I provide high quality therapy for couples, individuals, teens, and children who want help changing relationship or behavior patterns that are no longer working for them. I also provide behavior and autism consultations to schools, residential facilities, churches, and other organizations. People appreciate coming to me because I am warm, safe, funny, and knowledgeable. My specialized training and/​or certifications include EMDR (trauma treatment), EFT (couples or parent-​teen conflict reduction), non-​directive play therapy, sand tray, and pet-​assisted therapy. Expertise in autism has been gained «on the ground» as a mother of three teens with varying degrees of autism as well as in professional contexts.

History

Established in 2010.

Established in 2010 Prior to getting licensed as an MFT, I provided therapy at a Christian university in Illinois, and at a local counseling agency. I also provided autism consultation at a school for disabled children in Jakarta, Indonesia and taught on autism, also in Indonesia. Once licensed in 2010, I opened my private practice based in Scripps Ranch, San Diego and have seen couples, families, individuals, and children of all ages. I currently have a second office in El Cajon, Granite Hills area, and as needed, in Carlsbad, California.

Jennifer McMains is a knowledgeable and experienced Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice. She works exceptionally well with couples, parent-​teen dyads, and individuals experiencing relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, and disability issues affecting the family. She is certified in EMDR, a trauma treatment that is used by the military and to treat all sorts of traumas, from combat stress, to childhood abuse, automobile accidents, and domestic violence. She’s had extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Non-​Directive Play Therapy, Journaling for Therapeutic Purpose, Personality Disorders, Autism, and domestic violence. She is a preferred provider for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, and the San Diego Adoption Center. Jennifer has trained in psychology and theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and can provide high quality Christian and Biblical counseling for those who request it.
