Was pretty much told I couldn’t afford to shop here, after giving me a lesson on the economics of being a tailor. Has lost my business.

Joseph is a true professional and a gentleman. I highly recommend to my fellow military officers and to senior military transitioning into the private sector. I told Joseph I was looking for a suit for my wedding and for interviews and he provided both with amazing quality and craftsmanship on time and under budget. Stop reading reviews, go sit down with Joseph, give him the due respect and time for his craft, and you will walk out with outstanding results!

Joseph knows what he’s talking about. Be respectful. He’s been doing this most of his life. I needed a suit for a wedding done in a day’s time. I went in to his store on Tuesday and he had it tailored with my pants hemmed the next day on my way to the airport. He takes pride in what he does and this suit is a perfect fit. I highly recommend Joseph. Best suits in San Diego.

Walked in to see about getting a pair of slacks hemmed. He had them done I. Less than an hour and they look great. I would recommend this location to anyone who needs professional assistance with just about anything.

My husband went in to get 2 new custom made suits for work. Joseph was very forward with my husband and said that he was more than happy to make them for him, but said that honestly it would be a waste of money. He told my husband the suits he had on hand were just as nice as the custom suits he has made in the past, and after alterations, you wouldn’t even know that it wasn’t made specifically for his body. Joseph also refused to sell him anything until he brought his wife (me) in to approve! Ha!
When I met Joseph, I was early meeting my husband here, so he offered me espresso while I waited. I declined but thanked him for being so sweet… upon which he then offered me wine. I also declined this as well but he went on to tell me stories of him and his wife, his clients, and his work. I watched, as he was talking, at the suit he was currently working on and I could tell he took great pride in all of his work. I got the impression that he is a very old fashioned man.
My husband finally met us and he showed me the suits he was interested in. In addition to the suits, Joseph also threw in 2 shirts and 2 ties in the price he quoted us for both suits. He had my husband try on the suits both before and after alterations to check the fit. They were both beautifully made and very well altered.
Overall, my husband and I don’t usually spend too much money on clothes, but then again we also don’t get the type of quality you would find at Joseph’s with the clothes we do buy. Joseph’s suits range from $ 800-​$ 2500, but there are suits that he will negotiate price on and some even marked down.
My advice is to do your research and know what you are looking for when you come in. Joseph won’t waste your time, but also won’t let you waste his. My husband and I will definitely return in the future when we are in the market for another great suit.

I went in with my boyfriend looking for a belt. Joseph told us over and over that we needed to go on the Biggest Loser and told us we were going to die young because we were so fat. He was SO disrespectful and SO rude. I was livid when I left the store and I will never go back. I will also tell all of my friends if they’re ever in need of a suit to go somewhere else where they will actually be treated in a respectful manner no matter their size.

Joseph did a great job altering my suit and hemming my pants. He also took some time to show me what alterations needed to be done for a custom shirt I ordered so that I could inform the company. I’m not very knowledgeable about suits, but Joseph took the time to explain how the suit and pants should fit and also how I should take care of the suit; very valuable information. I’ve seen the other reviews that suggested Joseph was rude. He certainly won’t coddle you — he has his opinions and he’ll let you know. That being said, I think he realized I was uncomfortable and didn’t know much about suits, and I thought he was respectful and even told me not to stress out. If you have a very specific idea of what you want done with your suit and Joseph doesn’t agree, you may want to go elsewhere. However, I think most people will appreciate Joseph’s craftsmanship and knowledge. I also thought the price for my alteration was good relative to previous alterations I’ve had done.

If your looking for good customer service this is not the place! Walked in asking about tuxedo accessories and the elder gentleman told me I wasting his time after he tried to wheel and deal a simple cummerbund… lol!

If you are looking for a cheap suit that falls apart or doesn’t quite fit you to a tee then don’t bother seeing Joseph.
On the other hand, if you are looking for old world quality and one on one service then Joseph is the man you are looking for.
I felt the prices were reasonable given the attention to quality, detail and service you get from Joseph. Not to mention the stories you get to hear like how he apprenticed for 10 years without pay back in Italy.
Joseph is without a doubt the real deal when it comes to tailoring.

I recently had a large weight loss and a favorite, very expensive jacket didn’t fit. I took it to Joseph’s which is close to my office.
His first question after I tried on the jacket was «Is it worth altering?» He explained that since the amount of tailoring it would take was a lot, the costs for alteration would also be high and the jacket might not be worth the amount of the alteration. It was and he proceeded to do it.
He called before it was supposed to be done, that he had completed all the work.
I picked it up today and it was perfect.
He was never condescending or impolite. Quite the opposite, he was polite, courteous and full of great information and stories. He carries very good merchandise and I will be going back to him for my suits.

I went to see Joseph to get a suit for my husband’s birthday. I have no clue about suits and Joseph is very knowledgeable. He was able to help me narrow down the suit, the size, the shirts and the ties. When my husband saw the suit he loved it. We went in for alterations and the end result is a fantastic and a fitting suit.
Joseph’s approach is very personalized and very blunt. He is no BS type of a guy and I loved that. It was refreshing to hear a truly professional recommendation vs a «this looks great on you» from a regular salesperson. If you would like some sand in your eyes go to a big retailer. If you want a great suit go to Joseph’s.

I needed a suit and wardrobe for a 3 week business trip to Japan. Joseph helped me coordinate a full wardrobe, and even went as far as to alter a suit that I already had purchased elsewhere so that I could include that as well. He was especially generous with a military discount. When I went in, he chose some things that I would not have initially chosen, but I have to admit that when I tried on the entire ensemble, it really came together and I loved the look. He knows what he’s doing! I had not used a custom tailor like this before, but now that I found Joseph, I’m not sure I could go back to buying off the shelf suits. It’s incredible how much better everything fits and looks when it’s custom tailored by a professional like Joseph.
I found him to be a pleasure to work with, and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone I know. It’s not cheap, but it’s an incredible value. You come away with a suit that is top quality, fit’s perfectly, and will last you for years.

I would not recommend Josephs. If things turn out perfect then you may be fine. If you try on your clothes after alterations and it doesn’t fit or wasn’t done right you will be met with rudeness and resistance. There is absolutely no common goal to achieve a great fit here (despite the significant money you’ve spent). You will not find a guy who will become «your tailor». He certainly is far too short tempered and patronizing to be any kind of a gentleman tailor. In fact he does not encourage you to try your clothes on before you leave. And he asked for my money before the final alterations were done. That should be a dead give away.

Went in looking for a sport coat. I walked out with two and a pair of trousers. The trousers looked liked parachutes on me when I first tried them on, but Joseph promised me they would look excellent when he was through with them. He delivered in spades! They looked incredible, taken in everywhere that I wanted and he even tapered the legs to give a more modern look. This man can do anything you need when it comes to tailoring and he can sell you one hell of an outfit too!

I first went to Joseph a year ago at age 28, with nothing but a minimal idea that I wanted to look my best. Joseph took the time to find out where I was in my life/​career and helped me select the clothes that would appropriately fit my lifestyle. He then walked me through the fabrics and styles that were both classic and contemporary.. He showed me how to choose colors that would better fit my skin tone/​hair color and taught me how to pair the different pieces of an outfit together to make my look more cutting edge.
What I have found as time has gone on is that I have no reason to go to the normal department stores. Whatever I need, I can call Joseph and he can not only get it for me, he makes it look better than it ever could have buying it anywhere else. Every time I walk in, I feel like I’m taking a step back into a forgotten age. A time when people really cared and knew about their clients. It’s a place that, like really good wine, has that irreplaceable «Old World Charm».
Now a year later, I can tell you without any question I have never looked better in my life.

Come in with an open mind and put your trust in a person who, after 68 years of experience, knows his trade! Typically you have to be worth a whole lot of money to get this kind of one-​on-​one experience. There’s nothing else like it in San Diego!

In a word, outstanding. I live in a relatively small town in the midwest with few mens’ clothing stores, so I called Joseph prior to a business trip to San Diego. My main question was whether I could try on clothes on a Fri afternoon (after my flight arrived) and pick them up before my meetings started in earnest on Sun evening. He said yes. I showed up Fri afternoon, spent two hours in the store, got great advice and purchased a suit, a sport coat, pants, 3 shirts and a tie — all for a very competitive price. Joseph spent Fri afternoon/​evening tailoring and pressing my purchases to fit, and he even tailored another shirt that I’d brought with me from home. I picked them all up Sat morning and I couldn’t be happier. The clothes are high quality, the fit is perfect, and the service was unmatched. Highly recommended.

If you care about how you look, go see Joseph. Every dignified man has a tailor he can trust and depend on. Joseph has been tailoring menswear longer than I have been alive. He takes a great deal of pride in his work. He knows when you leave his shop people are going to stop you ask «where did you get that suit?» Happens to me all the time. You can’t find a better tailor than Joseph.

To look your best, go see Joseph. Exceptional service that can’t be surpassed. He is a superb tailor, and knows how to make a suit fit your body. His prices are extremely reasonable. You could go to Mens Warehouse or the like, but the quality will be subpar and the tailors won’t take the same care or pay attention to details as Joseph does. Pay a little bit more money to get a high quality custom suit that will last you a lifetime and make you look better than your peers.

Come here with a purpose, not to browse. Joseph’s time is valuable, and so is yours. So have an idea in your head. Do you want a suit? New slacks? A sport coat? A number of ties? All of the above? Make a list, and then walk over.
