Nice church. Nice people. Very friendly people introduced themselves to me.
Programs for kids, adult meditation, and even ASL.
I only attended once and appears to swing left… didn’t notice
any balance from the pulpit. I left wondering «What would
FoxNews say?»

this is a lovely church of welcoming people. they dont tell you want to believe, rather that, we all find our own path and we are here to help one another on the journey.
i like the diversity of people as well as beliefs.

This church seems slow to accept new people. i attended for over a year as a friend. I’m shy but made an effort yet to mix in and get to know people. My feeling was that they knew my contributions would be relatively small because I don’t make much money.
In this respect it seemed like churches everywhere. I’m ultra liberal and don’t believe in God but they claim to welcome doubters. They weren’t mean or nasty, just not welcoming to me. I give them 3 stars but no more than that. I’ll never return.

I didn’t find this church as exciting as other people seem to have found it. Although I am a very liberal person, I’m certainly not going to claim that liberals are better than anyone else, nor do I think that making a church liberal will solve all the problems facing churches in America. I’ve visited a lot of churches ranging from far-​left to far-​right wing. In my opinion, what is wrong with most churches isn’t so much close-​mindedness, as a simple lack of depth, richness, complexity, and relevance to people’s lives.
One thing I found very off-​putting about this church was that during the service, they seemed to be tooting their own horn and giving themselves a pat on the back more than anything else. «Hey look, we’re so open-​minded. Yay us!» I fail to see how that is anything other than a thinly-​disguised version of the «I’m right, you’re wrong.» mentality that pervades most fundamentalist churches.
I didn’t really get much out of the service here, nor did I feel like I really had the opportunity to contribute much to the church community. They seemed to be talking a lot during the service about what the church has done in the past, but talking little about things to be done in the future. I didn’t come away from the service feeling like I had deep things to think about, or feeling like I had gained some sort of insight into spiritual aspects of my life.
So if you like the «yay we drive hybrid cars and don’t hate gay people so go us!» mentality, then maybe you’ll like this place. But if you’re looking for something deeper… I don’t know? Maybe you’ll find it here, but personally, I feel like I’m still looking.

There is so much to say about this church. It’s odd to even call it a church. It is almost an anti-​church. It is by definition, a liberal religion. Before I found UU, I could never go to church because of how exclusive organized religions are (and other reasons which go against my belief system which I will not list here). This is a place for everybody: all races, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities etc. This place is about love and community. It serves as a hub for community activism. I just became a member, and know that my life, and the lives of those around me will greatly benefit from it.
This creed-​less faith may just be what you are looking for if you feel like you want a greater sense of community, a non hypocritical church, or an interesting lecture to attend on Sunday mornings. This place really is for everyone (even those who may think they are too conservative for this – be open!).

I went here a few times with my mom, and it was the first church I wasn’t cursing out half way through the sermon. In fact, there sort of isn’t a sermon. There is always a speaker, but it rotates and there are different people all the time. There are all sorts of musical acts or special speeches — I remember one time, there was African drumming. There is a humongous pipe organ that is absolutely gorgeous. The best thing about it was that no one was trying to convert anyone. There were people from all walks of life, all religious, ethnicities, sexual orientations, etc. and they were all there to have the spiritual experience of their choice. In the parking lot, you will find a lot of Hybrid cars and eco-​friendly, left-​wing bumper stickers, but that’s part of what I liked about it. I hate church — For some reason, I despise it with every ounce of my being. I don’t believe in god or a god as anyone has thus far defined one to me. But, I didn’t mind being at this church at all. In fact, I went back willingly several more times and enjoyed myself.

I went to the First UU Church of San Diego in Hillcrest for the first time this weekend. I was there to attend the San Diego Women’s Chorus’s performance, and it was a great night!
Although I’m not a member of the UU Church, I’ve always wondered about it and have been drawn to their ideas and their open spirit of inclusiveness… TRUE inclusiveness!
This church was like a campus, and it truly felt like a place of learning. There were many small buildings gathered together in «school campus» fashion, with a central «quad”-like courtyard. The auditorium where the chorus sang had a beautiful pipe organ, which I’d love to come back and listen to! This was obviously the building where they hold their services, and it was great. The seats were pull-​down theater-​style type seats, and they were new and comfortable.
There was a really nice peaceful feeling to this place, and it made me want to be brave enough to come back and check out membership. I’m not a «religious» person, but definitely spiritual. This place seems like a welcoming one for someone like me.
