Established in 1990.

John Noble started Coastal Sage started as a garden maintenance service. Over the years, and through experience it has developed its garden design ability.

John N.

Business Owner

John Noble was born in Brooklyn, New York. While at school at Humboldt State University, he worked on campus as a gardener’s assistant. He has been studying and working with plants since.

He studied landscaping maintenance and design at Mesa College in San Diego. John is past president of the San Diego Floral Association.

He is on the editorial board and is a regular writer for the magazine California Garden.

Hired Coastal Sage Gardening to renovate a small patch of lawn in my front yard into a xeriscape. While John was very knowledgeable for this type of landscaping, his pricing strategy was off the wall. He charged $ 50 an hour for his laborers. If you decide to use him, get a firm price quote for the work up front. Otherwise expect to get taken to to the cleaners.

Coastal Sage also does excellent maintenance. For the first time in 22 years I don’t have to follow my gardener around to make sure he doesn’t kill any plants. They are a pleasure to work with.

The Coastal Sage shop sells organic garden supplies and a variety of tools, crafts, gifts and art. They also offer botanical and international culture classes.
