This really is as good as it gets. Very responsive and professional. I had them come out and grind a couple stumps and remove an Olive tree. On time and professional when scoping out and quoting the job. On time and professional getting in and out to get the job done. Overall it was a great experience working with these guys!

These guys are awesome — super professional, and lots of experience. They trimmed an overgrown and unhappy tree on our property recently, and we’ve been using them for years. Forrest and Matt were fast, clean, and did an awesome job, as did the arborist and estimator that we worked with before the trimming.

Davey are great — I have a 40 ft pine which was totally neglected and over grown since I got my house 2.5 yrs ago. They shaped it beautifully, put a cable to secure the remaining large branches and tended to an overgrown bird of paradise, a queen palm and a flowering pear (with fire blight). The trimmers do their thing, the treatment of disease guys do theirs and apparently another division does the sdg&e side but it’s all under one roof. Pat, Forrest and the team worked incredibly hard and diligently and were fun and knowledgeable. A pleasure to have. They cleaned up everything as well and the price was very competitive considering how much they did and cleared. I will definitely use them again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

Forrest and his crew did a great job handling a massive Eucalyptus tree. On time and finished without leaving a trace of bark. Price came in lower than other companies. Highly recommended.

For two years in a row our trees have been butchered by Davey… This year I think we would have been better off handing over a chainsaw to Charley Sheen on a bender. No shape… lopped off the tops of a few… skipped a few. The best part is when we asked the crew to look at it and correct a few trees the foreman said… «Awe it’ll grow back and even out after awhile».
Hey the positive is that it entertains a few of the neighbors. Thank you Davey! You are putting smiles on the faces of people in South San Clemente… At least till they «even out». Lol

I chose not to use them because their bid price to cut and remove 3 large trees and grind the stumps was 2.5 times more than competing bids from 3 other contractors for the identical work.
Be smart, always get at least 3 competitive bids for any job.

I would not recommend hiring Davey Tree for small, single-​family tasks. We called Davey’s last winter because of their high reviews on Unilocal.Forrest came out right away to look at our dying tree and the fungal mushrooms growing on a second, seemingly healthy tree. He said that once the mushrooms were growing around the tree, that was a bad sign and even the seemingly healthy tree might be in trouble, and the dying tree was doomed. He recommended cutting down the dying tree and treating the whole yard with fungicide treatment in an attempt to save the other tree. I found him very pleasant, though I did find it strange that he didn’t know what kind of trees we had (we were later told by 2 other tree people that they are both carob trees). Davey’s people came quickly to take out the dying tree, but left a huge mess in our front yard — –the stump and lots of branches, etc. There was a storm that day so they were super busy with other calls, and said they would come back in a few days to remove everything. When they didn’t come for awhile, I called and e-​mailed Forest several times. He finally e-​mailed back to say that they were really busy due to the storm damage, but would come soon. They finally did come take away the branches, but left a lot of the stump in the ground, so there was a pronounced mound in our front yard. We should have demanded that they take out the rest of the stump (we had paid $ 860 for tree removal, hauling, and clean up and $ 340 for stump grinding!), but my husband and I are new owners and lacked the confidence to complain, so we let it go – Forrest or one of his people told my husband that the stump would eventually settle.
Fast forward 6 months, and there was still an ugly mound in our front yard, and nasty fungal mushrooms have started growing all over the stump and spreading in the yard. We called Davey’s to ask them to come look at it, and got no response at all. After several unsuccessful tries (always explaining on the message that they had taken out a tree for us, etc.), we turned to another company. That company immediately told us that the stump removal had not been properly done and that no company should leave a big mound like that in one’s front yard. They told us that the fungus was feeding off the stump and the root in the ground, and was clearly spreading throughout our yard. We tried Davey’s again, but got no response. So we ended up paying another company $ 350 to remove the rest of the stump and trace the root through our yard and remove it to try to kill the fungus. Our other tree is now dying too. I’m not blaming Davey’s for the return of the fungus or the fact that the 2^nd tree is dying — Forrest was correct when he told us 7 months ago that the tree was in trouble — but I think it was really shoddy on their part to charge us $ 340 for stump grinding and $ 180 for fungicide treatment (plus the tree removal $ 860) but then not take out the whole stump and then refuse to call us back and deal with the problem when the fungus began to spread again later due to the stump not getting removed. I think this company is competent in terms of knowing about trees, but too busy to treat small, single-​family customers well. Except for Forrest’s very first visit (which was prompt), I felt throughout that I had to call or e-​mail numerous times to get any response at all, and I find it really troubling that they didn’t do the job properly with our stump but then refused to come back and even look at the situation or even bother to return our calls. I would never hire them again.

I used Davey Tree July of 2014, and they did a fantastic job of removing 1 65 foot pepper tree in our back yard, and several other issues as well, so I knew that I would use them again this year with no hesitation.
Forrest once again came out on A Saturday to give us a consultation. I needed 3 dead trees removed from the parkway as well as removal of a small tree and removal of a dying bush in the front yard that had grown quite large. We had an abundance of ivy growing by leaps and bounds in the back yard and needed a lot of the ivy removed altogether, as well as trimming the ivy on our back fence which had grown so large it was now reaching our patio roof.
Once again, when arriving home, the yard was pristine.
They did a better job than I ever thought was possible and the cost again was more than reasonable.
Forrest and his crew are a great bunch of guys. They are honest, reliable, courteous and professional.
I would always give them a 5 star rating without any reluctance and will of course use them in the future for any and all yard projects that come our way.

Forrest and the crew were great! We had some very sad looking trees at the house we just moved into, they had been terribly pruned in the past and were a mess. The crew did a wonderful job shaping them. Come to find out, an old city tree has termites, with San Diego needing a permit to remove it, but the City will not do the work. Will have Davey Tree take it out when the permit comes.

Recently my grandma had the Davey Tree Expert Company come to her house to remove a dead tree. They did a very good job and gave her hints about watering a larger tree during the drought. We would certainly call them again for service and would definitely recommend them to anyone else looking for great service.

The Davey people, from Jeff who comes out and gives the bid to the office people and the workers, were all very friendly, prompt and professional. The 2^nd time they came to grind the stumps, the guys were running a little late so Jeff called to let us know. The communication with Davey was great. We also had a glitch in the payers name on the invoice sent from the corporation in Ohio, but that ended up alright.
We had called 4 tree companies and Davey was the least expensive. Even half the cost of one of the others.
There was a large tree in back that was dying and had termites and 2 trees in front where the roots were going everywhere and we live in a house on a slab. So they needed to be removed.
We were very pleased with the service and cleanup after.

Davey did everything I asked and gave us some good information for going forward. They met our expectations completely. Their guy on our job was even named Forrest. You gotta take tree advice from a guy named Forrest.

Davey Tree are annoying people. They work for SDGE and they will come on to your property a couple times a year and try to butcher more trees.
This is how they make their money. They try to scare homeowner’s into agreeing to cut more of their trees «because of fire risk».
If you’re not watching they’ll cut more than they said they will. This is how they make their money.
SDGE is complicite in this, they would like to denude your property so that they don’t have to worry about their faulty equipment starting fires.
We need regulations to stop these people.

Forrest arrived early and quickly assessed my tree situation and provided the most reasonable quote. When the tree trimmers came, they were friendly and professional. The trees look good and the crew cleaned everything up.

I contacted Davey Tree Expert Co because of a massive tree that was encroaching on my power and cable lines. The customer service center was swift in calling me back to schedule and appointment and the Davey Tree Expert (Forrest) came out to assess my situation and provide a quote. Forrest was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He provided an expert opinion for all the trees in my yard and offered advice on maintaining them.
Although they may be a little higher in cost, the quality of work they do and the knowledge of their staff is well worth it. In addition Forrest worked with me and provided me a very competitive quote that I was happy with and could working within my budget. They removed the large portion of tree that was the problem and removed another large tree in my yard that was an eyesore. They were very efficient and afterwards ensure that everything was very clean.
I will definitely be using Davey Tree again and I highly recommend them to anyone who has any questions or needs any services from a Tree Expert.

My property has a variety of trees that need regular maintenance and I continue to have great success with Davey. They are professional, thorough and the trees look great. I have complete peace of mind knowing that the trees are being maintained by a Certified Arborist who also holds a valid California Contractor’s License.

So I have too say the District MGR was listening. They called me an provided a very competent advisor. Forrest he listened to my concerns and they performed the work as expected. They do good work and I hope they keep him and I can work with him down the road.
Well after many years with Davey our representative moved on. We got a new one Daniel Kump and both times having to deal with him I felt as though he was doing us a favor in dealing with us. This is after we recommended their service to two of our neighbors. We have had to go back to them and let them know of our disappointment due to our reputation is worth more than our new representative. We also had to cut them loose and find our tree and shrub service elsewhere. I tried to contact the company to switch reps but nothing was ever done to accommodate us.

We have been using Davey Tree to trim our larger trees for probably at least 15 years. Typically we trim once every 2 – 3 years — it isn’t cheap, but when I got my first quote many years ago, everyone wanted to trim our Monterrey Pine right away, and it was in the heat of summer. Davey Tree (Dietrich) was the only company who told us that this particular type of tree should only be trimmed in the Winter or it can get infested with insects that will kill it. They were willing to wait for my business, and have me call them back several months later when it was much colder and the right weather to trim that tree. That won my business right there. They would rather wait and do right by that tree, than try to grab money in the moment. That says a lot about a company.
I’ve gone through a few different reps over the years, and this year met Forrest for the first time and he couldn’t have been nicer. He was polite, professional and understood my tree situation. His crew, James and Dan, are first rate and deserve a raise and a paid vacation for having to deal with my rude and obnoxious neighbor, who verbally harassed them the entire time they were working in my yard. They handled this difficult situation with extreme politeness and a dose of good humor, and they got the job done to boot. Next time I need anything done by Davey Tree, I’ll be asking for James and Dan by name because they are that good (Davey, give these guys a raise and some vacay time, they earned it!). I also had some issues with one of my trees needing some vitamins and treatment for a very specific infestation and for that, Kyle came by the next day to spray my tree. He’s great, also very friendly, professional and a pleasure to deal with. He’s always in a good mood. These guys are first rate and they know their stuff, they’re not some fly by night operation, they really love trees.
