Apparently this park came a long way from the old days in the ’70’s and ’80’s where there were underground restrooms where you could go buy crack, heroin, have sex, AND get stabbed… ALL in one trip! I really love this park but I find it deplorable that the city refuses to maintain it. The pretty landmark fountain has been fenced off for years(going on 3 or 4 now). Transients can legally set up shop here because its a public space. The small gardens are nice but not very maintained. Its becoming an eye sore in front of horton plaza. This park has historical significance as it has been a park since SD was booming at the turn-of-the-century. It used to extend across the street to the US Grant hotel before broadway cut through it. It WAS pretty. Just watch out for panhandlers and druggies.

As far as the commonality of the transient-in-san-diego goes, I didnt much like San Diego, but I’m glad it was rainy and cold, or I worry there would have been more people laying around in their home-less gear…
