Carl’s Rentals

I recently rented a flat bed trailer on short notice and I was provided excellent customer service. They were very accommodating and informative. I was happy about their willingness to go the extra mile to make the equipment I needed available even though it was barely being checked in. The process to rent is very simple and they are very reasonably priced. I will return for all my future rental needs.

I don’t always rent generators, but when I do, I use Carl’s Rentals.
The process to secure and pick-​up something from Carl’s was easy, efficient and affordable – simply called the number, talked to the manager and had everything ready to go. I contacted a few other rental places on information on generators, and Carl’s came out on top in both price and knowledge of what we needed. The manager, Oscar, was extremely professional and helpful. We needed a generator (s) for a local community event, and they gave a fair quote, along with the most direct information.
If you need a generator (and other rentals) anywhere even remotely close to the mid-​city area of San Diego, this is the place. Located right on University Avenue by the 15, so it is convenient as well.

I needed to rent a truck ASAP, and they had it ready. The gentleman who ran the establishment, Oscar, was courteous and very professional in the way he conducted the transaction. I’ll definitely go back there and would highly recommend their services to anyone. Thanks!

Needed some last minute tables and chairs for a backyard party. Called Carl, he delivered the next day and picked up Monday. Not the cheapest prices but still very low to where total price doesn’t really make a difference. Glad I was able to rent on such a short notice and didn’t need a minimum order for delivery!

Seriously. Do you know what you DON“T need when you are planning a party for 40 kids and adults? To call a place, talk to their GENERAL MANAGER who AFTER YOU ASK tells you, YES we have Kids tables and chairs for rent. You ask him «do I need to give you a credit card to reserve, do we need a form? what is my confirmation number?» and when the GENERAL MANAGER tells you…“nope just come pick it up Saturday, we open at 7:30a. and tell them you’re name…” and then you send your husband and find out the GENERAL MANAGER DOESN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT EQUIPMENT THEY HAVE TO RENT. so, that when you HAVE NO TABLE LIKE THE GENERAL MANAGER SAID HE DID to serve cake, all your kids just end up eating on the floor, on the couch and on the parent’s laps. that’s when it really hits you that CARL’S IS NOT THE PLACE to get your warm and fuzzy that your rental will be there, just like the GENERAL MANGER said it would.

Ordered several tables, chairs and kid’s table and chairs for a 3 year olds birthday party. I contacted Carl’s Rentals 3 days later to confirm pickup. They had no record of the order, however, the person that answered the phone admitted it was his error and remembered my call. He said he would have to call me back in 2 minutes to see if he could round up the order. 15 minutes later he called back to say he had partial order and could deliver the rest the following morning. Although slightly apologetic, doesn’t change the fact that no parent needs to suddenly stress finding a replacement on friday at 4:30pm. Will not recommend or use this service again.

After reading Unilocal reviews on a variety of Party Rental places, I decided to use Carl’s Rentals. I was glad that I had read the reviews, and knew what to expect upon arrival. The lot is filled with a ton of rental equipment, none of which I needed for the party, but stuff I’ll be back for when we renovate our home. Ignore the fact that there’s no curb appeal and find an employee to help you out when you arrive.
I talked with three different employees between placing my order, pick up and return. All three were extremely helpful, courteous and friendly. They were mellow, made the process easy and inspired confidence.
I’m thrilled with my experience at Carl’s Rentals and they’ll be my first stop when I’m throwing a party in the future!

This place is dirty and looks like a junkyard… but don’t be fooled. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Whatever I have ever needed for a party has been there and at a very reasonable price. I now go there for chairs, tables, heaters, canopies and will continue for anything else I need. They are flexible about the return time and are real people and not a faceless big company.

There seems to be some fake reviews going on here so take heed.
This place has been here forever and I remember coming here as a little girl when my dad needed a trailer for yard clippings. Now I’m all grown up and my husband is a customer. He’s rented a tow dolly, hauling trailers and a couple of tools over the years.
The prices are pretty comparable with other places.

Was in search of a sno-​cone machine… everywhere was overpriced… and then I found Carl’s Rentals. Whew. I called ahead to reserve it for the day. All he needed was my name and number… and then on the day of, i came to pick it up. It’s a 24 hour rental and online it says $ 50 but when i came in, he said $ 55. hmmmm… taxes? I dunno, it wasn’t clear to me, but whatever — I needed my sno-​cones!
The place was pretty easy to find, right on a corner lot. When i walked in, there were several other people waiting for various other rental needs. I found that it was rather odd to rental my sno-​cone machine there because it seemed more focused on moving trucks and machinery… but it served my needs. One of the guys was nice enough to help carry it to my car. The sno-​cone machine worked like a charm and was a hit at the party… the next morning we returned it and there goes the end of my review.
Will I rent from Carl’s again? I’m not sure, beause I do have a regular place that I rent from for tables and chairs. However, it is definitely on my list as second choice go-​to for rentals next time I’m in a bind. I did a pick-​up rental — so I’m not sure how a large-​scale rental with delivery would be…

First of all, when I showed up, Carl was there! I love when you go to a business and the name of guy on the sign is an actual person. Carl was very helpful and asked me details about my «do it yourself» project in order to get me the proper equipment. He was right on the money! The prices are VERY reasonable – I think I got the better end of the deal, really. I will use Carl’s for all my future «do it yourself» projects. I will also use them if I need to rent a truck. I forgot to mention that the gal in the office who rang me up was FAST and EFFICIENT. I LOVE good customer service and I was so impressed I had to take a minute to write this review. Thanks, Carls!

Carl and his assistant were absolutely focused on doing the best job possible with installing a trailer hitch on my 06 touareg. they ran the wiring through the frame tubing instead of just zip-​tying to the frame. they were careful not to lose any screws or damage any plastic parts when removing the bumper and accessories. carl is top notch in my opinion

When you call, you get Carl.
I decided to use Carl after I called San Diego Party rentals and they were not available. I’m so glad I ended up with Carl. I used his party rental equipment for a birthday party. Everything that I ordered arrived in great condition. We mostly communicated by email and phone. No high tech website, forms, or even a contract! He doesn’t like using contracts, which was fine as long as the rental equipment showed up. And it did, on time.
Communication: A+, quick and fast responses phone and email.
Pricing: B+ not the cheapest, not the most expensive
Delivery cost: $ 40 to delivery and $ 40 to pick up
Equipment: A, everything arrived in good condition ready for immediate use.
Overall experience: Excellent, I would definitely use Carl again. Old fashion business guy. You can tell he’s a hard worker and cares about his reputation and what his customers think. Bravo!

I now have an «equipment rental guy». I can’t recommend him enough and vow never to stand in a Home Depot line again only to be treated like another number.

Oh yeah — He not only showed me the ins and outs of the lawn dethatcher that I was renting but he helped me load it up in my 4-​Runner and hooked me up with a blanket because my truck «looked new».

Ford Explorer Owners must read this! U-​HAUL HATES YOU. Rather than look at the facts of that whole Firestone/​Explorer Debacle, they just decided to Black List you! You cannot tow a trailer off of U-Haul’s lot with your trusted Explorer that I’m guessing YOU HAVE NOT ROLLED OVER !!! Carl’s is great. Carl knows his stuff. Its not all sparkly and clean, but come on, we’re talking about tools and trailers. They’re supposed to be dirty. I’d rather rent a scuffed up trailer with properly inspected tires and greased bearings than a shiny orange and aluminum POS that some 18 yo kid on summer break told me «should be ok».

Carl the owner, great guy. Staffs were friendly. Overall great customer service. Highly recommended.

I am a licensed contractor and use Carl’s tools often. He has always taken the time to answer questions and explain stuff.
He is an honest person who cares more about building positive relationships that making fistfuls of cash. I refer all my friends to him, and they are all happy too.

On a lonely Sunday morning, I was forced into action to perform some last minute weed whacking to prevent my folks from being fined by the Fire Department for their backyard being a fire hazard. I rushed to my nearest Home Depot and was sadly turned away because it did not have a tool rental department. I checked Unilocal*and found a listing for Carl’s Rentals that sounded good.
When I arrived, I was met by Carl himself. He listened to the details of my project and disappeared, returning a short time later with a weed whacker, an ample amount of extra line and some wire cutters.
He showed me how to use the machine without insulting my intelligence and told me if I brought it back early the following day, he would reduce the rental fee by a good amount. Sadly, I told Carl that I wouldn’t be able to get the weed whacker back in time because of my work schedule and he gave me some extra time to make it work.
Admittedly, I hated doing the yard work in the 100+ degree weather and strongly considered hiring a Home Depot parking lot day laborer to finish the job for me but, I toughed it out.
Carl and the nice gal behind the counter made my day with their exceptional customer service and their friendly conversation. When I get the dreaded phone call from my mother at the end of August that the weeds are back and bigger than ever, I will definitely use Carl’s Rentals again.
