Prices are bad and portion is small. Customer service is bad. I would recommend going to Spicy City for a better meal.

This was a fun meal! We got some spicy ass dry pot and fish soup. Man, I had never had Chinese peppercorn until I had the beef dry pot from this place. It was damn good, but those peppercorns numb your mouth and make you salivate a little too much, haha!
Beef dry pot — super flavorful, tender and very spicy. It came with lots of veggies, potatoes and fresh herbs. It was a rainy day so it was perfect. Delicious!
Fish soup — I thought I was going to hate this but it was actually very good. It looks like lava but tastes like heaven. Good with rice.
Wonton appetizer — no Bueno! Too many Chinese peppercorns that numbed my mouth. Very strange!
Will I come back? Absolutely, for the dry pot and fish soup.

I guess we never had real Sichuan food… Cause we sure were shocked when that Chinese peppercorn (aka Chinese coriander) hit our tongues.
The wonton in chili oil had a heavy ass dose of the Chinese peppercorn. It numbed and made our tongue tingle then salivate. We were in shocked in didn’t know what the f happened. Then googled it and saw that that was the job of those little suckers. Because we also had the fish fillet in spicy sauce chili oil. And same thing it not as strong as the wontons. The sizzling beef pot as well. Wontons waaaaay too much… Skip it.
The best thing is the fish fillet in spicy sauce. It had some Napa cabbage on the bottom and it wasn’t too spicy and had a ton of flavor. The wonton in chili oil was so bland. The wonton itself barely had any meat inside and eve with the chili oil tasted like nothing and only gave you that lemony numb tongue. The sizzling beef pot was great! Had a lot of that Chinese peppercorn too.
We love Sichuan food. Not sure how authentic this is but we felt it was since it was spicy and everyone was actually Chinese. The service wasn’t great but wasn’t expected to be good. We’ll be back for some sizzling dry pot and the fish fillet and other items as they looked really good from the other table.

Ordered to go, to eat with my mom while visiting her. Ordered the eggplant, but not spicy. I also ordered the steamed fish with soft tofu, not spicy. The eggplant tastes better when it has a little kick, but mom can’t handle the spice. The steamed fish with soft tofu was a nice soup, very tasty ginger flavor based broth. The food is consistently good here.

Really really really bad. Terrible food, terrible service. They couldn’t even bring us rice. Stay away.

I AM a narrow minded bigot when it comes to food. I would never have chosen this restaurant on my own. My kids drug me here under protest. However, I’m glad I conceded and went inside. The restaurant was clean, well staffed and we were seated immediately. The kids did the ordering, we got a beef dish of some kind that was delicious I could not have been more pleased with it. We also got a noodle dish with chicken, again I was very pleased. An embarrassment to all I’m sure I asked for a fork to eat with. Our waitress was a good sport and laughed with us when she brought the requested utensil. The service was excellent the food was great what more could an old guy want. I tipped them well and thanked them for the great food and service on the way out.

I like the food here and come here a lot but giving 4 stars only because they’re not super consistent. Sometimes the Dan Dan Noodles tastes very peanuty and not spicy enough, sometimes it’s just flavored with chili oil and other times it tastes more like the spicy water boiled fish spicy sauce.
Their tofu dry pot is amazing! Try that one out for sure.

Dining in at lunchtime was a fair experience. Probably worthy of 3 or 4 stars in itself. Not a knock-​your-​socks-​off kind of meal, but on par with most of the other 182 Chinese restaurants within a 1 mile radius.
But it was the take-​out experience that got to me. I used the restaurant’s website, which had a link to order online. That went through a portal for an app called Beyond Menu. The ordering part went okay, and I entered by credit card info to pay in advance.
Shortly after placing my order, I got a call from the restaurant, saying that they’d gotten a notification but didn’t know what the order was. So I repeated the order that I’d placed. When they read it back to me, I tried to correct an item, but they’d hung up before I could correct them. I called them back. They had no idea what I was talking about.
So I crossed my fingers and went over to pick up the food. Turns out that yes, they’d gotten the order wrong, and prepared the wrong dish. They went back and made the correct dish, while I sat there and waited. Then, when I got my food, they told me I hadn’t paid yet. Wait, what was all that stuff on the Beyond Menu app for, where they got my credit card and CVV code? Why did I even need to enter that if they weren’t going to charge me? I’ll definitely be watching for second charges on my card in the next few days…
When I got the food back to my workplace and I went to eat, the first thing I was greeted with was a smushed mosquito on the lid of the rice box. There goes most of my appetite.
The General Tso’s Chicken was the same tasty meal that I’d had when dining in the restaurant. At least that part is consistent.
The potstickers were… disappointing. The flavor was lacking, and the soy dipping sauce they came with was more vinegar than anything else. Pretty foul stuff.
I might try take-​out again, but I won’t be using the web ordering, nor will I be straying from the standard entrée options.

I was craving for some authentic Chongqing style noodle, so I decided to to try it at this place after searching online.
I Came here around 8:20pm on Sunday, not too busy. So I got seated immediately, the waitress is very friendly. I ordered the spicy and sour noodle and one plate of dumplings. After less than 10 mins, I got my food. When I first saw my noodle, I felt very disappointed by its look. I can only see very dark greasy covered with some cilantro. I know I should not judge food only by its looks, so I tried it immediately, meh, they forgot to put salt in it; then I waved the waitress to bring me some salt. After I put the salt in, I can tell the flavor of garlic, spicy, sting Sichuan pepper; i will say it tastes ok if it was not that oily. But no matter how many spoons of oil I took out, I still can not eat it normally, I gave up after couple of bites.
The dumplings are okay, I was glad I ordered it as a backup; which turned out I made a good assumption that if the noodle is not good at least I can eat dumplings.
The owners came out and asked me if I like my food, I told them It is too oily. I guess they can tell from my food so they offered to change it for me. It was nice for them to say that, but I said it is ok.
Overall, I don’t like my food here this time maybe I will give it a try next time for some other food, but the service is good so I give it 3 star.

I’m not sure why more San Diego foodie types haven’t discovered FuAn Garden on Convoy. It’s the best Chinese food I’ve had in San Diego — and really good by any measure. All of your spicy Sichuan cravings will be satisfied, and there are plenty of choices if you’re not into the hot stuff. This is authentic, tasty eats (I’ve been traveling to China for 35 years and I’ve had my share). The cold dishes are excellent. You’ll find things like fried spicy smelt with roe inside and the classics like Yuexiang eggplant. I’d expected a «Kungpao Tofu» to be pretty bland — it was delicious. Tonight I had a «lamb with preserved pickled chili» that was just excellent.
I’ve eaten here about a half-​dozen times now, and every time I do I wonder any I don’t go more often. They’ve even added Stone IPA on their minimal beer list (though they seem to run out of it a lot). A winner.

We recently visited for a quick lunch. The interior is clean and nicely lit. We could feel an agreeable flow of air conditioning. It wasn’t all that busy that Friday afternoon.
I felt a bit bad as they didn’t have lunch specials that Friday (friend was treating for lunch). They only had these Daily Specials that offered only ONE discounted item for that particularly day (Friday). Lucky for me as the ‘Boiling Fish’ was the one item I was looking forward to trying here at FuAn Garden. So we were lucky that it was marked down to $ 7.99 from $ 12.99.

COLD APPETIZERS
We had the seaweed, cucumbers, and beef/​tendon (aka husband & wife or fuqi feipian). The seaweed tasted fine with nice bits of garlic; cucumbers were crispy and crunchy; and the beef/​tendon tasted nicely spicy and chewy. It was a generous portion.
BOILED FISH $ 7.99 (FRIDAYS)
Oh my this was a HUGE bowl of spicy boiled fish. My tastebuds could *FEEL* that they were in for a fiery adventure with this dish. The nice big chunks of fish filet tasted wonderfully tender and almost melt in your mouth good. This was by far the most generous portion of spicy boiled fish that I’ve ever had for lunch. The Chinese cabbage were nicely soft but remained a bit crisp as I don’t think they cook the cabbage all the way through.
HOUSE SPECIAL SPICY PORK $ 12.99
I guess what we should have been told is that the ribs were deep fried (in honesty, I think I *kinda* knew but wasn’t really sure). The spareribs were battered quite heavily. I’m pretty sure there was more than a generous sprinkle of MSG on top of these fried ribs. The ribs tasted off as each bite produced a weird tickle in the back of your throat — not necessarily from the chili — but some sort of powdered spice or something that I can’t seem to pin point right now — maybe star anise? Friend could only manage 3 bites before he gave up on these deep fried spareribs.
They charge for rice here. $ 1 per bowl. Which I found a bit odd as one of our dishes was a full priced item. I noticed other tables getting hot tea (not sure if they asked though) while we didn’t (I didn’t ask as I assumed we’d be charged for it). So be mindful of that if you visit FuAn Garden some time soon.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening. A clean, small dining area, with several tables occupied. Well staffed, they were friendly and we were seated right away.
Just by looking at the menu, this place seems to offer pretty authentic dishes (Frog anyone?!), it was actually a little intimidating. Where’s the s&p chicken wings?! Lol We played it safe and stuck to the dishes we knew (the cooks were probably shaking their heads. lol)
Vegetable fried rice– a generous serving. Lightly seasoned, not overpowering.
Sweet & sour chicken– another generous portion, served hot and crispy. The glaze has a nice citrus flavor with zest in the sauce.
Green onion pancake– got it for the kids. Another mild flavor. Flaky. Very oily…
Braised green beans– also a bit oily. But I love green beans. Wrinkly skin, tender and still with a crunch. Also a generous portion! Believe it or not, I swear it tasted even better as leftovers the next day! LoL
Mongolian beef– also deserves a thumbs up. Simple flavor, but the chilis did add to its spice. This was more my husband’s dish.
Steamed dumplings– flavorful and so juicy inside, comparable to XLB!
I know know, we probably ordered some of the most Americanized items on their menu. But their braised beans is one of their popular dishes… Overall, generous portions, good flavors that aren’t too salty or rich. This little restaurant offers tasty authentic Szechuan food. Well staffed with decent service.

My fiancé Unilocaled this restaurant because he was craving General Tso’s chicken after watching the Netflix documentary.
Firstly, the parking here is horrible. Not only is it on Convoy but the parking lot has only 10 spaces. So, you are forced to park on the street or nearby.
Secondly, the service is okay. Actually, the service was okay until our bill came. The owner (I am assuming he is because he was the only older male staff there) lingered by our table until we signed our receipt. I found this to be very disturbing because Asian places always stare you down to make sure they get a good tip.
Lastly, the food was a-​ok. I didn’t particularly like the food but maybe we just didn’t order the right things.
I probably won’t come back on my own.

Very similar to Spicy City except less crowded, safer parking, and complementary dessert. I actually came here to eat because Spicy City was closed. FuAn Garden is also similar to DeDe’s Teajuice City except the bathrooms are way cleaner here and they don’t utilize their bathroom as a storage closet. FuAn Garden is more spacious and cleaner than Spicy City and DeDe’s. They also stay open until 1 am to do late night hotpot on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
I had lunch with my mom here. We ordered three dishes and there was so much food. Be prepared to take home leftovers. They offer 3 cold dish appetizers for $ 6 and these are always the best to get when you’re super hungry and you feel like you’re going to die. The menu has something for everyone and all of the typical dishes you’d find at a Szechuan restaurant.
This is the type of restaurant where you’d want to take a picky ass white person to eat ethnic food because there’s a dish for every pallet and the interior is superior compared to some of the Szechuan restaurants I have been to. There Asian places really have you questioning the health codes. We good here, fam!

I was expecting your typical chinese restaurant food, however this place is more traditonal Chinese food. You won’t find much chow mein/​low mein dishes or your typical egg drop soup.
But this place provides awesome ingredients and seasoning in their style of cooking. Vary savory.
Atmosphere: Clean area. Plenty of tables. Also a couple private areas for large parties.
Food: My fiancée’ and I took a minute to order since it was our first time.
–Three Flavor Noodle Soup: excellent broth. Hearty veggies and chicken/​Shrimp/​calamari. Lots of noodles (feeds 4−5people)
–Baby Bok Choy with Mushrooms: sauteed in a savory brown sauce (feeds 3−4people)
–Sweet & Sour Fish (Cod): whole cod fish. deep fried and covered in sweet & sour sauce (great quality sauce) fish was tender.
Service: 1^st time here. we were sat quickly. offered drinks quickly but we sat for 5mins without a menu.
Overall: spent about $ 43 for 3 items. great quality. big food portions. this place is meant for large families/​parties to share food. will come back but won’t order more than 2 items unless we have 4 in our party or more.

I’ve been to Spicy City many times and I think FuAn is slightly better. I really like their cold dishes and the complimentary sweet tapioca dessert. The wait was pretty long though.
Pros:
— Good cold dishes
— More chicken in the spicy fried chicken than Spicy City
— Easy parking
— Free sweet tapioca dessert
Cons:
— Above-​average wait time

Decided to go for lunch. When we sat down we were handed dinner menus. I was a little wtf about having to ask for their lunch menus when it was clearly lunch time. Sounds shady to me… and not a good first impression.
My fiancé ordered general tsos chicken ($ 7.99) and I ordered their kung pao chicken ($ 7.99). The Kung pao was ruined by the whole peppercorns. It was really awful biting into them. There were too many to avoid. Probably one of the worst Chinese dishes I’ve had.
My fiancé found a piece of a metal brush in his food (I posted the picture on Unilocal). Needless to say the waitstaff did not care. His chicken also had a weird after taste.
Their parking lot is really cramped.
I will not be coming back. Szechuan taste was better, friendlier and they had a larger selection for lunch.

We stopped on following a run around the neighborhood. What I like about this location is that they have their own parking lot! YAY for convenience. We walked in and there were ample tables available and we sat where ever we wished.
We were provided hot tea with our meal. Be aware, however, the tea has loose leaves (see photo). There are a TON of loose tea leaves!
We opted to do the combo chow mein (lo mein) and the dry beef hot pot. Our meal was $ 25 total. I felt the food was tasty and the portions were adequate for the costs.
I would love to come back again to try other things since I was very unfamiliar with most of the items on the menu.

Coming from 626 where all the Asian food resides, this place definitely exceeded my expectation. Made a reservation for a big party, the table was ready when we got there. Service was wonderful, very impressive for a Chinese restaurant. They not only serve Szechuan style dishes, and other traditional Chinese dishes.
We ordered the family combo (around 10 dishes) and a couple other dishes since we had about 15 people. The dishes came out really fast and all of them were gone in a couple rounds cause they were just delicious!
A couple of my favorites have to be the Crispy whole tilapia in sweet and sour sauce, the fish was fresh and its soft meat went really well with the sauce, and the dessert they served in the end for the family combo meal. Sesame rice ball with rice wine, YUM, the perfect way to end this meal. The portion was generous and price was reasonable.
Will definitely be back when I’m craving some Chinese food.

FuAn is a Szechuan restaurant. The food was alright. Almost each item had a critique. Then again, I have high standards as I am comparing it to the top Szechuan restaurant in New York City. It is pretty hard to beat.
What FuAn does really well is their Dan Dan Noodles and Snow Pea Shoots. Everybody at my table (3 other folks) agreed with me as we didn’t have much leftover to bring home.
Their other dishes needed some help:
— Hot & Sour Soup — it wasn’t sour at all, so I asked for vinegar, and they brought out red vinegar. FAIL. I had to re-​ask for vinegar again to get the white vinegar.
— Beef Dry Pot — it was way too salty
— Ma Po Tofu — it was too salty; I didn’t taste any «flavor» aside from a lot of spicy flavor (Ma La)
— Steamed Fish — the fish was fresh but definitely wasn’t fed too well when it was alive. It was a farmed fish; it tasted like the fish just ate a lot of dirt.
Based on the reviews, I’m hoping this experience was just an «off» day.
It definitely didn’t help that my soda was flat. The CO2 machine should have a meter reading on it. Not sure how that was missed.
Update:
I was told that there wasn’t a soda machine there, so maybe they poured the soda from a liter bottle. I definitely did not get a can of soda.
Tip:
— If you do go to FuAn, go with a jacket… it’s nippy in there.
