International Bath and Tile

I went in looking for subway tile. Jerry Moch was more than helpful. He was informative, thoughtful, and patient. He helped me find just the right tile and a great price. I would recommend you stop by their extensive showroom. They’ve got every including the kitchen sink!

My husband I have had the worst experience with this place. If you’re looking for a company that will sell you material and once you have paid want nothing to do with you, then you’ve come to the right spot. We had decent customer service while choosing the tile and fixtures we wanted. Once we had paid, everything went down hill. We were given our order in bits and pieces over the past 2 months, and we STILL do not have everything. I would call the store asking for the sales person who help us (Vanessa), she somehow was ALWAYS with a customer, and after leaving multiple messages, holding on the phone, leaving voicemails, we would never hear back from her. I got through once… I wanted status on our order. She was insistent that we had everything, but couldn’t repeat to me what we had ordered. The warehouse confirmed we did NOT have everything, and I never was able to get a hold of her again. We were very disappointed with their service. There is a major lack of communication between the sore and the warehouse. Something we ordered would be waiting for us to pick up, but we would never know unless we called. There are plenty of other places to go. International Bath and Tile is NOT one of them.

Wow what a night and day experience!
I had checked out Home Depot and had a terrible experience with the guy who came to my house to measure, he was an incredibly smiley sales person who wouldn’t answer any of my questions directly.
Then I heard about International Bath and Tile from a friend and went to check it out. Not only were the pricing comparable but the selection was incredible! We has Lorin Moch as our adviser internally and she gave us really insightful guidance. or as I deemed it «sage wisdom». we just completed our bathroom remodel and could not be happier with our decisions and the service and price that IBT offered. We will be using them to redo our kitchen soon as well.

I found International Bath and Tile on an internet search for a specific type of tile that I was looking for. My customer service rep’s name was Lorin Moch.
I started communicating with Lorin December 4, 2014. She got me the pricing that I needed, and sent me a formal quote which I signed, emailed, and then I mailed a check in to avoid the 3% uncharge for credit cards.
On December 22, after not being able to get ahold of Lorin by email or phone, I talked to Philemon in their warehouse. He said that my order wasn’t even in the system, and he didn’t see it. I sent another email to Lorin, and called the showroom looking for her manager, and somehow, I got a call back within 15 minutes. Lorin told me at that time that Roadway was my trucking company, and it was on a truck and would be delivered to me on December 26, or the 29^th and that she would get me the trucking company’s information so I could follow up with them. Then she told me that the weather was causing delays gave me the freight tracking number, and my phone number to call the trucking company. Ok, weather, whatever. So, it’s now another 10 days later, and Lorin tells me that the trucking company is delivering the tile today, January 8, so I call the trucking company to see what their time schedule is so I can have my guys there to off load the truck. The trucking company says that the truck that was supposed to have it, doesn’t, so I need to check with my vendor rep to see where it is.
So, I called the showroom, left a message and an email for Lorin. Then called back and asked for the owner. I was told that I can’t have the owner’s name as it is confidential. Um, this is a company, not the CIA, all I want to know is who he is so I will know who is supposed to call me back. This makes me feel really uncomfortable now. I have spent $ 3,000.00 and I don’t have any tile. My project is behind schedule, and my customer is unhappy, and why? Because I tried to purchase tile from International Bath & Tile.
If and when this gets resolved I would be glad to revisit this review, but right now, I am not a very happy customer, and I have not given even a little bit of customer service. I would like to get my tile order, and complete my job. I need to do this in a timely manner. International Bath & Tile, Help Me!!!

They sell defective tiles and then don’t stand behind their product. It started fine but then the tiles they sold had very bad flaws in them and they told me it was my problem. They said I could buy more and throw out he bad ones. I would stay away from this place. They want to sell you and not stand behind their products.

Just an update. Jerry helped me and I eventually bought their woodlike tiles for my floor. Again, they dont have a big selection of woodlike tiles but they had exactly what I was looking for that no one else had. The delivery was on time and the tiles came without damage. I got about 7 boxes left over because my tile setter (not from this store) did such a fantastic job. See the picture.

Let me start with the great stuff. The designer I used was excellent, helped me pick out a ton of stuff for my new home. They have the best selection for viewing on the spot anywhere around. Now, the bad stuff… after making my selections, my tile installer told me I was paying far too much. I had no idea. He sent me to San Diego Marble and Tile in El Cajon and long behold… he was right. It seriously added up, I am not talking about a few dollars, I am talking several thousands. Granted, I needed 1300 sq ft of «tile» plus 3 bathrooms, but still. So after discovering this, I started thinking about all the plumbing fixture prices — are these over inflated prices too? Yup. Sure enough, this was the case. 3 bathrooms I was buying fixtures for and we are talking over $ 2k difference. Wow. I did some research, found a few online companies that sell the Hansgrohe line of products. Priced out the items and found a company located very close to IBT, well, actually right next door. Plumbtile offers the exact same product. I talked to the IBT people, they told me if I purchased from this company it would void the warranty on my Hansgrohe product. Interesting I thought. I contacted Hansgrohe and they told me this is not the case and their products are guaranteed no matter what! I then contacted Hansgrohe again, two more times, spoke to 2 more people to confirm — all in writing to cover my back. Through further investigation, I found out Plumbtile is the sister company of IBT. So, if you buy something from IBT you pay much higher prices. The gals at Plumbtile told me specifically to go to their showroom at IBT but left me with the impression I should sneak in without mentioning my buying from Plumbtile. The email addresses from the customer service at Plumbtile even has the same IBT extension!
The entire buying experience was so bizarre. I worked in the manufacturing market for 25 years selling through retailers, this has to be the weirdest business model I have seen. The staff at Plumbtile doesn’t talk to IBT and they sort of frown down on each other. I was made to feel at IBT I should be ashamed to check prices in the market as if I should be willing to pay thousands of dollars more.
Now, the customer service at IBT is very good along with their design expertise. But, its not worth thousands of dollars (try $ 5k for both plumbing and tile…)
The customer service at Plumbtile is not very good. The customer service is not available when you call, they take way too long ie; days and weeks to respond, sometimes no response and the credit for 1 small item still took months to be issued (ended up disputing it on my credit card it took so long). This may not be the people themselves but a result from not enough people working? When I did talk to the staff, they were very nice and professional. It would just be nice to see faster turnaround on requests (and I dont mean same day, like the next day or 3 would be nice). But, the prices are competitive but in line with other online retailers such as;
amongst many others. I picked Plumbtile just because they were local so I could pick my product up if need be but nothing more.
So, bottom line… take a look at IBT but be sure to price shop. Everyone is selling the same exact stuff, the only thing they can do is compete on price… IBT keeps a serious lockdown on their samples. No photo’s in the store etc. If you borrow samples, you have to give them a credit card as insurance they will be returned. If you don’t return them in a few days, they are calling you asking where they are and how they need them immediately. After the price fiasco, now I know why!

They have a great selection here! By far the best display room and variety of choices that I have seen. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
Jerry was wonderful to work with. I am very satisfied with all of the selections he helped me make. He always spent a lot of time to make sure we got everything right and gave me very good prices.

As a designer, it is very important to work with people that have thorough product knowledge and the ability to suggest more options to a creative mind. The overall experience was awesome! Thanks for everything, I will be back with more design projects.

By far the best place to shop for bath and tile in San Diego! When you first walk in the showroom you think uh oh, this place is going to be expensive because all you see it quality, quality, quality. But, wrong!, they also have the best pricing in town. My husband and I do our homework, believe me. We get several bids when doing a remodel project in our home. International Bath & Tile, not only had better products from major companies but their staff is truly amazing when helping you pull it all together! Jerry and Lorin — YOU ROCK!

Having some serious trouble with this store. First, I agree that the salespeople are for the most part icy. I did find one that was helpful — but she guided me towards products that did not match my needs at all. I bought them (two faucets — expensive — not available to view in the store), they arrived late and were just plain totally wrong. I then returned them — unused — original packaging — to IBT. That was July. Now it is December. I cannot seem to get a refund, no matter what I do. Very simple transaction. What am I supposed to do? We are talking $ 500+. I feel robbed. Next stop: Better Business Bureau. And, reading the other reviews. .. . would love to know why I should not give them a credit card. Why check only?

This place is really a gem in San Diego. They have a huge variety of just about everything and anything your mind can conceive when it comes to tile, bathroom fixtures, and hardware goes. You definitely have to come in with a bit of patience though as the selection can be overwhelming but certainly worth browsing through!

we recently remodeled our master bath and international bath/​tile was the 4^th place we visited looking for that perfect tile. this place has a lot to offer, but we were only looking for tile so i can’t comment on everything else.
Purvita helped us choose the tile and placed our order. we went a little tile crazy and decided to cover more square footage than originally planned/​in the original order; Purvita did a rush order for us so we could have everything asap.
if we were to remodel another room that required tile, we would go back to international bath/​tile and look for Purvita.

Jerry was great he really helped us make decisions and kept the entire process simple and easy and saved us a bunch of money. In the end we have an amazing new bathroom. Very very happy.

THEY OBVIOUSLY DON’T WANT TO MAKE ANY EFFORT. Go to Tosca on Miramar.
We had a couple of tiling projects to do so began to shop around. I find it is always best to present the smaller projects first and see if a company offers good service for those. Then I can have confidence in them for the bigger jobs.
Pros for International Bath and Tile:
The showroom is nice and they have a fairly large selection on display.
Cons for International Bath and Tile
We went into showroom. No one approached to help us and it took a while to find someone. She obviously preferred not to be bothered. I started to explain what we needed, and after a few phrases, she interrupted me in a loud voice, saying, «You know you can’t get the tile today». Huh? What did that have to do with anything? I said the same to her. And restarted my explanation. Again, she interrupted and a told her, since I had taken the trouble to drive there and didn’t want it to be a total waste, and thinking I would give it another try, «Why don’t you just show me some tile before you say anything more negative?»
She said, well, just look around the store and tell me if you like anything. No suggestions, nothing. So I did and showed her some I liked. I had to pick up a big heavy piece and go to her desk because she wouldn’t get up and walk over to me. Too busy chatting on the phone. She nastily said, «That won’t work for what you are doing». I pointed out that that was why I had asked her to at least point me in the direction of some suitable material. More of same ensued, with her telling me I had to buy tiles on blocks in squares and cut them apart??? Eventually, I found something I thought I liked and would work. I had to explain to her how it would work for this job and she finally said, yes, it would. So I told her the dimensions of the area and the required dimensions of the tile and asked for a price quote. To give a quote would require her to do a simple calculation of the total area and then determine, based on how the tile was sold, how much tile I would need to buy.
Miss personality again said «Oh, we don’t calculate any square footage». Me: «so how will you give me the price quote». Her: drooling like look. «Uh, we don’t do that».
Me and husband: «Yes, it seems like you don’t do anything at all here. Goodbye».
All of this was watched by a man looking to be the manager and he said nothing.
WENT TO TOSCA ON MIRAMAR AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE! SO NICE AND WELCOMING. SO MANY SUGGESTIONS! SUCH FAST SERVICE.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE DIMWITS AT INTERNATIONAL BATH AND TILE. TOO BAD, LOOKS LIKE THE MATERIAL SELECTION IS NICE. BUT THEY JUST CAN’T BE BOTHERED TO DO ANYTHING THAT IS WORK.

i presume since i’m not white nor middle aged the staff there assumed i was not worth trying to get a commission from. no hello, no how can i help you, eyes turn away from you when you make eye contact and smile. what a shameful excuse for customer service. i agree with adrienne K, who also contributes a multitude of reviews for Unilocal.i had the exact same experience as her.

They weren’t quick to greet me, but when Purvita introduced herself, she was welcoming and kindly offered her assistance.
I was disappointed to learn that they don’t offer installation, they only refer out.
Overall, the showroom is beautiful, but a bit stuffy and confusing if you are not sure what you need.
I also thought it was bizarre that two of the employees never said hello to me when I was browsing right in front of their desk, and I clearly heard them reviewing an order and discussing their mark up and profitability. It made me uncomfortable to work with them, felt like I would get over charged.

Nothing but good things to say about IBT. Worked with Michelle and had a fantastic experience. Incredible selection. Remodeled four bathrooms using about ten different tiles. Michelle kept us updated on the status of all of our orders. When we had to order some more tile, it was as easy as calling her up and paying over the phone. Pricing is fair for the high quality they offer. Be prepared to spend a few hours in the showroom, though… SO much to choose from!

I went in here looking for porcelain tiles and was a bit disappointed by their limited selection. However, if you’re looking for accent strips, art decos, mosaic, etc., then this is the place for you! They have a vast amount of tile decorations to choose from. The stuff they sell here are pricey, however, I do admit that their selections are «nicer» than most other stores like Dixieline and of course, Home Depot. I’m coming back to buy some art decos and mosaics for sure.
Here’s a tip for you: do NOT buy floor/​wall tiles from here. They don’t stock them at all, therefore, they markup their prices.
