Joe’s Pizza

Yes, this location is closed. I didn’t think the pizza was all that special when it was here, but I did met Joe, and he really is a nice guy. In that location is now a thrift shop where the profits go to helping animals in need – the same shop that had been at the other end of the shopping center by Sips and the now also closed Mr. Bön’s. If you like thrift stores this one is definitely worth giving your unwanted items to and checking out for someone else’s cast-​offs.

Joe’s has relocated to 3755 Murphy Canyon Road, and still has great pizza!

STAFF: cocky young staff. 2 times I was in there got treated like I was a bother. Really? I was quiet polite and friendly. I just came to eat with one friend :-/​it’s not my fault if ur day is crappy and you work behind an oven. The owner on the other hand is probably one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met :0) odd dichotomy then isn’t that???
FOOD: Ok so I may have been a little harsh in my previous review, but straight up the food sucks. I will be more open and articulate better, but I’m not going to cater to some upset response by an owner just because he’s mad. Hey man I’m sorry cuz ur super nice, but this isnt about you don’t take it sooo personal — it’s about the food and the service. The food just isnt that great. It all tastes frozen, & if it is, that’s CLEARLY the problem!
So in regards to the owners comments to me:
Yes I grew up back east in the tri-​state area, mostly Philly — but also NY. No I’m not a born-​in-​NY-​New Yorker, but I have lived there for quite some time, and what’s more in that whole region for over 25yrs. And yes that WHOLE region is known for pizza, not jus NY so to all the new-​yorkers that are going to slam me, I bet there’s more italians in Philly than NYC lol… NEway…
RECAP: this food is just mediocre at best. What else can I say. Im just being honest. I gave it a try — twice. Same each time. Read the reviews — I ain’t the only one… I can’t change your restaurant — only you can.

SO, if you don’t have a pallet for Italian food and aren’t able to distinguish the difference, try it out. It’s family oriented and overall chill. (although smells kinda like tennis shoes — needs a carpet cleaning? Ok maybe it’s the cheese, but if so toss some Febreeze around or Glade plug-​ins)

If people say it & it’s within reason, well consider changing it, it’s only there to help OTHER people have a good experience OR help you to provide a better one. Frankly, I’d look at it as vital insider business advice straight from the customer, ya kno? The only time people are unhappy is when the reviews don’t favor them. SO LOOK AT IT AS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL TO IMPROVE ;)

I went to try this pizza buffet being that I work close by and my Mother in law lives a few blocks away and their signs always call my attention, so I finally go in all by myself, not sure of what to expect.
I atleast wanted tasty pizza and all the other stuff others said was available to them when they came here, well there was no pasta, no soup, but there was salad and pizza. I would like to say their warm pepperoni pizza was good and also the cannoli dessert pizza was good, I tried the other pizzas but they were mostly cold slices that were just left there out for a while and didn’t really get to enjoy and see if they were really good, I tried a slice of the BBQ one and although cold it was tasty, the other ones looked kind of stale for me to try, the owner (or man behind the counter who I think was the owner) was pretty nice.
All in all I think maybe if I go there again and want to have a better experience with the pizzas I suggest probably going during lunch rush hour, because I took a late lunch and I think by then they had winded down and that might be the reason why there were not many fresh pizzas.
I defenatelly want to give it another try and I’m even going today to order a couple of pizzas for carry out to take to my Son’s school party to have others taste it, I hope not to be dissapointed… :)

All I have to say is yummy!!! I love this place, the owner is there day in and day out! Food is great! Kids love it!!!

THE first thing I noticed about this place was the smell. It had that cheesy, footsy aura about it– kind of like the smell at your local McDonalds Playplace or Chuck E. Cheese’s. I guess its a popular place for little leaguers and pop warnerites to go celebrate.
Besides the smell, the pizza was not half-​bad. They make it with a thin-​crust, and offer a wide variety of special pizzas to choose from. If I were to come to Joe’s again, I’d order the BBQ pizza. Its overwhelmingly the best pizza they dish up.

I really wanted to like this place, especially after reading the reviews posted here.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The pizza was so-​so, with practically no crust to speak of. The toppings were fine, but the overall pie was substandard — not up to par with other buffets such as John’s Incredible Pizza.
The pasta dish they were serving was not tasty at all, but the soup was pretty good. The salad bar is so-​so.
On top of that, the place was quite messy, and this was at a time when it wasn’t very busy, and it looked like employees had plenty of time to go out and clean the dining room a bit instead of flirting and gobbling pizza right out of the buffet with their hands.
On top of that, the delivery drivers were also grabbing slices of pizza right off the buffet with their hands.
In summary: sub-​standard buffet food, messy dining room and questionable food-​handling habits by the staff make this place a no-​go.

I wanted to do a quick update on Joe’s. The owner sent me a message offering to buy a pizza for the kids being unable to eat the pizza last time and I took him up on it. The funny thing is that my husband had ordered from them a couple times after that and never realized this was the place I didn’t like!
I was so GLAD that I gave them another shot. Amazing pizza and the owner is awesome! I also got the artichoke and spinach dip and woud say anyone should try it!

Joe’s Pizza — boy, I like Joe. The guy, I mean, he’s very nice. I see there are some reviews saying the pizza was not hot when they arrived — the same occurred to us. Of course, Joe immediately asked how many of what kinds of pizzas we’d like put onto the buffet. Out came 5 fresh pizzas in just a few minutes. 5 fresh pizzas for 2 people. And the fresh pizzas were quite good! I enjoyed all of them, especially the Extreme.
The pasta left a bit to be desired, being along the same lines as what one gets at Mr Gatti’s or Ci Ci’s, but the salad bar was quite admirable. There was a wide variety of items available on the salad bar and we both enjoyed it.
My fiancée does not drink soda or tea, and so Joe offered her a bottled water with her meal at no further cost. He even gave us the sales pitch for the Nika (spelling?) water and it’s local source, environmentally friendly production, and philanthropic purposes.
Joe and his pizza were great!

I’ve been coming here a few times during long lunches on work breaks. Perhaps one of the only reasons is the cheap price and unlimited slices of pizza and salad you can devour up. The owner is of course very nice, but I can’t let it effect on how the quality of the pizza is.
When you pay for your meal, you’re presented with many pizzas under heat lamps. First of all, heat lamps are awesome to keep the pizza warm, but when they sit out long ago, it slowly bakes them and makes it stale and hard. In this case, they need to rotate out the ones sitting there for awhile for the new baked ones. Instead it’s just left there until people eat them. Which is why bad reviews are being said. Sometimes you get the pizza’s that’s been sitting out there for awhile. The pizza needs a little work, it’s really nothing super fancy from just getting a frozen pizza from the supermarket and baking it at home.
All in all, it’s not bad pizza, but the quality could be better. Certain pizzas are damn good when it comes right out of the oven, but some are bleh. The salad is pretty good as you can put tons of toppings on it. I havn’t tried the soup yet.
You get what you pay for.
PROS:
1] If there’s not a pizza up there, ask them. Or if you want a fresh one, ask them, they will bake it
2] Unlimited PIZZZZZAAA!!! If you’re not entirely picky
3] Unlimited SALAD!!!
4] Lots of parking in the lot
CONS:
1] Pizzas are left out too long and gets stale and hard
2] Some of the pizzas are a bit bland

Had the buffet lunch, seemed like a couple selections of old pizza. I was really disappointed that the pizza was just bland. There was also a soup and salad bar, which was also disappointing.
I would never go back, but it is not nearly as bad as John’s Inedible Pizza.

A pizza buffet? Why, you don’t say. Joe’s Pizza is located right by Sipz in that desolate corner no one drives to. Well, at least me anyway.
When you first get in, you see a bunch of pizzas sitting under sneeze guards buffet style. Sigh. If only this place was around when I was a kid.
I got the buffet, of course, and pretty much tried all their options. My favorite was the buffalo chicken and the canoli desert pizza.
They also had pasta at the end, but really, who’d want to touch that? Maybe some salad to make you feel not as guilty but other than that, pizza all the way.

Joe’s Pizza is conveniently located right off the 805 in Clairemont Mesa West. Wow I’m surprised by the overall 3.5 stars! Joe’s Pizza is awesome! The owner, Joe is really nice too.
Come here for their AYCE deal! It’s AYCE for $ 10 and you get the salads and dessert pizzas too. Get the beer on tap and hang out with friends. There’s plenty of seating and TVs here. I love thin crust pizza! There are so many varieties here. They have dessert pizza too! I never had dessert pizza until Joe’s! They also have Vegetarian pizzas too!
Recommendations:
Garlic Cheesy Bread: If you’ve read my other reviews you’ll know how much I love garlic. I always end up eating 3 – 4 pieces of this garlic goodness!
Canoli Dessert Pizza: Yumm! Canoli pizza?! Yes you gotta HAVE it!
Xtreme Pizza: Mushroom, cheddar, sausage, pepperoni, and garlic! Yes I love everything with garlic. Haha.

Of course, I came here again, and OF COURSE, it was just as amazing as usual. Wednesday is double stamp day, so I recommend you all come on Wednesday so you can fill up your stamp card more quickly towards a free buffet!
As usual, Joe (at least I think it was Joe :) was super friendly and personable, which always makes it a pleasure to eat here. Today, the pizzas were coming out QUICKLY and in tons of different varieties! All the pizzas that I tried today were amazing. Notable pizzas were the taco pizza (with refried bean sauce! SO cool, visually stunning, and tasty!), the pizza with linguni, meat, and tomato sauce (it was AMAZING, seriously, genius idea right there) and the pizza with tomato and goat cheese (I think?).
I didn’t notice this during my last visit, but today, they made a cannoli dessert pizza. It was AMAZING. PURE DELICIOUSNESS. Seriously, so good. I’ll probably have dreams about it tonight. :)
If you haven’t come here yet and you like pizza, then something is wrong with you. Joe is awesome, the different variations of pizza are GENIUS and tasty, and it’s a buffet! Seriously, everyone should come here at least once to experience pizza creativity at its finest.

I came here a couple times since a lot of fraternities and sororities I know have fundraisers at Joe’s pizza. And this place has a really good all you can eat deal.
For the buffet, you can choose from a variety of pizzas. There’s BBQ chicken, cheese pizza, pepperoni, veggie, bacon and other pizzas. You can also eat at the salad bar as well. One of my favorites from Joe’s Pizza is the dessert pizza. the dessert pizza is DELICIOUS! I always end up eating a whole lotta dessert pizza than anything else.
Joe’s pizza is a great place go for pizza. The owner Joe is very nice too. Service is great, food is yummy:) Go for the all you can eat buffet!

I came here with a bunch of people on the recommendation of one guy who comes here for Starcraft viewing parties, apparently. They kept the pizza buffet opened later just for us since my friend called so that was cool.
Unfortunately, we got there, and all the pizzas in the buffet were cold with congealed cheese. Okay, excusable since it seemed like a slow night, but still, not a great first impression. Salad bar was also kind of lacking, but then again, how many people go to a pizza place for the salad bar, amiright? I’ve been trying to eat my veggies lately though so I would’ve appreciated more selection of vegetables (no more cucumbers in the salad bar when I came! Corn — the non-​baby carrot variety — would be nice as would some fresh bell peppers).
Soup was really, really terrible. I scraped the bottom of the tomato soup, and it was honestly all parmesan and tasted disgusting. I’m always one for finishing my food, but it was pretty inedible at that point, and they should’ve just taken out the soup at that point if it’s THAT soup-​less. I was seriously contemplating kicking down my review to two stars just for the soup. And it wasn’t just me! My boyfriend also agreed that the soup was made inedible by the amount of parmesan.
BUT service was really nice. They made fresh pizzas just for our group (I say just for our group since we were the only people eating at the all you can eat pizza at that point, and our group ate like 5 pizzas). Spicy chicken was okay (too salty for the majority of us), cheesy bread was very alfredo-​y if you’re into that thing. There were two pizzas that I really liked though: Meat Madness and some unnamed pizza with BBQ sauce, bacon, green onions, pineapple, and more. This pizza was pretty awesome, and I guess made up for that inedible soup. Neither pizza skimped on the toppings so pluses for that. Meat Madness was quite salty though so maybe cutting down on the sodium content would make it better.
Server girl (don’t remember her name) was also very amiable.
So, tl;dr? Friendly service (four star quality), okay food (two star quality), don’t get the soup if the pot is almost empty. I guess I’d eat here again if I was REALLY hungry.

This is a great place to eat if you would like to get some pizza! It’s $ 9.99 for a buffet lunch, and you can have so much pizza!!! If they don’t have it out, you can also request it to be made and it will come right out for you!!!
I really liked the dessert pizza that came out in the end. It wasn’t really like «wet» pizza… it was more dry which cinnamon and sugar. It was so good when it was hot!!!
I also liked the BBQ pizza. :) It was very tasty.
The salad bar was also amazing, with baby corn, black beans, fruit, beets, etc.
This place is totally worth a pizza buffet lunch!

On my way to another place for lunch… the «All You Can Eat» buffet sign in the window caught my eye… Now, I was a little nervous based on past experiences with Pizza buffets. They are rarely pulled off with great success.
But Joe’s Pizza does a very good job!
First of all… The service was excellent. The guy at the counter gave me the rundown of the place along with a frequent diner’s card that calls for $ 1 off every subsequent lunch. Another cool thing… The guy called out every new refill on the salad, pizza and desert when they reached the buffet bar.
The Buffet…
The Salad bar was simple and fresh. The lettuce was crisp and clean as well as the other toppings.
The soup special was a Pumpkin soup. I didn’t go for this — not really my style… But I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it is good.
The pizza was above average. It was a thin crust with a tasty sauce and good cheese to sauce ratio. There were about 6 different pizzas at any given time out there — ranging from cheese, pepperoni, pepperoni & sausage, ham & pineapple, veggie and one of there specialty pizzas — THE EXTREME…
THE EXTREME was very good — a creamy garlic sauce, multiple cheeses, pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onions and some other stuff I can’t remember… Well done, Joe!
The place is wide open with a lot of seating. There are a lot of TVs around the place; however none are HD. I found it very hard to watch any of them… Luckily, they were rockin’ some 70s tunes over the speakers. «Is that Freedom Rock, man?! Well… turn it up, man!!!»
8 Bucks for all you can eat (good) pizza. I’ll be back.

This was probably the first place I checked out solely because of reading about it on Unilocal.
Joe, Kim, and their staff quickly made me a fan, and I’ve become a regular. I’d rate it 4 ½ stars if I could… that’s how much I like it there.
Where to begin… really good pizza, and the buffet is by FAR the best deal in town, especially if you can put away some food! During a recent period of extended unemployment, I’d stop in during the afternoon with my laptop (free wifi? Of course!), sit there and casually spend 2 or even 3 hours surfing the web, taking my time eating, and getting lots of refills of soda. Never once did Joe ever make me feel less than welcome, or that I was taking up space or taking advantage of the situation. On the contrary, he’d always ask if I’d gotten enough to eat, ask if there was a certain pie I’d like him to make for me (why yes, Joe, a Bacon Cheddar would be great, thanks!), and also make sure I’d gotten all I wanted before they tore down the buffet for the day.
The Buffalo Chicken, Barbecue Chicken, and Taco Pizza are among my other favorites, as well as lot of the other ‘standards’: Pepperoni, Sausage and Onion, etc.
They’ve got lots of other stuff on the menu, which I’ve tried some of… Philly Cheese, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Meatball sandwiches are all good choices. Tried a calzone once that was pretty good, even though I’m not normally a fan of those… the thing was so big I could only eat half of it, and coming from me that’s saying a lot. I rarely have leftovers left over to take home, but I did that night! lol
The salad bar (included in the buffet, or 3 bucks I think if you have it by itself or with another meal) doesn’t have the biggest variety, but it pretty much covers the basics and the stuff is reasonably fresh most of the time. The dressings are all very high quality. not cheap watery stuff at all.
They also have some pasta dishes, I think I’ve had the lasagna. Il Fornaio it definitely isn’t, but for the price it’s hard to beat.
They have a fairly small but solid selection of beer… be sure and go on Thursday night for $ 2 beers!
Another big thing about Joe’s is the people, especially Joe and Kim. Besides really caring about their business and customers, you can see how important their family is to them, and I’ve also witnessed firsthand their sincerity and generosity when it comes to those that are less fortunate than themselves, especially in the current tough times. Much better than I would or could be, if I was in their place.
Eating at Joe’s kind of reminds me of going to Grandma’s house for dinner. It’s very familiar and comfortable, you don’t expect perfection, sometimes you might have to ask for things you’d expect not to have to ask for, and might actually be irritated when having to ask at other places, but somehow you just don’t mind. You’re happy with Grandma just the way she is and her little quirks only add to her charm.

I just wanted to start by saying this place is great! If you like tasty, thin crust, delectable pizza, this place is for you. I go here almost every Wednesday and stuff my face with every kind of pizza imaginable. The buffet is $ 7.50 per person and I probably ate an entire pizza today. They also have a cool frequent eater program where you get a free buffet every ten times you eat there (Wednesday is double stamp day).
Service is great and anyone who says otherwise is a liar! Anyway, fun place to go with friends and colleagues. Easy to get to as it is right off the 805. See you there!
