History
Established in 1985.
Halstrom was founded by Dr. Karen Bishop, a teacher who saw the need for an alternative to growing class sizes in public schools. She developed 1:1 individualized instruction with a quality curriculum to help all types of students (athletes, actors, ADHD, social anxiety) excel inside and outside of the classroom. Halstrom was previously named Futures High School. In 2013, a number of middle school students have found value in one-to-one instruction and flexible scheduling options, therefore Halstrom High School has changed its name to Halstrom Academy (effective Fall 2013). Over 16,000 students have graduated or participated in a Halstrom program since 1985. Notable alumni include Blake Lively (actress), Sasha Cohen (Olympic skater), Ryan Scheckler (Pro skateboarder and MTV reality star), Andy Zhang (youngest golfer to participate in the US Open) and many more. Students have gone onto attend UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Stanford, NYU, Penn State and London School of Business.
