Doula Laura Barr

Laura was our doula in September 2015 for the birth of our first baby. I planned to get an epidural so I hadn’t even considered getting a doula for a medicated hospital birth until we took a birth class and learned more about doulas. We interviewed a couple and I spent hours researching bios and profiles online. We couldn’t be happier that we ended up choosing Laura. She is kind, sweet and supportive. I felt safe and secure because she is so knowledgeable. She is very experienced and is also training to be a midwife so she has more technical experience than most doulas. I felt so comfortable discussing all of my fears and thoughts with her and she was amazing at listening and making sure to help us have the exact birth experience we wanted. She spent as much time as we needed preparing for the birth and getting to know us ahead of time. I ended up having to be induced and I was very scared. Laura made me feel so comfortable and in control. I actually ended up being so happy with my birth experience and it was all because of Laura! You will be lucky to get her as your birth doula or midwife! We will definitely be using her for our next birth as well.

Doulas are not just for hippies! No matter what your birth plan is, Laura would be a great addition to support you during your birth. Hiring her was the best thing we did for ourselves leading up to the birth of our son.
We met with Laura a couple of times leading up to our birth to review our birth plan and discuss any questions that we had which helped us feel much more confident about what was to come.
When my water broke but I did not go into labor, Laura came by my house to check on me (mentally!) and discuss options such as going to the hospital vs staying home and ideas for what I could do to help labor get going.
My baby was born 60 hours after my water broke and 30 hours after my contractions started. Through it all, Laura stayed by our side providing support and encouragement to my husband and I. There were moments when I was faced with decisions that I felt too overwhelmed and exhausted to make that Laura helped me work through. Laura always presented all sides of options (interventions and natural) and supported me to make my own decisions, never influencing me one way or another; even when I just wanted her to decide for me!
In addition to the vast knowledge base (she is currently a midwife student) and the warm n’ fuzzies that she provided, Laura made us laugh with her killer sense of humor, gave great massages (she is a former massage therapist!), kept me hydrated, held up my leg up for 4 hours of pushing, and captured some priceless photos.
Laura also came by the week after my son was born to see how I was recovering, how breastfeeding was going and to get some baby cuddles!

My wife told me she wanted to have a doula for the birth of our daughter, and set up a time for us to meet Laura at the mall. I was early and waited outside. Not knowing anything about our soon-​to-​be-​doula, a beautiful and confident woman walked past me. I joked that I could tell her «doula-​force was strong». Sure enough, this was Laura our doula.
From the moment we sat down and spoke with her, I was comfortable. Laura had answers to all of our questions — not in a «know-​it-​all» way, but in a legitimate from the heart listening place. Many times, Laura answered my questions with examples of how she handled the same event in the past. She is so very skilled and knowledgeable. What I like most about Laura, was her how she made me feel so relaxed and at ease.
During my wife’s labor, Laura was a rock of comfort. When things got rough, she was there to reel me in, and bring peace and focus back to my wife (and me).
Laura was there for us before, during, and after the birth of our beautiful daughter. She held our hands and walked us through, reassuring us the whole way. Laura was gracious and supportive and I could not have asked for a more perfect coach.

Where do I begin. Well, Laura is hands down one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. She was a pillar of support for me during labor and nothing I say in this review will do her justice, she’s just that incredible.
I had a 36 hour labor with 7 hours of pushing and she was my rock through every minute of it. I don’t even think any of my family could, or would, do what she did for me.
This lady will work her butt off for you and I LITERALLY recommend her to anyone who’s looking for a doula.
I walked out of my birthing experience feeling supported and amazing. She knows tremendous amounts about birthing and I felt so safe with her by my side. My husband and I felt so lucky to have such a knowledgeable person during this very scary and exciting process. She even travelled up to the OC to be a part of my baby’s birth. She did follow up visits with me and even brought me food (what every new mama needs). I can’t recommend Laura enough. She is a rock star doula and anyone would be incredibly lucky to have her at their birth.
