Comfort Inn & Suites San Diego – Zoo SeaWorld Area

My family just spent 3 nights there and had an overall good experience and we would go there again!
The rooms were clean and the furniture was in decent shape. The sink/​refrigerator area was pretty cramped for space. The bedding was nice and the couch bed was… ok (although I didn’t have to sleep on it myself!)
The free breakfast was excellent food although ridiculously crowded. Lots of choices, hot scrambled eggs & sausage, waffles, and more. However, the breakfast room is not nearly big enough for the number of hotel guests — it was an absolute zoo eating in there and we were lucky to find a place to sit. It’s kind of like shopping at Walmart on the day before a holiday. Just be prepared for that.
The hotel pool was pretty nice — clean, decent shape.
I thought it was awfully lame that they were charging $ 10.95 for parking each night, especially since the parking spots were CRAMPED! It took a lot of maneuvering just to get in and out of the parking spots.
The location was great — only 10 minutes away from Sea World, Old Town San Diego, and the beach.
The staff were all very nice.
Overall, it was worth staying at for the price, cleanliness, and breakfast and we would go there again.

It’s an OK hotel for the price. Breakfast buffet overs a wide variety. The shuttle service we used to and from the marine Corp depot was always on time and very convenient; also working around our schedule. My biggest downside is the inside is actually pretty outdated, and there is a lot of humidity in the rooms, causing a very funky moldy smell.

We stayed here for a few nights during our trip to SD. Some good things, some not so good things.
Good
— Decent rate. Memorial Day weekend, 3 nights for about $ 120.00 a night. Compare that to my friend who tried to get a hotel on a Saturday, same day, in SD and paid $ 200.00 to stay at some ghetto motel in El Cajon! I would say that $ 120.00 a night was very fair!
— Location. Right off the 8 and Taylor street. Right behind Hunters Steakhouse. Easy to get to.
— Staff. Friendly during check in, maids would say hello in the hallway etc.
— Free Breakfast. Cereal, pastries, eggs, sausage and the best part, waffle stations. They had 6 of them, so making a waffle was never a problem.
— Free wifi. Never had any issues connecting, and signal strength was great the whole time here.
Not So Good
— Parking. Meh. $ 10.95 a day (must be a weekday rate… I was in the lobby on Saturday and heard that it was $ 13.00 a day to a new arrival.). Spots are tiny, too! Luckily, we always found a spot, but still, teeny tiny spots!
— Rooms. Eh. just average. The bed was kind of bouncy, but at least the pillows were very soft and plush. Bathroom was just ok. Shower pressure wasn’t the best. A little bit older rooms.
— Breakfast area. Freaking zoo! Nowhere to sit except for the last day, inconsiderate people just getting in the way and not paying attention to their surroundings etc.
— Lower cost place=lower class individuals. Saw some semi shady folks lingering in the parking lot and smoking cigs outside. Non threatening, but trashy looking.
Overall, it was an ok stay. Would I stay again? Maybe. It wasn’t horrible, but it was far from a «great» hotel stay. It is what it is. 3 stars. A-​OK.

Stayed at this hotel for a party weekend. We had 4 rooms total and the staff was so nice and accommodating. Within 5 minutes of being in our room, they called to the room to check on us and ensure everything in the room looked ok. The staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was surprisingly good, more than just the expected continental breakfast. Pool was small, more for kids and families. They accommodated us for taxi cabs to gas lamp and old town. I would recommend this location

I recently stayed overnight at this hotel. I was in town for the Beyonce Formation concert and me and 2 other girls decided to stay here because it was pretty close to the Qualcomm Stadium. and it was simply nice. cozy beds & very clean. I would definitely stay here again. I would give it 5stars but they gave us the wrong room which was a downgrade and later that night we were able to get the room we paid for but it was an overall good stay

I wanna comment with the customer service I received from this place. I went to sandiego for a weekend coming from la. When I arrived I found out that I have booked the room for the wrong date. Front seat helped me out and found me a room to stay. For me that was the best thing they did because they accommodated me.

My family and I stayed at this hotel when we took a vacation to visit Sea World and we were satisfied with our stay. The rooms were spacious and very clean we had no problems with anything in the room. We had a nice view of the pool area that was clean and had comfortable looking pool furniture. Location is convenient near freeway and few minutes away from restaurants, mall, movie theater, convenience store, etc. They have a steakhouse restaurant literally next door to hotel which I plan to visit next time I stay at this place. I definitely recommend this hotel good price and hotel staff is friendly. The hotel is very clean and carpet smells good (recently shampooed smell) so that sold me to stay here next time I am in the area. Don’t forget this place hooks you up FREE BREAKFAST in the morning and they have FREE HI-​SPEED WIFI.

Reading the reviews of this hotel, I’ll admit that I had some initial concerns. I figured Comfort Inn & Suites would be a «get what you paid for» experience. We returned from our trip last night and I knew I had to write a review about our experience.
We arrived and checked in, during the check-​in process the front desk was very helpful, both women were going through the process and explaining everything to the guests; they asked each customer if they wanted to park (for a fee) or use street parking and when the guests asked questions like «Will it be a problem finding a spot?» «Is it safer/​more secure?» They answered honestly, there was no pressure to pay the $ 10/​night parking fee. I chose to park on property and never had any trouble finding a spot (we arrived Saturday evening and left on Monday morning), there was a parking garage and spots around the building. The spaces are small though, I have a Toyota Corolla and I fit, but if you had a bigger van or truck, it would be a tight squeeze. We asked at check-​in where there was to eat and they were able to provide a nice list of places nearby, categorized by type of food. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The room was very nice, it was clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We chose the 1 king bed room since it was just my daughter and I. The room had plenty of space. I was also incredibly happy to find 3 lamps, each with 2 electrical outlets around the room so I didn’t have any issues charging electronics. The curtains were fine, I never had an issue with light getting in in the morning. Room came with an iron and hair dryer. The toilet/​shower was behind a door from the sink/​vanity area which would have been really handy if there had been multiple people getting ready. I asked the front desk one night for additional towels and they were brought up quickly. The wifi was free and worked very well, we were able to watch YouTube with no issues at all.
We chose to eat breakfast at the hotel both mornings and we were not disappointed. Breakfast included: Toast, bagels, fruit, cereal, waffle making station, yogurt, juices; on the first morning they had biscuits and gravy, the next was scrambled eggs and sausage patties. There are 2 seating areas and while they are small, we were always able to find a place to sit (we arrived both mornings around 8:30am) and I didn’t notice anyone being unable to find a seat. One evening we went down to the pool, there are plenty of places to sit/​lay down and they aren’t the cheap plastic chairs I’m used to at hotel pools. there are towels provided at the pool area. My daughter had a wonderful time.
The main complaint I read about was the noise, and yes, you can hear the doors closing, if people are talking loudly in the next room and showers. I didn’t hear anything from outside. Personally, this wasn’t a deal breaker. If I visit San Diego again, Comfort Inn and Suites will absolutely be somewhere I’ll stay again.

Where to begin? … Room was moderately clean, but there’s a weird smell. The hall was noisy with people running around early in the am. Mattress was good. The tv remote had issues and the tv is small. They replaced the remote, but why did we have to ask? Housekeeping should be checking periodically. The breakfast had a good variety, but staff did not keep the area clean. There was food spilled in many places on the counters and floors. Staff saw it (we pointed out a slip hazard) but they ignored us as if it wasn’t their job, I spite of the cloth and paper towels in his hands. Parking is a serious mess, if your not in a compact, good luck. Older hotel, probably needs a rehab.

Good.
Large clean room. Fantastic bed, slept like a baby. Was next to freeway but very quiet and clean. Free breakfast just get there early. Great staff and maids were awesome.
Bad.
Parking is a joke but all mission Valley hotels in this $ range have no parking. Only two small dressers for clothes. Breakfast is a zoo. Get there early.
Stay here if the attractions like Sea world or zoo is the main reason and hotel is secondary. Overall not bad at all.

Everything that could have gone wrong did at our stay here. We were put in 1 room there was blood on the curtains and the toilet was clogged. They moved us rooms to have more blood on the sheets. Our ac unit started leaking water all over our floor so they replaced it only to have the new ac unit to start smoking. The room didn’t come with a microwave like it said it did. The staff and the Manager were AWFUL! So rude! Kids ran up and down the halls at all hours of the night knocking and screaming at the doors. The toilets plugged in our rooms. And the breakfast room was Awful! So if your look to vacation and relax stay far far away from here!

Initial experience: Parking is insane. It’s almost impossible to navigate the small spaces and turns in a minivan. The young man who checked me in talked so fast, I had to ask him to show down so I could understand him. He was completely disinterested in me, and made no eye contact.
Room: We booked a 1 bedroom «suite». It is teeny. It is not a 1 bedroom. The separation is a sliding door with see-​through curtains. There is no privacy and no way to watch TV without waking up the kids. The pullout couch has the thinnest possible mattress, you can feel the bars through, and there is no comforter for the pull-​out! We also had to steal pillows from the other beds. Luckily (?) each bed has 4 flat, lumpy pillows, so we could steal two. The second night we asked for more pillows and a blanket. Be sure you have a remote for the fan unit. We suffered with no a/​c in one room for two days before discovering that we were simply missing the remote. There is no way to know what you are missing if they don’t tell you. There is a musty smell in the room, and our allergies are going crazy.
If you stay here with your kids, skip the 1bd and get the 2 queen bed room or bunk room.
Breakfast: typical pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, English muffins. Several juice options. They have six waffle stations, which is awesome. The «hot breakfast» consisted of scrambled eggs and sausage patties. The first go-​round the sausage was yellow and was horrible. I’m pretty sure it was chicken sausage. It tasted old. When I went back for more eggs, I noticed that the new batch of sausage was normal color. This time, it tasted like normal pork sausage and was very good. Day two: hot selection was biscuits and gravy. Pretty sure it was TVP in the gravy, not sausage. It was decent, the quality you would expect from a free budget hotel breakfast. The third day (Monday) they were out of orange juice and hard boiled eggs.
Positives: the kind woman working the front desk who dealt with my complaints and grumpiness with kindness, doing her best to fix the problem. Besides the guy who checked us in, everyone has given us great service. The beds are very comfortable as well. Super convenient location, everything we wanted to see was within 15 minutes.

Bedbugs. That’s all I need to say. Check for more details on the bedbug registry so it’s not just me.

Hard to give this 3 stars when the room even didn’t have a microwave. Also, the refrigerator didn’t work and we reported it. But it never got fixed or replaced; very disappointing. Someone dropped the ball, unless guest relations don’t exist here. Otherwise; the room and hallways seem to have been updated recently. Price was reasonable for the area.

Stayed one night on a Sunday, definitely wouldn’t want to stay on a weekend…
Cons:
Parking is a very cramped and it’s ridiculous that they charge 10.00 for parking!
The room itself is clean however the walls and floors are paper thin. We were on the third floor and can hear every step above us and every door closing! Didn’t get it to sleep until late into the night due to the noise. I called three times for two extra pillows since the «firm» ones they give you are small and flat. Street noise and cars parking along the street probably to avoid paying the extra charge were also very loud.
Pros:
Room was clean
Free breakfast had a lot of options and staff was friendly and helpful.
Centrally located to zoo and downtown .
Front desk was friendly, had no problems checking in and out.
You get what you pay for.
Would stay again but ask for fourth floor and park on street

The good:
Relatively quiet and odor free.
Reachable staff.
Nice beds.

in room fridge but could be colder.
Has a pool.
The Bad:
Cold front desk staff
pay for parking in an awkward structure: backed in to a wall. no real damage but you could see where a zillion other people had done same thing.
Wifi too weak: The hotel across the street was stronger. go figure.
in room coffee is horrible. get your coffee down stairs, slightly better.

Overall good, little pricey.
Not so great:
1) The microwave oven was not good. It took forever to warm up food. This was disappointing since we paid $ 10/​night extra to have microwave at room.
2) The fridge is too small.
3) The room is crampy, particularly because the wash basin (bathroom sink) is situated in the bedroom.
4) The bathroom is too crampy.
5) May be it is only me, but the breakfast menu without the egg is bad, please consider having some other good substitute, if you have to.
6) Charging extra for parking. (I parked on the street.)
7) The mattress is too soft.
8) Pool service is sloppy, there were no towels in one weekday evening.
Great:
1) Separate den/​room with sofa, study desk, and TV.
2) Ample wall outlets.

4) Location

Very nice room, spacious and comfortable. Costs were reasonable for the room we had.
Cons: the breakfast room was right around the corner and the people were horribly loud at 7a. Room, could have used a microwave.
Pros: biggest in my opinion, about 4m from Old Own San Diego. Also staff left the room every day as if it were our 1^st night.

Upon checking in… the staff was really friendly. Spacious rooms, really clean. Up to date décor, new carpet. Nice.

Left and came back, staying 2 nights here, and the maid thoroughly cleaned our room. Great maid service!
The breakfast is the one thing they need improvements on… only biscuits and gravy, waffles, danish’s, muffins, oatmeal (in the packets) oranges, bananas and apples, cereals… You cannot take anything to go. You have to eat it in the breakfast area, which was packed. No seating.
The parking is the second thing… its terrible!!!
You shouldn’t have to PAY to park in this small area. Watch out for dings on your vehicles doors. Small parking spaces.
Heated pool. Hot tub. Nice.
Would stay here again.
