Grace Point Church

Sought this church because it was close and seemed OK. Arrived 10 minutes before service and the parking lot was almost empty. The worship team started late and was just awful. The people started dragging in the next 15 minutes, many carrying coffee and even breakfast. Huh? Is that how you come to worship God?
Gratefully, the band finished and the sermon started. It was «nice» if unchallenging. Ironically, it was Palm Sunday and there was NEVER a mention of its significance. The sermon was about the Good Samaritan … Huh? One of the most pivotal, prophetic days in the life of Jesus and it got ignored.
Honestly, there is no deeply felt spirit of God in this church. Lazy, unfocused, superficial, and ultimately empty. Perfect place to «play church» but not a place where you will be lifted up to a closer relationship with Jesus.
Better to stay home and watch David Jeremiah or listen to Miles McPherson on the radio.

Although I do not attend this Church I do send my son to camp here every summer. They have a great program. First in July comes VBS and this year it was themed «weird animals» the church was decorated with bright colors and animals hanging everywhere. It was so cool. The counselors were awesome! Sweet boys and playful but caring. My son had a blast, even more than last years. He loved his counselors too!
He is also attending their Sports Camp week. You can choose basketball or soccer or cheer for girls. They group them up with two counselors and have fun for a few hours. The only bummer about this camp is it is too short. 9 – 12. I wish they went all day. They are great about email reminders, paperwork online and keeping you abreast of the info you need before camp starts. I will continue to have him involved in their camps. A fav for sure.

I’ve been going to this church for a month now. Love the morning service, not pressured to mingle or tithe or anything else. Pastor Bob’s sermons are great, somehow he can always relate our problems & issues to bible stories. Is probably more for people who wants to go to church to spend their own quiet time worship God.

I look forward to Sunday mornings at Grace Point every week. What better statement could be made about a church? The music is wonderful, and the community is exceptionally welcoming.

This is a great church for those not comfortable with typical formalities of mainstream churches. Pastor Bob is laidback and uses real life illustrations to tie into the bible. the congregation is warm and friendly. They have Sunday School for all ages infant thru high school.
One drawback is if you are looking for a place to have a personal connection with the pastor, this is the wrong place. Bob is not the type to get to know the congregation on an individual basis. You are encouraged to join what they call «small groups» to connect on an individual basis, and ultimately find someone to mentor you if that is what you are looking for. If this doesn’t work for you, I encourage you to find a smaller church where the pastor does know his congregation.
I have a friend who left the church after more than 10 years, because it really bothered her that after more than 10 years of attending church, Bob didn’t know who she was. This was made even worse by the fact that she was a regular volunteer, and Bob never made an effort to get to know her name, or even acknowledge her hours of volunteering.

i don’t go to church… my daughter’s girl scout troop had an event here. the place is nice. i wish my school looked as good as the classrooms in this church.

I first visited this church (years ago) when it was known as Canyon Hills Church. I was a regular at The Rock for some years but wanted to find a church closer to home and w/​a smaller congregation.
Grace Point Church really is a wonderful place. Pastor Bob is a laid back guy with a gift to preach great sermons. There’s always lots of laughter and thoughtfulness during his sermons.
It’s quite easy to come if you’re alone (as I’ve done many times). No one pressures you to fill out anything, or to tithe, or to really ‘mingle’. They welcome you and let you do what you feel comfortable which I really appreciated when I first visited.
A few great things about this church:
1. Their women’s bible study is awesome. A great way to meet your fellow church mates and to learn more about the bible. .
2. You are required to take a Core Class 101 to become a member of the church. I really liked this b/​c it gives you a chance to meet all the other new ppl who have a genuine desire to become part of the church. Pastor Bob personally teaches this class.
3. Tithing. They don’t pass around satchels for you to drop in your tithe. You simply drop off the tithe in one of the sealed column containers after the sermon.
I have a feeling that this will be church I grow with and I’m happy to say that actually. My previous church felt huge and daunting. Here, especially w/​the help of the women’s bible studies, I feel at ‘home’ and at ease which is what I think is fundamental in finding the ‘right’ church

I’ve been attending this church for a while now. Great place. Really love the feel, the grounds, the teaching, the worship. It’s just really refreshing. I guess what isn’t refreshing if I have to complain is that it’s in Carmel Valley. This is a community that most people can live without God in. By that, I mean many people in the community aren’t forced to live by faith because they’ve been blessed with so much monetary/​material gain. Whatever… on with the review!
The Sunday school is wonderful in a light/​bright room with plenty of room for the kids to stretch out and play indoors on the really hot or rainy days. They also have an awesome jr. high and high school room with panoramic views of the fairbanks ranch community.
I can’t rave about the worship leader enough. Steven Ybarra is such a talented individual and always has a talented crew of musicians on tap each week. Yet the worship never becomes overblown beyond intimate. It’s always kept «on the level» so that you never feel as though you’re watching a production. rather, you feel blessed to have walked into a church with such great music.
The teaching is wonderful. Pastor Bob is really down to earth and speaks in a way that is easy to understand. He doesn’t sugarcoat the mesg, neither is he heavy handed in his delivery.
This church is just the right size and is a refreshing way to start your sunday. I won’t mention names but it’s my opinion that many Carmel Valley residents attend a certain church in Fairbanks Ranch that is a good bit larger as a means to network/​meet a rich man. That being said, I’m sure there are plenty of people who attend that church whose motives are pure. It’s just that I’ve heard it before from several people and overheard multiple conversations about «that other place.» ;-)
Anyway, you can’t go wrong with this place. As a christian, I want to give every church 5 stars. As a fair Unilocal reviewer, I give it 4 for feeling like in this church your perception of the world is like seeing through rose colored glasses. Won’t see any homeless or rough neighborhoods in and around the area. What can I say? We’re priveleged and blessed by God to live in such a great community.
