Convoy Tofu House

First time trying this place after deciding not to try to go back to the other tofu house down the street on convoy, too.
My husband I liked it a lot. I had the pork soft tofu soap mild and he had the sausage and ham; both very delicious. They don’t give you all you want eggs to put in the tofu soup but they do provide complimentary barley Korean tea that is very refreshing (loved it!). The place was nice and clean. Roomy and nicely decorated; makes for better appetite. The parking wasn’t bad when we came for lunch on a Sunday.
Highly recommend and will return.

I love the variety of food here, and service is great! They have some of the best banchan I’ve ever had at a Korean restaurant, and were very accommodating to our large group (8 people), during lunch on a Thursday. Just be wary of the parking situation, since it is a small shopping center on Convoy Street.

I was watching a Korean variety show, and there was a scene where two friends go and eat naengmyeon. I thought to myself, «how can people enjoy cold noodles?»
The parking in the little plaza sucks. If you can’t find parking, maybe you’ll get lucky on Armour St, or on Convoy street next to Boba Time.
There’s a lot of seating, and the waitresses were pretty attentive. Especially since I proclaimed it was my first time and I was super excited.
The naengmyeon here was was so good! The broth, after you add a little bit of vinegar and mustard, is tasty and refreshing. The noodles are so filling and everything else in the bowl is made to compliment the dish nicely.
The banchan is plentiful and delicious too.
TLDR; Get the naengmyeon here. It’s awesome.

This is the best Korean tofu soup place in SD, hands down. I haven’t found any place better + the side dishes are plenty and just as well-​made. Happiness.

Good place to come if you are looking for some Korean food. Its not the Korean all u can buffet, but I like the joint been coming here for few years and staff has always been friendly. I generally get Kalbi and seafood tofu combo. I also enjoy the side dishes that come with the meal and generally seconds on the side dishes. Good place for good food.

This place has got grumpy Ajummas and watery soondubu. Was not given the free pitcher of barley tea that some reviews mentioned — do you have to ask for it instead of water?
The tofu soup: Got a soodubu #2 regular. Its was pretty mild tasting and the meat was chewy. The side dishes here were pretty average and slightly dull. prices were slightly higher than what i expected.
Mandu appetizer was average.
Overall, was really disappointed with the soup broth flavor — you can tell that it was lacking the proper ingredients cooked slowly for a tasty broth. For a place thats named for the dish, its pretty sad that the dish was so weak.

This is my favorite spot to get soondubu (soft tofu stew)! Out of all of the other Korean restaurants around Convoy that serve soondubu, Convoy Tofu House’s soondubu is always more flavorful but not too overbearing or salty.
The ladies who work here are always attentive as well.

First time here, was craving some hot soup. I placed an order for pick up and the lady said it would take about ten minutes for the mushroom soft tofu stew to be ready. Arrived 15minutes later and my food was ready to go. They put everything in a box for me to carry. Really love the friendly service I received and the food was amazing and very flavorful!!! Also love how they prepacked some to go sides for me too! Def. Coming back again on my next lunch break !

Waitress had really really bad attitude. Banchan were not good. Bimbimbap was a joke… Shouldn’t even be called that on the menu lol. Skip this restaurant, not worth your time

Decent food for decent price.
Came here on a weekend around 6/​7pm and there was plenty of seating available in the restaurant. The place is pretty spacious so definitely do-​able for large parties.
They’re popular for the tofu soup selections and I would definitely agree. We got the mixed tofu soup + bibimbap combo for $ 12.99 which I originally thought was a good deal. Then the bibimbap came out and I realized it was not so much a good deal. The bibimbap was literally just a couple strands of vegetables (really small portion) with some oil and sesame seeds. I drenched it in their hot/​bbq sauce they give you and it made it better. The tofu soup was solid and they give you a fresh cracked egg to put inside — I like the Tofu House near Tapex better in the aspect that they just give you eggs on eggs on eggs. Overall, the soup was very tasty but I wish they had given us more meat inside vs. tofu. The ratio was like 90% tofu, 10% mixed meats. lame.
We also ordered the beef bulgogi which was a fair portion for $ 15.99 and came with delicious carmelized onions cooked with the meat too — much appreciated. The beef bulgogi was decent, sweet and salty, a little bit dry and not as thinly cut as I wanted but definitely edible.
Their side dishes are also okay, nothing too special, although I will admit that the kimchi is pretty bomb. I don’t usually like kimchi but I found myself going back to this side dish a lot.
Overall, a decent Korean food fix place. at least I think theyre trying to be Koraen, our table also had a menu with sushi rolls which was awkward/​confusing but you do you Convoy Tofu House!

This was our first time coming here, the waiter and I assume the owners who were in the front also welcomed us and sat us down. There were a few more couples and they seemed to be enjoying their meals too, we ordered hot pots; one the Seafood SoftTofu Stew&Bibimbap and the other was the Korean Sausage Stew. The KS Stew had these Korean sausage pieces that were pretty good but I think they had not only meat but maybe rice and or rice noodles so it is a different texture than the typical sausage. I ordered the Seafood ST Stew in ‘regular’ but I would recommend a medium spicy for a little bit more kick (I like my stews spicy). This also came with an egg that you crack and poach in the stew since it comes to the table almost boiling. The veggies and pickled sides were very good too especially the kimchi which the waitress graciously brought more for us.
It was a nice meal, we would definitely come again.
Also we noticed that they share a space with the Sushi place next door with a bamboo (?) fence splitting the rooms; they had a sushi menu which we assumed is from the sushi side from next door.

Yes, I am a fan of Convoy Tofu House.
I always order the Kimchee soup with pork and that comes with rice and vegetables. The food is always good and I’m never disappointed.

Felt the hankering for some spicy soup with rice. What better than to go hit up a Tofu House and get the best of both. Plus it’s kind of rainy and what else is better for a rainy day than some spicy tofu soup.
When we arrived, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. Maybe about two other parties both quietly enjoying their meal. The waitresses were also to the side of the restaurant having their lunch. It was a large place but seemed too empty with just two parties. But with hunger on our minds, the emptiness didn’t really change our minds to another place.
We were seated immediately next to this neat coffee vending machine. Just put in a quarter and a cup pops out. You get to choose between three types of drinks: a milk coffee, a dark roast of job’s tears (?), and I think a hot chocolate? It was interesting to see the job’s tears coffee. Kind of strange but funny nonetheless.
The waitress came back to take our order and served side dishes, our beer and water politely. Within ten minutes food came. It was piping hot, boiling over deliciously! I ordered the kimchi spicy soft tofu soup. My sister got the beef tripe soup. Her husband got a vegetarian tofu soup. Everything was a huge portion with a side of rice. Very tasty soup with so much flavor from the kimchi and the spices. It was wonderful. Just have to be careful to not burn your taste buds because everything is literally boiling when you get it and you can’t wait to dive in, but seriously — wait cause your tongue will thank you. I have learned my lesson haha.
About 15 minutes into eating and talking, a large party of 15 – 20 people came in. Surprisingly the entire left side of the restaurant was able to accommodate for the large group of people. So if you’re thinking about bringing a lot of people to this place, don’t fret because there is space. It might get busy when it’s towards the later hours since it does seem to open to 10PM and that’s when the nightlife starts bumping.
Overall, this place is super flavorful and has plenty of options for meat eaters and vegetarians. The atmosphere can go from ambient to pretty bustling quickly so golden star for being so flexible.

This place is really solid. Safe and reliable spot to get you Korean kimchi tofu stew fix on. And if you’re like me, that craving hits you like a bag of bricks.
The stews are really good. Good spice and lots of protein.
The place could put out more ban chan (Korean appetizers). Other places provided several more. But it’s okay because the staff is really nice about refilling your empty plates if you want more.
The staff has always been so sweet every time I’ve gone. I feel like I’m eating at my aunt’s place.

Great place to come for korean!
Got the black goat soup. Came bubbling hot and with lots of chunks of stewed goat in it. The soup had a great balance of spiciness and depth of goat-​y flavor. The goat was nicely gamey and tender. The portion size was quite big, so i got some to take home for dinner!
The banchan was decent. Nothing really stood out and the freshness of the vegetables help cleanse your palettes and tongues after several spoonfuls of spicy korean soups. Their iced barley tea was good as well. Nice barley flavor, but i wish i ordered it hot if that was possible.
Atmosphere was great on a sunday. They had a couple large tvs displaying the football game.
Food did take a while to get to us, but the restaurant was pretty busy.

On a Saturday night, this restaurant was not as packed as I expected it to be, which was a good thing considering our group ended up being 13 people instead of 8. The staff was super accommodating despite this mix up and we were all able to order what we wanted.
Cam and I opted to get the tofu stew + bibim bap combo, but if you’re not a fan of cold vegetables, just get the tofy stew. The bibim bap is not the same as the hot pot bibimbap. While we weren’t expecting a full portion of the hot pot bibimbap, I was expecting at least a small version, and definitely not the bowl of cold vegetables that arrived. But I digress on my complaint — the staff was super nice and there were plenty of other foods to eat.
Side Dishes. I really loved most of the side dishes that came with our meal. Specifically the kimchi, spicy fish cake, and the sweet marinated potatoes. Scotty really liked the seaweed, but because of all the other food, I didn’t get a chance to try it.
Dumpling Soft Tofu Stew. Yum!!! I normally don’t like the dumplings from Korean restaurants, but these dumplings were actually pretty good. Cam and I split this so we only got the regular spicy level, but I definitely could have gone with the spicier level. I wasn’t a fan of the mushrooms, but Cam happily ate those for me.
Beef Bulgogi. This was pretty standard, but definitely came with a bigger portion than at other restaurants. I liked that the dish was not overwhelmed by a ridiculous amount of onions. Definitely worth getting.
Spicy Kimchi Pancake. Channa ordered this, and I was a little wary at first because of all the green onions, but I closed my eyes and was pleasantly surprised. It’s like a spicy version of okoy, but flat. For those of you without a Filipino background, it’s like deep fried vegetables. The pancake also comes with a vinegar sauce, which went with everything really well.
Overall, this is definitely a place to come visit. The wait staff was extremely accommodating towards our group, despite the fact we under booked our reservation. Everything came out really quick and they even delivered it to the correct person with little confusion.

I love Korean food and in an attempt to not be be gluttonous and hit up yet again an all you can eat KBBQ place, the boyfriend and i opted to try Convoy Tofu House because how can 4 Unilocal stars and 600+ reviews be wrong. Well it can be. I hate to be giving this place only two stars because the ladies there were nice, but the food was at best, mediocre. It’s definitely cheap to eat here but I would much rather pay a bit more for great tasting and quality of food. You get what you pay for definitely is what you get here.
The bulgogi was decent in size, but was dry, and was not in typical rich tasting korean marinade. We also ordered the jap chae (clear noodles with beef and veggies) and that was decent. Again something in taste was lacking. And lastly we a seafood tofu stew and yhe broth was lackluster in flavor not even spicy, just salty.

Great lunch specials here. You can choose any type of Tofu stew for $ 8.20. It comes with the regular array of Korean side dishes and rice. Service was excellent. Speedy, friendly, and attentive.
Today, I ordered the Mixed tofu soup (beef, clams, shrimp and mushrooms). Very filling meal. The soup flavor is on par with tofu shops in OC, LA and the Bay Area.
$ 8.90 after tax. Very good lunch variety. Will be back again.
Pro-​tip: Parking lot had plenty of spaces around 11am, but I hear it could become crowded during regular lunch rush (12noon — 1pm)

This is definitely in my top 5 places to eat. Everything is always fresh, tasty, and served at its highest quality. Plus it’s CHEAP!
My favorite thing to order is the dumpling tofu stew. They have different levels of spice with a range from white (not spicy) to spicy. That is normally about $ 10. Which is a great price for the soup and all of the little appetizers they bring out prior to your food for free!
They also have a sushi place attach to the restaurant so if you want you can order from both. Since it’s their anniversary year of service (I’m not sure how many years off hand) on certain days of the week they have discounts for students and military personnel.
As for service it’s kind of a hit or miss. I’ve had more good experiences than bad. Plus working in the food industry myself, I can understand when you’re at a certain point in the day where you’re so tired everything that a customer asks you gets you annoys you buuut at the same time that’s no excuse for an attitude. But I’m still giving five stars just because I love this place so much.
Overall it’s a great place to go if you want consistently tasty food at a reasonable price.
