I am a student in the Cybersecurity program at Coleman.
The teachers at this school, for the most part, are excellent. I’ve learned a lot from the security instructors and have had fun even with my humanities and English courses. My three stars here come exclusively from the PROFESSORS. If I were to write this review about the school’s administration, this review would be in the negative for stars.
The administration for this school has absolutely no idea what they’re doing.
— There is ZERO communication between departments. You can inform one employee of an important piece of information that you might expect them to put in a system (considering this is a computer college), only to move onto the next department to find that the previous person had not informed anyone else, much less put the data into their system. I told the administration team multiple times to change my email address they had on file, and they continued to send email to my old account which I no longer check. This is a small example… the most extreme example is that several times they have completely failed to report my enrollment status to FAFSA, resulting in me having to repay loans while I’m still attending school. They were not timely in getting this corrected.
— The administration DOES NOT care about you as a student. Once they get your money, they are hands off entirely. As Greg H mentioned in his review, this school claims that they are not-​for-​profit, which is a description that does not match Coleman. If you’re late on any kind of payment, they immediately discontinue your classes, leaving your education flowing in the wind. If you drop out early during a mod, even if it’s for personal hardship, they WILL require you to pay the remainder of your tuition OUT OF POCKET, and will not allow you to continue attendance until you do so.
— The student advisors are impossible to get a hold of. Most of them only work until 5 pm, which for most students is very hard to manage because we are at work until 5. There is a single advisor, Kevin Wool, who stays late and is extremely helpful. No one else in this department is worth their salt, and good luck trying to get them to respond to an email or take a phone call. Need to talk to someone about an urgent issue with your education? GOOD LUCK. You’ll be tossed around from department to department, most likely ending up on someone’s voicemail box. When the higher-​ups «go to lunch,» their lunch breaks are often for 4, 5, 6 hours, maybe even a whole day. Unless you show up physically to the school between 8 am — 5 pm, you will have a very hard time getting ahold of the right person to handle your issue. Another problem with the advisors is they often don’t have their facts straight. I personally have been placed in classes that were entirely wrong for my curriculum, occasionally causing me to miss out on a class that I actually WANTED to enroll in, simply because I didn’t find out they enrolled me in the wrong classes until a few days before the next mod started.
— At Coleman, the administration treats you as though you are inferior. Any questions you may have or grievances you’d like to address are met with attitude and a smug face. No one wants to help you, and you are made to feel like an idiot if there is something you don’t understand or if there’s an issue with which you need assistance.
So there you have it. Please do enroll at Coleman, your education will be worth the money. But for the love of all that’s holy, stay as far as you possibly can from the administration department.

I attended this organization when they called themselves «Coleman College» located on Parkway Drive in La Mesa. I guess they thought that the name-​change would somehow make themselves more prestigious but a leopard cannot change its’ spots.
I was specific to the enrollment counselor that I wanted to learn to repair computers. He recommended that I enroll in the CET (Computer Engineering Technology) curriculum. An outright lie as it turned out. Although I completed the curriculum and earned a certificate not worth wiping my butt, the curriculum was focused on computer NETWORKING. I would say that maybe 10% of that entire program involved computer repairs.
One of my ‘instructors’ method of ‘teaching’ was by reading aloud directly from the text, page by page. She did state that she was a student at the school before she was hired to teach. Coleman must have been desperate for instructors, so consider that to be the quality of education you can expect, should you decide to enroll.
As for their so-​called job placement practices, they found me a position with a company as a computer OPERATOR that utilized that company’s own proprietary software. That position had NOTHING to do with computer networking OR computer repairs.
I guess that when I entered the admittance office the counselor saw «GI Bill» written on my forehead. They will enroll you even if you tell them you want to learn how to embroider.

Going on my second semester at Coleman and I’m have nothing but good things to say. The curriculum is challenging but not impossible. The instructors and staff all love what they do and are very approachable and always willing to help. My Admissions Officer Michelle Cesena would keep in touch with me regularly after I had already committed to the school and she still checks in on me from time to time so to Michelle if you’re reading this, thank you so much. Besides the program I’m enrolled in I’m also a part of the schools Diversity Book Club and the newly formed E-​Sports League. There’s a Robotics club and a 3D printer club so there’s tons of activities for students to get involved in. Not sure what to say about negative reviews or if it’s even for me to speak about them… so I won’t. My experiences have been fantastic so far. I’m learning to build games and I’m loving my time here, oh yeah, the Global Game Jam rocked!!! Also, I haven’t heard any complaints about anything from anyone whether they be student or faculty. I love my Coleman family and my schools future look brighter and brighter everyday! I would highly recommend to anyone who is sitting on the fence on whether or not they should attend to join us and see for yourself.

Graduated in 2008 with a BS in Computer Information Systems. Dated materials, methods, and hardware. Teachers would often complain out loud to students about unfair practices and wages. This didn’t help my confidence in the school but I moved forward hoping it would get better. I feel comfortable in saying that 25% of my classes were taught by competent instructors while the others were ex-​students hired to teach the content they just learned with no real-​world experience.
I really hope things have changed for the better but looking at some of these recent reviews, it doesn’t look like it.

Update from my last review: Finally after weeks of hearing nothing, I got a response. I enrolled, picked my classes and things were moving forward. That’s about the only positive thing I can save about this school. Oh, and my enrollment counselor. My experience with her has been top notch. She responds quickly and seems genuinely concerned and willing to help answer any questions I have. Cynthia Martinez is the only positive thing about that school.
— The front desk receptionist (San Diego location) is the first impression of the business. All of them, morning to evening are clueless as to whats going on in that facility. They either have no clue who is in the office, where they sit or what extension they are at. You can give them specific directions on how to address an envelope, I can guarantee you, they will fail.
–Financial Aide — good luck getting any kind of response via email or from leaving a voice mail. Ive left countless voice mails and still have emails from last year with no response. When you do finally get in touch with someone, because you walked into their office, they have no clue how to read their system. I went in the office in Jan making sure I didn’t have to pay a balance to the school in case my financial aide didn’t cover it. Mike, looked in my account, said everything is fine and paid up to July. Its March, and I’m getting a bill, with no explanation as to what its for, for an amount owed. (Which by the way is terrible business to send out a bill with no explanation) I go into the office, speak with someone else in financial aide, and she didn’t know either. It took about 5 mins of her superior explaining to her what the balance was for. So I ask, «Am I going to have to pay this every Mod?» Of course I didn’t get a straight answer, just a packet of paper to fill out for FAFSA to «see» if I’m eligible for a grant. Uhhh… I wasn’t eligible for a grant last year, why would I be eligible this year? It was pretty much a «its after 5pm I dint have time for you» gesture.
–Admin office — nothing positive to say about them either. I graduated with my AS degree and wasn’t able to get time off of work to attend the ceremony so I arranged to have the degree picked up about a week prior. I called a few days before to make sure it will be available and was assured that it was going to be ready. I have the degree picked up and it wasn’t even my degree. Nowhere near the spelling of my name, at all. So it was returned, we spelled out my name for the girl at the front desk, and nobody seems to know where it is. My enrollment counselor took it upon herself to find my degree, and meet me near my home and give it to me.
–OVERALL: the administration of this school has a horrible sense of business and an even worse sense of customer service. I don’t know how they have been in business for so long with the way they run things. If I hadn’t already invested so much of my time and money in this place, I would get a full refund, give them back their degree and find another route. Its like the blind leading the blind at this school. I cant wait until I don’t have to deal with these people anymore.

I started attending Coleman University in October of 2009 majoring in Computer Networking. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do after high school and I thought that computer networking sounded interesting. When I first started I was interested in networking but as time went on I found out that networking wasn’t quite my thing. I decided to finish out the degree as I was already close to completion. Once I graduated with an associates degree I decided to switch majors and try Coleman’s web media design or graphic design program.
I am currently in the web media design program and I enjoy it a lot more than computer networking. Nothing against the networking side just it wasn’t what I wanted to do in life. So far in the design program all the teachers are really good and know what they’re doing. The environment and the computer on the design side of the campus are great and have no issues. They have both Apple and Windows machines so you can use what you’re most comfortable with.
With all these negative reviews the thing is you get out of school what you put in to it. You might not do your homework and get by with a passing grade and feel it was easy. However if you actually do the work, pay attention in class and learn on your own and put effort into your education you will get something positive out of your experience at Coleman University.

Coleman University
A waste of money.
1. Teachers have never had on the job experience. Most are kids, who graduated from coleman.
2. The computers, switches, routers you work with are so old that they aren’t even used in the field anymore. Where did my 40,000 go?
3. They even charge you 5 cents to copy papers when teachers dont print enough for the students in the classes.
4. Half of my server labs fail due to the lack of resources on the computers. They are so old that you could purchase a similar machine for under 100 $ closer to 50 $. Again, where the F is my money going? Not the teachers, not the equipment.
Very Poor Classes
1. Mod 1 –5 You learn the same thing over and over again. Mod after Mod. Im being taught the same CRAP I learned 50 weeks ago, and 30 weeks ago, and 10 weeks ago.
Staff
1. They roll their eyes when you have a problem.
1a. The classes are completely full after the MOD classes. You aren’t guaranteed placement in the Associate and BS classes. WTF? Ive been here 50 weeks and now I have to drop out for 20 weeks before you have a slot for me to attend??? LAME, Unacceptable…
2. I had to complain about a teacher who would continually yell at my classmates and myself. (I dont care if you were in the military RA) I pay to come here…
When I complained to Stephen or (Steffen) tried to turn it around to make it my fault. I looked him in eye, and I said No way your making this my fault, pay some decent teachers a decent wage and you might… just might get a little credibility in your «university»…
3. They continually send incorrect billing info to my residence… bills that warn you that you will be dropped if you do not pay. Sleazy practices.
Please don’t take my word for it, read a few of the other reviews here from people who cant take it anymore.
FYI: If you have any prior education or work experience, save yourself 50 weeks and avoid COLEMAN… save yourself TIME, MONEY, FRUSTRATION.

I am finishing out my B/​S here, overall I was pretty happy, there were some times that I felt not taken care of and it seemed like this was a bit mismanagement. Thats about as far as I will go.

Just started, but I already like it. If your unemployed like me you can get $ 5,000 toward your tuition from EDD/​WIA.
Once you get an email from Coleman you can sign up for DreamSpark by Microsoft and get a load of software for free. This is a different program then what the school offers.
The school offers MSDNAA which is a really cheap way to get MS software. You can get most for free by downloading the trial version of the software then using the key that you get from the MSDNAA website. If you need Coleman to burn a CD for you the price is between 0-​$ 20. Still pretty reasonable for some of this software is $ 1,000 retail.

So far so good. I’m just now finishing up the 1^st 10 weeks and am really enjoying it. I have experience in the field already and I am still learning new things every week. The teachers seem to really know what they are talking about (unlike some other iTTechnical schools.) I recommend this college to anyone with a basic knowledge of computers that wants to advance their skills.
