I am a long term patient of Dr Lupton & a fairly recent client of Shawn’s. I highly recommend this practice for skin issues & beautification. I have never been kept waiting longer than 15 minutes, had anyone be rude to me or had any sort of negative experience. I’m floored after reading that others have had this experience here! I have had many laser treatments (no injectables for me) & also taken my kids & husband for acne, scar & skin cancer screenings, whereas I am 99.9% about the anti aging stuff. I envision being lifetime clients, as I doubt I could find as outstanding a dermatologist elsewhere. My skin looks amazing, due to his skill, conservative treatments & my following his advise. Thanks to Dr Lupton & Shawn, I can go makeup free every day if I choose! What I like is his tactful honesty. I have also accepted that treatments don’t last forever — upkeep is required! I wonder if the dissatisfied reviewers expect a one shot skin miracle, when sadly, that doesn’t ever happen. Shawn is by far the best aesthetician I’ve ever seen, as well as a lovely person!

Sorry to have to give anyone a rating of one star. The staff, the P.A. and the Esthetician are very good. The office is clean and attractive. Dr. Lupton is not friendly, doesn’t say much, just leaves you sitting there and then one of his girls will make excuses for him. Oh, and that’s if you get to see him. Good luck if you have an HMO. Don’t fall for all of the follow up appointments either, they’re for your co-​pays!

I’m very disappointed with Dr. Lupton & with the Pixel laser procedure I had done. I wanted to treat wrinkles & made it quite clear to Dr. Lupton that I didn’t want to chose a procedure that required multiple treatments for effective results.
He assured me that the Pixel laser would substantially decrease my wrinkles & skin tone with only one treatment. Based on his recommendation, I proceeded with the Pixel laser treatment. He also told me that the skin would continue to repair itself & over time improve dramatically.
There was light flaking & I initially saw no results or differences. I gave it time as Dr. Lupton suggested but the skin never improved, not even marginally. I paid $ 650 for one Pixel session & it was a complete waste of money! I could have received the same (or even better) results from a $ 10 at home very light chemical peel.
I reached out to Dr. Lupton, explained everything & sent in pictures, but he refused to remedy the issue or take responsibility for his inaccurate claims.
There are plenty of other professional, reputable dermatologists available who appreciate their patients & don’t make false claims.

Dr Lupton recently treated my face for Rosacea with the VBeam laser. I am so impressed with the results. He told me up front what the best approach would be and he was right! The office is extremely clean and his staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend him.

Showed up for my 1^st appointment with this clinic 14 minutes late (wouldn’t have been more than probably 5 minutes late if I hadn’t missed the hard to see turn into the driveway, forcing me to sit a a series of lights waiting to take the required two U-​turns on El Camino Real to get back). My appointment was at 11:45 am. I showed up with all four pieces of paperwork filled out and signed. Upon arriving, the snooty woman at the front said, «your appointment was at 11:45, we have a meeting at 12. The doctor had to call back another patient instead of you, so I’m afraid we are going to have to reschedule.» I will state the obvious… what clinic schedules a new patient for a fifteen minute time period and also double books that time?
I have been going to doctors and dentists for decades, and have yet not to sit waiting in the waiting room beyond my appointment despite almost always arriving early.
My wife is looking for a new dermatologist as well. They are missing out on two patients, both with good insurance.

This dermatologist’s office feels more like a nail salon or a tanning salon. You will see below that most people have never actually seen the named dermatologist, which speaks for itself. The staff are not well trained for a medical office. A physician’s office should have properly trained staff who can do more than collect fees at the door. Those who have been seen by the illustrious Dr Lupton leave wishing they hadn’t.

I was referred by a friend to get a facial from Shawn about two years. One of the best referrals I have received to date. Shawn has an exuberant bubbly personality, and has an amazing skin complexion herself, so I knew I would be in good hands. Shawn uses a dermaplaning technique with a blade that exfoliates the dead skin off of your face. I was intrigued by the whole process and she literally showed me all the dry skin she was removing from my face on one of my first visits. I was floored; I couldn’t believe all that dead skin was lying on my skin this whole time. Shawn is extremely professional and you can tell she is well seasoned in her field. She asks all the right questions and knows exactly the type of treatment to provide based on your skin type. She offers skin care do’s and don’ts. I suffer from acne prone skin and she literally refuses to let me leave the office without ensuring she has extracted every single blemish. She truly cares about what she does, and takes tremendous pride in her work. My complexion has never looked better since seeing her, and I have received several compliments on my skin. My complexion is much brighter looking and even in tone, and I feel that skin care products work better as a result. My makeup sits so much better on my skin now, with no uneven grab or patches. I generally receive a facial from Shawn every 6 – 8 weeks, but it is my understanding that every 4 weeks is optimal. I would highly recommend Shawn to anyone and any skin type looking for a great quality facial to add to their skin care routine.

I have been a patient of Shawn’s for 1 year now. I was seeing her at another office but followed her to this office. Shawn gives the most incredible facials. As an adult woman I have acne prone skin and Shawn has dramatically reduced my breakouts and has gotten my skin under control. She is meticulous, knowledgeable, and extremely committed to what she does. I feel grateful to have found Shawn. I am a lifetime patient of hers.
On a side note, the office is very upscale and contemporary. I love the way it is decorated, and the front desk staff are very polite and nice. I have never waited more than 2 minutes for my scheduled appointment. If I ever need any other dermatology services, Dr. Lupton is definitely who I will see.

I have never actually had an appointment with Dr. Lupton, however, I have been a client of aesthetician Shawn McDonald for at least 6 years now. I followed her to Dr. Lupton’s office from her previous place of employment because I would never consider letting anyone else work on my face!
Shawn is professional, knowledgeable, and always willing to try new tactics to conquer my problematic, acne-​prone skin. Not to mention, she’s a lot of fun to talk to and I enjoy our conversations throughout every procedure! I always look forward to a session with Shawn because I know that she will clear my problem areas and in an hour have me feeling fresh-​faced and rejuvenated. I would highly recommend her expertise to anyone in need of a facial!

While I have not specifically met with Dr. Lupton for care, I visit San Diego Dermatology and Laser Center for facials with Shawn McDonald. Shawn is an amazing esthetician with 30 plus years of experience. Shawn has cleared my severe acne scars and hyperpigmentation through dermaplaning. My skin glows and I receive compliments almost every day.
I have referred friends of all ethnicities and skin types to Shawn. They all love her and thank me for sharing my beautiful skin secret. Overall the office setting is professional and the price for a facial is competitive for the area. There is plenty of parking and the location is easy to get to. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for beautiful, healthy skin to visit Shawn in this office.

Let me start by saying I’m no Pollyanna, but Dr. Lupton is truly the best on so many different levels. I have been seeing Dr. Lupton for approximately six years. I was referred to Dr. Lupton by another doctor to help with discoloration on my neck after surgery. It was as if he performed magic. I was truly amazed at the results. I was so impressed with Dr. Lupton from the very first visit. I asked him about some other procedures and he said «you don’t need that.» He is so honest and the epitome of ethical behavior. This is certainly quite refreshing in this day and age. He has never once tried to sell me any procedures or products that would not work on my skin issues or were otherwise unnecessary. He’s told me what would and wouldn’t work and he has delivered each and every time. Dr. Lupton uses state-​of-​the –art equipment so you know you are getting the best there is out there.
Over the years I have had laser hair removal, laser treatments for rosacea and brown spots, removal of spider veins, filler, and Botox for migraines and could not be happier with the results. Let me add that all these treatments have been at my request and if the doctor did not think I would get the desired result (s), he would tell me so. He has also looked at those odd growths that pop up from time-​to-​time and biopsies them if necessary. If I have those occasional pesky adult acne flare-​ups, he gives me samples to try before prescribing something. I receive so many compliments on my skin and have referred a number of people to Dr. Lupton all of whom are also extremely pleased with him and his office. On that note, his office staff is simply wonderful. They are warm and personable and eager to help. They all, including the doctor, have great senses of humor, which doesn’t hurt! Run, don’t walk, to see Dr. Lupton. You won’t be sorry.

I had derma pen done on my face as well as filler under my eyes… dr Lupton is very gentle, patient, and can tell you exactly what you need done.
The staff is very friendly and the office is very beautiful and clean.

DO NOT GO HERE! They really only ‘appreciate’ your business if you are paying non-​insured cosmetic procedures like Juvaderm, Botox, etc. I have been seeing various dermatologists regularly for years. I usually go in to have a cyst or stubborn blackhead zapped as well, nothing major.
The wait time was excessive (nearly 45 minutes) in the cold, uncomfortable waiting area. Of course, they collected my office visit fee immediately. The nurse practitioner saw me. I stated that I had persistent acne, skin tag, and a cyst. Any other dermatologist would have removed them, no problem. This office wanted me to cough up a large amount of cash for the «cosmetic procedure». They wouldn’t even zap my cyst and skin tag. I said, «No thanks. I’ve been to plenty of dermatologists and this is an aberration of service.» The NP gives me a look indicating I don’t meet the requirements of their clientele that can afford the really important procedures like Botox injections. I showed him another problem area and he tells my skin is like «barnacles». Hey thanks, Doc! I haven’t been insulted by a doctor in lets see now, how about Never! So this would be a first that a medical professional, when they can’t extort cash from a patient, insults said patient.
I went someplace else. They zapped my tag and cyst. They gave me a chemical peel, covered by my insurance, for my acne. They also told me about my common medical skin condition that causes bumps. They made recommendations on the treatment. Not once did they suggest my skin was like «barnacles». To the contrary, they told me I have very nice skin.
This office and staff are the worst. The takeaway is if you have a problem, leave and go somewhere else because any place is better than this.

STOP! And look no further! After trying many dermatologists and doctors to try to minimize the appearance of my stretch marks and getting no results, I finally made an appointment with someone who came highly recommended! I am so glad I did!
Dr. Lupton and his staff are the most gentle and kind people, I never felt judged or uncomfortable there. He was honest with me and didn’t try to sell me on a bunch of other hopeless products that I knew would never work. He told me what would and what wouldn’t and he delivered exactly what he promised! I had stretch marks in places nobody wants to see– Dr. Lupton performed a laser on me that not only showed me results but gave me my self confidence back!
I have been seeing him now for a while now, and having him help me with my ongoing skin battle! When my acne showed up again he recommended some topical creams and treated me with another laser that not only keeps me break out free for months, but also removed my acne scars that I was so embarrassed about from my teenage years.
I am so grateful to Dr. Lupton and his staff for truly helping me to be comfortable in my own skin. If you are looking for a dermatologist, please call and make an appointment you will not be disappointed!

When I showed up to my appointment the staff was very friendly very inviting and made me feel welcome. I was seen on time Dr Lupton was very professional, super knowledgeable with my skin type am very happy with my results. If you’re looking for great service this is the place for you!

My impression is that this office does not have the time for new patients, and their service is suffering because of it. Here is what I experienced:
1) Appointments take about 2 weeks to schedule. You will probably not be scheduled with Dr. Lupton, but rather one of his assistants.
2) Even the assistants don’t have time for you. After 2 weeks, and probably an hour of waiting at the office, I got about 5 minutes.
3) I was prescribed a steroid gel to put on my eye. This is a bad thing as it turns out.
4) During my second visit, the same assistant saw me. He didn’t remember me, clearly did not know why I was there, was upset that I was prescribed a steroid for my eye (until I reminded him that he was the one who prescribed the gel).
5) Upon the realization that Dr. Luptons office had me doing something which could be dangerous to my health (and eyesight!) I obviously had some questions. After two questions and one answer, the assistant left to go get something. He never came back, but rather sent someone else in to tell me that I was done.
After this, I considered scheduling another appointment here to address my concerns, but I opted to not wait another two weeks and found a new doctor. The best part about going to Dr. Lupton’s office is that I knew my next doctor couldn’t be any worse.

I went in for consultation for some cysts I had on my scalp. Very straightforward and quick meeting with the Doctor to examine and outline the procedure.
Nice waiting area and soothing environment. All of the staff is helpful and informative.

I decided to go to Dr. Lupton based on the Unilocal reviews. Although he was currently out of the country on a trip, I was WELL taken care of by the staff and Dr. Lupton’s PA (Physician’s Assistant).
Everyone was very nice and helpful. The office is very clean and modern (cute!)
I went in to get multiple warts treated; it was a very quick process. I recommend them!

I was referred to Dr. Lupton by a friend 2 years ago and can not thank her enough for that recommendation. I have been to a couple different doctors in the past, but none of them came close to the professionalism Dr. Lupton and his staff show me on each visit. He is very patient, informative, and personable. He makes me feel comfortable and allows me plenty of time answer all my questions are answered. I love a doctor that doesn’t make you feel rushed, especially when he’s doing cosmetic work.

Dr. Lupton is a great dermatologist! I started seeing him about a year ago for acne issues and I’ve never been happier with my skin! He never tries to sell or push any expensive products, which is a RARE find these days. He always recommends over the counter or drugstore products that are inexpensive. But, if you want to know about higher end products he’ll tell you about them and give you samples.
The only down side is that he talks really fast. So don’t be afraid to ask him to repeat things or to ask questions. His office staff and nurses aren’t very friendly… but this won’t stop me from going there. His esthetician Sue is amazing and does the best facials!
