FOX Sports Grill

Atmosphere is a five. I like the layout and views. Proximity to hotel I am staying in five stars for that convenience. I arrived a bit bf the noon lunch rush and was immediately greeted by two sweet hostesses. I was dining alone and the hostess who brought me back gave me choice of where ever I wanted to sit. Suggesting choices and letting me choose «where I would most be comfortable». So sweet. Obviously being slow enabled a bit of that but she didn’t have to ask either. I appreciated that. My waiter came right away. Again very polite and prompt. I ordered the chicken street tacos w avocado. w a bit of lime and cholula hot sauce added they were spot on. The chips on the plate were a bit greasy but super hot. Everything was clean. They use jarred salsa but hey, for bar food overall I was happy!
Friends-​shoot forward two days. Ate the SAME THING. The salsa was SPOT ON. Well done Fox and Manager!!! Well. Done.

In a word, this place sucks. I’ve been here a couple of times due to attending conventions in the attached Hilton Bayfront, each time the experience and food were so so at best. Just yesterday I went for lunch with my son after the auto show, it was against my better judgement to try them again but the main Hilton restaurant was closed.
We were seated in an open section with a total of 6 people in the entire restaurant. Servers were coming and going, bringing items to the few other patrons but no one came to even bring us water or take our order. It was pretty ridiculous as there were more employees than customers in the place. Finally after 15 minutes I went to the front to try to find someone and there were 4 employees chewing the fat at the hostess stand without a care in the world for a customer. Whatever, I can take my business elsewhere so i got my son and left.

This review is based on our company holiday party held last weekend.
We got a late start planning our company party this year and luckily able to book a night at the FOX Sports Grill for our event! From start to finish, Lidia (Director of Event Sales & Marketing) was such a pleasure to work with! This lady really knows what she’s doing, just tell her what your budget is and she will make magic happen. Everything from the signing of the contract, site inspection to set up was not stressful. Lidia even worked with their Chef and created a menu to fit our theme and our budget. We decided on an Old Las Vegas theme, paired the menu items with our theme and even got casino card tables with dealers. It was so much fun and got all of us really excited for our holiday party!
At our holiday party, the Fox Sports Grill crew just took over and handled EVERYTHING! The hostesses were so personable and welcoming. They checked in all our guests, handled the coat check and parking validation with such professionalism and ease. The bartenders and servers were on point. They were always available and so quick with their service! We opted for 3 different food stations along with passed appetizers and everyone raved about the food!
Lidia also went beyond the call of duty, as we left some items at Fox Sports and she offered to return them to our office in UTC. She even brought us some lunch… who does this these days!!?
We are so grateful we found this fantastic venue and looking forward to having more company events here. Kudos to the Fox Sports Grill crew and special thanks to Lidia and Ashley for all their hard work!

Great place to watch my team at lunch during the NAR convention. Location is great. Salad was ok. Dan the waiter was very nice. The view is great.
The location was walking distance.

I’m not even sure why I am giving this place 2 stars. I guess I was just happy the manager was an Oregon Ducks fan.
I was there for a football game while in town for a convention.
I spent 5 minutes at the bar trying to get a beer. Didn’t work.
Went back to my table and spent another 10 minutes or more waiting while the server came to the group I was with. Took one order from one of the 10 people there, then disappeared without taking my order.
I went back to the bar and managed to get served after only being in the place for 20 minutes.
Not once did a server ask me or anyone at the table if we would like food. A couple of the more aggressive people managed to get his attention, make an order. then he disappeared without checking with anyone else at the table if they would like to order.
My table mates shared their BBQ chicken nachos with me, which completely ruined my desire to eat there. Truly disgusting.
I flagged the server down for a 2^nd beer, which came with shards of glass, which ended up in my mouth.
When I took the beer and glass shard to the manager, he was kind enough to replace my beer. However didn’t even offer to comp, or make amends for serving me shards of glass.
To top it all off, the manager passed us all cards and asked us to review them on Unilocal.
Oops!
But it did double my rating because he was an Oregon Ducks fan. And the Ducks won. I won’t quite drink shards of glass for a Ducks win every week, but it did work this week.

I attended a retirement party hosted here, and it was such a good experience. The place was set up very nicely and everyone was very attentive. The food was delicious — the carne asada especially stood out to me. Perfectly seasoned and grilled. Not chewy, not dry.
What especially stood out to me was the service that the guests received. My table had someone checking up on us on the regular — I never once wondered, «Where’s our server?» My biggest gripe about service at most places is that my water glass is usually looked over and perpetually dry. Literally the minute I’d take my last sip, there’d be a friendly face right behind me, ready to fill it up. Talk about vigilant! Any empty, dirty plates were whisked away in a heartbeat as well.
The drinks? Strong. The food? Delicious. But the cherry on the top was the service. A big thanks to Sean, Melanie, Jackie, Jake, Christine and Julie — the fantastic staff who made that night the enjoyable one it was.

This used to be our go-​to spot for Sunday Funday while visiting San Diego. This was until yesterday. There was hardly anybody there, which is odd for football season. Every other time we’ve been its been packed. Maybe people are catching on.
Let’s get to the food. I ordered the loaded quesadilla and opted to spend $ 2 extra for guacamole. When my order came, I thought it was a joke. The cup that the guacamole came in was so tiny. It was literally like a tablespoon worth of guacamole. That’s it. On top of that it was brown, as in not fresh looking at all. The quesadilla was just so-​so, and was pretty small for the price. My husband ordered the fish tacos. He said that the fish tasted old. He ended up sending them back. In the 10 years we’ve been married I have literally never seen him send his food back, so I’m sure they were really nasty.
Ok, now comes the disturbing part. The whole time I was eating, I had to keep swatting fruit flies off of my plate. We were sitting somewhat close to the bar, and I have a bad feeling the flies were coming from there. Thankfully I wasn’t drinking anything from the bar, because whatever is being served has a little (or a lot!) something extra.
So my husband left with an empty stomach yet unappetized, and I left with a queasy feeling for the rest of the day. So much for Sunday Funday! I guess we will have to find a new spot when we visit SD. It’s a shame since the location is so nice.

Ate lunch here during a break from a work conference. They really give you few choices at the Hilton. The place was crowded, lots of others doing the same thing. The service was good. We got salads and one of us got the BBQ Nachos and HOLY COW, they were piled as high as the Himalayan Mountains, I kid you not. Everyone sitting at the bar (big surprise) went «OMG» when they arrived. I just laughed, she barely made a dent. Our pear and Asian Chicken salads were HUGE as well, but we got most of them down. They were good. But everything was good, price was Hiltonish, hope Paris doesn’t spend it all on manicures,

I never knew this fun little gem existed until yesterday!
Located right in the Hilton Bayfront, this restaurant has an awesome sports-​esque aesthetic inside it’s dining room, but resort style dining outdoors.
My pear, blue cheese, and grilled chicken salad was amazing, and we ordered a side of sweet potato tots that were heaven!
I highly recommend this restaurant for its location, feel and great food! Love it!

Great place to watch any sporting game — there are a LOT of TVs. The food and service is great. You can park at the parking structure next to the hotel and get 3 hours free while dining here. The view is beautiful right on the water.

Nice «newer» Sports Bar, fresh and clean feel. Nice view of the water outside too. The bartenders are real good. I had a breakfast, very reasonable at $ 8 bucks. Will repeat. One challenge, is they can only pipe in volume form one game while 8 or more play, could increase the volume a tad (then again it was game 1, week one Sunday am) as well.
Tip, Id come back and hang outside, nice area to chill
Tip2 — Parking is via self parking in lot adjacent to the Hilton. They will validate for 3 hours.

For bar food in a hotel, it’s not bad. The restaurant part of the bar can get crowded due to an overflow of convention attendees who need to eat and are in a rush to get back to the convention center. As such, there can be a long wait, both to sit down and to get your food.
The menu offers options, both for the nacho junkie and health conscious individual, which was a relief to me. Offer me a basic salad and I’m good. In looking at the pics posted here, I note that the menu hasn’t changed much over the years. An upgrade would be nice.
The salad was good and the chicken tasted surprisingly acceptable. There was way too much dressing on the salad, but other than that, it served the purpose. Not a 5 star restaurant, but convenient and tolerable.
This is the type of place that will continue to make money due to its location despite, or actually, in spite of what is offered. Convention attendees are hungry, and sadly, willing to pay way too much for an average place that is rather drab on the inside. The outdoor seating is much better, I would sit there if possible.

Good waterfront hotel restaurant if you’re in the area.
Large dinning room, bar area and outside seating. Definitely not a place I would venture to on it’s own… really good and convenient if you are at the Convention Center or Hotel and want to palce to plop down without going to far and want something more than your Convention Center food.
Part of Downtown but on the Marina side past the convention center on the first floor of the Hilton, it’s kinda on it’s own compared to the rest of the Downtown restaurant scene. I guess it works to their advantage though.
I’m always here for a short period to grub and grab a couple drinks. Okay size menu… looks like they try to cater to the norm sports bar style foods… burgers, nachos, tacos and it’s always been good. Worth it for the area and meets my needs.

Disclosure: I only eat here during Comic Con because its convenient.
It gets a little worse each year… but I understand… with the massive crowds its easy for Fox to get away with higher prices and lower quality. The panicky stressed out bartenders look like they need a xanax/​prozac cocktail to chill the FUC out and smile. The waiters are cool though.
About $ 15 for burgers and sandwiches, $ 10 for large beers (20oz?), which becomes a $ 30+ unsatisfying meal after tax and tip.
I don’t think I’ll come here again next year unless I’m really really really lazy about walking through the massive cattle herd of humans to get to the Gaslamp’s restaurants.
I’m sure this place is much better during the other 360 non-​Comic Con days

Dear Fox Sports Grill,
I know this is a big weekend with ComiCon being here and all, but please don’t jack up your prices and lower you food standards beyond inedible.

Not bad, keeping in mind:
— It’s located in the Hilton just across the courtyard from the convention center, so it’s a convenient place to grab a bite, brew, or watch a game.
— Pretty big space with lots of seating.
— Plenty of TV screens on different games pointed in different directions.
— Decent menu variety with appetizers, wings, and full entrées. I thought my carne asada tots were quite good, with a tasty blend of chipotle aioli and guacamole. The carne asada itself was really tasty but there was a really small amount of meat.
— The beer list is decent. This is probably because San Diego is an awesome place for craft beer, so they have selections from Alesmith, Green Flash, Stone, Mother Earth, etc. on tap.
— The patio is right next to the courtyard area where my friends were getting married. There were a couple guests, but fortunately they were quiet when the ceremony started. Kind of weird to have random strangers observing: p
The prices are a couple dollars more than I might expect, but I think that accounts for the location. I thought the food and ambiance were decent but I didn’t fall in love. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat at this spot, but if you’re nearby, it’s a solid option!

This is probably the best food option at the Bayfront Hilton hotel, located at the bottom floor level.
The service is good, ‘tho I heard others say at times slow due to overwhelming business and short staffing when there’s events (conventions /​conferences), I didn’t experience any delays.
The menu is okay, it’s sort of pub and bar food, thus the name «Grill» and has sports running on multiple TV’s, thus the name «Sports» and Im guessing maybe the FOX Network might have some interest in this establishment maybe?
Personally, I like to venture out into the Gaslamp District for more unique food and try out different places, but if you’re at the Bayfront Hilton and need to stay local (‘tho it’s only a 5 min walk into the Gaslamp, no need for a cab), this is a good option and probably the best local one for hotel guests and visitors of the Bayfront Hilton.

This is a special review because I came here for an industry event, so my perception may be a little different from other customers. This place can be difficult to find if you don’t know where you’re going since it’s located somewhere within the Hilton… in other words it might make sense if you are only coming here as a hotel guest.
The venue is very «deep» so when someone is speaking on the microphone, it’s hard to capture everyone’s attention. The audio also projects to the outside, so there is somewhat of a disconnect, but I like the concept. As for the food, the sliders were one of the main attractions, but they were not extremely memorable. The thing that stood out the most was the service, so A+ for that. Anyways, FOX Sports Grill has a little weird of a vibe, a mix between classy and sports pub. It’s getting there!

We had a group lunch here (14 people) and a group breakfast here (10 people). Both experiences were OK. If you are staying at the hotel, they give you a discount coupon for the Fox Grill, which is for food only (I think) — use it.
This physical location is large, so there was never a wait. The service was all friendly, but, I found the food to be just OK, which is the main reason for my 3 stars, and I felt that way after two consecutive days.
That said, plenty of televisions (20+), full bar, and an big beer selection — so, you will find plenty to like.

Having the Fox Sports logo took my attention, so I decided to enter in the middle of the UCLA’s game. I need to say that the food is not bad, nether the service; a guy named Mauricio is very cool. I loved the Nachos especially in the happy hour. Well it might not be the greatest restaurant but is ok. I expected more for been the Fox Sports grill.

FOX is more or less a place I’d only visit if you were in the area, staying at the Hilton, or win a gift card from them like I happened to.
If your going to visit park in the Hilton’s parking structure and make sure you bring your parking ticket so that you can have it validated for 3hrs free!
The food here is at most average nothing that was like wow i wanna come back and have that again.
When you check in here you get a free appetizer up too $ 12.95 with purchase of an entrée don’t forget to take advantage of this!
We ordered Mozzarella Wedges for our free appetizer they were pretty good thick and cheesy and tasted awesome with some of the tomato sauce.
My lady and I both ordered dinner as well I decided to go with the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger it was decent but a little short on the BBQ sauce. She ordered the BBQ pork sliders and she said they weren’t bad either.
The best part of coming here had to be sitting on the patio wile we enjoyed our food I think we enjoyed the mellow atmosphere a little bit more.
The patio was awesome it had a fire pit going down the middle of it we were seated a few feet away from the fire as it got a little bit darker my lady got cold so we asked the staff if we could move our table closer to the fire they said yes so we moved it and just chilled ate our food and watched a Dole container ship be unloaded in the harbor.
For a Friday night this place was pretty dead there couldn’t have been more then a dozen people here I’m not sure if its always like that or what but I do remember when Fox Sports Grill was at Irvine Spectrum and it was generally pretty busy and their location has nothing on the view that you get here.
All in all I’d come back here but more so just to grab a beer before a Padres game so we could kick it on the patio and enjoy the harbor.
