Industrial Grind Coffee

I live in Tierrasanta, and I used to swing by this coffee shop location daily. It’s right by the entrance to the freeway and very convenient. Industrial Grind Coffee took over in October, as before that it was a different coffee shop. The place that was here before used to give punch cards that were «buy 9, get 1 free.» Well I have two of those cards saved up, and after being out of the country for a while on deployment, I came back today and tried to use my punch card for a free cup of coffee. The young man at the counter told me to get lost. I asked him to honor the punch card for 1 free cup of coffee and told him that I live down the street and come here regularly. He said «obviously you don’t come here very often,» then he told me to go some where else if I don’t agree. Needless to say, I went to Starbucks today and I won’t ever be going back to Industrial Grind Coffee. Customer LOST. Very disappointed in the customer service here.

Horrible scone. I got an almond scone and simply couldn’t eat it — after second bite I tossed it in the trash.
Okay hazelnut latte — too sweet for my taste. Good foam though.

Updated review! Still one star. Zero if I could. They still can’t get the chai mix right. I got a huge chunk of powder in my mouth and coughed up a storm. Also their food selection is really sad. They only have about three sandwiches which are for breakfast. Everything else is pre made. They have lasagna in a cup in their fridge. Sad looking. If you look at the pictures posted you can see how little meat they put on their breakfast sandwich. Just looks like egg whites and cheese. Barely a thin slice of ham. That’s not what I wanna pay for. A lot of the selection is gluten free but I’m not looking for that. For a company which also is a bakery they don’t have any lunch sandwiches. I’m not going to buy your bread if I can’t try it first. So with the bad drink and bad food selections I’d rather just go to the subway next door and stop at Starbucks on my way home. I wish I could support this small business but I just can’t. I’ve tried but it’s just plain bad. Sorry.

Love Industrial Grind. I ran in at 5:58pm they were closing at 6pm not only did the barista make me a Latte she made a toasted peanut butter/​jelly bagel. Oh so good. Then a week later when I met a colleague there for a meeting another barista offered to make me a drink that she makes for herself. Being the adventurous soul that I am, I said of course. It was lip smackin yummilicious! Tasted like malt and really good — don’t remember what she said she put in it (stop sighing). So you can go in and say «are you the barista with the custom drink?» I think adding it to their drink offereing list would be wise. I know she works on Mondays and Thursdays.

This place has the worst coffee I’ve ever had I’m guessing all the positive reviews are fakes. The coffee had an odd metallic taste.

If you are looking for an alternative to the usual Starbucks like and atmosphere this is a great option.
The coffee was very good and the banana bread was amazing. Cozy and quaint a great way to start any morning– especially a weekend.

The people and everything are nice but since coffee courtier closed down, it’s not as good.
I mainly came here for the acai bowl but not the granola isn’t even good.
I’m currently looking for a new acai bowl place

Industrial Grind Coffee, the Tierrasanta location, opened last October. I’ve been a frequent visitor since day one. Not needing to add half & half told me the coffee was good. Not being a connoisseur, I did not know the coffee was great. That changed last week when I heard that Industrial Grind Coffee had won the iHeartRadio, ‘San Diego’s Best Coffee 2016′ contest. Thirty-​two local coffee shops competed.
IGC has helpful, friendly staff, interested in serving a great product in a pleasant environment.
I bring an insulated coffee mug with me for a several reasons. It’s good for the environment, good for my wallet (they charge for one-​size-​smaller if you bring your own mug), and I can get a refill to take home with me for later.
Booths have outlets, perfect for working on a laptop. Snack while working? I used to get the gluten free bread. Not that I care that it’s gluten free. Just that it tastes great. Then I switched to the Cinnamon Raisin Oat Bar which for weeks was my only choice. Now they have Cheesecake! My life is getting complicated with too many good choices.
Kymberlie — was that OK? My daughter said I could write a review as long as long as it wasn’t too good. She wants to be sure there is a table available when we visit.

They make a fine double espresso! Friendly service in a clean, comfortable environment.

Best espresso in San Diego (imho).
Great vibe at the outside tables, great conversation, and always a nice westerly breeze.
If you like the quiet solitude that Tierrasanta can offer, this coffee shop is the perfect compliment.
Slight changes they made from the previous owners are all positive.
I think they could expand their food options with some healthy/​vegan choices.

So happy to have this place right up the road from me! The staff is super friendly and I had the chicken quinoa salad which was absolutely delicious!

Holy crap! Amazing gluten free bread is hard to find, but they have it!!! Better yet, they actually make it themselves.
I tried the new location in Santee (they don’t have a Unilocal yet). I’m so glad I stopped in.
The woman behind the counter was friendly and explained all the different specialty lattes. Options range from coconut, whopper, lavender, white mocha, Mexican mocha, etc.
I settled on the lavender with almond milk. Yummm! The lavender is subtle, the coffee strong.
Now for the baked goods… My gluten free peeps know how hard it is to find GOOD GF options, especially in Santee. I got 3 slices so I could try a variety. Chocolate zucchini, pineapple, and blueberry orange. They were all very good, but the blueberry was my fave. Honestly, it was the best GF bread I’ve tried.

A bit pricey, but for good reason – they are serving a high quality product.
Their coffee is THE SMOOTHEST I have ever tried, and their baked goods are just excellent. Very nice/​knowledgeable staff too :)

We love Industrial Grind! Their coffee is excellent, the espresso is smooth and not bitter, the pastries are delicious and their staff is super nice, attentive and genuine. The fact that Industrial Grind is a locally owned, veteran owned, woman owned, small business in our neighborhood are just added bonuses.

I miss Coffee Couture but gave this place a try because I like its sister location in Hillcrest. I like the atmosphere at the Hillcrest location better, but so far I am fine with this location. I get a steamed soy milk with whipped cream for only $ 1. Can’t beat that. Looking forward to trying some of their food offerings later on.

Best spot for coffee in Tierrasanta. Even if you’re not in the neighborhood it’s worth driving to.
They have great quality coffee that gets me fueled for the day. Their coffee is not watered down, nor is it bitter. In December, they had a variety of flavors to dress up your holiday coffee & I decided to try a white chocolate peppermint latte. Even though it sounded overly sweet, it wasn’t. I could still taste the smooth coffee. It showed they’re serious about making quality coffee that didn’t need to be masked with sugar.
Industrial Grind took over the previous coffee shop & one major difference is the service. The service here is so welcoming! Everyone is happy to serve you & you can tell they love what they do.

Pulled in off the freeway in a desparate grope for caffeine. Comfortable atmosphere, extremely friendly but in a «it’s still early in the morning and I get that» non abrasive or intrusive way which is fantastic and the coffee/​espresso was delicious. Got the job done in and out in less than five. Will be back, would recommend

I see the Industrial Grind is expanding and that’s a good thing! I been to their location on Park Blvd., on several occasions with great results, and this visit to this new location in Tierrasanta was no different. I stopped in on an early Sunday morning and order a Café au Lait and a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich served on a toasted everything bagel.
The café au lait was terrific. The coffee was flavorful and the hot milk gave the coffee a nice light creaminess. Industrial Grind Definitely lived up to its reputation on this one. The breakfast sandwich was good. I was a little surprised it did not come with the yolk in my egg, and I wish they would advertise that, because I wanted it. In the end, the sandwich was good, but the egg white would of benefited from some seasoning and the sandwich with more ham. The everything bagel was well toasted and the cheese was fine.
Service was very good, but I said, they need to update the menu so that it reads that their breakfast sandwiches do not come with yolk or include it. I like the yolk and I am glad to see they are still making great coffee.

I’ve been a regular here for over 2 years before the new owners took over. I absolutely felt that the lattes cappuccinos and espressos were the best in San Diego here. I must say at first I was not excited when the new owners took over (when things are awesome change is usually not good). However, I feel that now after 3 weeks under the new owners they have vindicated themselves. They kept the staff that really know what they are doing. And it’s still perfect every time. The old owner was an artisan at his craft. The new owners I believe started out focusing on fast and good. But I guess I was wrong. They’ve continued the focus on the high quality artisan level grind. So far I’m loving it. Here’s to hoping that continues!

I recently visited IGC’s newest location on Santo Rd and was very much satisfied as expected. Kathy and Barb take SO much pride in perfecting everything they serve… from coffee, tea, gluten free pastries to delicious sandwiches. If I lived in San Diego this would not only be my #1 coffee shop, it would be my preferred selection for lunch. I was thrilled with the customer service from all their employees… especially Nile who had such a pleasant welcoming smile. Thanks to all! I will be back.
