Just Call Us Kitchen Rental

If this is not your last choice, I would recommend to leave this place alone.
It is close by my house, but I rent the other kitchen 10 miles away.

As a business that states multiple times that they are ²⁴⁄₇ I did not think twice about calling shortly after midnight, as I had just finished up a job. As a business owner myself, what happened was incredibly rude and unprofessional and I will not be using this company EVER. I feel I conservatively assumed that if a business is 24 hour and the name states to call, that they would be equipped with either phone operators at all hours or an automated answering service when operators were not available. Either would have been perfectly fine. Instead I was YELLED at, CURSED at, and HUNG UP ON. Why list a personal cell number as the primary business phone for a ²⁴⁄₇ company on a public website and not expect calls? Even so, I feel she could have handled it in many other more professional and less aggressive ways. She could have not answered, asked me to call back during the day, or even just hung up on me without the drama.
I feel others should be warned about this unprofessional behavior, and through reading other reviews I see I am not the only one who has seen this unprofessionalism.
(On a personal note raised voices and curse words are strong triggers for me as a survivor and sufferer of PTSD, therefore I spent hours shocked from this interaction, hallucinating and having severe suicidal ideation. I know this is not ‘normal’ or an expected reaction, but just a reminder to practice kindness in general, you never know what someone is going through)

We just started our business and are using Julie’ s kitchen and we are super excited. Had our first full night of cooking last night and it went better than planned. Space was clean, organized, and we had plenty of room to do what we needed to do. Now we just have to work on being more personally efficient. :) Thanks Julie!!!

As a new business owner, I needed a place to make my food products and when I first investigated rental kitchens, JCU stood out as not only a clean and well-​organized facility, but Julie Darling’s website is so full of useful information, I felt that this would be a great start. She is always professional, generous and empathetic to those of us entering the SD food «scene».
The kitchen is spacious and well-​equipped. The tenants are respectful. I’m so glad to have found JCU and to know that I am becoming part of a high-​quality community by knowing Julie and supporting the great work that she does.

I started my first business out of Julie’s kitchen, Rx Bitters, and I can’t speak more highly of her!!! She was incredible from our first day to our last day (when our production levels out grew her space) The Space was perfect and we never had one issue! For all those upstart food companies out here in SD get some time in her kitchen your future success will thank you!

I have been renting kitchen space from Just Call Us Kitchen for five years. Julie, the kitchen owner, was extremely helpful to me during the start up phase of my food based business. She connected me with produce suppliers, insurance companies and was instrumental in securing me my first sales location. In addition, she walked me through the Health Department procedures and answered many «red tape» questions that this new business owner had.
Julie’s support has continued during these last five years. She is very flexible and whenever I need to add or subtract rental hours she is very accommodating. The only problems I ever had in her kitchen were when other tenants were irresponsible and disrespectful of fellow renters. However, those tenants don’t last long in Julie’s kitchen. She does not tolerate sloppy, rude tenants.
I would recommend this kitchen to anyone getting started in the business. The only reason Just Call Us Kitchen doesn’t get five stars is because it’s not air conditioned and during the summer it can get hot.

+++ DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY +++
From the very beginning, our interactions here were bizarre and unusual. The name of the company is «Just Call Us», so we did! Instantly we were told to just go online and see everything there. The person didn’t have time to speak on the phone. She seemed very rude and unprofessional. We were in need of a kitchen space so we decided to let that go and give her the benefit of the doubt.
Over the course of our time there we noticed on occasion DOGS in the kitchen. Yes, cute furry little animals. Now normally it’d be great to pet a dog and say hello, but not while busy professionals are trying to prepare and cook food. A complaint was issued to the SD County Health Department.
Hours are tight and the lady always tries to squeeze multiple people into the same shift which on the surface is supposed to save everyone money, but that process is disorganized and causes more chaos in this small space. There will also be people coming in at odd hours (while you’re paying for the kitchen space) to clean their stuff and get in your way unannounced.
Through trial and error we’ve done our diligence and found that other spaces provide extremely professional environments to spread our wings. The camaraderie and enjoyment at a new location is unparalleled and their employees are professional, respectful, and courteous.
There also seems to be a pattern of folks that leave Just Don’t Call Us and go to other spaces for similar reasons. We’ve found out that we weren’t the first.
Save yourself the hassles and Just «Don’t» Call Them to start your culinary enterprise.
