This canyon is located just behind the rose garden that’s easily seen from Park Blvd and is between Balboa Park and Morley Field. The canyon is a nice showcase of the Coastal Sage Scrub plants that are native to California and as you drop into the canyon via the interpretive trail, there are signs showing the common and botanical names of some of these plants. Once you are in the canyon or decide to take another route down, there are a bunch of vernacular and dirt trails everywhere for running or whatever. I’d just urge you to be careful of where you walk because you might stumble upon an impromptu toilet or encampment. I’ve cleaned up this canyon for the last three years for the Creek to Bay cleanup and some of the things we find you definitely don’t want to step on.
