Huxley Salon offers a wide variety of services. From haircuts, colors, highlights, styling, makeup, extensions, to simple consultations we have something for everyone. If you’re looking for a makeup artist we have two amazing stylists who do makeup for all kinds of events from bridal to birthday parties!

History

Established in 2015.

Aubree Hill started her career assisting some of the best hairdressers in the world, including Richard Ashforth and Charmaine Piche, former Creative Directors of Vidal Sassoon & Founders of Saco.

Fast forward to 2013 after years of experience utilizing various platforms in the hair & makeup industries, and Aubree had her own studio salon, Hair By Aubree, specializing in weddings & special events.

Then in 2015 she decided to grow her business and open a full sized salon in Downtown San Diego.

The salon’s ultimate goal is to provide clean, stylish, & healthy hair and make-​up to all clients, while providing the best of services to make each & every client feel beautiful with unmatched expertise, talent, and grace.

Business Owner

Aubree has worked as a color specialist for many years. Starting her career off in La Jolla, CA assisting under Thomas Leach at Blue Salon, working her way up to a stylist. She received training from some of the best hairdressers in the world including Richard Ashforth and Charmaine Piche, former Vidal Sassoon creative directors and founders of Saco. She went on to assist in opening a school as the color educator and specialist for Saco Salon and Academy, traveled for and was a TOP STYLIST platform artist for Wella, and a color specialist/​educator for Paul Mitchell the School San Diego. She has taken many classes from Temptu professional airbrush school, specializing in wedding makeup. Aubree loves to style hair and do makeup for weddings and special events. She has successfully opened Huxely by bringing in strong, driven individuals that she can train to produce the same quality of work as she.

My hair has been waiting its whole life for Danielle. SHE. IS. AMAZING! I found Danielle on Instagram like a creeper (hey, we do have a mutual friend). So, I waited until the very last minute before my trip to Vegas for a wedding to get my hair done like the true procrastinator that I am. Danielle was able to book me immediately and communicated thoroughly about the cut and color I wanted. She is so sweet and it’s obvious that she is passionate about her job and her clients. She reassured me by saying I could call her if I didn’t like the cut/​color afterwards. I have never felt so comfortable visiting a salon for the first time. I have had some truly traumatizing experiences at ritzy high-​end salons in San Francisco but those days are over! Huxley Salon has a hip and industrial vibe, I dig it. Danielle is such a sweetheart, I can’t wait to go back and see her next week!

Patrick!!!
He is just freaking amazing. Every time I leave his chair I feel like should have plans to go out. He’s amazing at color, extensions, and blowouts all my favorite things. I’d recommend him to anyone. My Mother is a hairdresser and when she comes to town she even sees Patrick and says how talented he is.

Okay, so Huxley and Aubree are the very best you’re going to find in San Diego. The salon is so relaxing, wine, coffee, and great products. Aubree will make sure she understands your needs and takes her time to assure you’re happy when you leave. I did deduct one star because I had serious price shock upon checkout… While the service was amazing, it’s easily the most I have ever paid in my whole life (or heard of anyone paying). If you’re on a budget, ask about price before service begins.

My hairstylist doesn’t usually work weekends and I urgently needed someone to do an updo for a wedding I had coming up. I reached out to a ton of friends and one was adamant that I try Aubree. It’s hard to pick a name from a list but after seeing all her reviews and pictures I decided I’d make an appointment. I am extremely happy I did! Aubree did an amazing job and was able to keep an updo fun and looking young still. I would recommend her for weddings and brides any day! I’m looking forward to going back to try some of the other services!

Aubrey just cut over ten inches off my hair today… she did an excellent job. This was my first time having Aubrey cut my hair and I decided to go for it. She was nice, friendly, and professional. She made suggestions and I went for it. I really love the cut! I would highly trimmed Aubrey.

Danielle is the only 5 star review I’ve ever given for a stylist at a salon. Booked me the same day, communicated with me EXTENSIVELY about the cut I wanted, gave me a finished product that we worked together towards. Told me if I change my mind about anything regarding the length to give her a call.
I have gone to just about every type of hair salon there is — extremely high-​end salons in the Los Angeles area to Gila Rut here in hillcrest.
This salon has a talented staff and a beautiful vision. I could not recommend it /​/​and Danielle /​/​enough. I mean it.

I just got the most expensive haircut of my life — but you know what? I left with the biggest smile I ever had leaving a salon after a cut and style. Aubree really listened to what I was looking for, and despite running our appointment so late in the evening (due to technical issues and scheduling), I never at all felt rushed and she made my hair look gorgeous. She used very minimal products to style my usually very fine and lifeless hair.
I went to Aubree after seeing some coworker’s hair fresh from the salon and I knew I wanted her to do mine — I didn’t care about the cost because I knew it was going to look amazing. I was right. Unfortunately, I’ll be leaving San Diego soon for my next assignment as a travel nurse. But I think I would probably fly back just to get my color done by Aubree as I’ve seen some of the work she’s done on other’s hair and she is very talented at what she does.
I really enjoyed my appointment and the salon’s atmosphere is really relaxing. I am recommending this place to any ladies in San Diego who want a good pampering done to their mane.
The only warning I have is parking may be a little tricky as only 3 cars can legally park on the street in front of the entrance — so you may need to park around the corner to avoid no parking zones. However, if you do mass transit for transportation, it is next to the trolley line (not sure if there’s a stop there though).

I’ve been going to Aubree for several years now. She’s the only hair stylist that always gets my color exactly right and cuts so well that my hair looks great all the way up until my next appointment. I can’t say enough positive things about her. She is so talented and passionate about her work and it shows!

I was referred to Aubree after about a year of going to an Aveda salon and struggling with the results. I love the Aveda products but my hair color and cut never came out the way I wanted… I kept asking for a carmel color but after one wash my hair would have a reddish/​copper tone to it. I told Aubree what I wanted and in just one session she fixed my color. I love it now — its exactly what I wanted! I can’t wait to go back in. Aubree is great and the salon is so beautiful and centrally located (parking was a breeze). Can’t wait for my touch up!

Aubree rescued my hair from terrible color jobs and haircuts — with her patience and excellent guidance I am now proud of my hair! I am so grateful for her talent and hard work.
She and all of the stylists at Huxley Salon are experts at their craft, and are wonderfully friendly and inviting as well. The salon is beautiful, clean and bright and open. I’m always a bit anxious when I walk into an unfamiliar salon with a new stylist. I haven’t had much luck in finding one person that I absolutely love and who has been my stylist for years. However, my annual birthday haircut has been with Janice from Huxley Salon (Formerly from Unite in Downtown).
The salon is a nice, clean and crisp establishment with plenty of room for visiting parties to sit in on a haircut.
If you need a cut and/​or color, the works, call and ask for Janice!
