History
Established in 1999.
In 2000, Do IT Smarter began offering a computer support package which included helpdesk services, on-site services, and remote management services. This type of business support is referred to as managed services.
In 2005, Do IT Smarter began offering its business and technical knowledge to VARs across the country. Do IT Smarter has become the industry leader in transitioning VARs to MSPs. The company provides technical support, sales support, marketing support, and training to help VARs effectively develop a managed service practice.
Through this network of local providers, Do IT Smarter has created a web of trust and influence among customers, local providers and vendors. This network provides access to skilled and knowledgeable partners across the country, allowing our partners to serve larger customers and streamline communication between various IT service companies. Today Do IT Smarter has more than 150 partners in 40 markets across the United States and Canada.

Business Owner
Lane Smith is president of Do IT Smarter. Through programs and initiatives that Do IT Smarter brings to market, Lane is influential in the managed services industry. Lane currently sits on the board of several technology companies as well as the MSP Alliance Board of Advisors in an effort to help educate the reseller community on MSP best practices.
Prior to his role in founding Do IT Smarter, Lane was an Enterprise Solutions Consultant for a large VAR, where he managed enterprise deployments of Microsoft-based email messaging solutions. He began his career as Data System Technician for the United States Navy. After leaving the Navy, Smith worked in various technical positions for companies in the SMB market.
Lane lives with his wife and three children in the Madison, Wisconsin area, where he is active in business and community organizations and currently sits on the Board of Directors of his city’s Main Street Program.
