FLOAT Spa San Diego

I’m willing to try anything that claims it will reduce back pain. Floating weightlessly in quiet relaxation sounded very appealing, so I went ahead and got a 3-​pack of visits from Groupon. I’ve used 2 so far and each experience was different. The first time, not knowing what to expect, I found myself kind of sputtering a lot inside the tank because I’d forget I was completely surrounded and almost covered in salt water. I exited the tank 3 – 4 times to spray myself with the clean water bottle they provide, and to get the salt water out of my eyes. Claustrophobia didn’t really rear its head for me, so that was a relief.
The second time, I was better prepared. I took swim goggles with me, and those made a huge difference — didn’t have to exit the tank for fresh water this time!
Other than the experience itself, the spa is decent with amenities in the shower and then in the powder room, where they provide a blow-​dryer, lotions, contact solution and Q-​tips for patron use after the float & shower. The staff — well, the one guy who’s been at the desk both times I’ve been — is really nice and will answer any questions about the experience. I’m sure they get a lot of questions.
The appointment system is simple — make an account on their website, select your room (the only thing to note is that Room 4 is more like a bathtub, for those who are too freaked out by the tanks) and pick a time. I would recommend doing this at the end of the day when you have nothing else to do after, and can go home and revel in the relaxed feeling (and more importantly, not have to primp after a hasty shower).

Over all a very nice float spa. The lady who runs it, seemed nice. I’d go back. But the reason for only 4 stars, they had no conditioner for after, my hair was a crisp from the salt, and it feels annoying to have to go home and shower again. I also hope they buy swim caps, I don’t wanna dry my hair out or ruin my color.

Whether you are new to floating or an experienced meditator, this place will suit all of your needs. The staff is friendly and the owner is passionate about the floating experience. They have a variety of different pods and a large float room plus they provide everything you need such as showers, towels, earplugs, etc. — everything is clean and the atmosphere is soothing. I noticed that they offer specials and memberships so if you have always wondered about floating I would definitely suggest taking the plunge and trying something new. I float for the combination of the healing and relaxing benefits, but I’m also finding that this is a great way to enhance my meditation practice. Not only is it an opportunity to meditate for a long stretch, but it takes you to a completely different level — you can make it as deep or intense as you want but you are always in a safe environment.

I ended up buying the 40 hour package… floating regularly since February. Helps me get through a tough day knowing I’m going to have a transformative experience later on.

What a wonderful experience! This was my first time floating and I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend the room especially if you’re claustrophobic. I tried it with all the lights off but that scared me a little. Luckily, they supply you with a small ambient light cube if you choose to use it which I set it to a soft red glow so I could find my way out when I was done. Deep breathing helps me meditate and that usually stirs the water a bit so the pod I think would break my relaxation more when body parts would touch the wall. I drifted in and out of dream states with my body feeling much less sore than it usually would afterwards. I highly recommend this on a recovery day after heavy lifting.

I went there tonight 830 appointment with a groupon. Let me start by saying I have pretty decent meditation skill and went into the his experience hoping for the best… What I got was OK and maybe just not my things
The man who was there at the front desk was soft spoken and kind. He walked my sister and I through what was going to happen and gave us a tour of the pod room and the suit. I chose the suit being a little timid of the pod. The suit was large like a jacuzzi but only about 10 inches of water. The room and the water seemed warm when I first Got in. While I was in the tank the music was on and so were the lights. I really enjoyed the music as it gave me something to focus on the get settled. He instructed me on how to turn off the lights but once in the tank I couldn’t find the piper switch to turn off the lights, so mine stayed on the whole hour, which I was totally ok with. While I was floating I was FREEZING. Your body is mostly out of the water and in any floating situation out of the water mean COLD. When the music came back on at the end I found myself not relaxed and probably more tense then when I went in. The hot shower at the end felt pretty good.
Like I said in the beginning, I just don’t think that this is my type of relaxation. Works for some but doesn’t looks like I’ll be a regular float enthusiast.

The only thing preventing me from leaving a 5 star review is the price. Groupon and Living Social both offer a 3/​$ 89. $ 30/​hr is reasonable, I MIGHT even be willing to go as high as $ 40/​hr, but $ 75/​hr is absolutely ridiculous, as are their membership rates.
Price aside, I have had some mind blowing experiences in the tanks here! The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly.

Return patron. My boyfriend booked a reservation, 3 weeks ago, for him and I. He confirmed via text message. Short story is: we showed up in a few mins ahead of time to see if we could finagle a few extra mins, and they were closed. They closed 2 ½ hours early? Bummer…

I’ve been floating for almost two years now and would recommend it to anybody interested in relaxing both the mind and body.
Look for multiple (3+) float deals. Once is not enough, and it will substantially lower the cost.

I’m a big believer in trying new things. Why not? You hear all the experiences from everyone, read the experiences… why not feel it for yourself?
I wish I had an amazing sensory. out of body… super relaxing experience to report but I don’t. My three stars is nothing bad… it really just meant it was an okay experience. This is not to say my experience will be the same for others (duh.) this was just my own experience.
I got a GROUPON here, and if it wasn’t for that, I doubt I would have paid for the session ($ 59/​month on a membership plan). but I was willing to give it a try.
You are able to book online, which made it really easy and upon arriving (show up 10 minutes prior to fill out some forms). The front desk gal was really nice, and showed me to my room (Room #1) which looked… a scary isolation tank. I was hoping for the other room since I had seen pictures of the updated looking pod, but no luck!
FLOAT Spa is located in Miramar tucked away in industrial quiet businesses. Plenty of parking is present. I appreciated the location and seemed like it was perfectly chosen to void out loud noise. The room of the pod was equipped with a chair with a towel and ear plugs. There is a shower and bath stuff (body wash and shampoo).
My experience was as follows: Once I got into the tank after the shower and closed the door. or hatch… (I panicked a bit) I sat down and started to float immediately. The water is about 4 feet deep, so no worries there is no way to drown. The music comes on (it comes on for 10 minutes) and I began to struggle… looking for a comfortable spot. I finally found it (hand my hands at my sides) but began to notice my body drifting. thought I was going crazy until my feet touched the walls of the pod. then I knew I was drifting. It was a little bothersome because as soon as I got relaxed. I kept drifting to the wall. One of my ear plugs came undone somehow but I couldn’t move or else I would lose my place and relaxation. I finally got to the middle of the pod and was able to relax a bit. I had a long week so I thought about everything possible. It was pure dark and quiet. Did not hear a peep. The water is warm. I finally was able to relax towards the end .and then dun dun dun. the music came on. I actually didn’t realize how relaxed I was until the music came on. that shook me up quite a bit. I was a like disappointed it went by so fast (all 50 minutes). Overall, I think with time. like meditation I would have been able to experience it the way I was supposed to but for the first time, it was nearly impossible for me. There are too many external what ifs, thoughts, new feelings. that it was difficult to just fully relax. Did I regret it? Absolutely not. I left a «better person.» Did it feel better than the massage I got after the FLOAT experience? Unfortunately not.
Hopefully, you first timers will have a better experience. Here are some tips I put together for you from my experience!
1. USE THE EAR PLUGS! It drowns out any possible sounds, and the salt water that goes into your ear causing that weird noisy sound. Make sure they are tucked in well!
2. Use the floatie they have there as a head rest! Without it, you may find yourself trying to find a good resting position for your head. This helps keep your head a bit above water too avoiding the salt water to your ears and eyes.
3. Shower BEFORE and AFTER! Shower before the session so you can get rid of all the dirt and junk from your body. Shower after to get rid of the salt from the pod water
4. Practice some meditation exercises before the session to allow your body to relax quicker for your first time.
5. Forgot eye contact solution, hair dryer, towels, lotion, cotton balls, q-​tips? No worries, they have a common room with all this stuff!
6. Put the smaller towel by the pod so when you get out of the shower, or get out of the pod after your session you have a nice landing area for your wet feet.
7. Let it be what it is. Will you relax? Will you not? Will you enjoy it? Go again? Just let your mind, heart and body determine that one.

This place is great.
Initially, I was drawn to Float Spa because they have a float ROOM. Not a tank, not a pod, a ROOM. Although the room doesn’t seem too far off in size from a tank/​pod at first glance, it’s a world of difference. Being 6’1, I normally feel the small small space of a tank/​pod when I extend my arms, whether it be over my head or out to my sides. I was able to do this in Room 4 with no issue and it was wonderful.
I like that they use peroxide instead of chlorine in the water which (no smell and no hair/​skin damage which is nice) and the facility is SUPER clean. Everything you need is provided: ear plugs, jelly for any cuts/​abrasions/​cracked skin, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, lotion, hair dryer, contact lens solution, q-​tips, etc.
I had the chance to meet Mark, the owner, and he was nice and welcoming which is always a good thing to be. There was a hiccup with my reservation, which made me a little weary, but Mark was super accommodating and helpful in resolving the issue.
This place is great, I highly recommend it.

FIRST TIME FLOATING? Here’s Your Survival Guide:
1) You are NOT going to get claustrophobic.
*If you do, its because you have the spaz gene and you probably also get light headed & start sweating in an elevator. Don’t worry about this, its gonna be totally cool. And don’t float with the light on. my wife did this the first time & regretted it.
2) You are NOT going to have a hard time with the silence.
*As a matter of fact, you are going to LOVE the fact that there is no static in your brain for once in your life so much, that you will want to postpone the urge to turn it back on once you are done. You are not going to miss anything while chillin’ the truck out for a little self-​love.
3) You are NOT floating in the last dude’s water.
*They cycle and swap that ‘ish out after every use so its all fresh and ready to rock each time.
BONUS TIP:
Lay flat & don’t use that floatation noodle they offer you. Its just going to jack your neck up and make you think you need to stiffen to stay buoyant. You don’t. And you don’t need the noodle. I used it the first time I went for this reason, but, after a while kicked it to the curb and the result was 2x better without it.
Oh, and put the ear plugs in BEFORE you get wet ;)

I had never tried Floatation Therapy before but it was very popular among the «movers and shakers» in London England and I had friends who swore that it was the «least they could do to give themselves the most» if that makes sense. So I was in San Diego and found this place very close to the Marine Corp Air Station Miramar. The owner is a peach of a man! He is helpful, friendly, and explained the whole process.
So I showered, put some earplugs in, gripped the rails so as not to slip on the floor of the tank, and then closed the door. Suddenly I was floating in this perfectly warmed water, a sea of tranquility, and it was amazing!!! I started out with a few prayers and then focused on dreams, goals and aspirations and wow, the most powerful positive images filled my head in bright color, it was as if I was living these dreams. Now I am not that kind of guy but all my stresses and worries melted away and I was so peaceful. Gentle music brought me out of my perfect peace and it was so hard to leave the tank, it really is a «perfect place». I climbed out, showered off and chatted with the owner over a quick glass of ice water and he was clearly happy that I had found what he already knew. Please do yourself a favor and when life is starting to gnaw at your core, float back to your peaceful place. I wish I lived in San Diego, this place is THE PLACE! Thank you so much!

Clean and serene. My third float here and I still have the same feedback. The front desk attendant today, Laura was helpful and professional. The rooms are well maintained and I will definitely return and refer my friends.

Salt soaks help relieve injuries– I’ve done them for years & they work great. I have a (painful) recurring neck/​shoulder injury I can’t shake (–unfortunately, it’s not in an ‘salt-​soak’ friendly, area). A Google search led me to an interesting Joe Rogan podcast about Sensory Deprivation Tank (‘Flotation Tank’). –I found a Groupon deal and signed up at FLOAT Spa.

FLOAT Spa San Diego: It’s easy to miss. The office & building faces Padgett St. The office was cozy & inviting– dimly lit. The room & pod were big– reminded me of Cocoon. LOL The girl told me the salt content was 12x the density of the salt in sea water & warned me NOT to get salt in my eyes– gave me an extra face towel & spray bottle. She also gave me earplugs, petroleum jelly (for open wounds (eww!)), towels (no charge) & my shower stall had sham/​conditioner & soap. It was perfect– had everything I needed– just had to get in!

Experience: Getting in & closing the hatch was like getting into the trunk of a car (–probably) — it was pitch dark! It didn’t take much to float and because it was so dark, it freaked me out. The water wasn’t cold/​hot & I could hear meditation music playing inside the pod. I was alone in the dark– no sound, no light– just calm… and yes, I dozed off. I could hear my back, neck & knees popping– all by themselves– I must’ve been very relaxed because my body kept twitching. The more I tried clearing my mind, the more cluttered it got. 10 minutes before my time was up, I finally reached my place of Zen. Getting out wasn’t as easy as getting in! LOL– So it’s a flotation tank, filled with enough salt water to keep you buoyant– that was my struggle! Once I got my knees planted, to crawl out, I’d lift one knee and the other started floating up– it was crazy.

After: It’s been 3 days and although my neck & shoulder still hurt– it’s not nearly as tight as it was– I was told to use flotation therapy in conjunction with massage. Some of the best sleep I’ve had in a long time and my stress-​level decreased, big time! Things that normally get on my last nerve was easy to shake, off.

If it weren’t for Float Spa San Diego– I never would’ve had the chance to experience this level of relaxation. I’ll be making this a regular appointment, for sure. I can’t wait to share this with everyone I know! :)

Amazing experience! Great tanks and service. I had amazing visualizations and insights my very first time. Well worth the monthly subscription and regular sessions!

I’ve been doing 2 hour floats about 3 times a month for the last year and a half. Like anything, floating is a practice that deepens over time. My first few experiences were just ok. As I got used to the process and began to feel more comfortable with the tank, I’ve been able to let go of deep layers of tension and enter expanded states of consciousness. As my mind begins to settle, I often experience a kind of life review of current situations but from a new and accepting perspective. Once the insights are had, the mind continues to settle and thoughts pass by with less frequency. The physical body eventually drops away and the experience of the subtle body’s aliveness is what is most present.
Floating has been my most valuable «cross training» modality for my mindfulness meditation practice. The two have great synergy and powerfully inform each other.
Mark and everyone at Float Spa are helpful, kind and professional and I would highly recommend this facility to anyone interested in stress reduction, mindfulness practice or personal development. But please do yourself a favor– if you’re going to try this, commit to at least 6 sessions. Enter with a «beginners mind» and letting go of expectations. Then watch as your experience naturally deepens.

After hearing about this on a joe rogan podcast, I decided to give it a try.
All I can say is WOW!
I’ve never felt so calm before and now plan on doing my this at least a few times per month.

Floated for my first time here — pretty legit experience. I didn’t set my expectations too high because I had heard so many mixed reviews on floating in general, however, I really enjoyed it. Takes a little while to let your body and mind adapt and by the time you finally do, it’s over … But after I got out I realized how much I really was able to disconnect and just think while I was in there. Definitely want to do it again.
The spa itself is small and cute. Reminds me of a tanning parlor or something. Very clean and comfortable though.
I say, give it a shot!
The location is a little hidden, but once you realize it’s not in the big shopping center off the main street, but actually behind it, you’ll see it right off the side street.
