Wow, this company is amazing. Whenever we have a question or a concern they are always available. I can call in and they pick up the phone! Best payroll company we have ever used at our company. So glad we found them and they are here to make our business run smooth. Thanks Coastal, you guys rock!

I have had the pleasure of using Coastal for my payroll for over a year now. They are nothing but the most professional folks, and things couldn’t be much easier. I have put a block on ADP a few times just as this group is so great to work with.
I lock myself out more than anyone should, and Sarah is always so quick to reply and take care of my needs. I am very sad that we are not going to be doing business in San Diego, but would strongly recommend Coastal to anyone looking for payroll and HR needs!

Unfortunately this company screwed up my books so severely over a period of two years, that I was contacted nearly a year later by the EDD telling me that they were issuing me a refund for payroll tax overpayment of nearly $ 4,000. Despite this, I stuck with them. Last month the payroll failed due to insufficient funds. I am a very small, struggling business and they have a policy of 2 NSF’s. We had been given 6 NSF’s which I appreciated very much.
I called them on my own to see how I could fix the problem and ask them for some time to pay it back. I was told by the Coastal employee that I could have a few days to get the money together and wire it back to them. But 15 minutes later I got the most aggressive, rude, accusatory call from Craig Coleman that I’ve ever received from a company I do business with. He spoke to me with a harshly rude, alpha-​male attitude and demanded that I get that money to him by end of day or else. He practically accused me of stealing money from his business. I was so taken aback by the way he was speaking to me that I hung up on him. It was that bad. Still, I spent the rest of the day going bank to bank trying to gather up enough money to get it back to them.
A month later I saw that my payroll didn’t even get run. When I called to find out why, I was once again put on the phone with an aggressive, condescending Craig Coleman. First he sarcastically referenced getting hung up on, then told me a month prior I failed to pay them their money back on time. This time I was pissed. Needless to say I had had enough of the mistreatment and disrespect from this dudes mouth. We have been loyal clients of theirs through NUMEROUS incompetencies and now were being treated like the bane of their existence. The unprofessional, aggressive, rude phone calls were the last straw for me. I told them we are terminating out account and going with someone else.
Tonight I get an email from John Gallagher telling me he agrees with how Craig handled the calls, accusing me of being rude to his employees in the past (see 1^st sentence of this review), and telling me he’s going to put all our private email correspondence on Unilocal for everyone to see. Knock yourself out John. It’s just me expressing how blown away I am by how rudely I was treated on the phone.
Bottom line: money is all that matters to these guys. And if at any point you do something they feel puts their income at risk, they will treat you like an enemy with aggressive, threatening phone calls. Even directly from the owners. I don’t need to be spoken to like that, nor treated that way.

Horrible… Could not get information from their employees on records needed for an accounting audit. After getting the run around left messages with both owners. No return phone call. If you are running a serious business beware of these people.
When I did get the payroll records the presentation was a disaster. Completely unprofessional. On other side of the coin «What is cheap is cheap»

I recently switched payroll services. I am so impressed with the efficientcy and simplicity of Coastal Payroll. Ryan made our transition easy and seamless. I easily process payroll on line from my home office after hours or early mornings before heading into the office. Payroll is accurate and ontime. Working with a local company that is well priced is a win for our business and I highly recommend their service.

We’ve been using Coastal Payroll Services for four years now and is extremely happy with our service. There were some bumpy roads in the beginning but all is well! Their payroll system is super user friendly and anytime I have a question, their team is always available. I would recommend their service.

Update. Been using these guys for a year now and without a hitch. The website they have me use to enter in my payroll info doesn’t work overseas, it is annoying but they’ve always processed my payrolls as expected after I email them. So no worries. I am glad I didn’t use a big box payroll company who treats you as a number not a customer. Good day.

We were with Paychex for over 20 years, but two years ago we switched to Coastal Payroll. The quality of service and personal care is significantly better. They even beat the costs that from not on Paychex but the bids we had from ADP.
Using a local-​based payroll company certainly has benefits and we are very happy with Coastal Payroll.
