This place WAS great. It is CLOSED and has been for at least 2 years. It is now called Maria Juana’s. Completely different menu. All Mexican now.

Still the best Chilaquiles anywhere! This used to be my favorite breakfast spot in PB. It changed ownership a couple years ago and the food, and the staff, has lost some of their flare. Still they are very friendly and if you walk through the kitchen there’s some nice outdoor seating. Stick with the Chilaquiles or the Surfer burrito.

I love Maria Juana’s Café, former Bustamantes. A friend of mine works there and I went in once when it was Bustamantes and really loved it and now even more since the transformation! It looks so bright and exciting in there now and the energy is great. In terms of the food… its awesome, amazing all of the above. The portions are huge for the amount you are paying for and I absolutely love that they offer cottage cheese and fruit with your order. Bottom line I feel like this restaurant is trying to make it more hip and attractive to come to and I think they are doing a great job. I definitely recommend people giving this place a try.

Under New Management: My sister actually used to work with the owner at the Broken Yolk and now he opened his own place. It’s a really small place, prices are good, and food is delicious. The décor is interesting, but the food is what matters. I had the Brie omelet and it was so awesome! My sister had the Baja omelet and she loves it. The server recommended their french toast and we are happy we got it! I don’t know why, but it was awesome!

I went here for the first time on Sunday and was shocked that our large party was able to walk right in! We were seated on the back patio and my friend was allowed to bring her dog in. Although some of our orders were wrong and the service was a bit slow, our waiter was so nice and went out of his way to help us fix the mixed up orders. Everyone was very happy with their food. Everything is very reasonably prices(between $ 6-$ 10 for breakfast items) and delicious. If you are looking for a great breakfast w/o the long wait on the weekends this is the place in PB to go. I will def. come back here.

I was really looking forward to eating at this restaurant after reading about it on Unilocal.I arrived at 2:50 p.m. and they told me they were closed even though there posted hours on the store front says they are open until 3:00 p.m. Clearly the staff cares more about going home early, then serving customers. Every other restaurant I have ever been to will seat you and take your order up until the time they close.

For breakfast in PB, this is the place. As MANY of the reviewers have noted, this place has FANTASTIC service, GREAT food and excellent prices. I laugh when I walk by Konos and see the line around the block in the summer and then I head up to Bustamante’s and sit out back and enjoy the morning sun. I like it all here, they do a great job on what they serve. If you are looking for fancy, go somewhere else. This is bare bones and good food and dog-friendly on the back patio.

Bustamante’s: $ 51⁄3 lb angus burgers! $ 6 omelettes with fresh fruit! GREAT customer service… the waitress who works here is ridiculously FRIENDLY… I just want to put her in my pocket! Walking distance from the beach! Hot sauce to die for! Me: Likey! Sidenote: If you can drag your hung-over ass out of bed before 8:30am they have KILLER $ 2.99 breakfast specials!

Love, love, love Bustamantes! To sum it up: Great service(Chica and Edgar are exceptional), friendly neighborhood local diner with tons of history and family vibe, and deliciously gut-busting comfort food. It’s located in the unassuming space between Filipi’s Pizza Grotto and Zanzibar– almost hard to discover, but so worth it when you do. My faves: I’d recommend getting half beans/half potatoes for sides on indecisive days(their potatoes are crispy-soft awesome), the lobster omelet is stuffed beyond borders with(what else?!) lobster, their eggless veggie scrambles are yum, and the fresh juices so refreshing… Bring a big appetite! Go alone or with a large group of friends and sit in patio with sunshine– they’ll take care of the rest!

I used to love to come to Bustamante’s A greasy spoon hidden gem. The last time I was there I was sitting at the counter, and caught something out of the corner of my eye. I turned to my right and noticed the woman sitting at a table with her back to me. She had fluffy, bushy hair. And wait, does she have a tail coming out of her neck? No, that’s just her pet rat crawling to and fro from one shoulder to the other. It’s not Bustamante’s fault that this woman has a pet rat, but should that pet rat be dining at Bustamante’s? My personal opinion is no, and I just can’t bring myself to go back.

Bustamante’s serves both the classic American breakfast and the big old Mexican style breakfast. And they do not mess with breakfast. I came here on an empty stomach and ordered the«something» consisting of scrambled eggs with mushroom and potatoes(everywhere!), salsa, tortillas and had a strawberry agua fresca to complete the meal. He ordered the scrambled eggs with chorizos, tortilla chips and beans. The servings were humungous! Both of us couldn’t finish our food and took it to go. After a block, we decided we didn’t want to carry it around the beach, so we placed our box of breakfast on top of a trash bin(see: ) and went to the ATM. After hitting up the ATM, we passed by the bin and our food was gone! Not in the trash either(yep, we checked). Hope whoever took it enjoyed it as much as we did! Cash only, no ambiance, no frills, no beach bunnies, or hot surfer guys, but huge plates of good food at a reasonable price! Another good find on Unilocal

I’ve been going to Bustamantes for over a decade. It was a favorite meet up spot years ago with the«Collective» group of friends on Sunday AM after a long night of partying. The complementary fruit, or their low cost Agua Fresco fresh fruit drinks seemed to take the sting out of the hangovers we were all working. Sitting on the patio in back is great, and the patio is even more obscure than the restaurant itself(you have to go into the kitchen area to get out the back screen door). I’m a big fan of Mexican Style breakfast, and Bustamante’s has the best Chilaquiles and Breakfast burritos in San Diego(4th generation local here… trust me on this). The service is the best and friendliest I’ve ever had, which is a testament to the benefit of locally owned businesses. The quality and quantity of food, fresh fruit drinks, great service and outdoor seating in back all add up to my favorite breakfast spot in San Diego. You owe it to your self to add this to your short list of cool breakfast spots. They’re open until 3pm, and they only take cash(there is a BofA 30 yards West if you forget cash). Long Live Bustamante’s!

One of my all time favorite breakfast places in PB that I have been going to since my dad took me here when I was 2 years old and it was called Correo’s. This is a simple, no frills honest to God old school coffee shop with a long counter and simple tables. They open on for breakfast and stay open until around 2pm. They have a wide array of classic breakfast items, both Mexican and American. They have real, brewed in a pot coffee, no soy lattes here. They don’t do salmon hash… if you want no frills, cheap breakfast for under $ 10 and in a hurry, this is the place to go. They have great egg dishes and the service is phenomenal. I would recommend the Omelet Ranchero, which is really good without the ranchero sauce on top, but rather hot sauce. Also good is the huevos mexicana and the surfer burrito. They also make homemade juice each day which is cold and refreshing on the way to the beach or heading home from dawn patrol. They always have about 10 copies of the paper on hand and TV showing SD sports teams, or national action if there is something good on. The is a great place for a small group or to dine by yourself to start the day. Not much else to say about this place: it is not fancy like a lot of brunch spots in PB, but it gets you what you need, super quick, at ridiculously low prices and at great quality.

I’m going to keep this review simple because this is a simple kind of place. It is a little hole in the wall diner that I had no idea existed. I have lived in PB for 5 years total and have driven by here at least 100 times and walked by probably 2 dozen times. Because it flies under the radar, it isn’t crowded.(Rare for P.B. on a Saturday morning.) We walked in and were immediately greeted by the server Edgar. Before we even sat down at the counter he had served us fresh fruit and waters. I ordered the special. 2 eggs 2 pieces of bacon and 2 huge pancakes for $ 5.00. Breakfast was just typical for breakfast. But the service and the down home, friendly feel is rare and priceless. On our way out Edgar shook our hands and thanked us for coming in. You just don’t find service like that very often. I am one that truly believes in supporting local«mom and pop» businesses. Because of that, I hope to become a regular at this cozy little place.

The standout aspect of this restaurant is that the people who work there are really nice. =) I love nice people. I ventured into the place for the first time yesterday. The line at Kono’s was almost down to the end of the block — there was no way I was going to wait in that line for eggs and pancake! I’m glad I checked out Bustamante. It’s a hole in the wall place with patio seating in back. There were umbrellas for shade, which was really nice. No one was in the patio except for a guy with a green parrot. It was unbelievably peaceful. Later on, more people came through but for some reason it just stayed so wonderfully peaceful and mellow. The guy server came by with coffee, water, and some complimentary watermelon slices. I thought that was so nice. The asian lady server with blonde hair has the cutest little smiley eyes and was super nice too. The food was pretty good, fast, freshly prepared, and impressively large in quantity. There were some chicks next to us who order the chilequiles and their huge plates were overflowing. I got the Denver omlette which is a Monday special. It was slightly greasy but in a good way. The potatoes were nicely cooked soft, not crispy. It came with toast and grape jelly. It cost about $ 6. Bf got the Californian + bacon, which was some sort of potato hash with g. bell peppers, onion, tomatoes, bacon. He got tortillas and pico de gallo with it. It was about $ 8. All in all, we got a huge meal with tons of leftovers. The guy gave us a little styrofoam box and we took the potato hash home.

I’m glad I use Unilocal because I get to find great little gems like this, that I would have otherwise never even noticed. In a nutshell: really yummy and damn cheap. Traci L and I both got full breakfasts and the bill was $ 15. I had a cheese and bacon omelette and I wish it was a weekend today so I could go back and get another. I love how there are a bunch of regulars, these jolly old men sitting at the counter shooting the shit and drinking coffee… and the server is a cute, little Asian lady with pink hair. Love it. Service was great, we were in and out in less than ½ hour, and we were totally taking our time.

This small little coffee shop has some great food for a great price. My omelet was huge and it came with a side of potatoes(you can also get beans if you want) and tortillas. Not only was the food great, but the service was fast. I think out food came out like eight minutes after we ordered. It was very empty on a friday morning. Looking at the pictures on the wall, it looks like it gets busier on the weekends.

After unexpectedly finding a parking spot next to the Bank of America on Garnet, followed by depositing money, my bf and I decided to not waste a great parking and find some brunch. We were going to do another Zanzibar sit-down but decided instead on Bustamante’s, a little hole in the wall breakfast and lunch place on Garnet that really seems misplaced among all the clothing stores, bikini shops, and other loungey-types of restaurants. It’s name says«coffee shop» but it reminds me more of a diner-esque type of place. Walking in, we easily found a table to sit at and were warmly greeted by a nice Asian lady with blonde-bleached hair(I thought it was a wig at first, until I saw her roots) who brought us water upon sitting. The reviewer before me(Noly T.) is pretty much dead on about how the menu seems to offer mostly Spanish-style breakfasts with some American. I ordered the Vera Cruz omelette(which had bell peppers, tomato, onions, and shrimp) with a side of beans and salsa fresca, and my bf got a guacamole and bacon omelette with a side of beans. When our orders came I was seriously surprised by how much was on my plate! In fact, the reason I deducted a star from my rating was because there was so much on my place it was nearly impossible not to make a mess(I actually decided to tuck a napkin into my shirt to prevent any splashing onto my white shirt — yea, I looked extra cool hehe). The other reason was because my omelette was covered in cheese(and I despise cheese!). The menu didn’t say anything about the omelette being«topped with a mountain of cheese,» so I was pretty unhappy about that. My bf’s omelette wasn’t as messy as mine was so he was pretty satisfied with his choice. Anyway, a good meal that definitely filled us up. Pretty decent for $ 15(that’s w/o tip). And they weren’t stingy with the shrimp in my omelette — I found at least 6 or 7 and expected 3 or 4 — big plus! The waitress was very nice and left two hershey kisses for us with the check — chocolate’s always a good way to end my meal :)

Awesome food right after a good early morning surf session. It’s a little hole in the wall on Garnet that can easily be missed if you’re not paying attention. Their breakfasts range in price from $ 5 – 7 and you get a mountain of food. Much of their menu is Mexican(i.e.-Huevos Rancheros, Machaca, etc.) however they do serve traditional American breakfasts(i.e.-sausage and eggs, etc.). One of my favorite things there is the fresh juice they make everyday. It’s always something different… pineapple/orange, apple, etc. They specialize in breakfast so they’re closed by the afternoon. Warning: only go if you’re really hungry or expect to take some food home.
