How impossibly easy would it be to save a couple of soda cans or plastic water bottles and drop them off every weekend on your way to Church? And how awesome would it be that, in the process of recycling, your donation would help to save children in Third World countries? That is what D.U.H. is all about-(D is for Desperate, U=Under-privileged, and H stands for Hungry.) A Ministry group that evolved from the mind and heart of Tara Paul, as a way of turning the proceeds from recyclables into life-saving food, medicine, and faith for poor children abroad. D.U.H. is out every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Launch Pad-in the parking lot behind Trader Joe’s and Von’s in Liberty Station. They stand ready and willing to collect your aluminum cans, plastics, and glass from The Rock Church members and others from the local community. I am personally poor enough that I save all my own recyclables and turn them in for money but always set aside a certain amount to donate to D.U.H. The recycled beverage containers are then sold for money that is used to sponsor children via the World Vision Hope Child Program that provides clean water, nutritious food, education, medical care and love to needy young ones. Partnering with World Visions also ensures that the donations utilize a Christian Humanitarian outlook and introduces the children to Christ’s love for them. 80% of the monies raised goes to saving the lives of under-privileged and desperately poor children who live in severe need of assistance. 20% of the proceeds go towards support of outreach ministries at The Rock Church-which also has other ministries that help the down-trodden citywide. Tara Paul-the Ministry Leader who started D.U.H. was the recipient of The Rock Hero Award in February 2010 for her dedication and hard work. It really is a no-brainer-serve God, support the outreach ministries of The Rock Church, help to save the environment, and also save the lives of needy Third World children – ALLINONEBAGONTRASH! DUH!
