History

Established in 2003.

Camellia Flowers and Gifts started out in La Jolla in 2003. Then it was called Flowers by Atalanta, my beloved wedding floral business. We created beautiful flowers for hundreds of weddings from San Diego all the way to the Bay Area in Northern California. We opened Camellia Flowers and Gifts in January 2011 in beautiful Ocean Beach. The OB neighbors are so friendly and supportive of local businesses. We love making people smile with beautiful fresh flowers and gifts every day!

Business Owner

My life in flowers started when I was only 15 years old when I got my first job at the local flower shop. From then on, there was rarely a time when I wasn’t working with flowers. I even chose to go to college at UC San Diego, partly because there was a flower shop on campus!

While working for over 20 years in the floral industry, I have cultivated a personal style that is a mix of contemporary American and classic European floral design. Camellia Flowers and Gifts is named after my beautiful daughter Camille. She inspires me every day to be creative, laugh heartily and she always keeps my on my toes. She has already learned to make beautiful bouquets and is a wonderful helper at the shop.

Just called to thank these wonderful people! I order a delightful arrangement for my girlfriend, for Valentine’s Day, and they came through! Typically when ordering flowers during this time of year, you get the over grown crappy flowers! These flowers were absolutely beautiful, and are still at our home and have not died yet! They also sent a free bear and small box of chocolates!

I have seen several weddings featuring the amazing work of Camellia Wedding Flowers so I was so excited when it was my turn for her to do my wedding. Atalanta is so easy to work with and she interpreted my vision better than I ever could have imagined! I told her my ideas of how I wanted it to look then left it in her capable hands because I knew whatever she did would be amazing and I loved having a wedding vendor I don’t have to worry about!!! When I walked into my wedding day, it was truly the most beautiful space and I was so blown away at what an amazing job her team did with not only my breathtaking bouquet but the intricately staged centerpieces that were so much work.

Where do I begin?! Atalanta is a flower GOD. I met with her knowing nothing about flowers, but I had a general idea of the style I wanted for my August wedding. She was so great and showed me different and unique ways to achieve the look I wanted! I also expressed my opinion on the type of vases I wanted for the reception, and while she didn’t carry them in her shop, she searched around and rented from other florists and got EXACTLY what I wanted. I basically told her to do her thing on the flowers since I didn’t know much, and man she delivered! She showed up the day of the wedding and my jaw dropped… They were the most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen!!! Once I get the wedding pictures back I will certainly upload them for you all to see. Also, working with Atalanta was so much fun. She’s friendly, and very responsive to your inquiries! She even met me on a Sunday before I flew back home (it was a destination wedding). For me, flowers was one of the most important parts of planning my wedding. I knew what colors and specific flower I wanted but wasn’t sure if it would all fit in my budget. I was nervous that I would have to eliminate some items in order to make it all work but once I spoke to Atalanta and told her my dreams, she took all my worries away! Her experience and knowledge show in the beautiful bouquets, centerpieces and ceremony arrangements that she creates. I was speechless when she arrived with all my flowers the day of the wedding. Everything was exactly what I wanted, and more!!! Atalanta and her team arranged beautiful flowers for my wedding last November. The bouquets were gorgeous and we received so many complements on them. The boutonnieres were the perfect size and lovely. The church arrangement was so pretty! Atalanta was easy to work with, and I appreciated the patient and helpful consultation to help us straighten out what we wanted. She has lots of examples and sent us a competitively-​priced proposal with photos, so that we could envision the colors and feel of the arrangements better. We didn’t have the largest order, but we were treated like highly valued customers every single contact. I love this little OB business, and I would definitely order event flowers from Camellia Flowers again! My mother used to be a florist, and even she was thrilled with the quality and the beauty of our wedding flowers.

I have been involved with events and planning for over 10 years and when it came time for my own wedding… it’s a lot of pressure to find the best of the best. I hired Julie Scrivener from The Best Wedding For You to help with the month of and the BEST thing she did was refer me to Atalanta when my florist backed out. I live outside of LA but drove down to meet with Atalanta at her shop and to discuss my wedding at The Prado in Balboa Park. It turned out to be one of my most favorite memories wedding planning. She is enthusiastic, genuinely sweet and beyond talented. She let me be honest and blunt and it was obvious I could trust her judgment. She was incredible when it came to budgeting and always had ways to cut back or help make it work. People that worked at the venue were stopping bridesmaids to tell them they have never seen prettier flowers. They were incredible luxurious and so skillfully displayed. If you are wedding planning please take my advice and just book her now and save yourself the trouble of looking elsewhere. This shop is the best of the best.

With just a few photos for ideas she emailed me an inspiration board of what she though I wanted and when I saw my bouquet I could not have been more excited, she created exactly what I wanted but better. I LOVE Atalanta! My new husband and I used Camellia weddings, flowers and gifts for our recent May 31 wedding. From the moment we met Atalanta way back in September we knew she was the florist we wanted for our wedding! She listened to our ideas and immediately understood what we wanted. I love that she emailed us inspiration boards on what we discussed and talked about. That made me feel very comfortable and confident that we were on the same page and that she was going to provide what we asked for!
I wasn’t able to see the ceremony site prior to the wedding but from what I saw in photos I was so extremley happy! My husband said it was absolutely beautiful. Before the reception my husband and I took a sneak peak at the ballroom. We will never forget that feeling we had! The room was absolutely stunning! The 3 different centerpieces Atalanta made for us was beyond what we had imagined it to be! The manzanita pieces that was used for the ceremony was brought up on each side of our sweetheart table and made it a perfect setting!
I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect bouquet! I immediatley fell in love with it! My bridesmaids bouquets were lovely as well! The cymbidium orchards for my hair, cake, bouquet and centerpieces was so fresh and beautiful!
Atalanta was amazing to work with. Always has a smile on her face! She was understanding of our budget and accomodating with changes made throughout the planning process. We had the best experience with her!

They were some of the nicest people, and they have an amazing selection of flowers. I have to say you get way more than what you pay for.
I really encourage you to get your flowers from here, I mean if your in OB it is a heck of a lot easier… point is buy locally, you get a better product and support one of your own.

In an attempt to show great friends of mine, how much they were appreciated and how much they meant to me, I did an extensive search. I had an awful experience with a «big name» national company & I was so worried that it may happen again. I came across Camellia Weddings, flowers & gifts. Read reviews, (thanks Unilocalers!) & decided I would trust these wonderful reviews. I can not explain how happy I was to have found Atalanta (owner). She communicated with me often, made changes & additions, overall made everything perfect! I was so thrilled & excited to hear from my friends, once they received their gifts. She made the most beautiful floral arrangement & the coolest junk food basket, for the kids!
If you are looking for the perfect place to either buy flowers for yourself, an event or want to show someone you really care… Look NO further! Hands down, best florist I’ve ever dealt with. Last week alone, I sent out 5 arrangements/​gifts. (I had a little catching up to do) but, I so wish she lived here, so no matter what I know things will turn out exactly how I want & will convey exactly what I’m feeling.

We used Camellia Flowers for our wedding in January 2014… Atalanta is the BEST!
My husband and I did not want to spend a lot of money on our wedding flowers and centerpieces, so we were very skeptical about meeting with florists, figuring they would try to upsell us on things we truly didn’t want. Within 2 minutes of meeting Atalanta, we knew we wanted to hire her for our wedding. She listened to our ideas, was understanding, and respected our budget. She provided us with some ideas for reasonably priced centerpieces and flowers — exactly what we were looking for!
Throughout the planning process, as numbers changed and we had to make tweaks to our contract, Atalanta was always timely with her responses and more than willing to flex to meet our needs.
As for the flowers and centerpieces on our wedding day… they were absolutely stunning and exceeded our expectations! If you are planning a wedding, you absolutely should book Camellia Flowers!
