Their hot sauce is very unique and goes extremely well with their carne asada fries. My boyfriend took me here so I could try it for myself and I’m glad I did. It’s obviously family owned and staffed but they’re all very nice(:

GONZALO’S MEXICANFOOD is my favorite Mexican place to eat at in Paradise Hills, San Diego area. The food is Greattt. My favorites are the Bean & Rice Burritos and Beef Tacos. Service is always Excellent, too…

After reading the reviews, a friend and I thought«hey, why not go try Gonzalo’s out?» So, we did… What a disappointment. We came in in the early afternoon and there was no wait. Score, right? Wrong. The lady at the counter was talking to her bff for a good ten minutes while we are standing in front of her ready for our order to be placed. She finally takes our order, almost as if she resented us being there. We order to California burritos and carne asada fries. I go to pay with a card and find out they only take cash. No biggie, just maybe post it somewhere other than a little sticky note at the counter? We get our food quickly and to our dismay our food was soggy. It was worth a try, I guess. One try was enough.

Loved the food at this place. We were willing to work with their cash only policy until one day we got home with our food and a roach crawled out of the bag.

Gonzalo’s makes a pretty good ‘Surf & Turf’ burrito. I say this because the last time I had one(at a taco shop up north) the burrito kinda fell apart and had way too many beans inside. The«Surf & Turf’ at Gonzalo’s had lots of meat and lots of shrimp and the right amount of salt to make the flavors work well together. That being said, my only gripe was I get only a half hour lunch break and the burrito took a little long to make. Other than that, the people are friendly, the burrito was good, and I made it back on time to work(with 3 minutes to spare.) 4 Stars

Pretty good here. We felt like tacos but there isn’t really a rubios too close. Looked on Unilocal and this one was right up the hill but I never tried it. Place needs some love and attention. U can tell they’re hurting from tough times. I wanted to put this review because this place is in a neighborhood not in a main shopping center so u won’t know about it unless u live there. I had two fish tacos 1.50 each. They were huge pieces of fish well fried with a good tango mayo/sour cream type sauce. One would have filled me up just fine. My bf had four tacos pastor and a fish taco. He looked like three months pregnant by the time we left. We were very pleased and happy to find this place! Will be back for more fish tacos! Give this place a try!

I’ve only been here once but I was impressed. The interior reminds me of the little taco shops in Mexico. Large inside with bare walls, several hand written signs and a large framed poster of Cotija, Michoacan(where I guess the family that runs it is from) in the center. I ordered a shrimp quesadilla that was delicious. I liked it more than Cotijas, which is where I usually order this. They have a very extensive menu, that with the exception of the mandatory San Diego Cali burrito and carne asada fries, is 100% authentic. I’m dying to try the tortas and fish tacos

Not the best place but no where near the worst. I ate there today and was surprised to see what appeared to be a 12 year old child taking my order. So I guess its family owned. I had the fish tacos, which were pretty good. I also had the chimichanga which was ok. Last but not least I had the chicken burrito, it was decent. I am a native of LA, and we have this place called King Taco. If you know anything about King Taco, you know good Mexican food. I’ll give it another chance. My experience with Mexican food in San Diego has not been the best. The best Mexican food is L.A. and the I.E.

This place is cool, and the«half order» of carne asada chips/or fries is just as big portion as other taco shops regular size order. The beef, fish, and chicken tacos for 99 cents are bomb, family owned and operated. fish taco combo with rice and beans, simply 2.99 $. This taco shop is affordable and tasty. The only thang is the homeless, mentally ill, drunks begging for change when you walk in and out due to the liquor store right across the parking lot, this taco shop is directly across the street from the«PARADISEHILLSPOSTOFFICE.» Try the menudo, and the hand-made horchata and jamaica DRINKS of Aquas frescas… for cheap!

The .99 fish tacos are huge and delicious. Not sure how they can afford to offer them so cheap but we take advantage of them daily when we are visiting from out of town. The exterior might throw some people off, but be adventurous and go for it. They are awesome and you can get stuffed for $ 2.

Other than lolitas, this is probably the only place I would get my carne asada fries! It’s location may seem a little«ghetto» but trust me theres nothing ghetto about this place. it just seems ghetto aha but I’ve never had any problems coming here so don’t worry when you first arrive! The wait is never long, they have your food out in an instant you can even call in order and right when you get there it will be ready for you. It seems like a family run business because whenever I come here it is always the same people working. They have two sizes for their carne asada fries, a half and a full, a half is more than enough and it is only 5 something but if you’d like just add a couple bucks more for a full size! The carne asada fries includes a vast amount of avocado and cheese, I like to keep the lid close till I get home to eat it so right when i open it the cheese has melted everywhere! My other favorite is also their carne asada taquitos, which is basically a «tj taco», its soo yummy too! You can pick two sizes, three or five, but each will come with an extra tortilla wrap so the three will have six and the five will have ten. I’ve also tried their burritos and all were very tasty as well! oh yeah they only accept cash so bring cash but if you forget theres an atm machine inside if you don’t mind the fees!

Taco’s, taco’s, taco’s! This little joint rocks the taco! I have yet to try anything else, because the dollar tacos are all that and I am not talking small street tacos these suckers are regular size deliciousness! I was a bit thrown off by the exterior, but that quickly goes away when you are swept in by the aroma that reminds you of real home cooked Mexican food. I remind you not to judge this book by its cover… go in and be totally satisfied!
