Humphreys Half Moon Inn & Suites

Honestly, I was very disappointed with my experience. At first when we checked in, I was given a room with two queen beds when I had requested a king. The front desk was apologetic and gave me an upgraded room right away, which made me pretty happy. When I got inside of the junior suite, it was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom products are a low quality which was disappointing considering the price of the room, but that’s ok. I was pretty satisfied until I got a random call on the room phone at 3:00am (I was sleeping until a half hour earlier, I had gotten up to get ice and water). I ignored the call and was already annoyed, then I got a knock on the door from security. When I opened the door, the guard said not one word to me, he just rudely shushed me. Mind you, the call I received just minutes before was BY FAR louder than the voices of me and my suite mate. You better believe I will be speaking with a manager about this.

I am sharing my experience because I am disappointed on how a situation was handled during my stay. I was in from out of town for the weekend, stayed 2 nights in one of their premium rooms. I woke up Sunday morning with the whole right side of my wrist swollen, burning and itching. I had multiple bites on my wrist and the swelling only continued to move down my arm. It was obvious I had been bitten my something over night because I didn’t have them Friday or Saturday. I checked out at noon, after paying $ 450+ for 2 nights, I let the front desk woman know that they should check the rooms because I had been bitten by something and showed her my wrist. Her only response was «oh no! I’m so sorry.» I flew home that night thinking i might have to woke up the next day and go to the urgent care if the swelling continued. It took my arm 3 days to go back to normal. It would have been nice had she gotten a manager, taken my information, or assured me the rooms get sprayed for bugs. I would have expected a more professional way of handling the situation, considering I payed almost $ 500 for 2 nights, got bit by something that I had some sort of reaction to and wondered if I was going to have to go to the urgent care. I just want to make my experience is available and known to other guests and for the hotel management to make sure their staff is appropriately trained on how to handle situations with guests in a professional manner. I have no idea what bit me, what if this happens to someone else and their reaction is worse than mine or its a child. No one wants to have the experience that I had, I would not stay here again, I will take my business else where when I come to San Diego.

Loved the hotel but really have an issue with a 10.00 «resort» fee when they are in the middle of construction. Went to bed looking at yellow hazard tape and woke up to loud construction workers. So disappointed because it’s really located in a beautiful area. I guess that’s why they can make up any extra bogus charges when they feel like it. Oh, and park across the street and save $ 14.00

I was here for business, so really I was just looking for a quiet room with a comfortable bed and good temperature control. Humphreys was both more and less than what I needed. On the positive side, the bed was comfy, the wifi was good and did not cost extra, the staff were extremely pleasant, and it was pretty. On the negative side, there was a bit of noise from people outside my door at night, it didn’t really feel like a resort (not enough to justify $ 10 extra per night), on the first night my temperature control didn’t seem to have any effect, and there were two wadded up balls of paper in the corner of the room from when I checked in until I checked out 3 days later. Overall I had a good stay.

We have been staying here for the past 20 years on a regular basis. The Grand Marina Suite, which is about 1100 sq. ft. includes a dining room, living room, full kitchen, dressing area, double sink bathroom, and large bedroom with balcony, plenty of closet and storage space, and a double balcony overlooking the marina, and a small patio out front. The pool is wonderful, and there is a great little bar right next to it. There is a putting green and ping pong tables as well.
The on-​site bar and restaurant are lovely, and the Concerts By the Sea are fantastic! A small, intimate venue, with some great acts!
The beds and bedding are super comfortable, the staff is accommodating and polite and we love the tropical feel and the fact that it is away from Mission Bay and downtown, yet still close to everything!
I would highly recommend Humphrey’s as it is a gem just enough out of the way for a tranquil stay.

Awesome place to stay in San Diego. The location on the bay has a wonderful view and ocean breeze. Our room was very hot and the management gave us another larger room with a good breeze. All of the employees were wonderful and the location is isolated from busy traffic. We definitely plan on a return trip.

We were greeted promptly as entered the front door. The young man with a beard checked us in and we told him we were there to attend a party in Harbor View Room; which you would have thought that he would have attempted to put us in a room close to the party – he did not, room 146 Building E. We parked, got out our stuff, went to our room and attempted to use both keys to get in; neither gave the expected «green» light, but we turn the handle and walked in. It looked to be a nice room, I noticed a picture «missing» from the wall. My husband was concerned about the door and tried it again realizing it is unlocked all the time and not locked at all! My husband immediately went to the front desk, the bearded gentleman wanted to know if we wanted a maintenance man to look at, my husband asked for another room and requested that it we closer to our party; which we were given a room in Building B. When we checked in, the bearded fellow was proud to give us a Humphreys PASSPORT book full of over $ 200 in savings at the resort and on the back was a sticker with wifi access code. In looking thru the beautiful printed book of savings, each and everyone of them EXPIRED 10/​31/​2015 almost a month and half ago. Thanks a lot…
BTW: party in Harbor Room was fantastic!

Our first visit to Humphrey’s was so fabulous we’re planning our next visit. The entire staff was so pleasant and knowledgeable and the level of service exceeded our expectations. An example was room service delivery. Promised in 30 minutes, it arrived in 20!
Our accommodations were luxurious. A living room and fully outfitted kitchen (no oven), outdoor patio surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees, reachable from living room or bedroom, and a spacious bedroom with a melt-​into-​it bed. The view from our unit was myriads of sailboats, moored just yards away on the waterfront. Besides room service, we enjoyed Sunday champagne brunch in their restaurant. Wow, delicious, with lots of variety!
To balance this review, Humphrey’s Fitness Center does not live up to the excellence of the rest of the resort. The small, uninviting room has 4 machines and is tucked into a space that appears to have once been storage. But, Shelter Island offers excellent walking and Humphrey’s does have bicycles for island discovery. We are walkers so the Fitness Center did not impact us.
We had a magical week at Humphrey’s and can’t wait to return!

From check in to check out, this Hotel was great… Upgraded our room to one with a perfect view of the Marina… Room was clean with a comfy bed, clean sheets, ample towels… access to ice on the first floor… it was nice and quiet! .Took an Über to the gas lamp for dinner $ 12.00 and so easy… loved not having to deal with traffic… Restaurant for breakfast was lovely, bacon and eggs for me, bagel and locks for my hubby… All yummy and reasonable… Great coffee too! Can’t recommend this place
enough…The grounds are so nice! Koi pond, exotic birds, the marina. Plenty of places to walk to, really nice area… I will be back to enjoy a concert… xo

Don’t stay at this place. Front Desk People are so rude. The «luxury» suite is a joke. A couple of cotton balls does not make a luxury suite.
One good aspect. The bell hop service men are GREAT! They are so helpful, accommodating and kind! They are the only good thing — for the price!

We got a deal on groupon and i’m glad we stayed here. Our room was nice and clean. This place is right by the marina. Only thing i’m upset about was that the walls are pretty thin. We got back from a lounge around 3am and was getting ready for bed. Me and my friends was talking normal, then we get a call from the front desk telling us they are getting complaints of us being too loud! WHAT!!! We were so confused. We were told to keep it down and that the security confirmed that it was from our room. CRAZY! Besides that BS. Everything was good. We enjoyed our time poolside and we enjoyed our free 2 hour bike rides. Every night we were able to hear the music from the concerts held next door. If you want to be away from the party and young people then this is the place to stay.

Loved this hotel. We had a junior suite and it was really comfortable. The bed had fluffy pillows, cool, crisp sheets and a cozy comforter. The room was dark and cool which made it wonderful to sleep in. Our patio had a tropical feel with lots of plants and a couple of big beautiful parrots.
All of the staff that we encountered were very courteous and helpful. We needed a late checkout and got it with no problem. It seemed that everything we asked for, we got. The front desk, bellman and even the cleaning staff were extremely helpful. The only thing I would change would be a toilet that flushed well and a shower with more water pressure.
I want to come back to Shelter Island again, especially to stay at The Humphreys Half Moon Inn and suites. It was an amazing experience.

Outside of the concierge /​guest services either being busy or out right unreachable my experience with the restaurant /​room services and housekeepers was incredible.

One Word… AWESOME!
My Husband, two small kids and I stayed from Sept 10−13^th, and every bit of it was perfect. Check in was easy! We got to the hotel early as we drove in from Las Vegas and they were really accommodating allowing us to check in early. This worked out great as a five hour drive with a toddler and infant can be a «tiring task.»
We stayed in a 2 queen room right in front of the pool. It was a wonderful view! It was on the first floor so the balcony led right out to the pool. At night the view was quite romantic, however, we never encountered too much noise. We had breakfast everyday on the balcony as it was such a great view.
I used the fitness center 2 days. It is nothing spectacular, however the machines are newer high tech with nice features and the view from the fitness center is breathtaking. I also checked out the bikes from the bell desk and took a ride down shelter island to buy muffins from a close by shop! We used the pool and hot tub daily! Sooo relaxing… they even have ping pong and putt putt golf. Made for great morning activities with the family.
The room was pretty standard. It was a lot more spacious than what I was expecting. I enjoyed the drawer space and closet space. Made organizing clothes for 4 people really easy. I was not a big fan of the bed being so close to the window/​patio as it was hard to get in and out from that side, however, the shutters make lighting great. That bathroom was small but efficient, and I liked having the side storage for food near the fridge.
The Hotel is big on energy saving which I think was fantastic. Efficient lighting everywhere. The grounds are beautiful. Really felt tropical. Coy fish ponds, big tropical birds hanging around, tiki carvings, all fun to look at. The staff was alway nice and polite.
I did not get a chance to eat at the restaurant, however, we made a trip in pajamas to get some coffee, as the coffee in the room is really bland. The doorman and hostesses were really polite and gave us complimentary coffee and didn’t shy us away despite our attire! Great guest service! Also order room service one night and I waited until the last minute and they still took my order and had it out right away! Awesome !
I can’t imagine this hotel making my trip any better! I’m already trying to figure out how I can get back down there! I really appreciate the great service and clean room I experienced during my stay! Check out was quick and easy. Easy like a Sunday Morning!

We always decide to stay the night when we see a concert here. The view is just too sweet! We were here in August to see Chris Isaak (my moms favorite) and we happened to run into him on our way to the pool area! You can’t beat the weather here. Our room was beautiful, equipped with a full kitchen, dining area, living area, vanity, and plenty of closet space if you plan on staying more than a few nights. Our balcony looked out to the boat docks, and was so tranquil in the mornings drinking coffee and enjoying the beautiful view.

There comes a time when destination hotel/​concert venues need to go to the great plastic surgeons of remodels. Sadly, Humphreys is an old lady in sad need. $ 260 a night plus taxes for a sad 1970s room complete with cheap soaps that smell like pine sol and sheets that had completely exfoliated us by morning — they were so rough and cheap. Add to this the dank smell in our room and you’ve got the makings of a Motel 6. The reason behind the 2 stars we did give it was for the great pool bartender with mixology down to an art form. Although we’re paid up for the whole weekend– we have decided to not spend our second night exfoliating.

Cute Polynesian themed hotel on Shelter Island. Being that this was my first time in San Diego I didn’t have any expectations. This place was wonderful. Check in was a breeze and the guests rooms were small but well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the standard amenities. There were bars and restaurants within walking distance. Very pleasant stay!

Place is dated, staff was not very accommodating and REALLY DISAPPOINTED with our over all experience for our stay from 08÷26−08÷29. First room (124) we had apparently had a plumbing problem and there was waste backed up in the bathroom sink which spilled over to the counter and in the bathtub. Then given another room even further away from the concert venue when we were told at booking the rooms were surrounding the stage area…
The clerk at the front desk (Celina) had a I don’t give a dam attitude, she asked to take my phone to show her manager the photos I had taken in order to request a different room. I’ve posted them to Unilocal for your review. The manager (Dawn) came out later and never even acknowledged the problem or apologized for the inconvenience.
We purchased a room, concert and dinner package. Paid $ 749.00 for two tickets. The room was crappy, the restaurant food was crappy and the seats were fantastic but too much money for the accommodations.
This place is literally ripping rope off blindly and we wouldn’t recommend or refer to anyone!

Amazing hotel. Plenty of space for two people with a great view of the ocean from our balcony. Mini Refrigerator and microwave for storing food and heating up leftovers. Room service was good when we ordered something later on at night. We got dessert within a few minutes. The bed is comfortable, restaurant/​bar area downstairs which is very conveniant if you don’t want to hit up a night on the town, and is very spacious for large functions/​groups. They have a community pool here, although we didn’t go. If you walk around you can see what looks like a garden area, and fishes swimming in a pond. So many trees and pretty flowers. Atmosphere is lovely.

Planned a weekend in San Diego with my girlfriend, from LA — bought the tropical room through
for about $ 280 after all the fees. It was a nice room, small but perfect size for just the two of us. Large slider door with wooden blinds to control lighting, we had a nice view of the pool which glowed and provided romantic lighting later at night.
The hotel was located on Shelter Island which has an array of small shops, hotels, and lots of fishing related business (marinas, tackle shops, boat stuff). We checked in early and headed to Mission Bay beaches for the day. We got back from the beach and showered — which lacked good pressure but whatever. Pretty clean and looked to have been recently renovated. We went to dinner on Coranado Island which was about 25 minutes away driving through beautiful downtown San Diego and crossed the bridge right at sunset. Amazing.
Overall I would recommend the place. It was again a little pricey but it reminded me of Hawaii and had a very clean tropical feel. Check in was early and check out is 12PM. If I see a good deal online, I would stay again
