Cascade Spa

It bums me out to leave this review, because I’ve been to Cascade 2 or 3 times before, and all times it was really wonderful. But tonight I went using a Groupon voucher that was given to me as a present. The facts:
–The voucher was for $ 74, for services that were apparently valued at $ 143
–No details on the voucher regarding length of services — the voucher just said «One Rejuvenating Massage and Foot-​Scrub Package»
–Turns out, it was exactly the same thing as going to «Happy Buddha» or «Oasis Spa» on Convoy St. — aka pay $ 20, stick your feet in a bucket of hot water, get a foot massage, a scalp massage, and a shoulder massage over your clothes for an hour. Literally no difference.
–The service was an hour long
–Note that many of Cascade Spa’s much more elaborate and lengthy spa packages cost far less than this did. On their website, the 90-​minute «Cascade Spa Rejuvenation Package’ only costs $ 60. How does that make any sense?
The owner was kind enough to call me since I mentioned to the front desk guy I was confused by the price, but unfortunately, he mostly just justified the cost by saying they used expensive Moroccan oil for the scalp massage, and provided a face mask (which was just a pre-​soaked cloth from a bag they put on my face). He told me the service should have been «a little longer than an hour» but never even gave me an exact time. When I told him it was exactly an hour, he said, «I can check and confirm that with the front desk» like he didn’t believe me. I do appreciate that he offered to give me a discount the next time I came in, but honestly, I feel the Groupon voucher is total extortion, and I don’t really want to support a business that is OK with ripping off their customers like that.
To top it off, the service itself was very mediocre, and the man who was massaging me was sick. He kept coughing and sneezing, and at one point left the room to hawk a loogie in the nearby bathroom. Like… this dude was touching me all over, even my face. So gross. Overall, very disappointing :(

We took the Couples Staycation/​Vacation Escape package at Cascade Spa in San Diego, CA. We were scheduled from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. On 1÷30÷2016. After we were told it’s finished, we checked the list of treatments for the package and wonder why we did not received the lavender sauna. When we were already at the counter to pay, my husband asked why we did not have the sauna. That’s the only time we were told their sauna is broken for several days now. Then we were told that they added minutes to the one-​hour full body massage. That’s not true. The full body massage started 9:39 pm and finished at 10:38 pm. My husband checked the time on his cell phone. Then we were given $ 10 off. On our way home, we realized that we were not given the take home lavender eye pillow, which was included in their list.
However, the deep tissue massage services were fabulous; deserving four stars (****).

This place is hit or miss. I’ve had good massages, and I’ve had pretty bad ones. It really is all in who you happen to get.
Johnny is great at giving deep tissue massages, so if you do check this place out definitely ask for him.

Great massage for a great deal! The staff was friendly. My sister and I came in for a massage, we ended being in the same room which was actually nice. The young women who massaged me found the spots I needed work on and really worked on them! I will be bringing my husband back for a couples massage next week!

Great place to go if you are in desperate need of a massage or just go just cause! The staff is super nice and very handy. The complex is super clean and well organized. Parking is easy to find because it’s located in downtown in Hillcrest. It’s located near rite aid and the 76 gas station off of university in Hillcrest.
Once you come in, you are greeted right away by the receptionist, and then he or she will ask for your name and your appointment if you have one, if not walk ins are okay too. Then you will be sitted to wait for the masseuse. He will then come out and get you, depending on who you prefer guy or girl, but most likely you will have a guy which is a ++++ especially if you have a sore body or a lot of knots that needs releasing. You also have the option to take a shower if needed, and then you will be taken to the room where the masseuse will leave the room for you to undress and get comfortable, if you decide to go naked that’s a plus so they can work every part of your body. When I went I was fully naked and he was able to work my body to its extent. They will also ask you if you would like soft, medium, or hard. So pick on how well your pain tolerance is. During the massage you can relax or have a full conversation with them. Tip is not needed but they will take whatever you can give them, they don’t base it off of gratitude or tip percentage. If you are a Unilocal reviewer, you do have the special offer on here that you can use, 39.99 for a full body massage for an hour, if not it’s $ 45, which is not bad at all. I will return again, trust me, it’s worth it. I’ve been twice already and enjoy their companies.

I am in pain right now, the massage I got was painful even though I informed the guy to massage softer. Language barrier for sure and they stand pretty much next to you as you pay. So weird

Today is my second time here in about a week. Right after Christmas Day I came to relax from all the driving and eating and got the Ruby package. It was everything I expected! However, today while running around working non-​stop, as I do daily, I reached my pain threshold for arthritis pain in my SI joint! I just couldn’t take it anymore, my entire leg had even started to go cold & numb at times. I went to the spa and got right in after a short wait and they paired me with Nicole. Nicole immediately seemed to connect with the aches and pains of my on-​the-​go lifestyle! Her pressure was perfect– firm and confident, just how I Like it! I instantly start having normal feeling in my leg! I will be coming to see her from here on out! She’s amazing!

I’ve had two massages here. The first was what I thought was going to be a foot massage but it ended up being a super relaxing almost full body clothed massage. I almost fell asleep it was so go. ⁵⁄₅
The second was a full body massage. The therapist managed to hone in on a problem area around my neck/​shoulders and really dug into it well. I had been going elsewhere for massage to get into this neck/​shoulder tightness but no one came close to resolving it for me. ⁵⁄₅
Overall excellent massages at an affordable price.
Some advice for newbies:
1. Chinese massage therapists are different to US-​trained therapists in that they massage hard almost all the time (they see it as medicinal as apposed to relaxing), and they expect you to be naked when doing a full body. It can we weird initially but then after a few sessions it all feels very normal.
2. A language barrier does exist so make sure that you speak in simple terms on what you want or what you don’t want before the massage starts.

What a great place! My mom and were looking to have a «spa day» after we both conquered stressful experiences. We found the «couple’s staycation» package and it was amazing. When walking outside the spa you would never guess how big and nice it is on the inside. Very tranquil and calming décor/​music/​waterfalls/​lighting.
We started in our «massage room» where we changed into robes and slippers. We then sat in the steam room, where they brought us cold water to drink. Very relaxing. Then they did the hair/​scalp treatment, which was a nice massage for the face/​head. While they did the head massage our feet soaked in warm water. Then they put a masque on our face and did the foot scrub and massage. This was all very well done and relaxing. My mom and I both agreed that we felt very pampered.
We then went to our original massage room where we had tea and then our hour long massage. BEST MASSAGE EVER. I am no stranger to massages, and probably get 2 – 3 a year, but this was an amazing massage. I had Nicole and asked for «medium» pressure and it was just perfect — gentle enough to be relaxing and hard enough to work out some knots in my back. (My mom had Johnny and said he was also amazing). Though, I would note that if you are embarrassed about showing some booty, leave your underwear on (my mom and I both agreed we were «revealed» slightly more than a normal massage, but neither of us really minded).
The whole experience was divine and just what we both needed. The only drawback was that another couple was talking loudly during our foot massage etc. and since the room wasn’t a closed off room we could hear them, so that was a little annoying. But the music and relaxing treatments helped me ignore them. Overall a great experience and I would definitely go again.

Wowowowowowowowowow. I was in shock after my 1 hr reflexology. I have been to dozens upon dozens of massage parlors (though I’m no expert) I do know a good value. 25 bucks for a head to toe reflexology massage where the masseuse is dedicated to making your whole body feel like jelly. To be honest, I had received a massage at a location in Chula Vista only one day prior and it was so terrible that I sought out a new place to find nirvana. Cascade blew all my expectations out oh the water, my only regret is that I didn’t get the name of my masseuse. He was so professional and asked often if the pressure was ok (he was incredibly strong handed but that is exactly what I look for) I will be back!

I love this spa. I first came here about three months ago for a bachelorette party and I have been coming back on a regular basis ever since. I do not consider myself a luxurious person, but when it comes to massages I like to treat myself to the best. This is what I get at Cascade Spa in Hillcrest. There is nothing bad I could say about it. I have been to hundreds of spas across the county in my lifetime and Cascade is by far the best I have been to. If you live in San Diego or just in town on vacation or business, stop by if you need some relaxation.

Amazing massage and even better ambiance. Cascade is not an ordinary massage spa. It is a beautiful full service spa with individual rooms and a tranquil setting. The massage therapists are amazing and got out all my knots. Too bad they don’t have one in LA where I live otherwise I’d come every week.

My husband and I have been coming to Cascade Spa in North Park ever since they opened. We just moved to La Jolla a few months back but we still drive over to this spa to get our bi-​monthly massages. My husband is a mechanic and I worked in retail for 20 years so we both spend a lot of time on our feet. We have had constant back problems and our chiropractor recommended we get massages to help ease the pain and loosen the muscles in our backs. The masseuses here are top notch and I have never had an issue. I tell them exactly where my trouble spots are and they work those areas to perfection. I seriously don’t know what I would do without my massages. They are like meditation for me. It gives me time to shut my brain down and relax for once. I love it.

After moving downtown from Encinitas I knew I had to find a new spa because I wasn’t going to drive 30 minutes up North every time I wanted to relax. The drive itself would cancel out the benefits of a soothing massage, it just didn’t make sense. I did a little research and asked my friends who live in the area and they all recommended Cascade. I am a little shy and did not want to go try out a new place so I asked my friend if she wanted to go with me. I told her I would treat her so of course she agreed, it was a free massage!
The atmosphere is amazing. I felt more relaxed the second I walked through the door. The front desk girl was super friendly and within about 10 minutes of walking in we were ushered into our rooms. My masseuse was amazing. She got all the right spots and took extra time to focus on my shoulders, where I get a lot of serious pains. This was pure bliss. At the end of my massage, I didn’t want to get off of the table. My arms felt like they were made of jell-​o, I was so relaxed. I really needed this time to rejuvenate myself. Deciding to try this place out was the best decision I have made in a long time. It is really hard to say because I loved the last spa I used to go to up North but this has to be one of the best spots for a massage in San Diego.

One of my past visits turned out to be beneficial in more ways than one. While talking to my massage therapist, I mentioned the problems that I have been having with headaches and sinus pain. My massage therapist told me to turn over, and started working on the tissues around my head and face. I was so happy that I wanted to cry. The pain relief was incredible. It has been come a regular part of our sessions. I have not had a headache in weeks and I feel so much more relaxed at work and home with the kids. I do not know what I would do without Cascade Spa!

This place is legit. Highly skilled masseuse. I left feeling completely relaxed and will certainly be back.
Not only was the massage on point, the establishment itself was very clean, nicely decorated, and peaceful.

I stopped here to treat myself a spa and I had a great appreciation for the whole experience.
I had Matt and he listened to what I need, he was helpful in my back and leg pain. He was AMAZING! His massage was the best I have ever had. He did a strong massage with great techniques so there was no pain. The pressure was just right I almost fell asleep during the service.
I got the harmony something service, and I loved it. It came with the steam sauna with massage foot scrub, Jacuzzi and a bunch of other services added to it. Everyone should totally come here to get the service, it worth it and I recommend it to all of you guys.
This spa is beautiful, relaxing, clean, and very inviting with nice music. They also have other good services you can add-​on for your massage as well. The front desk was nice and took care of everything, we did not have to wait at all. This is the place I’m going to letting my friends know and I’m coming back again for sure.

It was my first time to Cascade Spa, my first impression is that it’s very clean, and the decoration is very unique, with many details. Very few Spa pay attention to decoration detail. The overall environment is very clam and relax.
I had a full body 60 min massage, The pressure is firm and professional! That’s what I care the most. I am very satisfied overall. And plus the sauna is a bonus!
For the price, service, and environment, I can’t find anywhere else that match Cascade Spa. Recommend!

My girlfriend and I were in dire need of a spa day to unwind from a busy past summer! We were going to go to Glen Ivy, but then I found a deal for Cascade on Groupon and opted to go here instead. So glad we did! The décor is really as beautiful inside, if not more than– the photos on Unilocal!The place is full of relaxing aromas, lights, waterfalls, sculptures and plants.
The deal for a LILY PACKAGE per person included:
PRIVATE LAVENDER-​EUCALYPTUS STEAM SAUNA:
–They had us undress (completely) and put on robes before we did this. My friend and I enjoyed it at first because it really helped with my allergies/​congestion and also for detox. However, it started to get pretty damn hot in there… we had to turn off the steam! Ten minutes felt like twenty!
–FULL BODY SCRUB–
–You lay (naked) on a flat shower table (face down first, then when you turn around you have towels covering your lady parts). The masseuse then puts sea salt scrub (smells really good!) on your skin and rinses you off. Kinda awkward at first because I didn’t know what to expect, but I never felt violated (she never touched anywhere she wasn’t supposed to, and when I flipped around she turned around until I let her know I was decent, lol).
–JACUZZI SOAK (Private tub)
–After the scrub, this jacuzzi soak was soooooo relaxing. It’s a private room and it’s beautiful in there!
MOISTURIZING FACE MASK:
Cooling and felt like aloe… it was like those pre-​packed kinds in the packages. The masseuse put on on my face halfway through the massage.
–FULL BODY 60 MIN MASSAGE:
They were nice enough to let my friend and I be in the same room. The room was very peaceful, dimly lit with little butterflies hanging from the ceiling :)
FREE TAKE HOME LAVENDAR EYE PILLOW —
We put this in the fridge when we got home and rested our eyes with it for about 10 minutes. Smells nice and helps to depuff tired eyes!
Wow…we were in such a tranquil daze when we got out that we decided to book a FOOT MASSAGE too!!! So we paid another $ 24.99 for it each. The best part is, it ended up being pretty much ANOTHER one hour full body massage! This time it was clothes-​on (the other one we had a sheet/​blanket on), and guys did our massages the second time around. They were really good at getting out all the knots, so by the time we left, my friend and I felt like jelly and were barely able to walk… we had spent 3 hours at this place!
I loved it here and would most definitely come again. The only thing I would recommend that they improve is for the staff to cut down on background chatter (was a little annoying when I could hear them through the breakroom walls). Other than that, prices are reasonable, staff are friendly and the ambiance is amazing! A great place to treat yourself after a long, tough week at work.
