History

Established in 1960.

Donald Teemsma Sr. and his wife Barbara founded Ideal Plumbing & Heating in Allied Gardens more than 50 years ago. At the time they ran the company as a home-​based business with only one ’53 Ford pick-​up truck and the garage as the warehouse. In 1962, Ideal Plumbing & Heating outgrew the Teemsma home when Don and Barbara opened their first storefront shop on Waring Road.

In 1994 Don Sr. passed the torch to Don Jr. Like his father, Donald Teemsma Jr., had early roots in the industry. He spent his early years in the family hardware store learning the ins and outs of all kinds of home repair needs. Don’s foundation has served Ideal well, allowing the company’s services to expand over the years to include air conditioning, electrical plus kitchen and bath remodeling.

Today Ideal serves homes and businesses all over San Diego County. We stand by our work and employ only qualified, trained technicians to provide you with safe, expert service.

Don Teemsma Jr., President/​CEO of Ideal has early roots in the Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical and Remodeling Industry. Don and Melissa Teemsma took over as owners of Ideal in 1992. The Company is a 3-​time Finalist of the San Diego BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics (2013, 2012 and 2004). Don is very involved in the San Diego Community. He serves on the Board for the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation and is also a member of San Diego Rotary Club 33 and the San Diego Executives’ Association.

Ideal has just replaced my hot water heater, the pressure regulator to my condo unit, the shut off valve to my unit and the innards of a fussy toilet. They did a great job, and though they are not the cheapest choice around, they stand by their work and it is always first quality. i appreciate the fact that my garage floor was cleaner after they replaced the water heater then it was before they started work. Anytime I have had a large job that I wanted done, I have called Ideal for almost 30 years.

Once again Ideal did a great job of coming to our home and resolving an issue in our bathroom. They are always very responsive, professional and leave their work area clean. This time they had to come back several times to make sure they had the right part, but no matter how much time it took to find the right part, they solved it with not extra charge.

I’ve used Ideal plumbing services for many years, primarily to service my tankless water heater; the heater core expired after 5 or 6 years and the manufacturer warranty covered the heater core at no cost to me however it was my responsibility to pay for installation. Said manufacturer also required I install a water softening system or have the unit serviced annually; the $ 200.00 annual service charge was a bit much & after a little investigating I located Dover plumbing & dealt with owner who stated they would flush the system for considerably less, I even supplied the 5 gallons of vinegar. Yahoo I saved some bucks… NOT the unit failed to heat properly & I called Ideal to do the service right. Their technicians are courteous, professional and on time.

Recently had Ideal out to do our yearly service on ouor A/​C unit. The news is that they have kept it running for several years, but it was time to put the old one out of it’s pain.
The Ideal team gave us an estimate on replacement, and gave us the documentation about how much it might save us each month. The installation went terrific. The workers, the workmanship, the follow up and training and the confidence we got from our install was all top notch.
With the new systems our utility bills are over 20% lower, and with the rebates that they found for us, our system will pay for iteself in under a year.
I will say I beleive that Ideal is the best in San Diego. Don’t waste you time looking around. Go with the Ideal solution.

I used them for HVAC repair, tech was Lars. He was great, very happy with the service and knowledge. I had another company replace the circuit board, they wired it wrong and could not figure it out. I had enough of back and forth with them and decided to call Ideal. They had the wiring issue corrected in an hour and system works great! Thank you!

A great company! Had them install an HVAC system. From the beginning to the end Ideal was honest, trustworthy, competent, and professional. I met about 5 different employees and all of them treated me with the utmost respect and professionalism.
Not only did they come in with the most competitive bid, they installed the HVAC system in 5 days. Everything from duct work to electrical and everything in between.
There is a reason why this company has been around for 50+ years. Give Ideal a shot, you will not regret it.
