tell you about the products, you also get to try before buying.

We don’t know of any other shops that specialize in kites, but really our experience here has been great. A little overwhelming with all the different options of kites but the employee who helped us was very knowledgeable, didn’t try to sell us the most expensive kite but instead educated us on the options/​functions. Reasonable prices kites and we ended up buying 2.

Seaport village is a great place to fly kites! We wanted to upgrade my daughters kite since the $ 6 one from toyrus just wasn’t cutting it. I did my research on Amazon and the kites at this store are priced very similar. We went with the most popular kite they had and it was priced at $ 29.99. They have a ton of designs to choose from. John I believe who was the owner was very helpful. He even fixed our old kite we brought in that we did not purchase at the store free of charge! My kids had a blast flying their new kites. Worth every penny :)
Minus one star because they said they validated my parking ticket but we still had to pay… bummer!

This shop makes you want to buy a kite! I haven’t been here in over a year, but today my friend and I were inspired to go kite shopping since it was such a nice day, and we happened to be in Seaport Village. The shop keeper was friendly and very helpful, and my friend ended up buying an adorable kite– very colorful, made in the image of a happy looking poision dart frog. We took the kite out to a grassy open area nearby and the wind sung under the kite and lifted it up into the air effortlessly. I always used to have this image of people struggling to get kites up into the air with a running start, but this was quite literally the easiest kite in the world to fly. We were able to lounge about on the grass while the kite remained aloft for over an hour. Excellent shop with great products!

This place is awesome. The kites are beautiful and the staff is great. I bought a kite several years ago and lost one if the cross bars for it. I was unable to find a replacement online. I went back to the store asking to buy a replacement. They handed me one at no charge with no questions asked. Made my day! Thank you!

I wandered into this store today because I was at the park for a concert, and realized I really, really wanted a new kite. I was hoping to get a simple plastic one for a few dollars, but after seeing the great selection, ended up with a beautiful $ 40 kite that handled like a dream. The associate on duty was knowledgeable and pleasant. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in San Diego!

I have to say the proprietor of this place really enjoys his work. My family was dislodged during the San Diego firestorms and we were staying at the Marriott. We bought a Beamo which is a soft flying disc and have been playing with it for months since I really appreciated his input and helpfulness.

Super friendly, great spot and well worth the money spent on purchasing a new kite. It is located perfectly in the heart of Seaport Village where you are already mesmerized by the number of beautiful kites being flown in the most picturesque part of the harbor. The owner is very nice, informative, helpful and friendly. He was generous and kind with his time and even gave me a kite, instructions on how to fly it, where to fly it for free just to test it out with full faith that I would return a happy customer — which I did, bought a kite (reasonably priced and excellent quality) for my son and it has been an excellent investment for all of us. We live in the city and have returned to the same spot in the seaport a dozen times already with this beautiful kite that is super easy to use, fly and store.

Call me a big kid, but I’ve been wanting to fly kites since we arrived in San Diego last month!
I held off on getting one b/​c everywhere else we looked the kites were super expensive. That was not the case at Kite Flite! They had kites of allllll shapes and sizes, from basic to advanced at a range of prices. They also had several lawn decorations and lots of other cool stuff.
Since this was my first time flying a kite in 10+ years I had no idea where to start. The shop owner was super sweet and helpful. He took his time explaining the pros and cons of several of the different types of kites in the store. I settled on a butterfly kite and named her Katie the Kite :)
I flew Katie on the grass a few feet away from the store where lots of other people were flying their kites. I had so much fun watching Katie soar high above the trees.
I’m excited to fly Katie the kite elsewhere around town!

This is located in Seaport Village. It is a great spot because there is an open field nearby to fly your kites. There are always guys flying kites there and a few regulars that have sophisticated kites with 4 lines that are very powerful and can fly in low wind.
The store is nice and open with a good selection of kites for every price range starting at 29.99. I bought a flip kite for 35 bucks
a very fun kite but it needs more wind than other kites.
The staff is very helpful and will let you try out some kites before you buy.
A great little shop. I wish they had some elaborate chinese kites though.

On Sunday afternoon I popped my head into Kite Flite with a few friends so that they could pick up a kite. My husband and I already had one so we were not in the market to purchase.
The gentleman behind the counter came to our assistance right away and let us know about all of the different options. My friends picked out a kite and brought it to the counter to pay and the man offered to lend us a couple kites to take out and said that the best time to fly is before dusk.
We were all blown away and completely impressed.
The kites flew great — I didn’t even have to run to get it up in the air. I held it in my hand and poof! it was up, up and away. Easy to control and a beautiful sight to see.
When we returned the kites, my husband and I decided to purchase a second kite because of the fun that we had.

From beginner children’s kites to advanced badass kites, Kite Flite has it all! Marci is AMAZING. She’s so friendly and laid back. We were able to test some other small air toys in the store – encouraged by Marci. This store is also located in the perfect spot, right outside their store is a big green lawn where you can fly your kite!
Kite Flite has a great policy, if you buy anything and it breaks they will replace it for free no matter where you live (you just pay for the shipping)! Somehow I broke the cross bar on my kite the first day and Kite Flite replaced it as promised.

On Friday, April 19th, I took my grandson to buy a kite, since it was such a beautiful perfect day to fly a kite. Marci was able to get us started with a simple kite. She set the kite up and we were ready to go… We had a few difficulties at the register, we found out the internet was not working, so she had to pull out, Marci called it the «dinosaur machine», lol… Well, I noticed on my bank statement that I was accidentally charged twice, so I called the store up & Marci comes to the rescue again… Marci remembered exactly that day and we both couldn’t stop laughing… Marci took care of the extra charge right over the phone. Now this is what I call GREAT customer service!!! Marci went on & beyond to take care of us in a very professional timely matter. Thank you Marci, you’re awesome!!!

Bright beautiful kites for all ages.
The colors are fun and you can’t help but smile.
They have easy to fly kites for $ 29 and more elaborate flight pieces in all types of shapes and sizes.
They have lots of spinners for the porch and lawn.
We were even given the chance to go out and fly one to «test» it. I was really tempted but I was short on time.
