I am always hesitant about trying out a new hairstylist but I could no longer do a 40 min commute to see my old stylist. I have to say that it was the best decision I made!!! I asked Jessica for a haircut to add layers. She asked questions to clarify the kind of layers that I wanted to make sure we were on the same page– really appreciated that. And also added her own recommendations. My hair looks better than I could imagine. Found myself a new hairstylist. And she is minutes from my home. Super excited!!!

Five hours to get my roots colored and 7 highlights. Also had my outfit ruined by drops of bleach. And, it was expensive.
This salon over sold and under served. I am so dissapointed. I even sent an email and never heard back from anyone. If you want just the basics, you can’t even get that.
$ 200+ dollars down the drain, and not even an apology.

Hands down this is the best salon in San Diego. Always friendly, always clean, everyone is always so welcoming and truly genuine. I’m so excited to have found such an amazing place. And Kaylin is amazing, Not only do I get to have a great experience, I get to leave looking and feeling so gorgeous. She gets my hair and my personality and really pulls that together to create a cut that works for me and my hair. I get so many compliments. Thank you Kaylin!

I’ve been going to Gloss salon for almost 4 years now. I really like going there, I see Stephanie, she is a sweetheart. I highly recommend!

Debbie is a wonderful stylist and colorist. I always feel so great after I see her. Highly recommend!

I showed Kaylin an area on my back which is the shortest I was willing to have my hair cut. After cutting the first section (by my nape), she asked me if the length was all right. It was above the area I showed her so I told her that it was too short. She took that into consideration, but I think she shouldn’t have asked my opinion after already cutting because I went home with an uneven haircut. It wasn’t that noticeable because my hair mostly falls forward, but when I showed relatives and friends my hair brushed back, they cringed.

Love the haircuts– when they pick up the phone! I’ve called about ten times over the past week to get an appointment. I started to wonder if they’ve closed the store!

So I’m giving this place a 2 star rating because

even though their service is decent (I got a haircut and it was good) they never pick up their phone. I have called so many times and even left a VM, but they didn’t call back and neither did they pick up. All I ever get is a message saying that ‘leave a message and we will call back’.
Never did received a call back…

I recently pulled my shoulder muscles and I needed to have my hair shampooed because I couldn’t do it myself. When I asked the receptionist how much it would cost to just get it shampooed. She said $ 35. Not a blow dry, just shampoo. If I wanted to pay $ 35 I would have gone across the lot to Blow Bunny dry bar and had them do my hair… Come on guys.
It really really put me off.
I could even understand if the salon was located In The middle of Manhattan and it was busy foot traffic all the time, so in order to make up for the lost money and time for a hairdresser to shampoo my hair she would need to charge more. but the location is in the middle of the suburbs and it was a Tuesday afternoon. They weren’t busy so why $ 35?

I did return to correct the color I was not happy with. First, I was very impressed with the owner, Jan, and her willingness to spend time talking to me. I think she made a big difference for me in how I perceive their desire to make customers happy. She assigned me to a master stylist who was wonderful. She talked to me at length about the type of hair I have and what will work for what I want. She even stayed after the salon closed. I’m happy with my color now and would recommend Diana to anybody who needs a good stylist who is funny and will take the time to really listen to what you want and what is achievable.

I have been going to Gloss for almost 2 years now. Kaylin is an amazing stylist! What I love is that they are one of those salons that gets it right every time, and I always leave loving my hair! The atmosphere is so nice and relaxing, I trust them so much I have even hired the girls to do my wedding! You will not be disappointed after your appointment ;)

I have very high maintenance hair — course, medium curly, beyond thick, and dry. It’s hard for me to find a stylist that ‘get’s it’, but I finally did — Diana. She is my patron saint of hair and is absolutely wonderful. What I loved best about our first encounter was that I came in with some photos of a new style I wanted and she was tactical with her words and then, as I was looking for a more blunt, honest answer, she told me simply that my hair was never going to do that (as in, what was in the picture). She explained the nature of my hair and accurately described the struggles I was probably having, which were spot on. It was like she was my hair psychic and new exactly what it was capable of, but also how we could work to improve it. These steps actually worked too! I’ve never had a hairdresser help so much and my hair has been something I’ve struggled with for decades. Since then, I’ve tried a drastically different cut (a pixie) and it has turned out AMAZING! She asked me the tough questions before we did it like how long have I wanted to do it (to rule out impulsivity), have I ever had it this short before, etc. and after a great conversation, we proceeded and I LOVE it. She is also so fun to talk to and I truly look forward to my appointments. As for the salon itself, it’s very fresh and modern and the receptionist is always friendly and helpful. They offer tea as well, which I especially enjoy :) Thank you Diana and thank you Gloss!

I have found my salon and my stylist! Stephanie was terrific. She really listened to my needs and it came out exactly how I wanted. Very affordable compared to other salons in the area.

Let me explain my 1 star review for Gloss Salon in 4s. This is for the «I don’t know» that I have received from them in regards to a stylist no longer there. A stylist I have been going to since June 2012 who I have sent plenty business to, and is the most mentioned Stylist for this salon here on Unilocal.If I was reviewing her, this would be 5 stars — not 1 — but this is for the salon.
I called to get a cut from Whitney… and with attitude, a receptionist said she doesn’t work there anymore and quickly offered to book me with someone else. Of course I said no and politely ask, «Do you know where she went?» «No, I don’t. Would you like me to book you with someone else?» «No,» I said again. She was saying something but i was at a total loss to listen and I just clicked off my phone because…
Maybe you really don’t know where she went or you can’t tell me where she went, and I get that. I was a receptionist to many salons in a 7-​year period. Stylists come and go and get fired. I know how this game goes. It is lame but that is the industry’s going protocol in attempt to keep business.
I called the next day asking for Whitney again — crazy, i know. Yes, it was real… she no longer works there. I uppity ask, «Do you happen to know her last name?» and receptionist says she doesn’t know her last name WITH attitude. Really?!! You’ve booked my appointments so many times since I have been seeing her, you’ve been there awhile, I know your voice and you don’t know her last name? I would have much respected the salon if she said, «We can’t give you that information» out of privacy or because of her boss or whatever. But not know her last name?!! As Maury would say, «That is a lie.»
Whitney is featured in 12 of the Unilocal reviews in here for the Salon — all are 5 stars except for 2 (one is 4 stars and one is a 1 star). Her leaving… I think this will have an effect on business and the way they are handling it… sigh…
Whitney since 2012… I have been stopped and asked who cuts my hair in 2 years more than all my decades of years alive.
I am definitely not going back to Gloss. Maybe if they gave me a better lie to begin with I would. It is such a pretty salon too and pretty sure the other girls are great but this just sucks. I never asked for her info because I know that was against the rules. Walk ins (I was a walk-​in and not an existing client) is considered the salon’s business. The other girls have great reviews so they may be great for you. A stylist is mentioned 9 times and another 6 times (Whitney, 12).
I will have to be on a search again for a «Whitney» if I do not find her… cuts real well. knows Asian hair, uses thinning shears and blades like a pro… sigh… When I would call for her she would be booked out a week or 2 in advance despite working most days of the week, because she is that good.
I hope Whitney left with them on good terms, she really is a doll. And if she did, why the attitude? I heart her. I just thought that Gloss Salon would be nicer and above «that» ‘I don’t know’ stuff.
If anyone knows where she is, please let me know. I would truly love u for it!

I needed a major haircut that would chop at least 10 inches from my very long hair. Stephanie was my stylist, and she’s one of the sweetest, patient, graceful stylists I’ve had. She listened to my requests and was upbeat and positive.
She spent time on cleaning my hair gently and did a great job on a drastic hair cut. The haircut was great and I still get compliments to this day.
Only tip I would have is to book early (weeks in advance) and earlier time. I had the last appointment and had to wait 10 minutes after my appointment as Stephanie was finishing up with another client. I showed up 5 mins earlier for my appointment, and in total waited 15 mins. 15 mins is a very long wait in that tiny environment.
They do serve tea or water while you wait. Would be great to be served a glass of wine, as some other establishments do, as we’re paying for an expensive (though highly worth it) haircut.

Whitney is truly the best stylist/​colorist I’ve been to! Every time I walk out of Gloss after a cut or highlights — I am so happy and relieved to have found someone I trust so much to take me from brunette to blonde.
She is also very thorough, affordable and a joy to be around. Thank you, Whitney!!!

I’ve been coming here for over 3 years, I started with Renee (who is no longer here, due moving out of state), had Stephanie a few times, and most recently Kaylin & Debbie; depending who has an opening on my available day, either way you can’t go wrong & I never worry because every stylist I’ve ever had is great. Sad to think i will be moving next month & i won’t be across the parking lot from this amazing salon anymore.
The owner is always around & she is so chic, as is the rest of the staff there, down to the receptionist at front desk.
As many others have reviewed they do not push product on their customers & are all very knowledgeable. Great place, vibe & talented staff.

This place is way more affordable than I thought. I was pleasantly surprised!
Whitney was very helpful and showed me many other ways to style my hair. She was patient and answered all my questions. The experience was very pleasurable and she made cutting my hair shorter feel much safer.
The salon itself was clean and very modern and within walking distance from my house. Will be going back again!

I was on the search for a new salon last month and based on the reviews, I decided to check out Gloss Salon. I’ve driven by the salon plenty of times and always remembered thinking to myself «what a nice looking salon.» I had my hair cut by Kaelyn and she did a wonderful job! Not to mention, she was extremely sweet and personable too. The salon was clean, modern, and welcoming… in this case, less is more.
I totally recommend this place, it’s worth every penny. I’m so happy I found a salon that I will be a regular at :) I’m already counting down the weeks til I’ll be back for a trim, haha!

I’ve never written a review on Unilocal before, but I received such amazing service at Gloss from Whitney that I decided to do my first and recommend her to everyone :) She’s a total sweetheart, did an excellent job coloring my hair from blonde to a light copper, and gave me a great haircut as well. Attending my last semester of college I wanted to go back with a fresh new look, and Whitney gave me even better than I could’ve asked for. She even dyed my eyebrows to match my hair color so it’d look more natural. When I wasn’t sure if I wanted them lightened too, she offered for me to think about it for a night and come back the next day to get them redone for free if I still wasn’t completely satisfied. If that’s not excellent customer service then I don’t know what is! I will definitely see her again for my hair next time I’m in town. Thanks Whitney!!!
PS oh yea, she IS very down to earth too ;) GO SEE HER!

Love love love! I’m getting married in 3 days and it’s fair to say that waiting to find a new salon last minute was scary but Kaelyn was amazing! I couldn’t be happier with my color and cut. Since my hair has been dyed so much the roots didn’t pull as dark as the rest, but she took the time to go back and make it perfect for me. I will 100% be a regular now
