Amazing fries and onion rings the burgers ain’t bad either.

Bummer this place is gone. Especially since I read their «we’re-going-out-of-business-and-fuck-you-Yelpers-who-dissed-us» ad in the Reader last night, showed it to the wife, and we planned on heading out today, the restaurant’s last day according to the ad. Then I realized I was reading a 2 week-​old magazine.
Was the cleanliness up to par? Sometimes, but usually not really. Did the crinkle-​cut fries disappoint? Yeah, and so did the generic-​tasting canned chili. And the booths were very awkward — kind of jammed a little too close together for a fat guy like me — and I figure fat guys like me are the target audience for big greasy burgers.
Despite these flaws, the burgers were damn tasty, and I appreciated all the weird combos they served up. The onion rings were good. Shakes and malts were bomb. $ 8 – 9 for a quality draft like a Stone or Fat Tire in a big ass 32 oz. mason jar was a deal compared to $ 7 or so for a 22 oz. at a crappy chain place. I never had any issue with the service, everyone was always cool to me and my family in the 4 – 5 times we were in over the last year or so.
Hope these guys resurface somewhere in the OB/​Pt. Loma/​Midway area again sometime… might I suggest moving into something little cozier and closer to my place, maybe one of the empty storefronts on Newport where you might capture spillover from that one hole-​in-​the-​wall that also makes really good, super greasy griddled burgers and always has a recockulous line out the door?

I went here with a couple friends only because they offered a burger the size of bowling ball, a basket of chili fries the size of a horse trough and some really delicious malts.
I ordered the Gut Buster meal. Yeah they have something on the menu that literally wants to bust your gut, gross or smart? That’s for you to decide. Still, risking death, I went for it!
It’s a 6lb Burger, 3lbs of chili fries and a 32oz Malt. The burger was juicy, veggies were crisp, the bun was fresh, it also had cheese and bacon (THAT’S SMART!). The Chili fries (Monster mash? I think that’s what they named the fries) were okay, the fries are on par with most diner fries, nothing great but not bad, I didn’t really care for the chili so much, which is kinda disappointing because I really like chili. I ordered a strawberry shake even though they have some really cool malts like peanut butter cup and Oreo. The Malt was very thick and sweet, in other words, it was awesome!
it took me 35 minutes to dust the 11lb meal off and afterward I didn’t know if I should feel proud… disgusted… disgustingly proud… or proudly disgusted.
I ate so much my spine hurt!

What a fun place! I can just see a future episode of Man Vs Food being filmed here if Adam Richmond doesn’t have a heart attack first. Besides having «The Big One» challenge, which consists if a two-​pound burger, plate of cheese fries, and a 32 ounce milkshake visually the place is really appealing.
It’s kind of a cross between The Max from Saved By The Bell and a rockabilly restaurant. They’ve got a bunch of burger creations served to you in the confines of an 50s-​60s dineresque vibe.
The smoker was my tasty burger of choice. It’s smothered in ricotta cheese and hot wing sauce and paired with lemon-​peppered fries for a meal fit for any high cal seeker. If you’re not down with an all beef patty there’s plenty of other options for you to get your unhealthy food fix on as well.
I don’t recommend the place if you’re on a the South Beach diet but, if you’re not health conscious, getready to give your intestines an intense workout and give Daddy-​Os a whirl!

Met up with a few friends and all of our kids at this place. First thing I noticed is that the place is balmy. It’s hot. So hot it kinds of makes it hard to enjoy the meal.
Between the 6 adults we had 5 different burgers … and they were all pretty mediocre. Meat was nothing special — no particular flavor. It’s all about the burger fixin’ here. I had the gonzo burger which was good but hard to enjoy as the thing fell apart before I got a quarter of the way through it.
Nice little beer selection with a 32oz yellowtail at $ 8 it’s not unreasonable.
Best part about the place though is that it’s kid friendly with a small play area equipped with four stationary go-​karts and a few TVs. Just enough to keep the kids busy while the rents wolf a burger and some get in some grown-​up conversation.

After a recent wretched burger experience at Hodad’s, I was urged by Ben G. and Mitch B. to give Daddy-O’s a try. The Daddy-O’s online photo menu reeled me right in, and after a late lunch yesterday I’m pleased to report that this family-​friendly diner serves up a pretty good burger.
The Gonzo burger had my name all over it. Gorgonzola, caramelized onions, bacon – all some of my favorite things. Boyfriend ordered The Greaser burger.
After reading a bunch of Unilocal reviews I’d been nervous about the doneness of the meat. I ordered my burger medium-​rare like I always do and, though it’s not my style, was prepared to send the burger back if I didn’t see a whole lot of pink. (I’ve just been too lenient about overcooked burgers lately, ya know?)
But then I didn’t stick to my game plan! As our super-​nice waitress set our burgers down in front of us she explained that a new cook was being trained and that the kitchen would gladly cook us new burgers if the doneness wasn’t correct. While the waitress waited I took a couple bites: it was more like medium-​well than medium-​rare – no pink to be found – but was so juicy that I said, you know what, no need for a re-​do. My guy agreed.
The Gonzo ($ 9.99) was tasty, though it came with tomato (fine) and shredded lettuce (not a fan of lettuce on burgers) which, according to the menu, shouldn’t have been there.
The Greaser ($ 10.99) was also good, but had I ordered it I would have gotten a bun in place of the Texas toast and passed on the cheese since the 2 fried eggs contributed plenty of liquidity.
Some other notes:
* Also ordered Frings ($ 6), a heaping basket of fries and onion rings. Rings were pretty good. The generic crinkle cut fries, no so much.
* Loved the variety of burger buns on the menu.
* Was impressed by the overall rockabilly décor of the place; it’s really well put together.
A lot of people have something to say about Daddy-O’s prices, so here’s my 2 cents: Bare Back Grill offers a variety of «100% organic beef» burgers with a side of house-​made potato chips… for the same price as Daddy-O’s burgers.
Service from start to finish couldn’t have been better, and that’s why Daddy-O’s gets 4 stars from me.

Daddy O’s from all my accounts seems to be benefitting from the sometimes ridiculously long lines at Phil’s. Now granted this place never made the food network shows and may not be known to those of us who live here and have lived here a while know this is not a downgrade from Phil’s. No it’s not BBQ place, no it’s not fancy schmancy, but they are sure to satisfy. I prefer to eat in as food is always better fresh. Why drive 10 – 15 minutes to have soggy food from the steam.
Crinkle cut fries, lots of onion rings (not super huge where you only get 5 rings, but 20 medium sized, so imo it’s way better than some places that wow you with size and not quantity and quality.
Cheese is not skimped on, and their burgers are fresh, tasty and they have tons of combinations to choose from. Basically they can do whatever you want. A great place to bring the family for a good meal that’s sure to please.

Cool burger, Daddy-​O! Took me awhile to find the joint (finally just looked for the parking lot packed with Harley’s and there it was).
Lots of life in the place, big booths for families, counter seating (which I love) and some race car rides for the kids.
Before I get to hear from the haters that this isn’t the best burger in the world (I’m from Hamburg so I KNOW what hamburgers are supposed to taste like, derp) or how some effn place in Kansas is sooo much better, I suggest you give it a try. Three trips for me so far and I have not been disappointed.
WHEN YOU GO– The Smoker and Daddy-​O are both winners.duh. The Smoker is loaded with jalapenos, enough for you to fondly remember Daddy-O’s the next morning (DAMN YOU, DADDY-O’s! DAMN YOU!!!). Yes, I ate another one on the next trip and it is def my go to here.
Shakes are amazing! Decent beer menu as well. They also have a 2 ½ lb monstrosity «Food Challenge» type burger that you have to eat along with a buttload of fries and a shake within something crazy like 30 minutes. If you do you get a T shirt and your pic on the wall of fame. If you fail, you have to wear a tiara and get your pic on the wall of shame! Lots more pics on the shame wall as you can imagine.
Get to Daddy-O’s. I know what I’m talking about being from Hamburg and all…

As much as I love burgers, this place was just all right. It didn’t impress me.
At first, I wanted to build my own burger, but I realized it was going to cost me about three dollars more if I just ordered a burger that was already on the menu. I ordered the Daddy-​O well done on a ¼th patty and a chocolate chip milkshake.
When I received my burger, it was good, but it was a little burnt. The vegetables were fresh. However, my milkshake did not have any pieces of chocolate chip. It did, but it all sank in the bottom. It does not have a lot of appetizers only cheese sticks, jalapeño poppers, onion rings, and fries.
The ambiance was nice. The place was clean and not crowded. I guess I need to come here again and try another burger so it can have four stars.

We went on a saturday around 3ish and it wasn’t too busy, but busy enough… which was great because the place is pretty small (but a good decent size) LOL that make any sense? anyway, you know what I mean. But this place is right by the sports arena, so imagine trying to eat at this place on a game day. yea… no bueno.
Walked in and seated ourselves (per instructions on the sign at the entrance), menu was already on the table in the blue ketchup/​mustard holder thingy, and was promptly greeted by our server.
Hubby got the DADDY O (½ lb burger with American Cheese) Hamburger with chili added to it, and I got THE BARON hotdog (¼ lb hot dog with saurkraut)
We also shared an order of FRINGS (fries + onion rings) — it’s great to share between four people
Verdict:
DADDY O hamburger: two thumbs up and a belly rub +1 Star
THE BARON: two thumbs up and a lip lick +1 Star
Customer Service: our server was fast, friendly and helpful (cause it was our first time there and she was able to answer all our questions) +1 Star

The FRINGS were awesome! They seasoned them with salt, pepper, and some kind of zest flavor. We couldn’t finish the whole basket cause it was ALOT so we took the rest to go. I don’t know what kind of batter they use for their onion rings… but they were still crispy a couple hours later. BOMB!
They don’t have a dessert menu, but they have a great Milk Shake menu to choose from if you have enough room in your belly.
On the back of their menu there’s something called THE CHALLENGE ($ 32, but FREE if you finish the whole thing in 45 minutes): 2 lb hamburger decked out, an order of Frings, and a milk shake.
If you’re on a budget, your best bet is to make your own burger at home or go to McDonalds. But if you want to treat yourself, then head to Daddy O’s. Their kids menu prices aren’t so bad, so that kinda makes it easier for people with little bambeezy’s.
Will def be back, but the next time we’re bringin’ our lil bambeezy’s and see how they like this joint AND because we got a coupon to save $$ on our next visit.

Yah, I luv burgers… and I visited this place for the first time about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been back 4 times now…
The service has always been good and they’re very friendly! Sometimes they could be a little slow to refill the drinks but that’s understandable when it gets busy…
Their onion rings are pretty good but their fries are just okay… take note that their large order of frings is good enough to feed 4 people… my bro and i made the mistake of ordering the large and we only ate half of it…
I luv that they serve hot dogs too… I’ve had the Gamer… which is basically a plain hot dog on a pretzel bun (which is delish!!!) and u can add whatever toppings you want (extra cost tho)… and I’ve also had the BFD (which stands for Big Frickin Dog) which is a half-​pound hot dog… and that was pretty tasty too… i had that with cheese and chili… I’d recommend not getting the chili though… i luv a good chilli and cheese dog but this isn’t the place to get it…
Now for their burgers… the meat is charbroiled to perfection… and then different combinations of toppings are added giving each burger their unique names… i’ve had the Smoker and the Deuce, which is similar to but makes the big mac look like a slider…
i haven’t tried anything else but i’m definitely gonna come back to try their milkshakes and other burgers…

Decided to try it and ordered a Yodler and a Smoker with a side of rings.
The server was very helpful, food came out quickly. Easy parking.
The Smoker was MUY CALIENT. E1…if I could make an upside down exclamation point, I would. But it was also very tasty. The Yodler was awesome in the pretzel bun. Rings were fine.
I think it is a decent value for the food you are getting. Sure this is not the cheapest burger place… but $ 3.00 rings, bottomless sodas, and great burgers with that much selection, is worth it to me. It was fun trying the different burgers and I would like to visit it again to try one of the other creations.

C’mon with 5 big screens, plenty of seating, beer and wine this place would make a really great dive bar. Unfortunately it’s not a bar but a burger joint. It’s too bad that the burgers really didn’t live up to the décor.
With this being my first time here I decided to go with the Daddy O’s combo, burger with American cheese, fries and a drink. It cost about 9 bucks. The menu stated that all burgers are cooked medium rare. That would have been awesome but this burger was pretty much cooked well done and dry as a bone. Maybe the cook thought that the more red onions he put in the burger the better. Not impressed by my choice from the menu.
My wife ordered the Monster Mash which is fries covered with cheese, ground beef, and some sort of sweet and sour special sauce. She got one with chilli on it instead but our server was nice enough to take it back and correct it. You have to understand I normally don’t ever send food back. She should have kept the one with the chilli because that tangy sauce just threw the whole thing off.
I really had high hopes for this place. Too bad the food was disappointing.

Few people have complained about prices? Really people?
Order at any fast-​food chain is cheap, sure. and Daddy-O’s is few dollars more than your
…“other burger”. .
I don’t eat a lot of beef. But I’d rather consume premium beef over processed meat and processed cheese any day.
Daddy-O’s burgers have unique flavors with many breads to pick from (including a pretzel –bun-​) with wholesome ingredients.(hormone and antibiotic free premium beef) or you can build your own burger.
My burger was delicious and juicy… the bun was soft and fresh. My fries were not at all greasy, crisp and seasoned just right.
Staff is upbeat and courteous. the restaurant is 50’s/Rockabilly themed décor… the music isn’t blaring so loud that you can’t carry a conversation.

Anyone that has brie on a burger and big chili dogs is a destination for me. Cruised down in the MINI (not cool enough for a hot rod) and ordered the Yodler burger which is served on a pretzel bun with brie cheese, spicy raspberry chipotle sauce, spinach and tomatoes and the Blue Flamer, a classic chili cheese dog with onions. We dirtied the Yodler with some hot slabs of bacon and were definitely satisfied with every bite.
If you appreciate a good chili dog like me you share the love for a hot dog that has the delicious SNAP when you bite into it. The chili was flavorful, delicious and to me makes or breaks a chili dog and Daddy-O’s definitely «makes it».
Also had a basket of onion rings and heavily seasoned fries (my personal preference) served with ketchup and a side of ranch. I love places that serve ranch immediately without asking, they know better!
To wash it down we delighted ourselves with a Strawberry/​Chocolate shake and a White Chocolate shake. Both were very good and I agree with other reviews that they were more on the milky side but still delicious. The white chocolate tasted like an intense vanilla shake… which was good because I love vanilla.
The kids spot is cool if you got ‘em, restaurant is very clean, TVs all around playing random stuff. Maybe the same concept on all the TVs would help the theme a little bit more. Its a little dark by the windows, maybe some neon lights or something can help that area out. Black, white and red is my favorite color combination and this place is covered in it. Parking right in front, cool tatted waiters with a little bit of swagger (not grody like another burger joint…) and a convenient off the freeway location makes this a new recommendation on my list!

Sideburns, Chuck Taylors, tattoos and rock/​punkabilly — is this what awaits me at Daddy-O’s? Well, let me put it this way, they were showing «Beach Blanket Bingo» on one of their monitors when we sat down. Top THAT Hodad’s! (Full disclosure. I know that Frankie Avalon was in «Beach Blanket Bingo» ONLY because I would catch my Muddah watching that dreck from time to time when I was a young youngster. By the way, no one actually played bingo in that movie, as far as I can recall. G…28.) Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know — the food.
I ordered The Greaser. Imagine two pieces of bread that could double as French Toast. A fried egg. Two pieces of bacon. A slice of swiss cheese. A meat patty and then hash browns. True to its name, it was the greasiest damn thing I’ve ever had. Despite this, it was damn good. I could barely get my mouth around it (which is something that I’ll never hear a woman say about me, if you know what I mean). The thing was ten bucks (!), to boot.
It came with fries which were ok until all I could taste was the seasoning which became overpowering.
The chocolate chip shake (5 bucks!) was decent. I wish it had been more thick ala Hodad’s. But I especially wished that it had not been made with an entire bag of chocolate chips. Next time, I’ll just eat it straight from the bag.
My eating companion had the Daddy-​O which I think he enjoyed when he wasn’t digging for nostril gold. He was able to say (while spitting out small chunks of food while he talked) that Hodad’s was much better.

Aside from having a winner with The Greaser, I don’t think I’ll be returning due to the prices. Instead, I’ll head over to Hodad’s where the quality and prices are much better.

I’m gonna have to thank Ben G again for sending me a link to this place. They got us with their full picture menu. When I clicked on that, it was a done deal.
Here it is again…
This place is new, about 2 months now, and I like them already. The owner/​manager is super cool and definitely cares about his restaurant. That already is a plus.
The burgers: in a nut shell, are good, not great, but have the potential for sure. On this trip, we tried 3 burgers, all ½ pound. A bit concerning is that they didn’t ask how we wanted them done, thus were all served well done, and that resulted in a slightly dry burger. The Smoker was probably my favorite, in that it had a ton of flavorful toppings all centered around the jalapeño theme. It was definitely tasty, but the burger itself got lost in all the toppings. The Gonzo and the Honky Tonk were also pretty good.
The hotdogs: We tried the Blue Flamer (cheese, onions, and chili) all served in a pretzel bun. It was a no fail combo and it did not disappoint.
Shakes: I prefer mine a bit thicker and this batch seemed heavy on the milk, not the ice cream.
So the food is good, the service is great, and it’s definitely worth a try. I’d go back to try the Greaser alone. Hell, if you’re gonna do it, go big, right?

The girls wanted a cheap spot for happy hour. I’ve been scoping out this place cuz it’s close to work and saw some good deals on Unilocal.
It’s kinda lame like one reviewer already said, «Take a seat and order at the counter.» Huh? The waitress did offer to take our order at our table because we weren’t immediately going to the counter, but that was just because we were waiting for someone else.
Ambiance– the booths are HELLA CLOSE together… not much breathing room for someone big boned. The little play area is cute for the kids. They can sit in a car that has a tray on it so they can eat there.
We all pretty much got the $ 8 Daddy O Happy Hour meal (burger, fries & pop). The burgers are exactly like another review said, nothing special about the patty, but they are huge.
I’ve had my fair share of fries, as most Americans, and I have nothing special to write about theirs. They were edible, but not anything out of this world.
They screwed up two orders because their computer system didn’t spit out the order to the kitchen. They offered to give us a free milkshake, but we already paid for one that they missed so they gave us cookies. I know they just opened up on Jan 31, but by Feb 12 you would think they have the basic computer/​register setup.
I have to say the PB milkshake was quite tasty. Their hot dogs looked good too.
Basically, if I feel brave enough to try a hamburger with peanut butter on it I may return, but with Gaglione Bros around the corner, if I want to be bad I’ll be heffin’ a cheesesteak instead.

It’s a big deal in the crowd I run with when a new burger joint opens in the neighborhood! Everyone was abuzz when the news traveled around among the housewives and unemployed, that there would be a new place to check out soon! With a fond patience, we waited until this very weekend and voila: Daddy-O’s GRAND OPENING!
They had a soft one on Saturday but officially it opened today-​01/​31/​10. The verdict: pretty good food. Not cheap though-​the basic Daddy-​O burger is $ 6 and that’s just for ½ lb. patty on a bun-​no french fries included. That would be extra. It was big and juicy and I liked the bun. Originally my son wanted breakfast but we got there past 11 a.m. so they weren’t serving it. I did see someone eating an immense pancake and they serve 3 different kinds here-​all named after hot rod cars.
Also «The Cobra” — a deep fried french toast coated with cinnamon and brown sugar sounds yummy! House wines and draft or bottle beers also available. A few different kinds of salads and some delicious-​looking milk shakes!
Order your food up at the counter with the cashier. They get your name and call it out when it’s ready. The help on opening day seemed a little preoccupied but that’s to be expected. Nice interior with several mounted televisions and a couple of Fender guitars up on the wall. Kind of reminds me of the Corvette Diner-​but at a much less frantic level. Kind of noisy rockabilly music played over the din of excited diners trying the place out for the first time.
White walls, red and silver trim. High-​tech but old-​fashioned malt shop vibe. The booths are comfy but the place is not big. I hand it to this restaurant to take a leap of faith and open something like this in the current economic climate. I can see teenagers coming here on dates and the hot rod and classic car aficionado’s hanging out too.
It is a nice addition to Midway Towne Center-​giving new variety to the Fish Taco’s and Philly Cheesesteak places just around the corner. Welcome to Daddy-O’s!
