J&I is a left coast cookery with cuisine focused on locally curated products cooked and presented in a radical way. The kitchen artfully churns out an array of avant-​garde, yet simple dishes intended to spark conversation among guests. Chef Richard Blais’ innovative menu will be divided into several categories including snacks, raw, toast and pasta in addition to plates, both large and small. Additionally, a 4×4 four-​course tasting menu, comprised of four small bites and four small plates, will be available soon with an optional wine pairing. The menu will present guests with unexpected iterations on the classics.

History

Juniper Hospitality and acclaimed Top Chef All-​Stars winner Richard Blais announced the opening of Juniper & Ivy (J&I), a modernist American restaurant located in San Diego’s historically rich Little Italy neighborhood, in March of 2014. Set in a converted 1920s sawtooth warehouse, J&I is poised to present the regional culinary landscape with a sophisticated dining experience that is as refined as it is playful.

The restaurant is the result of a unique partnership between owner Michael Rosen, a La Jolla, CA based investment manager of 27 years who trained at London’s prestigious Le Cordon Bleu, Richard Blais and Atlanta-​based Concentrics Restaurants. In their first «left coast» concept, Blais and the J&I team have culled some of the top talent in the industry including Executive Chef Jon Sloan (formerly of Roy’s San Diego), General Manager Dan Pean (formerly of Enlightened Hospitality Group), renowned cocktail specialist Jen Queen and sommelier Tami Wong (La Valencia Hotel).
