First time shopping there today. Very busy place, predominant Hispanic customer base, so lots of Spanish flying around, but, staff is bilingual, and I had no problems. My son served filet mignon for Christmas, and it was superb. I have been trying to buy filet in grocery stores(Von’s and Ralphs), but just not the same quality. My son bought his at Bristol Farms close to his house in Redondo Beach. So I was finally encouraged to find a butcher shop. Meat appears to be excellent, haven’t cooked it yet. Service was good, selection of meats was excellent. As to one comment that it could be cleaner, I would agree. But, I suspect that most other butcher shops have some of the same issue, but here it is just out in the open more. Meats cut on the same surface, same saw, same knife. Will wait till I cook meat to decide for sure to return, but planning on it now. By the way, prices were reasonable.

Great meat market. Aren’t to many good ones in Cali. They don’t have the widest selection but the selection they do have is great. The meat is good quality. Parking is good. I went for oxtails. They were 5.49 a lb at most grocery stores you can only get 4 fatty tails for 12. They had me at hello. Definitely coming back for more and their other cuts of beef.

I went here yesterday with my mother to stock up on meat, as neither myself nor my husband has a car, and Alex(the butcher) was very helpful. He gave me exactly the pieces I asked for.(Some butchers elsewhere will try to just give you the top one or the one they just put on top from the previous package even if you specify exactly which steak is most appealing to you.) I saw a good looking cut of meat labeled«beef flap meat,» and he told me all about it and that the best way to cook it is whole on a grill. He also trimmed the excess fat off my New York steaks and the beef flap meat, holding up each piece of meat before packaging it into the size packages I requested. The prices are good here, the beef is fresh, and they also have a very good selection of Mexican sodas.(The kind with real sugar) Update: We cooked the beef flap meat a couple days ago, and it was AWESOME! Marinated and grilled is the way to go. It was very tender, and unlike most steak, it does not get ruined if you have leftovers and need to microwave it.(It is a large cut of meat, and there were only 3 of us at the cookout.)

These so called butchers nearly ruined our block party. About a month early, we ordered a fresh pig from them. We even had them repeat«fresh, not frozen» to be certain. I arrived to pick up my pig and it was frozen solid. Before I even saw the pig, they tried to charge me more than quoted. Once I saw that the pig was frozen and demanded my deposit back, they were reluctant. It was only after they saw that I was not leaving without my $ that they finally relented. With 100 people counting on cooked pig the next day, I was in a pinch to say the least. Fortunately, a butcher in Ramona saved the day. Ultimately, I am glad that we did not get our meat there, as I was a bit uncomfortable with the level of cleanliness already. We will never use The Butcher Block again.

I went to this place to buy pork ribs for the Super Bowl party, the staff was nice but they only speak Spanish. I felt a little out of place and didn’t know when my number was being called. The meat was very very cheap and I received lots of compliments for the ribs! Anyways, know your numbers in Spanish before you go!

Although the meat here tastes good, I was concerned about the sanitary practices they have. The last three times I have gone in there, the whole back counter is covered in bloody cutting boards and the meat machines all have previous meat still left on them and they just put other meat on it and cut away. I have never been a shop before that it is left so questionable. I walked out the last few times because I am not in the business of getting sick from bad practices.

This place has the best pollo and carne asada in town. You have to and for the meat to be marinated. Be sure to arrive early on holiday weekends because they will run out of meat!

Great place for fresh meat! We live in La Jolla and drive all the way out here for our meats! Great prices and amazing quality. I like to make Smoked Teriyaki Carne Asada Jerky on my Traeger BBQ. I use to buy the meat at Food4Less. When I would buy 6 lbs of meat, HALF was fat and was wasted. Here I buy the same weight of 6 lbs and literally NO fat to remove. AWESOME!!! Anytime we need meats, we come here. very convenient, in and out, friendly staff.

First time there today, but I’ll be going back. Very easy to get to from I-5, and parking isn’t a problem. I was a bit taken aback when I first when in, since everyone seemed to be Hispanic, and they were calling out the ticket numbers in Spanish, too, but fortunately, the language of carnivores is universal. I’d just gone for some beef bones and beef shank to make stock, but I noticed they had porterhouse steak for $ 5.49/pound. Unfortunately, the tray was empty. I asked the butcher and he said I should check back Monday. As I was getting ready to check out, an older man behind the counter(the chief butcher or owner, perhaps) called me back over. He asked me how thick I wanted it, and I gestured with my thumb and index finger what I thought was an inch. He thought it was more like an inch-and-a-half, and cut me a Flintstones-sized slab o’ meat. At that price, I wasn’t complaining. Like possum innards, porterhouse is just as good the second day
