Ethan Allen has always been synonymous with beautiful furnishings. But the real gem at the Claremont Mesa store is one of the designers Hernando! Wow! He had such a meticulous eye and really helped us design a fabulous space. He was conscious of our budget and our vision and didn’t try to push anything on us. What a breath of fresh air!

Poor service.

I will never spend a dime in any Ethan Allen’s! I was out shopping with my mom and we went to Ethan Allen to go and see if they had any end tables for my bedroom, so we walked in and I asked the receptionist if they had any items that were marked down? she said yes all the way in the back part of the store. Before I go any further let me say I have bought furniture from an Ethan Allen years ago so I already now how expensive they can be. Ok so we are in the back room looking to see if we can find a hidden treasure we were there for about 15 seconds before a male sales clerk approached us and by that time I had already scanned the room and decided there was nothing that caught my eye except for one thing and it was outrageously over priced. So the gentleman said hello can I help you and I replied no thank you we are leaving I am not in a $ 499 shopping mood to buy one night stand but thank you anyway. I couldn’t believe what happens next! He follows us through the store as we are making our way to the exit doors then he say’s. Maybe you should go shop at Jeromes or Ikea where things are cheap and the way he said it was with a sassy smart ass attitude! and then he walked off and went immediately to the receptionist and started talking about us. I could have confronted him on the spot but I felt like I was a better person for walking away. So guess what I will be shopping at another furniture store there is plenty of competition out there.

We had our whole house done by Ethan Allen. The designer we used was Robert Cullom he ha excellent taste in color and design he is friendly courteous and extremely talented. Everyone that walks into my home always asked me who was my decorator from the color of our walls to the furniture to the floors. Rob’s expert advice and talent are showcased Good job

They had some nice stuff, but I have to say the sales associate/​decorators can be annoying, they follow you around and find you every five minutes to ask you some random question and are rather pushy, if I wanted your help I would ask you the first SIX times that you asked! Seriously people that just makes me not want to shop here!

What a disappointment with the service. Walked in on Sunday late afternoon to buy a cabinet. Did our homework and called ahead to make sure it is on display and in stock. Susie was kind enough to prepare the quote and have it ready to go if we do decided to purchase. Arrive at 4:30yish…saw the furniture, loved it and said we want to buy it. She said they will close the transaction. We are paying with gift cards we got as wedding presents. Needless to say, there were a lot of back and forth between the accountant/​cashier processing our payment and we kept getting different stories. Accountant does not know how to process payment with GCs, system is giving them a hard time, and then change of heart… she got it and receipt will be printed. Then our designer disappeared again to the back room. After a full hour of waiting and wasting our time, we finally asked the receptionist (who had to stay late for us too) to call the designer and just print us something (an invoice or whatever). Your technical difficulties and settling it, should never ever involve a customer. It’s not our problem that you are not familiar with our payment system, so we should not be burdened by it.
A day later I had to call the store and ask for the manager to tell her about our bad experience. She called back and left a VM. Then she remembered that she was supposed to send us an email confirming our order. If I did not call… who knows how many days before we actually get our email confirmation? Do you really depend on your clients on how to run your store? I hate to say it but we’ve had better experience with Living Spaces in Mission Valley, Crate and Barrel from UTC (who has by the way, stellar customer service-​they even send you thank you cards for your purchase, how personal!), Plummers in Miramar and even WorldMarket in 4S Ranch! We’ve done our share of furniture shopping so we know what kind of service we deserve.
Shame on you EA!

Not recommended… not even worth giving all details…

The quality used to be superb but now it’s sub-​par. I purchased three pieces of furniture in November, 2014 and all of them had to be sent back for repair or are still waiting to be repaired. It’s now April, 2015 and I have to say, I’m over it. I just want my money back.
While the Customer Service Rep has been very responsive and helpful, I can’t say the same for the Clairemont Mesa Blvd. store. The designer who ordered the furniture told me it was my problem, not hers. The store manager called me twice, and the second time asked me the same questions she asked the first time. When I asked her if she even read the detailed emails (with photos) I sent her, she said she deleted them. Professionalism is sorely lacking in that office to say the least.
The manager’s continued stance is that Ethan Allen will fix the issues. My stance is that I’ll most likely be dead before that happens. All I want is for them to pick up the furniture and refund my money. I’d rather sit on the floor than continue to deal with people who don’t have the faintest clue about Quality Control.
After 23 years of buying EA furniture, I will never buy anything from them again.

After spending over $ 600 on a light fixture, it arrived and was defective. After trying to blame the electrician and everyone but themselves, they agreed to order me a new fixture.
When I asked for an update 8 days after I’d place the order, I was told that both people helping me wouldn’t be in for two days and they’d get back to me then. The manager could not be bothered to come to the phone when I asked for her.
Seriously, haven’t these people ever heard of customer service?

I always enjoy working with the designer and the quality is good, but am disappointed with the business end of the transactions. I’m currently waiting for some ready-​made pillows I ordered two months ago and was told today they are back ordered, and I might have them in another three weeks. It seems EA needs to embrace not-​so-​current technology and send order status emails, and charge credit cards when items ship as most companies do. Three months to wait for ready-​made pillows is excessive to say the least. I’ll think twice before returning to EA.

I walked in the store looking for a console table. As I walked in I was greeted by the receptionist. I told her I was looking for a table I had seen at Ikea but they did not have the size I was looking for. She gave me a smirk and replied «We don’t sell furniture’s like Ikea here– This is Ethan Allen». Hello??? I think I saw the name before I entered the store. Seems like the receptionist had an attitude that I could not afford to buy furniture at Ethan Allen? Am I suppose to carry my bank statement everywhere I go? They made me uncomfortable and I just walked out– Went ahead and ordered the table from Sunpan. Good Bye Ethan Allen– will never shop here again or recommend this store to anyone I know.

I was quite disappointed with this service. I was interested in window coverings and arranged an appointment. The interior designer, Maureen, wrote the appointment date in her scheduler incorrectly and missed our appointment. She then showed up the next day. We were lucky to be home. She provided us with useful information and we requested a quote. She never provided us with this quote. To this day, we still have not heard from her.

‘ll give this company 5 stars for great quality furniture and 1 stat for horrible delivery and customer service. The furniture takes forever to be delivered. They want be to keep the entire day open for delivery– and will not commit to a time. The designer that came to my house to design the room cancelled and rescheduled 4 times– which should have been my first clue. Then– when the bed came they had a defective piece that they had to reorder. And now I have to wait another 2 – 3 months to get the part and commit another entire day to wait for delivery. Absolutely no apologies on their part either.

I ordered my first Ethan Allen 25 years ago. I recently ordered a new leather sofa to replace my old EA leather sofa (16 years old). The quality is not the same. It is 3 months old and the back cushions are folding in half. I was told the leather is dyed all the way through, but the tiniest scuff shows the light color underneath. After someone sits on it, the next person can feel the indentation. They have come to look at it, but I have not heard anything after several phone calls. Between quality and customer service, I think I will take my business elsewhere from now on.

DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. I have now had TWO horrible experiences with this store and will never shop here again. The first time I ordered custom made sofas which were supposed to be delivered in 6 – 8 weeks. It ultimately took over 3 months to get the sofas delivered. Time after time I was assured that the sofas would arrive, first in 7 weeks, then 10 weeks, then 12 weeks, and then they were finally delivered in 14 weeks. I had specifically chosen Ethan Allen over other similar stores because they promised to deliver in a shorter time period than others, and I wanted to have the new sofas before I had family coming to visit. Obviously the sofas were NOT delivered by that time.
The second time I bought a lamp for just under $ 400. The lamp took two and a half months get delivered. And, to top it all off, the delivery guy KICKED MY DOG! He then insisted that she was trying to bite him. To put things in perspective, she is a 10 pound, extremely cute, people and dog friendly dog that has never attempted to bite anyone in any way ever before.
I only gave Ethan Allen 1 star because Unilocal does not allow me to give zero. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. The prices are high, and the service is HORRIBLE.

We have bought EA furniture for about 30 years & have never had a problem with their quality or customer service. We recently bought a couch & had some problems which we told our sales associate about. Well, what used to be prompt & courteous service has been reduced to a shambles. It has taken numerous calls to corporate to get our problems resolved. Our associate was no help other than to give us the number for customer service. We have gotten the run around from everyone involved. My opinion, at the least try another EA store. We have decided to take our future business elsewhere, as in a non-​EA place.

I think the quality here is superb. They have recently introduced a lower priced collection that has a more modern and young-person’s style. The store in Clairemont is one of the most popular… I worked with a young ASID certified designer named Joanie there who had spent some time on the east coast as well. She was AMAZING! I like working with EA because she was a stylish DESIGNER and NOT a salesperson. You could really tell the difference. Ask for her…

Quality used to be higher, most recent visit shows that EA is sliding into more of the Jerome’s level, but trying to keep the pricing up.
Be aware that each EA store is independent, so no support from corporate, should you have problems. I bought a rug from them, to surprise my wife. She hated it (was very surprised!), and the return process was a nightmare. (Return attempted within one day, no use, no tags removed, etc.) Finally negotiated store credit towards a more «acceptable» rug, but cash return/​credit was not an option.
Overall, I do not see this location as an option for future business from me.
