I came here after being referred by a coworker and all I can say is Marcus is AMAZING! I went in not knowing what I really wanted and was looking for something new. He made excellent suggestions and gave me the best haircut and color EVER! He is very knowledgable in cutting according to face type, coloring hair that fits your skin tone, and knows every hair product out there if you are running to any issues with your hair on a daily basis (ex:frizzy, smoothing, etc). The shop is very clean and pretty. I continue to get compliments on my hair daily and I love it! Marcusgot mad hair skills, LOVE this salon!

I absolutely love the Beauty Bar. Marcus does wonders with not only my hair but also my makeup. My hair has been in it’s best condition ever since Marcus has been styling it!!!

Desiree is AMAZING! I got the bridal hair and airbrush makeup for my wedding in June. It was at a ranch so it was very hot. My makeup and hair lasted all day. I had sooo many compliments on my eyes I felt so good. She had me try something different with my hair because she knew I wouldnt regret it. It was very fitting with my southern belle style dress and the ranch theme. The salon itself is very swanky and clean. Desiree is a very attractive lady inside and out. I would definetly go back again and again!

I visited Desiree at the Hair and Body Bar after never really finding that perfect haircut! I’ve been to several salons around the area, and for what I’ve paid, I was severely disappointed! Someone had recommended Desiree, so I decided to give it a try.
I was very pleased with my experience. Desiree was super nice, very knowledgable about what to do with my thin hair, and gave me a great haircut! I think her prices are reasonable and will definitely be going back.

Marcus did my makeup on my wedding day and it was amazing! I had airbrush foundation done and it stayed perfect all night long — I was so happy with how everything turned out. I didn’t want to have heavy makeup, so we did light eyeshadow and dark lush lashes with pink lips. Originally I had someone else do my hair the day of the wedding and it turned out terrible but I didn’t know what to do. When I was at the Hair and Body Bar getting my makeup done in the afternoon we mentioned that my hairdo was not exactly how I hoped it would look. We asked if there was anything she could do to fix it and she looked at the picture of what I gave the original hairdresser, pulled out the mess of horrible curls, and redid it in 30 minutes. I was SO happy with the result and she saved me from the wedding hair do from hell, which would have been terrible to look at in the wedding pictures afterwards. I would definitely recommend Desi and Marcus for hair and makeup on your wedding day — they were calm and lifesavers in my hours of panic! Two of my bridesmaids now go there to get their hair done as well, because of how well my wedding hair turned out :)

Desiree @ The Hair & Body Bar in Old Town, San Diego is amazing! She did my hair and make up for my husband’s surprise party because I knew I’d be too busy and stressed to do it myself. At first, when I heard that she does the airbrush technique to apply makeup, I was a bit nervous. I thought the make up would be thick and cakey. I was WRONG! It didn’t feel like I had any make up on actually. I received many compliments that night on Desiree’s work and had a few of my girlfriends ask me where I went. This is how I came to call on Desiree. Thank you Hula for your referral!!! Desiree is now my go-​to for special events.

I bought a half off coupon from kgb deals for partial highlights and a cut from the hair & body bar and it was one of the best purchases i’ve ever made! My appointment was with Marcus and he was absolutely fantastic. He was so easy to talk to and gave great advice about what would look best for my cut and color, and he was right! I’m extremely happy with the final outcome and I can’t wait to go back to see him for my next hair adventure. Thank you Marcus :)

Marcus is amazing! I’ve been going to him for over a year now and couldn’t be happier. I used to bounce around from stylist to stylist… but never liked anyone enough to go back again before Marcus. Besides his incredible eye for color and cut he really LISTENS to what I want! He has even emailed me when he sees something he thinks would be flattering! I am now a redhead, something I would never have done if Marcus hadn’t suggested it, and my green eyes really pop. Its amazing. A+mazing. Thanks Marcus!

I have seen Marcus a few times now an will keep coming back! I’m actually here on business but he is well worth the wait. Marcus is VERY knowledgeable and offered me great tips and poiniters on how to make my color last and over all care for my fragile hair! My friend and I came here to get our makeup and hair done (in an updo/​partial updo) for my wedding, and was SO happy we did! I was a little nervous since I am from out of town and didn’t have time to do a trial run, but I trusted what I read /​saw in other Unilocal reviews, and the experience totally lived up to expectations. After looking over a few pictures/​talking about what we wanted, both Desiree and Marcus nailed exactly what we were looking for — a more ‘natural’ look for makeup and a simple, yet sophisticated, look for the updo. Desiree was great in doing my hair more elaborate than I communicated, explaining doing it up in a simple bun was making me look more ‘ballerina’/child like, which I completely appreciated. We ended up having Marcus do my mom and sister’s hairstyles at our hotel/​wedding location as well, which ended up beautiful. I would recommend the salon to any bride looking for hair/​makeup, OR to use as your everyday salon if you live in San Diego — I thought the prices were very reasonable given the great service/​expertise.

Anyhow, I had to go get a haircut and headed out to the girl who knows my hair front and back! She has cut, colored, and styled my hair for about 7 years now! (WOW! One of the longest relationships I have had with a woman! LOL)
I love the fact that I can see Desi and she knows what to do with my hair without me saying a word. She is very cool like that and very creative. I know women like to trust their stylist and very rarely switch. All I have to say is if you need a new hair girl and want someone who knows what they are doing, who you can trust, and who can give you EXACTLY what you want, you need to see my girl Desi at the Hair and Body Bar Salon!
Now, that I got my hair did and I’m looking pretty darn SEXY, where is my party to celebrate my 100^th review!
