Best Western Lamplighter Inn & Suites At Sdsu

Seriously the best last minute stay we have had. Front desk (super late night arrival 2am) was beyond professional and helpful while the day shift front desk staff were super accommodating! The king size bed was so comfortable along with the 5 over fluffy pillows. We were in heaven. The fridge was more than adequate and the room came with a nice size flat screen tv and dvd player. The breakfast was cereals, pastries, muffins, breads, bagels, and a make your own pancake or waffle station with toppings etc. We will be coming back!!!

I was very impressed with this 2 star hotel. The staff was amazing. The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was more than what I anticipated. I would definitely stay here again. They even have kitchens which I will be getting next time.

Nice little place at a moderate price. Room was in decent condition, and bathroom was really clean. Old styled cabinets, wallpaper and furnishings. Would visit again.

Pros: Rooms are clean and are priced to be affordable. Relatively quiet place to stay. Hotel front desk staff is very friendly and courteous and made me feel this establishment appreciated our business. Decent WiFi service. Liked the shampoo they provided in the room.
Cons: No refrigerator or microwave in room. Our bathroom was not in great shape with peeling floor boards and a toilet roll dispenser that was not wide enough to accommodate a standard commercial grade toilet paper roll, making it difficult to get a sheet larger than one square. Room smelled musty and the cleaning person forgot to clean out our ice container. Neighbors were smoking pot, making one wonder about the clientele this place appeals to. Included breakfast was very basic and, while provided at no additional cost, did not taste great.

We left a day early because of how uncomfortable the bed was. The breakfast was the WORST, and the only good thing I can say is that we got a parking spot right in front of our room door. We came here for a concert and did not expect such a crummy hotel room. Ive stayed in a lot of Best Westerns but this one was way too outdated and unkempt.

Crashed here last night after a night out. The woman that helped me out at the front desk was the sweetest and registration was really quick and easy! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. They have a breakfast room for complimentary breakfast in the morning and I did see a pool. Overall, good experience for an unexpected night

Booked a night at this hotel and later decided to stay 2^nd night so booked second reservation and asked for them to be linked so I would not have to change rooms — received a call from Gilda and LEN (manager) stating that room reservations were not identical so I would have to change rooms or go without a refrigerator. The $ 14 dollar difference did NOT matter to me and I was willing to pay and said I would check my reservations because I usually book to have a refrigerator. LEN stated that if I could PROVE my reservation then he would personally go out and purchase a refrigerator… seriously? The call was pathetic and I was shocked at the arrogance and disgusted that he would even dignify having me change rooms over the $ 14 dollar difference in room costs. Needless to say — I will NOT be staying there and have cancelled both nights — booking at hotel that appreciates the business of its patrons!

This hotel offers Great service!!! Very clean rooms awesome breakfast :) They made our dog feel welcome :) the employees can’t be nicer:) :) We will definitely stay here again!!!

This hotel gives you all the basics and more! They are located on a busy commercial street with tons of quality ethnic restaurants that we enjoyed. Also grocery stores, drug stores, fast food, gas stations, sub shops, etc were all conveniently located. It is definitely not a tourist area, so don’t go walking around after dark, unless you know how to keep it street. The landscaping is gorgeous with lots of beautiful flowers, trees and well manicured lawns. The décor of the rooms are dated but very clean and well maintained.
We really liked the cleanliness and super friendly staff. We got a free upgrade and stayed in a non-​smoking upstairs suite by the pool with a full kitchen and sitting room. The towels were clean, soft and sparkling white. Lots of fluffy feather pillows too. When the a/​c is not on, the room smells a little dusty and smoke from the downstairs unit may pervade, but quickly dissipates when the fan is on for a few minutes. I appreciated how clean the bathroom was and it was stocked with mini toiletries. Even the tub grout look brand new, it was so clean. Flushing the toilet takes more than a few seconds, the water is hard and the pressure of the shower wasn’t good. However the hot water was fast and plentiful.
Props to the breakfast staff for keeping it well stocked and delicious. Lots of carb choices supplemented with protein from yogurt and hard boiled eggs. The do-​it-​yourself fresh waffles just about killed me. They are very addictive! There’s also coffee, tea, hot oatmeal, bagels, cream cheese, pastries, muffins, cereals, oranges, apples, toast and juice. Breakfast is free and all you can eat.
Next time we come to San Diego, we will book Best Western Lamplighter Inn & Suites without hesitation. It’s not only a great value but a great place to stay.

We attended a concert at USDS and needed a dog friendly hotel that was close by.
This hotel was very clean and customer service oriented. The staff was friendly. We were reluctant and pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this hotel.

Great service! I had originally booked a room with Super 8, but when I called them the night before they told me I had to be 21 or over to book a room there… but I had that reservation for weeks, and they didn’t bothering telling me this info? In a panic, I called this Best Western at around midnight, asking if they would accept me, even though I’m only 18. She said «Of course! Why wouldn’t we?» and when I explained to her what Super 8 did, she was appalled. Within minutes we had a room booked for me, and she was so sweet and kind the whole time. The next day, I show up to check in, and the man at the desk informs me that I got a free room upgrade from a standard room to a room with a full kitchen. Now I had a way to reheat my Domino’s Pizza that I had brought along. He joked that «it cost me one pizza» :P
The room itself was very clean, and the kitchen was awesome! Came with a full size fridge and stove, and sink and a cupboard full of plates and cups.
The next morning, I enjoyed the free breakfast. There was plenty to choose from, from cereal, to oatmeal, to toast, to waffles, and to fruit and more.
They were super helpful at the front desk as well. I asked the man if he knew how to purchase a day pass for the bus system in San Diego, and he asked some people for me, and looked up online the numbers I need to call.
Later on, I saw him again on campus, and as we passed he asked if I made it on the bus alright. Its nice knowing he remembered and cared about me. All in all, great service, and would definitely stay here again! I’m glad I didn’t stay at Super 8.

Len– the General Manager is extremely helpful and personable. After my Grandparents made a reservation at a hotel in the area that I saw had very scary reviews, I called this property and spoke with Len. He was extremely caring and extended a couple of offers that were very generous. Unfortunately, my Grandpa was set in his ways and did not want to cancel his reservation at another hotel, but Len suggested that they come and check out the property, and that he would have even matched the price that they were paying elsewhere. Wonderful customer service at this place!

We spent the night here over the weekend & even brought our pup! Dogs under 50 lbs are allowed. For the discounted rate and full satisfaction, I am glad we chose to stay here. At first, I wasn’t sold when we drove in to check in. But after staying here, I would come here again. The manager was warm & friendly & recommended the sushi place a block away which was uh-​amazing! The rooms are right there which are convenient to take doggy out for potty. We missed the breakfast cause we slept in a little. Bed was just right & a bit firm for my weak back surrounded by marshmallow pillows. Clean room & safe area. About 20 minutes to shopping & whatnot but liquor stores and lil shops nearby. Only downfall was being able to hear our next door neighbor.

The pool was clean, and heated. Nice breakfast with waffles/​cereal/​etc.
Not great insulation, so if someone is loud nearby you know it.
Nice beds, nice TV, clean sheets and towels… I’ll book again!

. I am grateful! The room was spacious & clean. It offers free parking & free wifi… and free continental breakfast! I will definately come back to this Inn the next time I am in the area!

Front Desk was helpful, pool area extremely clean, parking limited, good breakfast, helpful caring staff, great value. Would stay there again, no question about it. Not too far from Downtown, stayed here for a comicon event and the front desk gave us driving routes to avoid traffic which were so helpful. I was hesitant to book this hotel as a surprise getaway since my boyfriend can be a bit of a «hotel snob», but considering it was comicon weekend, this was the most affordable hotel with the best rates and highest ratings. We were both very comfortable and satisfied staying here.

The only reason this doesn’t get a four is it is an older building that every sound enters the room including the pool pump cycling on and off which doesn’t help staying asleep. Seldom have I encountered a staff as congenial and helpful as the folks here. I was only here for one night but ran in to several of the staff and they were all great. The continental breakfast was open right on time with hot coffee. Included was the waffle maker. Later on I went back for a coffee refill and it was wall to wall. The morning desk clerk mentioned they were soon going to take out a room to add to the breakfast area. My room itself was spacious in in good repair. Because it was summer break at SDSU I got a killer deal on a ground floor room with a full kitchen. The carpet had some stains and the older style wood work in the kitchen showed some wear from constant cleaning but overall it was in better shape than my apt which is about the same age.

I was in need of a last minute hotel and this fit the bill. The hotel is located in a nice areas. The room was really clean and included all amenities. The continental breakfast was better than I expected (muffins, toast, eggs, waffles, apple & orange juice coffee, etc). Yum! The only problem I found was the parking lot. I feel it’s too small. Other than that, I had a great experience.

Stayed here for our visit to SDSU for freshman orientation. It’s just a few minutes from campus. I think it’s a great option for this type of trip. Rates are low, rooms are clean and well kept, and beds are comfortable. Next time I will bring my own shampoo. There is the standard breakfast offered at no additional charge. I appreciated that the hard boiled eggs were still in their shells and not those that are purchased pre-​boiled. We’ll be back for dorm move-​in! Free wi-​fi

There is nothing remarkable about a Best Western, any Best Western. Oh sure, where else can you make your own free Belgian waffle with a flip of the wrist? But this one stands out for a couple of reasons. First, Len and Vanessa, the couple who manage the place are quite conscientious. The second is that the central location makes it easy to navigate to most of the key attractions in San Diego.
Don’t let its proximity to SDSU throw you. We didn’t get the impression that there were keggers in all the other rooms. But try to come back to the hotel by 11PM because the parking lot fills up and you don’t want to be squeezed between two party-​hearty SUVs. The rooms themselves are clean albeit cheaply furnished with a somewhat dated feel to them. You can get a discounted rate that hovers around $ 100 per night on a non-​holiday weekend, and they do book quickly.
